They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Sellersville Train Station gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Sellersville, PA is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

“Ken Good was a life saver in helping us find a CCRC in Doylestown, PA for my brother in law, PP. We had 5 days notice that he could no longer stay at the rehab center. Within 24 hours, Ken sent an e-mail identifying facilities whom he had spoken to including 6 that would most likely PP given his limited assets in addition to those that would not and those who had not returned his call. These recommendations were updated daily. I don't know what we would have done but for Ken's knowledge, accessibility and obvious respect from so many facilities that promptly returned his call . Because of Ken's quick and accurate recommendations, PP was accepted to a Personal Care facility that meets his needs perfectly. We highly recommend Ken Good and Always Best Care Senior Services”

“My beloved dad recently passed away after losing his battle with cancer. During his last months, he was lucky enough to have had Claire as his caregiver and friend. I firmly believe that Claire extended my dad’s life because of the love, laughter, compassion, silliness and extraordinary level of CARE she gave my dad - and she made him feel alive more than he had in a very long time. She was so good with him and he enjoyed his time with her so much that he actually forgot he was sick when she was around. They became forever friends, even though "forever" didn’t last long enough. From the very first day that I contacted Always Best Care of Upper BuxMont/Doylestown to arrange home care for my dad, I was met with an impressive and unexpected level of kindness, understanding and humanity. The owners, along with their team, felt like part of my family - which sounds strange I suppose, but there’s really no better way to describe it. This is not your typical caregiving agency, that’s for sure! I will forever be grateful to all of these wonderful people for how well they treated my dad.”

“My elderly mother and I could not ask for better care! This is the 4th "agency" we've worked with, but Always Best Care is not an agency; they are more like family because they treat you like a family member. Ken and Rebecca are 100% honest & sincere in every aspect. I have never worked with more knowledgeable, caring people. Everyone communicates exceptionally; if there is a change or if someone runs late, you are notified right away (and those things don't happen often). With regard to caregivers, again they are exceptional, and like family. My loved one can be very challenging but they handle every situation with great care & commitment. I could not have survived the last few years without the care of two ladies in particular - they cared for my mother better than other family members did! Always Best Care is 100% responsive; you do not have to wait to hear from them or place a follow-up call. If the answer is not immediate, they will absolutely get back to you within hours. Always Best Care adapted to the Covid-19 issues seamlessly; no care was interrupted, and the utmost safety precautions were always in place. Always Best Care was able to help my mother keep her independence for as long as possible. They always treated my mother with respect and were always thoughtful of her dignity. Their business is appropriately named!”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Sellersville, PA?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local The Washington House Hotel & Restaurant or visit The Sellersville Museum, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Sellersville, PA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Sellersville, PA

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your PA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Sellersville, PA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Sellersville, PA

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Sellersville, PA

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Hidden Meadows On the Ridge
  • The Community at Rockhill
  • Sellersville Senior Apartments
  • Peaceful Living
  • LifePath

Got a question about life in Philly’s suburbs? Our suburban reporters want to hear from you! Ask us a question or send an idea for a story you think we should cover.

Since 2020, the borough has approved nearly $80 million worth of development projects.

The changes are part of the borough’s 2019 Comprehensive Plan, which officials developed along with the Bucks County Planning Commission. The plan started with a community survey in 2016, which showed that most Sellersville residents were “genuinely concerned and willing to invest in revitalization.” Almost 70% of respondents indicated they would offer time and/or financial assistance to improve the borough.

Sellersville hired Stephen Barth of Barth Consulting Group. Barth, along with new borough manager, Eileen Bradley, are trying to court new businesses and developers. Barth says the historic Sellersville Theater, which draws thousands of people annually, is at the heart of the revitalization efforts.

In June, officials unveiled a new 40-foot mural at the theater. The mural has become a symbol for the borough’s revitalization efforts. Sellersville Theater recently launched a social media campaign posting photos of visiting artists in front of the mural with the hashtag #STmural. Billy Bob Thornton posed there in June.

“Five years down the road, we will have a very thriving downtown with a nightlife, populated with multiple restaurants, breweries, little retail shops, that are anchored, still, by the Sellersville Theater,” Barth said.

There are already some new business additions including an independent, woman-owned bookstore, a rare coins and metals shop, and a cafe that sells homemade kielbasa. Plans are afoot to convert an old cigar factory into luxury apartments and a commercial space. In January, the borough approved a 74-townhome project on Elmhurst Avenue.

