Home Care In Boston, MA

Home Care Boston, MA

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Old State House gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Boston, MA is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

The Always Best Care Difference

Since 1996, Always Best Care has provided non-medical in-home care for seniors to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle as they get older. We are proud to have helped more than 25,000 seniors maintain higher levels of dignity and respect. We focus on providing seniors with the highest level of in-home care available so that they may live happily and independently.

Unlike some senior care companies, we genuinely want to be included in our clients' lives. We believe that personalized care is always the better option over a "one size fits all" approach. To make sure our senior clients receive the best care possible, we pair them with compassionate caregivers who understand their unique needs. That way, they may provide care accordingly without compromising their wellbeing.

The Always Best Care difference lies in life's little moments - where compassionate care and trustworthy experience come together to help seniors live a fruitful, healthy life. Whether you are an aging adult that can't quite keep up with life's daily tasks or the child of a senior who needs regular in-home services, Always Best Care is here to help.

“Finding a place that will take care of your family members can be overwhelming, so I was relieved to find Always. They are flexible and personable and focus on what’s most important when caring for your loved one. Beth and Kathy were always there when I needed something. Rishi, my father’s main caregiver, knew exactly how to handle the challenges of caring for a man who was reluctant about having care in the home. I am so thankful for their support!”

“Dave and his staff at Always Best Care truly helped us when my mom was returning home with her hip replacement. Dave came to my mom's home to assess it and gave us recommendations on how to make her home safer. He made me feel so much better about having a caregiver staying with my mom. We also had a discussion on what type of caregiver my mom needed. My mom wanted to meet her caregiver ahead of time and ABC made it happen. It was a great experience, especially knowing my mom was never alone and she had companionship. Thank you for all your help!!”

“We were referred to Always Best Care by the social workers at MT Auburn Hospital. We were worried because we had heard of the senior caregiver shortage. There are no words for how much peace of mind the two amazing caregivers provide our family in caring for our elderly father. They are both completely warm, dependable, professional, kind and caring. I have heard from friends that it doesn't always go like that, so we are most grateful! In six months, both of my dad's caregivers have come to know my father as a person and genuinely care for his wellbeing. The support they provide is immeasurable.”

“It has been about 6 months since Toni and Angel became caregivers for our father Matthew D. We wanted to let you know how incredible they both have been and how important they are to our family. Both Toni and Angel are so dependable, capable, professional and caring. We have heard from friends that it doesn't always go like that, so we know we lucked out not with one but both women. Additionally, we have heard the numerous news reports of the healthcare shortage and are so grateful that your agency could place caregivers with us so quickly when we first contacted you last summer. There are no words for the peace of mind these two amazing women provide for us, and we give daily thanks you matched them with our dad. Thank you and Happy Holidays to you.”

“David was recommended to me by two different social workers as someone to help us find the right assisted living facility for my mom. He walked me and my sister and partner through the process of narrowing down the choices and selecting the best place. He set up some tours for us and accompanied us on others, putting us in contact with the Executive Directors rather than just the marketers. His advice was unfailingly on target. The placed I wanted to see that he didn't recommend were absolutely wrong for my mom, and the one he suggested as the best fit absolutely was the right one. She ended up there for a respite stay and loves it, but has decided she wants to give in-home care a try before committing to the assisted living option. Luckily, David also has an in-home care business that can help us out with that, too! I feel so lucky to have found a trustworthy person to help me navigate the dizzying options for senior care for my mom.”

“Always Best Care is one of the best companies I have ever worked for! Truly, it's been such a breath of fresh air. The way that David, my co-workers, and everyone involved is so dedicated to the well-being of our clients and caregivers is like nothing I have seen. But also the way we are cared for as employees...everyone genuinely cares and wants to see the best for their co-workers, and for our clients as well! David sets an amazing example for the team by going above and beyond for our clients and caregivers, making it only natural to follow in his footsteps and do our very best as well. We've got a rock solid team of people who are well equipped in each area they serve our clients in, and it's really cool to see everyone working with such passion and compassion. This business is all about relationships and cultivating them well, and I can truly say I'm proud to be part of a team that does this so well. It's a healthy and well-run company with great communication and flexibility. It's hands down one of the best places I have every worked! I heard a phrase once that "people may not remember what you've done for them, but they will always remember how you made them feel." Always Best Care does both--acts of kind service, and leaving a lasting impression on everyone we get to interact with. I would recommend Always Best Care a thousand times over!!”

