“Best in Care helped our family during a very difficult time. Mom had a broken neck and needed 24/7 care which my sister and I struggled to provide. We turned to Best in Care for a day time aid so that we could go home and sleep (Mom was up all night). My mom had always been resistant to anyone in the home, and I was worried she would be a problem. Much to my surprise and relief, she very quickly bonded with Ade. Ade was a great help to Mom and us. When my mom, shortly after, received a terminal cancer diagnosis, Ade continued to support my mom and the family with her compassionate presence and care. Greg and Robin worked closely with me to find a carer and then to be flexible with our needs and hours in my Mom's final days. I'm grateful to have found Best in Care at such a challenging and emotional time.”

“My family needed help with my Mom for a family wedding. She lives in assisted living nearby. The wedding was not close by, and an evening event. It was not a typical ask of Always Best Care. We needed someone to (in car service we provided) pick up my Mom, travel with her, engage her (even though they had never met), assist her as needed, attend the wedding AND travel back home. Greg and Robin asked all the questions to make sure Mom would enjoy the experience as a grandmother should at her grandaughter's wedding. Needless to say, the evening was perfect. Although she can't remember most of the event, we have the memories and pictures of a wonderful night, thanks to Always Best Care. We have two more weddings coming up and will certainly be calling Robin and Greg again.”

“Greg and Robin LaVersa truly work hard to make sure they provide exceptional service! Their aides have worked well with my mother, who has had difficulty in the past with aides from other companies. When a scheduling conflict arose, Robin herself went to my mother's house and helped out. Because they care not only for their clients but for their aides as well, the care is given in the best way possible. ABC Basking Ridge has been providing overnight care for my mother, but when a sudden loss of her daytime care (from another company) occurred, Greg and Robin worked tirelessly to help me find immediate coverage and then continuing day care. I don't know what I would have done without their assistance. It is a pleasure to deal with Greg on the phone (he is my contact person). He is always available, concerned and honest. I cannot recommend this company highly enough.”

“Always Best Care provided aides who would come to my mother-in-law's apartment in an independent living setting and help her with meals, organization and shopping, 3-5 times per week for 4 hours per day. Robin and Greg, who run the agency, made sure staff arrived on time and frequently checked in to provide us with information about my mother-in-law or seeking feedback about their staffing. The caregivers were great! They provided the nutritional, emotional and social support that my mother-in-law desperately needed. Always Best Care was always very responsive to requests, and Greg and Robin have become like extended family to us. TESTIMONIALS

“A year ago it became clear that my 90 year-old father and 87 year-old mother could no longer remain in their home of 53 years without assistance. They lived in an area where caregivers are very hard to find. After much searching, I found Always Best Care Basking Ridge. While Mom and Dad did not like the idea of having anyone come into their home to care for them, Greg LaVersa was patient and understanding and helped me convince them that they would be well cared for. The caregiver that Always Best Care provided cared for Mom and Dad for a year, always caring and showing compassion. But most of all, she treated Mom and Dad with dignity. The amount of care increased with time, my brother moved in to assist with the care and eventually both of my parents went on home hospice. But throughout it all, Always Best Care Basking Ridge was there caring for Mom and Dad and granting them their wish to die at home. I promised Mom and Dad that they would remain at home until the end and that promise was fulfilled thanks to Greg, Robin and their wonderful caregiver. I would not hesitate a moment to recommend them to anyone in the Somerset Hills area of New Jersey who is looking for home care.”

“I would like to recommend the services of Always Best Care from personal experience through the tremendous care that our Father received during the last few months of his life. Greg and his team understood my Father's needs at a time when the caregivers we employed before Always Best Care were struggling to meet our expectations. Greg and my family had numerous conversations and follow up concerning schedules, specific caregiver personalities comparable with our Father, assistance during rehabilitation, and homebound assistance with our families primary caregiver. We were grateful for the patience the caregivers showed for our Father. Greg's ability to connect with our father was extraordinary. Frequent visits and personal check ins to his home made our care for him that much easier in what can be an overwhelming experience. Frequent long distance conversations kept me in touch with his care, progress of his health, and his personal needs. Greg is a unique businessman in that his connection with his clients is personal. Greg shared with us the progress of a close personal relative that was going through the same medical challenges as our Father. This foresite gave us a perspective into our eventual preparations and transitional stages that helped us cope a bit better till the end of Dad's life. Greg's upbeat personality was encouraging to my Father. He had many conversations about Baseball.my Dad's favorite pastime. Greg and his team attended our Dad's funeral which we thought was a kind gesture to our family. There were challenges along the way since this was a unique situation for all of us. In-Home Care Pittstown, NJ

