HILLTOWN TWP., Pa. - A longtime destination for annuals, perennials, houseplants and fresh-cut flowers is bidding farewell in Bucks County.
Frederick’s Flowers & Greenhouses, a 91-year-old business offering a wide array of plants, flower arrangements, gifts and more, is set to close Nov. 22 at 3523 Bethlehem Pike in Hilltown Township, according to Greg Muse, who runs the business with his mother, Mary Muse.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we are announcing the closing of Frederick’s Flowers & Gifts,” the Muses announced on the business’ Facebook page. “Serving the community since 1932, Frederick’s has been dedicated to helping you all with your floral needs. We are all thankful for the support that you have all provided us since our opening.”
Original owner Paul Frederick established Frederick’s in 1932, originally operating it in nearby Telford.
Greg’s father took over the business in the early 1960s and moved it to its current location just outside Souderton in 1968.
St. Luke’s University Health Network has purchased the Bethlehem Pike property and plans to construct a new medical facility on site, Greg said.
“We appreciate our customers so much and are so thankful for them,” Greg said. “We will miss everyone.”
Frederick’s carries a vast selection of plants, including cacti, succulents, houseplants, potted flowers and citrus plants, in its greenhouse.
“Ever since COVID, we’ve seen a big resurgence in houseplants,” Greg said.
The retail store features a wide array of household items and gifts, including soaps, candles, flags, greeting cards, silk flowers, stuffed animals and seasonal décor.
With the business set to close later this month, nearly all items have been discounted at least 50% off their original prices.
“People will find great deals,” Greg said. “I’m still putting up signs announcing the discounts, but our candles, plush items and houseplants are all 50% off. Our Hummel figurines are 75% off, and our mums are on sale for two for $10.”
Business hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, but in-store shopping is set to end on Nov. 17, Greg said.
Flower orders for delivery will only be accepted online and over the phone during the week of Thanksgiving.
Greg, who is unsure of his next professional endeavor, hopes longtime customers visit Frederick’s over the next couple of weeks to say their goodbyes and score some deals.
“I’ve done this my whole life," Greg said. "I'm going to miss everyone."
