Home Care Kendall Park, NJ

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Maclean House gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. “ALWAYS BEST CARE, Princeton Junction is the place to call if you need help in caring for a loved one. We have a brother and his significant other who were living independently and when visiting them realized they had not been eating or keeping their home clean. Since we knew of Always Best Care and heard of their excellent reputation we contacted them. They immediately stepped in and assisted us in knowing what steps we needed to take. After taking both our brother and his significant other to the doctors and learning that they had the beginnings of Alzheimer’s disease, we met with Carmen who helped us set up a plan. She suggested that we start with a few days a week of in home care so that we would know that they were eating. She provided us with excellent aids that not only helped prepare meals, but also interacted with our family members to encourage socialization. These few days increased to five days a week which left us with Saturday and Sunday to monitor their eating. While this was taking place, Carmen helped us find an Assisted Living Community where they could move. We visited several in the area and decided on one after consulting with Carmen. She and Gimbert were always available to take our calls if we had any questions. They helped us with finding someone to clean out the house and assisted us in relocating our bother and his significant other to their new home. We have recommended Always Best Care to several of our neighbors who have needed assistance with caring for loved ones. Carmen is on top of any situation that needs attention. Whether a person needs an aid for a week, a month or indefinitely she arranges the right person for the client’s needs. Always Best Care, Carmen and Gimbert, cared for our family members as if they were their own family. We would not have been able to care for our family members as well as the aids from Always Best Care.Hopefully we will not need the services of Always Best Care again, but if we do we know that they will be there to help us.”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Kendall Park, NJ?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Kendall Park, NJ, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your NJ's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
 Senior Care Kendall Park, NJ

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Kendall Park, NJ understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Kendall Park, NJ

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Kendall Park, NJ

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

St. Augustine of Canterbury saw the Governor accept an invitation made by a fifth-grader late last year.

|Updated Mon, Apr 18, 2011 at 2:48 pm ET

During a town hall at the Monmouth Junction Firehouse late last year, Gov. Chris Christie received a request from a young local student who attends St. Augustine of Canterbury School. The student, fifth-grader Samantha Grey, asked Christie if he would visit her school in Kendall Park. A few months later, Christie made good on his promise by paying a visit to the school, to answer questions from students and to speak about the value of a Catholic education.

“During the one hundredth anniversary of the Religious Teachers Filippini coming to America, it was a privilege to have Gov. Christie visit our school, which added to their celebration," said Father Bob Lyman. "Gov. Christie is very much familiar with the Religious Teachers Filippini since his daughter attends their school at Villa Walsh in Morristown. The Governor reminded all the students of the sacrifices their parents are making to send them to this Catholic school and affirmed Catholic education."

The visit, which was closed to the media, saw the entire school community in grades K-8 warmly greet the Governor with welcome signs, applause and cheers of joy, said principal Sister Mary Louise Shulas.

"I was very excited because I never had the experience of having a governor come and visit my own school," Shulas said. "It was an honor and a privilege for him to come in and be our guest. He addressed the children beautifully and answered questions on a level that the students were able to understand and appreciate. He spoke about the value of receiving an excellent Catholic education and the importance of having respect for one another by reaching out and performing services that help other people."

Father Bob opened the Governor's visit with a welcome and prayer. Christie then spoke to the children about valuing their Catholic education and learning attitudes of respect and kindness, Shulas said. Before the meeting began, the children were asked what should be on their agenda for the day.

Find out what's happening in South Brunswickwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

"I don't know," Samantha said. "We don't need any agenda, we have the Governor visiting us. "

Shulas called the visit a wonderful memory in the history of the school and the lives of the students.

"The children came away from this with the knowledge that the Governor does care about students and their education in New Jersey," Shulas said. "That was his clear message to them. He confirmed the importance of the value of education, and in our case, a Catholic education. He made them feel as though they're a vital part of New jersey by taking the time out of his schedule to visit them at their own school on their invitation. Each child felt really important and valued."

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - A Kendall Park woman is suing the township, the zoning board, and her neighbors for constructing an in-ground pool that violates certain property ordinances. The woman claims that the new construction was too close to her property and failed to meet the standards set by the municipality, despite getting approval from the zoning board earlier this year.

Last November, a couple in Kendall Park submitted an application with the Zoning Board to build a 16ft by 32ft swimming pool in their backyard. According to a local ordinance, swimming pools must be built at least 15 feet away from the border of their neighbor's property. The plan submitted to the Zoning Board was only 10 feet away, according to the lawsuit.

The woman raised concerns to her neighbors that she claims were “ignored,” as they began construction in April 2022. The woman made two visits to the Township’s Zoning Board which resulted in an examination by Zoning Board Officer Charles Lynch.

Upon inspection, Mr. Lynch had confirmed the construction was less than eight feet away from the property line. They were asked to halt construction pending the action of the zoning board.

Back in May, the Zoning Board held a public hearing to discuss the new swimming pool. All property owners within a 200 feet distance were made aware of the hearings and given an opportunity to speak. Some residents raised concerns about possible flooding. It is unclear if the neighbor who is suing attended this meeting.

The Zoning Board was made aware that the construction did not meet the 15 feet standards, but granted permission as “this error in permit approval created a hardship for the applicant and does not create any detriment to any other properties.” The applicants agreed to meet all the standards set by the planning and zoning board.

The lawsuit charges the township and zoning board on a count of failure to enforce a municipal ordinance and an improper grant of variance relief. The plaintiff is seeking a judgment that would vacate the zoning board’s decision.

Lawyers representing the plaintiff and township officials were contacted for this story. Neither responded to a request for comment.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - After more than 50 years of attracting roller skaters of all skills, the wheels will stop spinning at the Kendall Park Roller Skating Rink on Sunday.