“Despite residing in a well-respected retirement community my parents still needed a little assistance in making it a home. The professionals from Always Best Care were like an All-Star team of senior care help, they stepped in and assessed everything from my parents' major concerns down to the subtle little differences that we probably would never have noticed, making what had been a stressful situation immediately more manageable. My family sleeps easier knowing that my parents have settled in, and without the assistance of Always Best Care that was simply not the case. “I have worked for Always Best Care Senior Services for 5 years, mostly as an in-home health care provider for elderly and disabled clients. As an employee of ABC, I have also cared for clients on a one- on- one basis who are in Assisted Living Facilities and Skilled Nursing Facilities. I enjoy my work and my clients. The culture of ABC is that every client is treated as an individual with personal needs and feelings rather than as a case number or diagnosis. ABC’s approach to clients is mirrored in how they treat caregivers. Consideration of the caregiver’s persona is matched with those of the client. The needs of the client are outlined to ensure the caregiver services provided are a comfortable match. I always feel respected, appreciated, and valued in my role and I equally feel the same consideration is provided to my clients. It is a professional, diverse and overall warm working environment. There is an open-door policy for both client and caregiver where open and constant dialogue and feedback is welcome and responded to in real-time. I would recommend working at Always Best Care to anyone in this profession or anyone considering this profession. Annette Vincent”

I recall that when I first called tou in late August after my mother fell, you were able to visit Boylston Place that same day to make an assessment so that care could being the folliwing day/ And on several other occasions you were very resourceful in responding to last-minute cancellations and changes in care protocols. I believe that under the care of this wonderful team, and their coordination with the Boylston Place and hospice teams, my mother was able to spend her final months comfortably and peacefully, accepting with grace her imminent passing.”

“I can't say enough positive things about Always Best Care, the owner David, the RN Beth and the wonderful home health aides who have been helping my grandparents over the last number of weeks. My grandmother came home from rehab after surviving COVID and was still very weak and on oxygen. David was phenomenally responsive to my initial email (at 9:00 at night!) and arranged to come to the house on a weekend to meet my parents and get them started. The nurse, Beth, accompanied both home health aides on their first day to make sure they were on-boarded with exactly what we needed. She listened to us, she remembered every thing we told her, and she volunteered to pick up meds for us at the pharmacy. The aides (Susan and Josephine) have been lovely - attentive, thoughtful, gentle, observant, and have helped with everything from bathing to laundry to lunches and dishes to sorting endless piles of paper for filing. I'm so grateful to all of them for easing my mom's transition home and taking the burden off my grandfather (who's 86). We may not need them much longer, but they have been outstanding.”

“I may be over 70 years old, but I still like to go out and about and I consider myself independent. Several years before I retired, I made a conscious decision to stop driving my car and to rely on public transportation, whether by the subway and bus system or by taking cabs. I didn’t plan on changing my life. And then, COVID-19 made its lethal appearance around the world. After a couple months of quarantine everywhere, I realized I no longer felt comfortable using public transportation. “When was the last time ‘they’ wiped down the handholds on this bus?” And “Who sat in this cab before me?” I asked myself. I continued to worry. I even read through my stash of professional business cards, hoping for inspiration. I found a card for David Robinson who, in the past, had provided me with specialized transportation. I gave him a call and he introduced me to his company, Always Best Care. With the assistance of Always Best Care associates, I’ve been able to keep appointments and selectively shop. I have maintained a large degree of independence in this viral climate. All the Best Care companions I’ve met are cheerful, prompt, and pleasant. They are, at the same time, both professional and friendly. I would recommend Always Best Care to anyone needing care, companionship, or accompanied transportation in the greater Boston area.”

She was willing and did a wonderful job. Mom likes her very much. David you were correct in saying, when we first met, you try to connect the right person with your clients.”

