RAEFORD, N.C. (WNCN) — A new manufacturing facility is coming to Hoke County, and the North Carolina Governor made an appearance at the company’s groundbreaking this week.
Pennsylvania Transformer Technology will build a 300,000-square-foot facility to expand its transformer manufacturing business, and chose Raeford again as the new location.
The expansion is worth at least $102.5 million and will create 217 jobs in Raeford. The company already has a facility in Raeford, which first broke ground in 1992, but plans to have two now.
“North Carolina’s top-tier workforce and thriving business environment make companies like Pennsylvania Transformer Technology want to grow here,” said Governor Josh Stein. “This investment proves again that North Carolina is the best state to do business, and I’m pleased PTT is expanding its role in creating North Carolina’s strong clean energy economy.”
According to the governor, North Carolina has the largest manufacturing workforce in the Southeast. Governor Stein looks to continue the state’s growth, especially with establishing the North Carolina Energy Policy Task Force back in August.
CBS 17 previously reported about Executive Order 23, where Stein’s goal was to better manage the increasing electricity demand.
“The mission of the Task Force is to advise the governor, the General Assembly, and other state policymakers and to develop recommendations for how to manage increasing electricity demand while maintaining adequate, reliable, affordable, and clean electricity for North Carolina,” the order reads.
With PTT’s expansion, the manufacturer would create more jobs that would provide more transformers to distribute in the electric utility, municipal power, renewable energy and industrial markets.
“We are thrilled to further invest in and expand our operations in Hoke County. This state-of-the-art facility will set new standards in efficiency, sustainability, and competitiveness,” said Sandeep Chakravarty, President of PTT. “It will also greatly enhance our production capacity, strengthen our supply chain in the U.S, and provide significant economic benefits to the community by creating additional well-paying, high-quality jobs.”
The company said it has already started the hiring process for the new facility, which is projected to be up and running by Fall 2026.
