“Always Best Care of Greater Worcester is wonderful. The person who answers the telephone (her name is Donna), and she's older like we are. She has a clue about what we're talking about when we're asking for help and why, so it becomes a very personal conversation. I was introduced to the director. He is an RN, plus a few other things. When he comes in to do the assessment for what you need, he works really hard at putting together the right caregiver with the person asking. He was just absolutely lovely. We needed somebody who could drive to do errands, and then I needed help with the laundry and occasional meals. The caregiver picks up and tidies around. She does bathing for my husband, who is almost bedbound. She does other simple health-related things for him. For me, she helps with my bathing because I have a bad back and bad knees. She's nice, and she's sweet. She can be a little tough when she needs to be, which is what we wanted. Not to be abusive, but just someone with a firm hand. When you don't feel well, you tend to act like a 7-year-old; it doesn't matter how old you are. She is just lovely. We couldn't ask for anything better.”

 In-Home Care Boylston, MA

How does In-home Senior Care in Boylston, MA work?

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it's especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age. When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one ages, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

 Senior Care Boylston, MA

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a unfamiliar assisted living community, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

Comfort
Comfort

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them? A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old. With the help of elderly care in Boylston, MA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Healthy Living
Healthy Living

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors. Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

Independence
Independence

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like an assisted living community. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

Cost and Convenience
Cost and Convenience

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, can be less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care in Boylston, MA gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Empowers Seniors

Affordable Care Plans

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

Veteran's Benefits
Veteran's Benefits

Aid and Attendance benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.

Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-Term Care Insurance

Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.

Private Insurance
Private Insurance

Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.

Life Insurance

Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Boylston,MA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

WEST BOYLSTON – Wachusett Plaza will trade handing out college degrees for intense workouts later this year when a pickleball indoor venue takes over the space where Salter College once catered to Central Massachusetts students.

Coined Rt. 12 Pickle, aptly named after the street that passes by - also known as West Boylston Street – the venue will use 30,000 square feet on a multiyear lease, according to real estate broker Kelleher & Sadowsky.

The venue will open sometime by the end of the year.

A sport that looks a lot like tennis, pickleball has gained popularity in the last few years as it’s easy to learn and play, it’s fast-paced and gives a great workout.

The sport is played with a paddle that is bigger than the one used in ping-pong that is used to whack back and forth a plastic, perforated ball that is a few holes away from being called a Wiffle Ball.

The sport is played on a court the size of a badminton court – slightly smaller than a tennis court - and it’s one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, with 8.9 million players in the U.S. last year, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association.

That’s a 158.6% growth since 2020.

Developed in 1989 at 184 West Boylston St., Wachusett Plaza spreads out on a total of 102,000 square feet with tenants including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Central Mass Safety Council (CMSC), Planet Fitness, Froze Zone, Miku Sushi, Brown Rice Thai Cuisine and Three Rivers Nursery School, according to Kelleher & Sadowsky.

It is currently owned by Surabian Realty Company, a West Boylston real estate company which purchased the plaza for $3.5 million in 2004, according to the Worcester Registry of Deeds.

Salter College was previously the plaza’s anchor, moving there in 2007, offering vocational training and associate degrees.

The school folded in 2019, after 82 years since its founding on Cedar Street in Worcester as Salter Secretarial School.

In the 1990s, the Wachusett Plaza was also home to a Prime Value Mart and later a Price Chopper Supermarket.

The LEGO Group on Monday announced the location of its new Boston offices.

The company announced in January that it was planning to move its head office in the Americas from Connecticut to Boston. But until now the exact location had remained a mystery.

The LEGO Group said 1001 Boylston Street has been chosen as the location of its Americas head office when the company relocates in 2026. The office will be located in a development being built over the Massachusetts Turnpike at the intersection of Boylston Street, Massachusetts Avenue and Newbury Street. According to the Boston Business Journal, the project is also slated to be the headquarters of CarGurus and will host a CitizenM hotel next door.

"We’re incredibly excited to be moving to a new location with such a rich history, ideally located in Back Bay, between Boston and Cambridge," Skip Kodak, president of the LEGO Group in the Americas, said in a statement. "1001 Boylston Street represents an investment in our future and a commitment to our employees. We believe that a modern, collaborative work environment will help creativity and innovation thrive, and we're excited to see what we can accomplish in this new space.”

Lego Is Bringing Its North American Headquarters to Boston – What's the Impact on Jobs?

Lego has some 700 jobs at the current Connecticut location, but it's not clear how many of those will really transition to Boston.