Last summer, a vacant industrial space, the former Ametek site on Clymer Avenue, was approved to become a new business park. Lois Dodson, Sellersville Borough Council president, wrote in the summer newsletter that the 200,000 square foot space with three new buildings “will soon be the catalyst for hundreds of new jobs.” The project is ready to break ground, Bradley said.

Barth said it’s not just about welcoming new businesses; the borough is also supporting existing business owners by helping them with their business plans and social media marketing strategies. Barth is creating architectural sketches to show business owners how they can beautify their storefronts.

“The trick to revitalizing a community is not only courting new development, but it’s the business retention,” he added.

Barth said he and his team are committed to maintaining the town’s historical character. They are seeking developers who specialize in renovating and repurposing historic buildings.

Not everyone seems to be on board with all the changes. Some residents have pushed back against the Elmhurst Avenue townhome project. A petition was started last year to halt the development. Signatories raised concerns about traffic and increased flooding along East Branch Creek.

The petition says East Park Avenue has had issues with the feeder stream flooding for years and the wetlands within the proposed development “will be disturbed with installation of impervious surfaces that will induce more stormwater runoff through adjoining neighbors’ properties.”

Sellersville Theater owner Elayne Brick is among the residents who welcome the revitalization projects. She said the borough will only improve by having more businesses.

“There’s always going to be people who are frightened by it,” Brick said. “But I do think that the borough is careful about making sure they’re making the right decisions about what should go where.”

Brick said she hopes the town can attract a business that offers activities for families. She is also advocating for attractive street lighting and improved sidewalks.

For the quaint historic town, all of these changes could be transformative, officials say.

“I think we are going to be one of the most charming little Bucks County towns,” Barth said.

R&S Keystone started with Kerr’s parents, Clarence “Butch” and Thelma Ruth, who opened their first diner in 1948 in Hatfield on Route 309. R&S was purchased on Old Bethlehem Pike and opened in 1960, according to The Morning Call.

If you did not know, the R&S stands for Ruth & Smith, who were Kerr’s dad and his business partner.

“My dad always believed in serving the truckers,” said Kerr in 1987. “When he rebuilt the first restaurant farther back from the road but still at the same location, he made sure the parking lot was big enough to accommodate tractor- trailers. He knew that people figure a restaurant is good if truckers eat there.”

R&S Keystone’s menu over the years featured favorites like oven roasted turkey with filling and giblet gravy, broiled brook trout, sirloin steak, and deep-fried deviled clams.

In 1987, a Morning Call food critic glorified R&S Keystone Restaurant’s fare:

“Fancy food lovers who must have gourmet entrees with elaborate French names will not find happiness here. The diner is unpretentious. The owner seeks only to serve quality food at very reasonable prices – a goal she has achieved. Those who seek hearty fare with home-cooked flavor will give the establishment an A+.”

According to customers, R&S Keystone was a place where a line was expected to form every night from Wednesday to Saturday, but the wait was never more than 10 minutes or so.

Kerr, who carried on her parents’ tradition, would serve quality meals and even catered to customers’ special needs or requests. At her side were her brother Mark and manager David Freed.

Kerr and her crew celebrated 70 years in 2018 with a ribbon cutting ceremony led by Bob Kelly of “Good Day Philadelphia,” as seen in The Reporter.

One of the former cooks showed up to the ceremony – Antje Yocum, who worked there from ages 19 to 71, leaving in 2012.

“Time goes fast,” she told The Reporter. “But then, everybody’s in the same boat.”

Customers expressed their love for the diner on various Facebook posts on the diner’s page.

“I’m sure I won’t get there, but I can’t tell you how many times we ate there after church when I was growing up!” wrote Tami Gerber. “The good old days. When the ramp line was fast and the food was slower but the staff made it the best!” wrote Pelly Roja.

For now, customers will just have to get scrapple at Roy Ann Diner up the street. Roy Ann expressed its gratitude to Kerr and honored R&S Keystone Diner for its years in business.

On May 10, the Roy Ann Diner’s owner clarified on Facebook it was not sold or closing, but understood R&S was under contract to be sold.

“However, if this is their last week, we here at Roy Ann Diner and personally from the entire Smith family wish Joanne & Dennis a heartfelt thank you for all you have provided to the community over the last 75 years!” they wrote. “We wish you Godspeed in whatever you choose in your life's journey.”

