They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

“Always Best Care of Greater Worcester is wonderful. The person who answers the telephone (her name is Donna), and she's older like we are. She has a clue about what we're talking about when we're asking for help and why, so it becomes a very personal conversation. I was introduced to the director. He is an RN, plus a few other things. When he comes in to do the assessment for what you need, he works really hard at putting together the right caregiver with the person asking. He was just absolutely lovely. We needed somebody who could drive to do errands, and then I needed help with the laundry and occasional meals. The caregiver picks up and tidies around. She does bathing for my husband, who is almost bedbound. She does other simple health-related things for him. For me, she helps with my bathing because I have a bad back and bad knees. She's nice, and she's sweet. She can be a little tough when she needs to be, which is what we wanted. Not to be abusive, but just someone with a firm hand. When you don't feel well, you tend to act like a 7-year-old; it doesn't matter how old you are. She is just lovely. We couldn't ask for anything better.”

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Boylston, MA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your MA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Boylston, MA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Boylston, MA

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Boylston, MA

  • Centro Viviendo Bien
  • Living Well Center
  • Briarwood Continuing Care Retirement Community

WEST BOYLSTON – Wachusett Plaza will trade handing out college degrees for intense workouts later this year when a pickleball indoor venue takes over the space where Salter College once catered to Central Massachusetts students.

Coined Rt. 12 Pickle, aptly named after the street that passes by - also known as West Boylston Street – the venue will use 30,000 square feet on a multiyear lease, according to real estate broker Kelleher & Sadowsky.

The venue will open sometime by the end of the year.

A sport that looks a lot like tennis, pickleball has gained popularity in the last few years as it’s easy to learn and play, it’s fast-paced and gives a great workout.

The sport is played with a paddle that is bigger than the one used in ping-pong that is used to whack back and forth a plastic, perforated ball that is a few holes away from being called a Wiffle Ball.

The sport is played on a court the size of a badminton court – slightly smaller than a tennis court - and it’s one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, with 8.9 million players in the U.S. last year, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association.

That’s a 158.6% growth since 2020.

Developed in 1989 at 184 West Boylston St., Wachusett Plaza spreads out on a total of 102,000 square feet with tenants including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Central Mass Safety Council (CMSC), Planet Fitness, Froze Zone, Miku Sushi, Brown Rice Thai Cuisine and Three Rivers Nursery School, according to Kelleher & Sadowsky.

It is currently owned by Surabian Realty Company, a West Boylston real estate company which purchased the plaza for $3.5 million in 2004, according to the Worcester Registry of Deeds.

Salter College was previously the plaza’s anchor, moving there in 2007, offering vocational training and associate degrees.

The school folded in 2019, after 82 years since its founding on Cedar Street in Worcester as Salter Secretarial School.

In the 1990s, the Wachusett Plaza was also home to a Prime Value Mart and later a Price Chopper Supermarket.

The Division 8 Super Bowl between Carver and West Boylston will showcase two formidable offenses, each averaging over 41 points per game.

After winning only three games last year, Carver (11-1) is relishing the opportunity to take the field for Wednesday’s opening state championship game at Gillette Stadium at 5:30 p.m.

“We’re pumped. We’re thrilled.” said Carver head coach Ben Shuffain. “It’s nice when the work the kids and staff put in throughout the year pays off and you get to the big game again.”

Carver has multiple weapons to choose from on offense. Quarterback Tyler Lennox poses a serious threat through the air, with his 37 touchdown passes and 2,711 passing yards ranking among the best in the state.

“His growth the last couple of years has been tremendous,” Shuffain said. “He’s a terrific leader on and off the field. A high character kid with a good arm and he’s very smart athletically.”

The most versatile player on the Carver roster is Jameson Helms, who can play running back, receiver and middle linebacker.

“We spread the ball around a little bit more this year than we did last year,” said Shuffain. “So, his yards (and) touches have dipped. But his touchdowns (14) have gone up, and he has over 90 tackles on defense. He’s got 18 tackles for loss, a bunch of sacks. So, he’s a great all-around football player.”

Robbie Peterson (925 yards, 18 touchdowns) is the go-to receiver for the Crusaders, with Derek Lopes (765 yards, eight touchdowns) providing another tall target on the outside. On the other side of the ball, Peterson has five interceptions. Carver’s defense has limited its opponents to fewer than 15 points per game.

Meanwhile, West Boylston (12-0) punched its ticket to Gillette with a 36-0 victory against Cathedral. The Lions have been spurred all season by their prolific rushing offense.

