At Yella’s, cravings for those sinful items are satisfied in a retro atmosphere that celebrates family and good times.
The fast-casual restaurant named for Frank “Yella” Lorenzo, to honor his role as a caller at New Jersey square dances in the 1930s and 1940s, opened its 11th location in Warren on Jan. 30.
“My grandfather Yella didn’t just call the moves on the dance floor – he called the shots when it came to good eats,” said Joe Lorenzo, Yella’s founder and Frank Lorenzo’s grandson. “If you left his table hungry, it was your own fault. At Yella’s, we keep that tradition alive with food so good, you’ll be screaming for more.”
The establishment at 10 Independence Blvd. joins the original Hawthorne restaurant and locations at nine Northeast colleges, including Syracuse, Monmouth, Montclair State and Marist. It’s the first store in Central Jersey.
A nearly 60-year-old family-owned eatery, Yella’s serves wings, burgers, chicken sandwiches, milkshakes, and hot and cold sub sandwiches in retro digs with black-and-white family photos, bright colors and a walk-up window.
“We’re bringing a fresh taste to the Warren community,” said marketing director Danielle Lorenzo Filardi. “Our vibrant de?cor, good music and family-inspired photos set the stage for unforgettable meals. A Bittersweet Goodbye
Dear Warren Residents,
Three and a half years ago, I announced my bid to serve on the Warren Township Board of Education with the hope of giving back to a community that has given so much to my family. Today, as my term comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on this incredible journey with mixed emotions. While I am excited to dedicate more time to my other commitments—volunteering with the Lions Club, Elks, and HPBA, as well as spending time with my family—leaving the board is undeniably bittersweet.
Serving on the Board of Education has been an honor and a privilege. I will deeply miss collaborating with my fellow board members, who work tirelessly and selflessly for the betterment of Warren’s schools. A special thank you to Patricia Mullon Zohn, our Board President, whose countless hours of dedication and selflessness have set an inspiring example for all of us. Chris Heagele, thank you for always keeping me on my toes and reminding me about those certifications I needed to finish—you kept us all accountable! And a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Matt Mingle, our Superintendent, whose vision and leadership have placed Warren’s education system in truly great hands.
To all the young parents in our community: I urge you to get involved. It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize, but once you step into the arena, you’ll see the immense hard work and dedication that go into ensuring the success of our schools. Attend board meetings, ask questions, and—if you’re inspired—consider running for a seat on the board. There’s no better way to appreciate the effort that goes into Warren’s education system than by witnessing it firsthand.
As I bid farewell to this chapter, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you for your trust and support. Together, we’ve weathered challenges, celebrated successes, and worked toward a brighter future for our children. I will miss the camaraderie, the spirited debates, and the shared commitment to making Warren a better place.