The fate of the building is unconfirmed, but customers have shared their rumors with one another. Some say it will become a medical facility for Abington Health, and others claim it will be a Grand View Hospital medical facility. A few more claim Landis Market will take it over.

Whatever its future holds, the business has given people great memories of good food.

Check, please.

SELLERSVILLE, Pa. - Neighbors are reacting as painful new information emerges about seven children who were removed from deplorable conditions last April. Officials now say those children were also severely abused by their parents.

Police on Monday filed new charges, including strangulation, following conversations with the children after they were taken from their home, in the Green Top Trailer Park in West Rockhill Township, months ago.

"Thank God they're in jail," a neighbor, wishing to remain unidentified, said. "Throw away the key please."

Some neighbors living very close to the family's home on Roseann Lane didn't want to appear on camera, but spoke with 69 News about how distressed they are.

"We are horrified," the same neighbor said. "This is all, we had no idea."

Neighbors are now learning just how bad it allegedly was for the seven juveniles ranging in age from four to 16 at the time of the alleged incidents.

"My heart just broke," another neighbor, also very close to the home, said. "I broke down in tears that night. Fact, I get misty eyed now thinking about how those kids were treated."

New charges against parents Shane Robertson and Crystal Robertson on Monday come with disturbing new details described in court papers.

Documents describe an account where one of the seven children under 12 said, "we got beat by daddy and mommy a lot."

The affidavit alleges Shane punched one of his girls in the face, "causing a bloody nose."

When she tried to run away, Shane dragged her back by her hair, court papers say.

Another of the seven said once, when Shane and Crystal were arguing, Crystal told Shane, "...kill them if you want." Then Shane held a blanket over the girl's face, as she struggled to breathe, authorities said.

Shane is now charged with strangulation. He and Crystal both face several charges of simple assault.

This all comes after the seven children were removed from the home back in April for living in squalor.

Court papers described six of the seven kids as clinically malnourished.

"They used to climb the fence and steal food from their garden," one neighbor tells 69 News.

The newest details say the kids were starving, so they would "steal" food out of the fridge or Crystal's purse. For this, Shane would beat the children with cords, his belt, or his hands, authorities said.

Some of the neighbors tell 69 News they would wonder why the kids were outside, sometimes barefoot or without jackets. But none of the neighbors say they realized the extent of the abuse.

Julie Mermon lives down the street from the home.

"We were devastated," she said. "Because no one knew. So if we would have known, we would have done something about it."

"It was during COVID," a nearby neighbor said. "I tried to talk to the mother off and on, but she was very curt and the kids always ran away from me."

The papers also say, "Both Shane and Crystal would use a cord, their hands, or anything within their reach to strike the children."

Injuries included "red marks, handprints, and welts," according to one child. That child also says a sibling, identified in the documents as JV6, was "beaten the worst."

JV6 is one of the four children under the age of 12.

What's more, one child says Shane handed her a knife and told her to stab herself. Another time, papers say he told her to go behind the shed and kill herself.

While one child described Shane as more abusive than Crystal, another recounted how Crystal would leave and tell Shane to "have at it" while he was beating the children.

Both parents are at Bucks County Correctional Facility. They're due for a preliminary hearing for the original and new charges on Monday.

SELLERSVILLE, PA. – In August 2018, Penn Medicine and Grand View Health set a vision to develop collaborative services at Grand View Hospital in an effort to provide comprehensive care that kept patients closer to home. Four years later, the relationship is flourishing, with programs in Cancer (including Radiation Oncology), Trauma, Neurosciences, and Orthopaedics. Early this month, the two organizations signed a renewal of their strategic alliance for five more years.

“The world has changed considerably in the four years since the inception of our strategic alliance,” said Douglas Hughes, RN, BSN, MBA, president and CEO at Grand View Health. “Our community is growing, and we are expanding to meet their needs. We’re exploring every avenue possible to ensure we are always ready to deliver the highest quality of care close to home and our alliance with Penn Medicine is one more way we’re making good on that promise.”

Most recently, the two health systems came together through the Penn Trauma Network, earning Grand View Health accreditation as a Level II Trauma Center. Since opening last September, the center has provided trauma care for nearly 700 patients, including 67 who received critical care transportation to Penn via the PennSTAR program.

Key initiatives and accomplishments of the alliance have included:

The contract renewal includes terms which strengthen the collaboration, anticipating significant program development and extending the timeframe of the engagement into 2027.