“We have four or five backs who are all good,” said West Boylston head coach Mike Ross. “Jon Ruas, he’s a fast, explosive back. Jamie McNamara’s a fullback. He’s fast, but he has a lot of power behind him. Conor Muldoon’s also fast, explosive. Then (running back/tight end) Jackson Caramanica is just sound at everything he does.”

West Boylston’s opponents have been averaging fewer than 10 points a game. But Ross knows that it will be difficult for his defense to neutralize Carver.

“We’re gonna have to control the clock,” Ross said. “Then we’ll play our game. But they’re really good on offense.”

Shuffain paid his respects to his opposition as well, and added it would be very significant that his team wins the battles at the line of scrimmage.

“West Boylston probably runs their offense more perfectly than I’ve ever seen any other team run it before,” he said. “I mean, their offensive line is excellent. … For us to win this game, we’re gonna have to out-tough them.”

Both teams are expecting an entertaining game, but for the powerful offenses of Carver and West Boylston, it will be all about who puts more points on the board.

“We gotta score more points than them,” said Shuffain. “Both teams have good defenses. But the offenses of both teams are their high points, and I think the first team to have two to three stops wins the game.”

The LEGO Group on Monday announced the location of its new Boston offices.

The company announced in January that it was planning to move its head office in the Americas from Connecticut to Boston. But until now the exact location had remained a mystery.

The LEGO Group said 1001 Boylston Street has been chosen as the location of its Americas head office when the company relocates in 2026. The office will be located in a development being built over the Massachusetts Turnpike at the intersection of Boylston Street, Massachusetts Avenue and Newbury Street. According to the Boston Business Journal, the project is also slated to be the headquarters of CarGurus and will host a CitizenM hotel next door.

"We’re incredibly excited to be moving to a new location with such a rich history, ideally located in Back Bay, between Boston and Cambridge," Skip Kodak, president of the LEGO Group in the Americas, said in a statement. "1001 Boylston Street represents an investment in our future and a commitment to our employees. We believe that a modern, collaborative work environment will help creativity and innovation thrive, and we're excited to see what we can accomplish in this new space.”

Lego Is Bringing Its North American Headquarters to Boston – What's the Impact on Jobs?

The company said the selection of 1001 Boylston Street followed an "extensive search of Boston," noting that it was "strategically chosen to draw upon the region's diverse talent pool and foster strong relationships with other innovative companies in the area."

The new office spaces will be spread over five floors and more than 100,000 square feet, and will be accessible to employees walking and cycling to work, and a short distance from the MBTA's Green and Orange lines.

The LEGO Group's move from its current location in Enfield, Connecticut, to 1001 Boylston Street is scheduled to begin in mid-2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The company has been at its Connecticut home since 1975.

LEGO has around 740 people working full-time at its Connecticut location, all of whom are being offered jobs in Boston. Those who don't wish to relocate will get financial and job placement help, the company has said.

Officials from Boston lauded the move when it was announced, while Connecticut officials were understandably disappointed that the company will be leaving their state.

Boston beat out New York and a location in Connecticut. The city isn't giving the company any tax breaks, and LEGO has said it wasn't interested in any incentives.

BOSTON - Lego will start calling Boylston Street in Boston home in 2025.

Earlier this year, The Lego Group announced it would be moving its Enfield, Connecticut, headquarters to Boston. On Monday, the company got more specific saying it's new address will be 1001 Boylston Street.

The new building will be 100,000 square feet and five floors high. It's expected to have a gym, a parent room, parking and Bluebikes. Both Orange and Green line MBTA stops are within walking distance.

Lego plans to start moving in mid-2025.

"Actually, the simple reasons for Boston, for us to move to Boston from where we are right now in Connecticut are to be in a space where we have the opportunity to continue to grow our workforce and compete effectively for high-caliber talent," President of The Lego Group in the Americas Skip Kodak said. "We are going to be looking for community partners who value the benefits of bringing learning through play to kids of all ages, and we have a specific focus on serving communities where that access isn't always available."

Lego has been in Enfield since 1975. They have about 740 employees there and the company said about 400 Enfield employees will be making the move to Boston.

Boston, Massachusetts is a beloved destination for those looking to dive deep into American history. It's a spot where culture abounds thanks to fantastic museums and science centers like the Museum of Fine Art and the Museum of Science, and it's an academic powerhouse, with schools like Harvard, MIT, Emerson, Northeastern, Boston College, and Boston University calling the city home. And it's all waiting for you to come and explore.

"Boston is a vibrant city rich in history, world-class museums, and a diverse culinary scene," Saba Alhadi, the founder of PhotoWalks Tours of Boston, shared with Travel + Leisure. "Many attractions are within walking distance or easily accessible by the subway system."

