They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Pearl S. Buck National Historic Landmark gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. “We are so grateful for Always Best Care BuxMont. Rebecca and Ken have been lifesavers for our family. We were using another company and both myself and my caretaker were extremely frustrated with the negligence of the former home care company. After a couple of phone calls with Rebecca and appointments with Ken we felt like we were breathing fresh air again. Their kindness comes through in every encounter and their business ethics are superior to other companies. The heartfelt care they have for their people is very evident. It is a relief and a pleasure to work with them, both for myself and my caretaker.”

“Ken Good was a life saver in helping us find a CCRC in Doylestown, PA for my brother in law, PP. We had 5 days notice that he could no longer stay at the rehab center. Within 24 hours, Ken sent an e-mail identifying facilities whom he had spoken to including 6 that would most likely PP given his limited assets in addition to those that would not and those who had not returned his call. These recommendations were updated daily. I don't know what we would have done but for Ken's knowledge, accessibility and obvious respect from so many facilities that promptly returned his call . Because of Ken's quick and accurate recommendations, PP was accepted to a Personal Care facility that meets his needs perfectly. We highly recommend Ken Good and Always Best Care Senior Services”

“My beloved dad recently passed away after losing his battle with cancer. During his last months, he was lucky enough to have had Claire as his caregiver and friend. I firmly believe that Claire extended my dad’s life because of the love, laughter, compassion, silliness and extraordinary level of CARE she gave my dad - and she made him feel alive more than he had in a very long time. She was so good with him and he enjoyed his time with her so much that he actually forgot he was sick when she was around. They became forever friends, even though "forever" didn’t last long enough. From the very first day that I contacted Always Best Care of Upper BuxMont/Doylestown to arrange home care for my dad, I was met with an impressive and unexpected level of kindness, understanding and humanity. The owners, along with their team, felt like part of my family - which sounds strange I suppose, but there’s really no better way to describe it. This is not your typical caregiving agency, that’s for sure! I will forever be grateful to all of these wonderful people for how well they treated my dad.”

“I am a current client of this provider My elderly mother and I could not ask for better care! This is the 4th "agency" we've worked with, but Always Best Care is not an agency; they are more like family because they treat you like a family member. Ken and Rebecca are 100% honest & sincere in every aspect. I have never worked with more knowledgeable, caring people. Everyone communicates exceptionally; if there is a change or if someone runs late, you are notified right away (and those things don't happen often). With regard to caregivers, again they are exceptional, and like family. My loved one can be very challenging but they handle every situation with great care & commitment. I could not have survived the last few years without the care of two ladies in particular - they cared for my mother better than other family members did! Always Best Care is 100% responsive; you do not have to wait to hear from them or place a follow-up call. If the answer is not immediate, they will absolutely get back to you within hours. Always Best Care adapted to the Covid-19 issues seamlessly; no care was interrupted, and the utmost safety precautions were always in place. Always Best Care was able to help my mother keep her independence for as long as possible. They always treated my mother with respect and were always thoughtful of her dignity. Their business is appropriately named!”

“Ken Good was so helpful and knowledgable when my elderly father needed in-home care. He actually came to the rehab center to meet us where my father was getting physical therapy after a fall. We were afraid we'd have to move him to a nursing home but fortunately we were able to set up in-home care. It's been four months now and we have been very happy with the caregivers who have been assigned to my father. What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Furlong, PA?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Bonjour Creperie Food Truck or visit George Taylor House, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Furlong, PA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Furlong, PA

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your PA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
 Senior Care Furlong, PA

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Furlong, PA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Furlong, PA

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Furlong, PA

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • A Place For Mom - Senior Living Advisor Ellen Daubenspeck
  • Pine Run Village Lakeview Personal Care
  • The Bridges of Warwick
  • Heartis Bucks County Assisted Living
  • Bristol House Memory Care
  • Wesley Enhanced Living Doylestown

FURLONG, PA — Brynn Kremer has been playing guitar for only a year, but that didn’t stop her from wowing thousands of fans Friday night when she performed on stage with Green Day at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Green Day frontman Billie Jo Armstrong picked the 14-year-old from Furlong out of the crowd to play one of the band’s hits and quickly showed her the chords. It didn’t take long before Brynn was at the front of the stage, rocking out with one of her favorite bands.

