Henkel volunteers at CT nonprofits
Staff from Henkel North America pitched in around the community for a "day of dedicated service in Fairfield County" on Oct. 9.
Headquartered in Stamford, the parent company of popular consumer brands like Dial dedicated a day to service and giving back to the community through volunteerism. The Community Impact Day event involved hundreds of Henkel employees at sites across the country, according to a press release from Henkel.
Among the spots at which Henkel employees volunteered locally were Mill River Park in Stamford and Darien nonprofit Person to Person. They also helped out at Norwalk nonprofit Filling in the Blanks, co-founded by New Canaan resident Shawnee Knight.
Silvermine to host Artisans Market
Silvermine Arts Center is hosting a weekend of fine art and craft shopping on Nov. 9-10.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, attendees can discover ceramics, fiber arts, jewelry, sculptures, paintings and unique clothing. They will also have the chance to meet the artists behind each creation, according to a press release from Silvermine.

Halloween block party planned
A family-friendly New Canaan tradition is back with the annual Halloween block party, according to the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce's website.
This year’s event, sponsored by The Sigg Team at William Raveis and New Canaan Pediatric Dentistry, will be held Oct. 27 from noon to 2 p.m. on Elm Street. Come for the trick-or-treating and stay for the music, courtesy of New Canaan’s own School of Rock.
New this year is the Howl-O-Ween parade. Dress your dog in costume and meet in front of the Adirondack Store at 1:30 p.m.
Meet a Time 100 honoree
Saad Mohseni, a Time 100 honoree and author of "Radio Free Afghanistan: A Twenty-Year Odyssey for an Independent Voice in Kabul," will share the moving and surprising story of the attempt to build a truly independent media company in contemporary Afghanistan. Tom Freston, former CEO of Viacom and a founding member of MTV Networks, will interview Mohseni on Nov. 1 from 7-8 p.m. in the Jim & Dede Bartlett Auditorium at the New Canaan Library, 151 Main St.
Elm Street Books will be on site with books for purchase and signing by the author.
The William Attwood Lecture Series presents distinguished speakers from journalism, government, literature, and/or politics. The series honors longtime New Canaan resident, journalist, and author William Attwood.

NCHS seeks internship mentors
New Canaan High School seeking site sponsors for the school's 2024-25 Senior Internship Program, offering local businesses an opportunityto host motivated senior students.
The program will run from May 20 to June 13, providing businesses with fresh perspectives, new solutions and creative approaches to projects, while giving students real-world experience.
All industries in the New Canaan area and surrounding towns are welcome, with growing interest in science, finance, healthcare, sciences and law.
Student interns would work 25 hours per week, typically between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Internships are unpaid, and participating students would earn a quarter school credit.

Grateful Dead Night at the Carriage Barn
Bandleader and guitarist Michael-Louis Smith and the band “Take A Step Back” will perform the music of The Grateful Dead on Nov. 2 at the Carriage Barn Arts Center.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available online for $35 at the Carriage Barn website. Tickets will be available at the door for $40.