William Bunce is the general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Boston, a luxury hotel in Downtown Boston.

There is another thing Boston is well known for — its four very distinct seasons.

"Whenever you decide to visit Boston, regardless of the season, there's always an energy and vitality here that captivates our visitors," William Bunce, the general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Boston, shared. "Our restaurants have fast become some of the most diverse in the country, with chefs showcasing cuisines from all over the world in neighborhoods that are easily walkable from downtown. That's why they call us America's walking city! Our waterfront is programmed with seasonal activities that will keep you enjoying the outdoors all year round."

Boston is one of America's most iconic cities. While it offers year-round excitement, the weather can vary greatly from season to season. Crowds and prices for hotels and excursions also vary throughout the year. Boston's three main tourism seasons are:

Here are the best times to visit Boston for fewer crowds, beautiful weather, and more.

Best Times to Visit Boston for Smaller Crowds

The best time to visit Boston for smaller crowds is during its shoulder and low seasons. The city's shoulder season runs from September through December, into the low season from January through February, and again in the early spring for the second shoulder season in March and April. Thankfully, the city’s major museums, attractions, hotels, and restaurants never shut down, meaning even in the lowest tourism season, you’ll still be able to get reservations for just about everything you want to do, just with fewer other tourists present.

Best Times to Visit Boston for Good Weather

Though the idea of “good” weather is subjective, we can confidently say you’ll experience comfortable weather throughout Boston’s high season in the summer, as well as its shoulder season in the fall. As WeatherSpark reported, Boston’s warm season lasts for just over three months, between early June and mid-September, when the average high temperature is 73 degrees Fahrenheit. (The warmest month is July when the average high temperature hits 82 degrees.) The fall is particularly inviting in Boston, when the temperatures fall to the high 60s, causing the leaves to change into a kaleidoscope of colors. The leaves begin to change in September and usually peak in mid-October. However, the colorful leaves can last well into November, when temperatures start to dip into the mid-50s.

Best Times to Visit Boston for Lower Prices

The best time to visit Boston to get great deals on hotels and potential discounts on excursions and other offerings is during its low season over the winter months. In fact, prices are known to drop dramatically for some of the city’s top hotels between December and March. As Meet Boston reported, the average daily rate for hotels in Boston was $186.38 in January 2023 and jumped to $334.28 in May. Beyond lower hotel rates, the city’s museums also offer free days or reduced admission times all year long, including the Boston Children’s Museum, which offers $1 admission every Sunday from 1:30- 4:30 p.m., and the Museum of Contemporary Art, which offers free admission every Thursday night from 5-9 p.m.

Best Times to Visit Boston for Sports

Beyond the excellent hotels, world-class dining, museums, and historical sites, Boston is perhaps one of the best sports cities in the world. It’s home to several major sports teams, including the Boston Red Sox, the Celtics, and the Bruins (and technically the Patriots, but we won’t count them here as their stadium is in Foxboro and not Boston proper). It’s also home to one of the most celebrated marathons on Earth, which brings in thousands of participants and spectators each year.

The best day to visit Boston for sporting events is Patriots' Day, which honors the first battle of the American Revolution, celebrated every year on the third Monday in April. This also happens to be Marathon Monday, which visitors are welcome to enjoy from the sidewalks stretching from Hopkinton to Boylston Street. Visitors can also catch a Red Sox game on Patriots' Day; as Boston Pastime explained, the Red Sox have played home games on Patriots' Day (almost) every year since 1960.

“Our sports teams, to the dismay of those who live outside of Boston, are often champions in their leagues, and history buffs love broadening their perspective through our revolutionary past,” Bunce said. “There’s always something happening in Boston that will undoubtedly enthrall and delight any visitor.”

If you miss Patriots' Day, that’s okay, because the Red Sox play more than 80 home games at Fenway Park throughout the entire summer. And that runs right into basketball and hockey season, which both begin in October, so you can always catch a Bruins or Celtics game to root on the home team no matter when you visit.

Worst Times to Visit Boston

Again, “worst” is subjective, however, there are times you may want to avoid visiting Boston. The winter months can be excessively cold and snowy in Boston. According to WeatherSpark, the cold season in Boston usually falls between early December and mid-March, with average daily highs in the high 30s to low 40s. January is the city’s coldest month when the average high temperature hits just 37 degrees and the average low is a bone-chilling 24 degrees.

Additionally, because Boston is a very college-centric town, you may want to avoid the city in early September during move-in time and early to mid-May during graduation season. During these times, the city is saturated with students and their families, so if you’re not among them, perhaps pick another time to visit.