The company said the selection of 1001 Boylston Street followed an "extensive search of Boston," noting that it was "strategically chosen to draw upon the region's diverse talent pool and foster strong relationships with other innovative companies in the area."

The new office spaces will be spread over five floors and more than 100,000 square feet, and will be accessible to employees walking and cycling to work, and a short distance from the MBTA's Green and Orange lines.

The LEGO Group's move from its current location in Enfield, Connecticut, to 1001 Boylston Street is scheduled to begin in mid-2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The company has been at its Connecticut home since 1975.

LEGO has around 740 people working full-time at its Connecticut location, all of whom are being offered jobs in Boston. Those who don't wish to relocate will get financial and job placement help, the company has said.

Officials from Boston lauded the move when it was announced, while Connecticut officials were understandably disappointed that the company will be leaving their state.

Boston beat out New York and a location in Connecticut. The city isn't giving the company any tax breaks, and LEGO has said it wasn't interested in any incentives.

BOYLSTON, Mass. - A project nearly two decades in the making finally came to fruition on Thursday - a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for Rand-Whitney’s new packaging facility in Boylston.

What You Need To Know

Gov. Maura Healey and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft took a tour of the state-of-the-art building. Rand-Whitney CEO Nick Smith first walked the site of his company’s new 384,000 square foot home in 2005, but the economic recession three years later would put plans on hold.

It wasn’t until the e-commerce boom during the COVID-19 pandemic that fortunes began to turn. It was a profitable time for a company specializing in packaging.

“We went to ownership in fall 2020 and essentially said on faith, we think the demand is there, our customers are going to do great, we’d like to move forward with this project," Smith said.

It took a $125 million investment from parent company The Kraft Group to finally turn this vision into reality, but Robert Kraft saw the vision and approved.

At the ceremony, he reflected on his commutes to Worcester shortly after graduating from Harvard Business School, when he used to work a factory job feeding paper into a corrugation machine.

“Here I am standing almost 60 years later, and I wouldn’t believe it," Kraft said. "We’re opening the most modern plant in America. This will be the best plant, the most efficient, and people will come visit here from all over the world.”

Only about a third of the company’s equipment has been moved in - the rest will arrive over the next year. The building’s scale is massive, and its designers say you have to see it in person to truly appreciate it.

John Stebbins, managing director of PROCON design, recalled a visit he made to the site early in construction.

“They were doing a slab placement inside and there were about 30 concrete trucks inside the building along with maybe 120 concrete workers finishing the slab, and you looked around the building, and even with all that activity, it looked empty," Stebbins said.

Healey celebrated the success story of a local, family-owned business working together with the Town of Boylston to overcome all the project’s challenges, and looks forward to seeing its benefits for the state.

“Know that you’re going to have a partner in me and Kim Driscoll and this administration because we want every community in every region of the state really, really thriving," Healey said. "What an amazing model, I don’t know if we can replicate it, but that’s what we should be aspiring to do across this state.”

Rand-Whitney is the largest independent corrugated packaging manufacturer in New England, and its roots in Worcester date back to 1938.

The final piece for Lego’s move to Boston is now in place.

The Denmark-based toymaker said on Monday that it selected 1001 Boylston St., the office and lab building under construction over the Massachusetts Turnpike along Mass. Ave., as its new Americas headquarters.

Lego Group said in January that it would relocate to the city from Enfield, Conn., bringing about 740 jobs with it, in what would be one of the larger headquarters moves to Boston in recent years.

Governor Maura Healey called Lego’s arrival “an incredible opportunity to bring new jobs and innovation to the area, while inspiring the next generation of leaders.”

Toast moving across town to Fort Point for its new headquartersAs Boston office market stagnates, worry grows about the value of big buildingsWu administration will offer tax breaks to turn office buildings into housing

The company is leasing 100,000 square feet across five floors in the building — which will also be home to the headquarters of car-shopping website CarGurus Inc. — enough space to house between 700 and 750 workers. It will move there in phases, with plans to open its Boston headquarters by mid-2025 and close its Connecticut office by the end of 2026. Employees have until mid-February to decide whether they want to relocate.

When Lego opened its 330,000-square-foot Connecticut campus in 1975, the facility was intended to serve as a manufacturing hub and distribution center. It’s one of the company’s longest-held facilities, so packing up shop to move to Boston was not a decision company leadership took lightly, said Skip Kodak, president of Lego Group in the Americas.

“What we were looking for in terms of workforce, in terms of location, in terms of amenities, was completely different from where we are today, nearly 50 years later,” Kodak said.