How does In-home Senior Care in Pittstown, NJ work?

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it's especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age. When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one ages, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a unfamiliar assisted living community, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

Comfort
Comfort

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them? A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old. With the help of elderly care in Pittstown, NJ, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Healthy Living
Healthy Living

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors. Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

Independence
Independence

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like an assisted living community. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

Cost and Convenience
Cost and Convenience

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, can be less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care in Pittstown, NJ gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Empowers Seniors

Affordable Care Plans

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

Veteran's Benefits
Veteran's Benefits

Aid and Attendance benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.

Private Insurance

Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.

Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

During your Care Plan consultation with Always Best Care, your Care Coordinator will speak with you about in-home care costs and what options there may be to help meet your budget needs.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Pittstown,NJ understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Pittstown FC is entering its 9th year of competition this spring and plans to expand its rosters for the 2016 season that kicks off on April 21.

Pittstown FC, or The Herd, as they go by, is a no excuses league. "We don't care about skill, athleticism, experience playing soccer or gender. We simply welcome adults with a passion for the game of soccer interested in getting out on the field for good fun, exercise and modestly competitive play," said Commissioner Chris Szymanski of Hampton. "The league is built on a spirit of camaraderie and fair play. We are not a travel league, and all of our teams play 8v8 small-sided games on Thursday nights, at one location and at one time. The minimum age for men is 33 and for women 30."

Co-Founder Chip Kalfaian of Alexandria Township, recalls, "Eight years ago Jens Duerr and I started an adult team to play in the Tri-County Soccer League and over the first two seasons we had so many interested players that we quickly realized there was an opportunity to do something much bigger here in Hunterdon County." And Pittstown FC was born. The club currently comprises 100 players from throughout Hunterdon and adjacent counties.

"There are so many people that played soccer growing up or have spent countless hours on the sidelines watching their kids, it's no surprise that we have enjoyed such a high level of interest and commitment from adults wanting to get out on the pitch," said co-founder Jens Duerr adding, "We know we have to keep it real for adult players. So we've eliminated slide tackling from the game and build our rosters to account for business travelers, spring concerts and graduations, and - unfortunately - some injuries."

FLEMINGTON, NJ - “So this is Pittstown” reads the sign on the barn near the crossroads of Routes 513 and 579, across from the Pittstown Inn. It doesn’t reveal that these roads saw the tramp of Colonial armies and British prisoners during the Revolutionary War. The quiet hamlet of Pittstown was an important place in the 18th and 19th centuries.

On Monday July 22, well-known Hunterdon County Historian Stephanie Stevens will tell the story of Pittstown as recounted in her eighth book, “All Roads Lead to Pittstown.” The talk will tell the history of the colonial roads that passed thru Pittstown - and the armies that marched on them during the Revolution. In her book she concentrates on the lives of three of Pittstown’s most important residents:

In addition, the book covers Pittstown’s place in the state's important peach industry, which reached its peak in the late 19th century until it was decimated by a blight.

High Brass Farm rehabilitating horses for 12 years

PITTSTOWN, N.J. -- It has been 12 years since hunter/jumper trainer Liz Perry-Merbler and her husband, Mike Merbler took the plunge into the world of equine rehabilitation.

The idea was to help injured horses get from stall rest back to competing. The couple set up a special rehabilitation barn, separate from the boarding and training barn. Now, the 22-stall, air-conditioned and heated rehab barn is consistently full, Perry-Merbler said.