Brynn showed no signs of nerves, despite playing for a crowd of tens of thousands with just two School of Rock concerts under her belt.

She “was a natural,” her parents, Dawn and Geoff, told Patch.

“I was just in shock, and I was really excited,” Brynn said of her “mind-blowing” experience. “I don’t know why, but I didn’t really think of the people (in the crowd).”

Find out what's happening in Doylestownwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Armstrong invited Brynn onstage after seeing her and her dad’s signs in the audience.

Brynn, who attends Holicong Middle School, was holding a sign that said it was her first rock concert. Knowing Green Day had asked fans to play with them at previous concerts, her dad, Geoff, used his sign to let the band know Brynn was ready to perform.

Geoff had seen previous Green Day setlists that showed the band invited fans on stage to play a cover of Operation Ivy's “Knowledge” after “Minority.” With “Minority” coming to an end, the Kremers hoisted their signs and caught Armstrong's attention.

“You can play? How long you been playing?” Armstrong asked Brynn from the stage. “You look very professional.”

“Can you play? OK, get your ass up here,” he told her.

Brynn said she was shocked when she realized Armstrong was talking to her, and she had no idea how to even get on the stage. She didn’t have much time to think about it, though, as she was immediately lifted over the barriers by fans around her.

Just a year after teaching Brynn her first chords, Geoff Kremer was living out a dream by “seeing my daughter jamming along” with Green Day, one of his favorite bands.

At the end of her electric 90-second jam with Green Day, Brynn did a stage dive to the delight of fans.

Green Day finished their show with “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” conjuring up a moment that nearly brought Geoff to tears after watching his daughter perform.

“This really was the time of my life,” he said.

Brynn went home with the guitar she played onstage, after it was signed by members of Green Day.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — A new family owned and operated doughnut store will be opening its doors on Thursday, Feb. 9 in Doylestown Township with a delicious assortment of ring-shaped fried goodness.

Curiosity Doughnuts, which some locals might remember from Stockton, New Jersey, has set up shop inside the former Back to the 50s Diner at 800 Edison-Furlong Road and Route 263 next to Rita’s Water Ice.

“We are opening with a limited menu that will gradually expand as we get used to our new space and figure out what’s possible, in terms of service and production. If we can’t do something well, you won’t be seeing it until we can,” said Chef Aki Kamozawa who co-owns the business with her husband, Alex. “For this opening week there will be doughnuts, drinks, one flavor of onigiri, and our classic pretzel crusted fried chicken sandwiches.”

Their doughnuts are unlike any you can find in the area. They are moist, delicious and bursting with flavor.

“Curiosity Doughnuts gets its name from our own restless curiosity,” said Aki. “We are always thinking about new flavors and textures, bouncing around different ideas, and rotating our offerings, because we’re never satisfied with the status quo,” she said.

According to Aki, Curiosity uses about 28 different types of dough in making their delectable creations.

“We don’t make every dough every day. The widest variety is on the weekend because that’s when we’re the busiest,” says Aki. "We do a combination of yeasted and cake. The majority of our yeasted doughnuts take about two days to make. And we’re inspired by all kinds of pastries and breads from everywhere,” she said.

One of its best selling doughnuts is its Curiosity Cruller.

“It is very different than you would get at another doughnut shop,” says Aki. “We also have an apple cider doughnut that everyone loves. And we have a Pennsylvania Dutch potato doughnut with potato in the dough.

“We also have something for everyone who loves chocolate - a chocolate yeasted doughnut, a chocolate cake doughnut and a vegan chocolate doughnut.”