The new office’s location near both downtown Boston and Cambridge, access to public transportation, and sustainable building elements were draws. Being just a mile down Mass. Ave. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was also a plus. The toymaker has partnered with MIT for nearly 40 years, sponsoring the MIT Media Lab and collaborating on robotics and automation, and the Lego Foundation in 2017 endowed a graduate student fellowship program at the Media Lab. Kodak is hopeful a Boston headquarters will create more opportunities for partnerships.

“Being in proximity can make a big difference in collaboration,” Kodak said. “You don’t know who you might bump into when you move into a new neighborhood.”

The newly built office also gives ample opportunity for Lego to build out its space in a way that inspires creativity.

“It shouldn’t just be rows and rows of desks,” Kodak said. “It needs to be fun. It needs to be engaging. It needs to be inspiring for our employees every day.”

The move to Boston follows the company’s opening of a headquarters campus in Billund, Denmark, a facility complete with gray Lego bricks dotting its facad, and large yellow LEGO brick sky boxes atop the roof. The company is growing worldwide: this spring, LEGO broke ground on a $1 billion, 1.7 million-square-foot manufacturing facility south of Richmond, Va. — a facility that’s expected to employ 1,761 people — and is also developing another $1 billion factory near Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City.

With the Lego deal, the office and lab portion of the 450,000-square-foot 1001 Boylston is 75 percent leased. There’s also another 35,000 square feet of street-level retail and restaurants. No names have been announced, but there’s “lots of interest,” said Peter Sougarides, principal at Samuels & Associates, which is developing the project.

Beyond the office, the air-rights project will feature a CitizenM hotel, a new MBTA station entrance, and public plaza with retail, restaurants, and open space connecting Newbury and Boylston along Mass. Ave. The first air-rights project over the highway in decades — one that former governor Charlie Baker once pronounced “an incredible feat of engineering” — requires spanning eight lanes of roadway and active rail lines.

The project is at a critical and highly trafficked intersection, albeit one that for decades has been unfriendly to pedestrians and cyclists. Since starting work on the project in summer 2020, crews have moved the Interstate 90 on-ramp to “lessen conflict between cars and people” and opened up space for a safer bus station and better bike transit, said Steve Samuels, founder and chairman of his eponymous real estate development firm.

“We took it from really inhospitable to a place that’s going to be special and comfortable,” Samuels said. “It was always calling for a destination.”

Lego was a highly sought after tenant, particularly given the ongoing instability in the city’s office market. The toymaker is among the handful of large office users looking to grow in Boston this year, and one of the few headquarters moves in the city following the COVID-19 pandemic. It would bring nearly as many workers as General Electric planned to put here when it announced its move in 2016. Of course, most of those workers never materialized after a financial meltdown led to the breakup of the GE into three separate companies.

“When you move a headquarters, it’s a major statement,” Sougarides said. “It was a very competitive process.”

Elkus Manfredi Architects and LeBlanc Jones Landscape Architects, both of Boston, designed the project. The outdoor plaza takes cues from Manhattan’s High Line, Samuels said.

“Lego has chosen a headquarters that itself reflects the power of civil engineering to enliven and beautify neighborhoods. It’s a perfect fit,” said Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.

CarGurus has already installed its red-and-blue sign on its exterior, which is visible on both the Back Bay skyline and to drivers entering central Boston on the Turnpike below. While there are no plans yet for a colorful Lego logo on the building’s front, the company and Samuels intend to keep the matter open for discussion. Kodak said signage is “an interesting opportunity.”

“There may be a possibility to partner with the developer on that in the future,” Kodak said.

BOYLSTON - The New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in Boylston has been named the Best Botanical Garden in the U.S.

Travel Awaits, a website that focuses on travelers over the age of 50, ranked it number one in the country in its 2023 poll.

"It means that we are so important to our community and our community here in central Mass. and in the New England region really, has chosen us for this recognition," New England Botanic Garden CEO Grace Elton told WBZ-TV.

"We have beautiful plant collections, we have really peaceful hiking trails. We have amazing classes, we have really fun events."

For nature lovers, the 171 acres will take you through conservatories, hiking trails, meadows, woodlands and wetlands. And for those just learning, the garden's outreach programs are top notch.

"It really happens in different ways. Sometimes the group says, 'We have a great youth group and we want them to come here and do a nature walk and an activity and do a science based art craft,' and we will connect with them that way, otherwise we might do a community celebration or a cultural event."

Elton believes everybody should have green where they live. So in a lot of the outreach programs at the Botanical Garden, they make sure they build trees, where there are not.

"Our mission off-site (is) to go into the Worcester community and the greater Massachusetts community and teach people about plants, connect them with nature. Show them why they should care about the environment," she said.