An essential tool at the rehab is still the underwater treadmill, which allows horses to exercise without having to bear full weight on their limbs. The water provides resistance which helps build muscle. Therapeutic sessions can be individually customized through variable treadmill speeds, water heights and water temperatures. Low water causes the horse to pick its feet up higher. High water creates resistance.

High Brass was the first in the area to install the underwater treadmill. The treadmill was well received by the equestrian community. In July, the 20,000-session milestone was reached. No other team has handled that many sessions, Perry-Merbler said.

The rehab has gotten referrals from all over the country. Clients have included Olympic level horses. Perry-Merbler said that shows that people competing at the highest level of equestrian sport trust the rehab service at High Brass.

Many of the show horses at the farm also use the AquaPacer on a regular basis as a conditioning and maintenance tool.

Although the treadmill is the centerpiece of its rehabilitation facility, the farm can do more than just treat injuries. Once the horses are healed, horses can be worked under saddle to can get them back in shape and back to business, whatever their career.

Perry-Merbler said many horses come from top show trainers, which are often on the road showing. They don't have the time to get the horses back in shape following an injury. Instead they turn to High Brass to get the horses healed and back to being show ready.

High Brass is also willing to work with any veterinarian the owner chooses. There are also many local practitioners offering services such as acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, ultrasound and shockwave therapies who can come to the farm if an owner chooses. The farm has other tools such as ultrasound, laser and magnetic therapies to aid in healing.

To find out more about the underwater treadmill, or to schedule a visit to the High Brass Farm Rehab Barn or training facility, contact Liz Perry-Merbler or Mike Merbler at 908-996-1002 or 908-295-2096 or see http://highbrassfarm.com.

A young Hunterdon County woman who's been battling brain cancer this past year is being honored on Sunday with a Courage Award by Voices Against Brain Cancer.

Kelsey Flanigan of Pittstown, 24, was finishing up a post-college graduation trip in Thailand in January 2014 when she had a bad seizure. She was sent back to New Jersey immediately, and doctors found that she had a brain tumor.

Flanigan's diagnosis: Grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma.

Since her diagnosis, Flanigan has undergone two craniotomies, radiation and chemotherapy, but she still lives an active life, with the motto, "I can, I will" in the back of her mind.

In light of her courageous battle this past year, Flanigan is being honored by Voices Against Brain Cancer for her bravery and determination at such a young age, to help others who are battling this devastating disease, by encouraging them to never give up hope.

On Sunday, June 7, Flanigan will receive a a Courage Award at the Join the Voices! New Jersey Run/Walk at Brookdale Park in Montclair.

Voices Against Brain Cancer is a national nonprofit group committed to finding a cure for brain cancer and brain tumors. Sunday's event is the group's inaugural New Jersey run, and will feature a 5K run, 3K scenic walk, family activities and live entertainment. Funds raised will go toward the advancement of brain cancer research, and all donations will be earmarked for New Jersey institutions, including the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and the JFK Brain Tumor Center.

During Sunday's event, other patients, caregivers, doctors and healthcare providers will be honored for their roles in the fight against brain cancer. The recipient of this year's Gary Lichtenstein Humanitarian Award is Joseph Landolfi, D.O., JFK Brain Tumor Center, and the recipient of the Medical Advisory Award is Simon Hanft, MD, Neurosurgeon, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Also at Sunday's event, the foundation will have its Voices Against Brain Cancer Family Initiative Program available. It includes workshops so people can communicate with others going through similar situations; a Caregiver Meet Up that brings together caregivers in online and in-person forums; and the After the Storm group, for those who have lost a spouse or partner.

Voices Against Brain Cancer was founded in loving memory of Gary Lichtenstein, who lost his battle with brain cancer on Oct. 1, 2003. When asked what inspired him to organize VABC's national run/walks, Mario Lichtenstein noted, "I couldn't save the life of my son, but perhaps I can save the life of others."

Participants of "Join the Voices! New Jersey Run/Walk" are encouraged to raise funds for Voices Against Brain Cancer. To make a donation, volunteer or participate, visit: www.jointhevoicesnewjersey.org. Check-in and registration begins at 8 a.m., with start times beginning at 9 a.m.
