Iconic musician Paul Simon's daughter said she "hates" the actor and accused him of selling her childhood home, according to media reports.
NEW CANAAN, CT — Lulu Simon recently took to social media to express her displeasure with popular actor Richard Gere's decision to sell the New Canaan home that previously belonged to her father, iconic musician Paul Simon, according to media reports.
The New York Post reports Simon wrote in an Instagram story Tuesday that she "still hates" Gere and accused him of buying her childhood home after promising to take care of the land as a condition of purchase.
Simon also accused Gere of never actually moving into the large New Canaan property and selling it to a developer, who plans to demolish the property to build new houses, the New York Post reports.
According to People, Simon followed up the message with a second post to her Instagram story of a picture of Gere and text that said she hoped her "dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness."
Both posts were lated deleted by the 30-year-old singer, according to multiple reports. Neither posts were visible on her Instagram stories as of Thursday afternoon.
Neither Gere nor Paul Simon and his wife, singer-songwriter Edie Brickell, have addressed the comments about the New Canaan property on their respective social media accounts since the posts went up Tuesday.
The nearly 32-acre property, located at 82 Brookwood Lane, was previously owned by Gere after he purchased the land for $10.8 million from Simon and Brickell in the summer of 2022.
Simon and Brickell had owned the property for 20 years, having paid $16.5 million for it in 2002, prior to selling it to Gere and Silva.
Realtor.com reported in May the six-bedroom brick home was sold to SBP Homes for $10.75 million in November when Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, decided to move to Spain, however some historic parts of the home were salvaged by Hudson Valley House Parts of Newburgh, N.Y.
Plans to turn the property previously owned by Simon's parents, then Gere and Silva, into a new subdivision with nine lots ranging in size from 2.2 to 4.8 acres received approval from the town's Inland Wetlands and Planning and Zoning commissions in April, as reported by CT Insider.
At one point, the "Pretty Woman" actor sought to turn part of the property into a private farm and even attended a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting in New Canaan in August 2023 to discuss the couple's plans for it.
Plans to turn the expansive property into a nine-lot subdivision were submitted to the Planning and Zoning Commission shortly after the November property sale and were accessible on the town website earlier this year.
A petition for intervention was also filed with the town's Inland Wetlands Commission in December by two Brookwood Lane neighbors with "substantial and specific concerns" about the proposed development presented in the application.
Gere is best know for his roles in acclaimed films such as "An Officer and a Gentleman," "Pretty Woman," "American Gigolo," "Runaway Bride" and "Chicago," the latter for which he won a Golden Globe Award.
Arguably one of the most acclaimed musical artists of all time, Paul Simon was part of the iconic duo Simon & Garfunkel who produced hit songs such as "Mrs. Robinson," "The Boxer," "The Sound of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
He also found major success as a solo artist, boasting a catalog of hit songs such as "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard," "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" and "You Can Call Me Al."
Like her father, Lulu Simon is also a singer and musician. She released a self-titled EP, "Lulu Simon," in 2019 and has a number of EPs and singles up on Spotify, including "Not Crying Anymore," "Feel Better" and "Pennies & Pins."