Located on Route 27 in Kendall Park, the facility originally was a bowling alley before being bought in 1964 by America On Wheels, a roller rink chain.

Professional roller skater Cliff Nazzaro, of North Brunswick, became the rink's manager in 1968. He was a national title-holder for speed skating. "I was a speed skater from 1954 to 1968," he said.

What he didn't know was that he would one day own the rink.

The 76-year-old, who now lives in Las Vegas, has seen the generational ebb and flow of roller skating's popularity.

"I managed for 20 years and then I owned the business for 15 years, leasing the property, and then I bought the property," he said. In 2002 he became the owner and then sold the property three years later..

"The roller rink business lasted through many, many years," he said. "The peak was during the disco era. I remember any Saturday afternoon I would have 1,100 people in there."

It was the late 1970s and there were lights and music and "everybody wanted to try it," Nazzaro remembered.

Now, the popularity has waned, but its importance to the community is just as strong, he said.

"People need some form of recreation to keep them off the streets. So you need roller skating, you need the movies, different forms of entertainment," he said. "Today, roller skating is not as busy as it used to be, but it maintains itself."

Mike Nazzaro, Cliff's nephew, who works as a manager at the rink, can attest to the changes over time.

"All my life I skated, and when I turned 17 I stared working here," recalled Nazzaro, who lives in Edison and is 42.

"Roller hockey was very good for the business for awhile," he said, "but it was like a fad; all the rinks had it, then all the rinks didn't have it."

He's had a lot of memories both on and off the rink .

"I'm pretty sentimental about it," he said. "It's an end of an era."

Many others who have enjoyed skating at the rink share the same sentiment.

"The kids are going to miss the experience of roller skating," said Sha-Ron Karr, of Sayreville.. She's been making the trip from Sayreville to the rink for six days a week for the 35 years.

"This is like my second home," she said.

"Champions came through here," said Bill Davis, 67, of Jersey City. "One time or another, anybody who went on roller skating in the upper echelon found their way through Central Jersey through this rink."

"There's people all over the country that know this rink is closing," said Jim Kennedy, 69, of the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick. "This is a pretty famous rink around the country."

He's been teaching at the rink for 25 years and was skating at the Kendall Park rink before then.

"It's sad," Kennedy said. "Generations of people who skated here, their kids won't get a chance to skate it like their parents did and grandparents."

Philip Ianno has been working at the rink off and on for 40 years.

"It's sad, but you know, everything changes," he said. "I'm glad my kids got to come and I got to come."

"Everybody is emotionally upset," Karr said. "I can't tell you how many generations of clubs have gone through here."

Cliff Nazzaro said he has run into people in Las Vegas who knew about the Kendall Park Roller Rink. He knew the closure was inevitable, but with the closing date around the corner, he's feeling nostalgic.

"I knew that over the years that this would come," Nazzaro said. "I was there for a long time — that's a lifetime, 40 years — I enjoyed the business."

The last skating session will be conducted Sunday, Nov. 26 from 2 to 5 p.m.

It was a few years back and we were traveling along Cohawkin Road in the Gloucester County town of Clarksboro when first caught our first glimpse of what has come to be known as the “Bowling Ball House.”

We pulled into the driveway of Stanley Szymansky, who’s property is lined from front yard to back with shiny multicolored bowling balls mounted on metal stakes.

This is not the first bowling ball house we’ve come across here at Weird NJ over the past 25 years. The property has a similar appearance the former home of the late Richie Zorzi in Kendall Park, as both houses are not only adorned with bowling balls, but also rocking horses. We fear this rocking horse/bowling ball combination may be a trend, or maybe just a coincidence. It’s time to find out.

“I’ve been wondering when Weird NJ was going to show up!” Szymansky told us. It was about 10 years ago that Szymansky, then a spry 80-year-old, started his display with about a dozen bowling balls he had in his collection, placing them outside on his property.

“The neighbors didn’t like them,” Szymansky remembers, “so they called the township on me. The township came down and told me I had to get rid of them, and I told them I ain’t getting rid of them, and if you want to talk to me again, you can talk to me through my lawyer!”

The town never called on Szymansky again, but soon more and more bowling balls started showing up on his property. (A similar story was related to us by Zorzi, as bowling balls were mysteriously deposited on his property in the middle of the night.)

“One morning I looked out, and there was a pile of four over there, three over in that direction, and 27 of them in my driveway!” said Szymansky. “And it has just continued since then. The last dropoff was three days ago.”

We asked Szymansky if he had heard about the Bowling Ball House of Kendall Park, but he said he didn’t recall anyone ever telling him about it. We asked if the rocking horses were dropoffs also, but he said no, they were all bought at garage sales and flea markets. A strange similarity, we thought.

“I have a little over 300 bowling balls on the property. I used to have about 400, but a lot of them split or got cracked, so I’m slowly replacing them. I like them. If I see one at a garage sale, I pick it up. If I see a rocking horse in the trash, I’ll take that also.”

Szymansky has no plans to stop his bowling ball fetish. We asked him if he plans on making a bowling ball tombstone when his time comes and he gave us a surprising reply.

“I bought a grave around the corner here at the cemetery," he said. "I had the stone made up and had them put a bowling ball on it. If you take a ride through you can see my stone with a bowling ball.”

Szymansky also tells us he has no connection to bowling as a sport.

“Why do bowling balls have three holes and I have five fingers?” he asked.

Since more and more bowling balls keep showing up on Szymansky’s property, we asked him if the neighbors gets more angry about Szymansky’s mounting collection of the spheres.

“No. We’re fine now. They’re both dead.”