While their crawlers, apple cider doughnuts and chocolate moose-filled challah doughnuts are popular, at Curiosity all the doughnuts are big sellers, says Aki.

“We never sell day old doughnuts,” she adds. “Every doughnut that you buy in our shop will have been made that day. All of our fruit glazes are made with fresh purees. And unless we’re using a cereal or something for fun, we don’t use food coloring. Everything comes naturally.”

Curiosity traces its beginnings to a recipe for buttermilk lime glazed doughnuts, which the couple had included in their second cookbook, “Maximum Flavor, Great Recipes and Why They Work.”

“When we were moving back to the area we were talking about what we wanted to do as our next project,” said Aki. “Kind of randomly Alex said he wanted to make doughnuts.

“We scouted them out in farmer’s markets and took road trips to try different variations. We saw a lot of great ideas and ate a lot of mediocre doughnuts. Great doughnuts were few and far between,” said Aki. “Long lines and good press did not always lead us to what we were looking for, but there was inspiration everywhere we looked.

“Not long after that, we stumbled across a space at the Stockton Market. They liked our idea for doughnuts and frozen custard and the rest is history.”

They opened their first shop inside the Stockton Market in 2015. Three years later, in 2018, they were offered a spot inside a new Whole Foods Store opening in Spring House, Montgomery County.

The opportunity was too good to pass up. So they closed their Stockton location and relocated to Spring House.

At the Spring House Whole Foods, they operated as an independent vendor for the past four and a half years making and selling their doughnuts to Whole Foods customers.

At their peak, they operated as an independent vendor at both the Whole Foods Stores in Spring House and in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

“We were so busy, but we didn’t have the space to expand and improve our work flow,” said Aki. “We ended up working longer and longer hours until we decided it wasn’t working anymore. We decided to go in a different direction.”

They closed their location at Whole Foods in July 2022 and signed the lease at its new 1800 square foot Doylestown location at the end of November.

“It’s been kind of a mad dash ever since then,” said Aki.

Their new 1800 square foot space is a little bigger than what they had planned, but it has allowed them to expand their menu to include a coffee program, egg creams and savory offerings, including breakfast sandwiches in the morning and fried chicken sandwiches in the afternoon.

“We’re going to have some fun with it,” she said of the menu.

To help launch the new shop, the couple organized a Kickstarter campaign in the fall, which offered exclusive opportunities and merchandise to donors in exchange for financial support.

Their Kickstarter supporters were also invited to a soft opening over the weekend, where they got to sample sweet and savory doughnuts and enjoy an egg cream sample.

One couple drove up from Center City Philadelphia for the soft opening. They stumbled upon Curiosity at a pop up shop that Aki and Alex operated briefly on Passyunk Avenue.

After checking out the long line at the Passyunk pop up, they fell in love with product and have continued to be loyal customers contributing to the Kickstarter campaign.

In addition to its doughnuts, one of the coolest byproducts of the shop are its homemade bars of soap, which are made from the recycled oil used to make the doughnuts.

“We go through a lot of oil frying things and we wanted to find a way to recycle it and make it useful,” said Aki.

For more information about Curiosity Doughnuts, visit curiositydoughnuts.com. Hours will be Wednesday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The kitchen closes at 2 p.m.

Leinster’s Furlong, who has 61 caps, has not captained a side since his days with Ireland Under-18s

Tadhg Furlong says it will be “class” to captain Ireland for the first time after declaring himself fit for Saturday’s Dublin showdown with Fiji.

Prop Furlong was one of three Irish players forced off by injury in last weekend’s 19-16 win over South Africa but has overcome the ankle issue to retain his place.

The British and Irish Lion has also been handed the responsibility of leading the team at the Aviva Stadium by head coach Andy Farrell, meaning regular skipper Johnny Sexton, who suffered a dead leg against the Springboks, and vice-captain James Ryan are almost certain to be among those rested.