“Over the first four years of our alliance with Grand View Health, patients in Bucks and Montgomery counties have had access to the highest level of healthcare right in their own community,” said Kevin B. Mahoney, CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. “In everything we do, the patient is at the center. When it’s a tough case, we want to be able to help them through the specialized expertise available at our Philadelphia campuses, but as much as possible, we’re focused on meeting the patient’s needs and their family’s needs close to where they live. Together, we’re giving patients as many options as possible.”

Penn Medicine is one of the world’s leading academic medical centers, dedicated to the related missions of medical education, biomedical research, excellence in patient care, and community service. The organization consists of the University of Pennsylvania Health System and Penn’s Raymond and Ruth Perelman School of Medicine, founded in 1765 as the nation’s first medical school.

The Perelman School of Medicine is consistently among the nation's top recipients of funding from the National Institutes of Health, with $550 million awarded in the 2022 fiscal year. Home to a proud history of “firsts” in medicine, Penn Medicine teams have pioneered discoveries and innovations that have shaped modern medicine, including recent breakthroughs such as CAR T cell therapy for cancer and the mRNA technology used in COVID-19 vaccines.

The University of Pennsylvania Health System’s patient care facilities stretch from the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania to the New Jersey shore. These include the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Chester County Hospital, Lancaster General Health, Penn Medicine Princeton Health, and Pennsylvania Hospital—the nation’s first hospital, founded in 1751. Additional facilities and enterprises include Good Shepherd Penn Partners, Penn Medicine at Home, Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital, and Princeton House Behavioral Health, among others.

Penn Medicine is an $11.1 billion enterprise powered by more than 49,000 talented faculty and staff.

Step inside The Pickers Junction, nestled in the quaint borough of Sellersville, and you might feel like you’ve found a secret trove — with its vintage charm and treasures dating as far back as the 1700s.

But this hidden gem is about to gain a lot more attention since catching the interest of the team behind The HISTORY Channel’s Pawn Stars over the summer.

“I got a phone call from a producer, and they asked if they could film in our store,” said Leslie O’Brien, the shop’s owner. “They looked up antique stores from Valley Forge to Quakertown and picked ours.”

Two weeks later, Leslie and her husband, Timothy O’Brien, were visited at their shop by Pawn Stars’ Austin “Chumlee” Russell and a film crew from the series’ newest spin-off Pawn Stars Do America.

They will appear on the show’s second episode, which airs Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. on HISTORY.

Pawn Stars Do America is an eight-part series in which Rick Harrison, Corey Harrison and Chumlee leave Las Vegas and hit the road, visiting eight different cities across the U.S. in search of historical finds and uncommon collectibles.

“Over the years, some amazing stuff has come through my doors, but there’s even more to discover outside the shop,” Rick Harrison said in the opening credits of the show’s first episode which premiered Nov. 9. “And to help weigh in on the stuff we find in each city, we’ll meet up with a few of our favorite experts, as we look for those cool treasures that might not make it to Vegas.”

Pickers Junction, located on North Main Street just a stone’s throw away from the Sellersville Theater, opened in 2013. Its 6,500-square foot space is filled with antiques and curiosities — including a Revolutionary War musket and a yellow 1973 Schwinn bicycle which hangs from the ceiling.

“We are the only store you can haggle in,” Leslie said. “New items arrive daily and it’s a picker’s dream. There are treasures everywhere.”

The shop is made up of five large rooms offering everything new and old, from custom painted furniture and handcrafted gifts to vintage musical instruments and antique record players.

“There’s always something new to find. If you start at one end, it would take you over an hour to look through and wander,” Timothy said.

The shop brings in visitors from all over the country, said Leslie. But having a television crew come into her store and cameras follow them around was entirely new for the couple.

“I was really nervous, but it was also really exciting. They told us to just be ourselves. They made us feel right at home,” she said.

Timothy had the pleasure of getting the full Pawn Stars experience as he went back and forth over a few items bought by Chumlee, who brought along expert picker, Spencer Victory.

“I had to do a lot of haggling with Chumlee,” Timothy said. “But he was down to earth, really nice and very professional.”

The whole encounter gave the couple a greater appreciation for their soon-to-be-not-so-hidden gem as they look forward to watching the episode at home with their 4-year-old son.

“All of our family and friends will be watching, too, so we’ll probably be getting lots of phone calls that night,” Leslie said.

“For them to like us and to pick us, it makes us really happy.”