Leinster player Furlong, who has 61 caps, has not captained a side since his days with Ireland Under-18s.

“I never even thought of it,” said the 29-year-old. “You know when you dream as a young fella, you want to play for Ireland, you want to play for Leinster, you want to play for the Lions – I never even dreamed of captaining Ireland.

“It could be my only time! Obviously I didn’t know if I would be playing or not, Faz (Farrell) said it to me on Monday, ‘would you skipper the team, if you’re fit and ready to go?’, so of course.

“It’s class, it’s class, it’s not something I ever thought was on my radar. To get an opportunity is special, you know? I just want to make the most out of the weekend.”

Asked about his ankle, he replied: “It feels good, thankfully, I’m good to go.”

Farrell will announce his team for Fiji on Thursday, with Ireland seeking an 11th successive home win to retain their place at the top of the world rankings.

Scrum-half Conor Murray has been ruled out after sustaining a groin problem against the Springboks, while centre Stuart McCloskey may be available following encouraging progress in his recovery from an arm injury.

The Wallabies suffered a shock 28-27 loss in Florence

Stand-in Ireland rugby captain Tadhg Furlong expects wounded Australia rugby to arrive in Dublin “all guns blazing” following their historic humiliation at the hands of Italy.

Andy Farrell’s men complete their autumn campaign against the Wallabies next weekend after backing up victory over world champions South Africa by beating Fiji.

While the Irish were claiming a disjointed 35-17 win over Vern Cotter’s side at the Aviva Stadium, much-changed Australia were simultaneously suffering a shock 28-27 loss in Florence.

The two-time world champions have lost 11 of 15 Tests during the past year following a landmark first defeat at the hands of the Azzurri and Furlong is braced for a response.

“I saw the result when I came off the pitch,” said the prop, who celebrates his 30th birthday on Monday.

“I suspect they are (a wounded animal). They’re a very proud nation. I’m sure they’ll be coming all guns blazing next week.”

British and Irish Lion Furlong became the 109th man to skipper Ireland, in the absence of injured fly-half Johnny Sexton.

The world’s top-ranked nation were well below their best on Saturday but recorded an 11th home victory in a row thanks to two tries from Nick Timoney, plus scores from Robert Baloucoune, Mack Hansen and Cian Healy.

“There’s stuff added to your prep that’s just a little bit different but I’ve enjoyed it,” Furlong said of the experience of leading his country.

“It’s a massive privilege for me to be able to represent the group at that level. Thanks to the boss man (Farrell) for giving me the chance. Not many people get to do it.”

Ireland overcame a sloppy start in which they fell behind to Kalaveti Ravouvou’s fourth-minute try to prolong their fine form.

Fiji were a man down for most of a disjointed second half following the dismissal of flanker Albert Tuisue, while Manasa Saulo and Api Ratuniyarawa each spent spells in the sin bin.

Speaking of the performance, Furlong added: “Yeah, stop start. We never really got going.

“I know there was a lot of penalties and we kicked and mauled a lot. Maybe that’s something to do with it. We never launched a massive amount but it just felt a little bit stop start. We didn’t get into our flow where we could play multi-phase really.”

Head coach Farrell will now asses the state of his squad ahead of the autumn finale.

Robbie Henshaw suffered a recurrence of a hamstring issue and left the field inside five minutes, while Joey Carbery, who was floored by the red-carded Tuisue, and Jimmy O’Brien must satisfy head injury protocols.

Sexton, Hugo Keenan, James Ryan, Andrew Porter and Josh Van Der Flier have each been sidelined since last weekend’s win over the Springboks.

“I’m as curious as you are to get back into work and see how that is,” Farrell, who will have Bundee Aki back from suspension, said of the injury situation.

“The reality is is that the bodies that were missing this week haven’t trained with us at all because they’re nursing different injuries.

“Coming back into camp on Sunday night and how things flow from Monday morning is going to be interesting for us all this week.”