“Dear Friend, I'm sharing this reference in hopes that it provides comfort to other families who seek caring, attentive, loving and flexible care for their aging loved ones. My mother/family has been one of your clients for a number of years and I know ABC's values and capabilities extremely well. For families who are navigating the journey of elder care, who are facing uncertainty and who are looking for a trusted, reliable team who will care for clients like family (if not better), there is no better team than the wonderful folks at ABC. We've been working with David, Kathy and the team for several years and they have exceeded our hopes. Sure, they are on time, professional, safe and courteous. Even more, they are thoughtful, kind and caring. True problem solvers, they provide comfort knowing that my mom is in terrific hands. Even more, they anticipate challenges and solve problems before they are needed. I'm sharing this info because I know how daunting and, indeed, paralyzing, searching for an agency can be. From the first call, ABC did it right. They listened rather than sold. They personalized it, so we found the right care for my mother. They did nothing less than treat my mom the way they would want their own mother's to be treated. I've learned a lot during the process and one of the most important things I learned is: trust ABC. “I can't say enough positive things about Always Best Care, the owner David, the RN Beth and the wonderful home health aides who have been helping my parents over the last number of weeks. My mom came home from rehab after surviving COVID and was still very weak and on oxygen. I'm so grateful to all of them for easing my mom's transition home and taking the burden off my dad (who's 86). We may not need them much longer, but they were lifesavers.”

From her skilled and patient direct care… to her very perceptive and objective take on many aspects of my mom’s situation, including our family’s complex dynamics… to spot-on referrals for additional support and services… I couldn’t have come through without her. Melanie’s warm, outgoing style informed all her efforts and immediately put everyone at ease, most importantly my mother. She became a strong advocate and backbone for both me and Mom, and a skilled negotiator when it came to dealing with conflicting family influences. Her direct, no-nonsense approach was perfectly balanced by sensitivity and diplomacy. What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Boston, MA?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Mastro's Ocean Club or visit The Paul Revere House, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Boston, MA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Boston, MA

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your MA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
 Senior Care Boston, MA

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Boston, MA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Boston, MA

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Boston, MA

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Susan S Bailis Assisted Living
  • Standish Village Assisted Living
  • Hale House
  • Compass on the Bay Memory Care Assisted Living
  • Rogerson House Memory Care Assisted Living & Day Program
  • Springhouse Senior Living

Gov. Healey pushes for additional housing to keep people living and working in Mass.

Gov. Maura Healey, appearing on WBUR's Radio Boston Tuesday, said her administration sees securing more housing in Massachusetts as its top priority."There is no issue that I am moving with greater urgency and intention than this issue of housing," said Healey. "And hopefully we can work with the Legislature, get something done, and get something done soon. We need shovels in the ground."Healey lamented ...

Gov. Maura Healey, appearing on WBUR's Radio Boston Tuesday, said her administration sees securing more housing in Massachusetts as its top priority.

"There is no issue that I am moving with greater urgency and intention than this issue of housing," said Healey. "And hopefully we can work with the Legislature, get something done, and get something done soon. We need shovels in the ground."

Healey lamented findings from a much-discussed study from the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce that showed 25% of Bostonians between the ages of 20 and 30 are considering leaving Boston within the next five years, in large part due to high housing costs.

The affordability problem spans generations, the governor said, with long-term residents struggling to pay rent or buy homes in the state. Compounding the issue, Healey added, is that out-of-state employers appear less inclined to move to Massachusetts if their workforce cannot afford to live here.

The governor noted her administration has proposed a $4.1 billion bond bill aimed at spurring housing development.

State action on housing development and zoning, which is usually a local policy matter, has been a source of contention between Healey's administration and various municipalities. The administration must roll out and enforce the MBTA Communities Act, a law that passed with broad support under Healey's predecessor, former Gov. Charlie Baker. It requires municipalities served by the transit system to rezone to allow for more multi-family units.

While most communities complied with the law, some towns pushed back. Milton voters rejected a town zoning proposal, and as a result, the state rescinded grant funding that would have supported environmental projects in the town. Milton now also faces a lawsuit by state Attorney General Andrea Campbell.

The governor emphasized her support for the MBTA Communities Act, but said the law is part of a set of policies, including her bond bill, needed to support housing development.

"The fact is, not any single city or town can solve the housing challenge, housing crisis in this state," Healey said. "It's going to require collective action."

"We're not looking to take away local control at all," Healey added. "But we are looking for everybody to realize that if we don't meet this moment and work together ... we're going to see people leave the state, and we're going to suffer for that."

The creation of more housing appeared top of mind for the governor. When asked about other problems, like how to fill existing vacancies in public housing units, Healey cited development once again as part of the solution.

Earlier this month, WBUR reported that more than 2,000 public housing units sat vacant despite a "90-day push" by the state to fill them. Healey largely blamed the vacancies on too many units being "uninhabitable," adding her administration had "inherited" the issue.

She said the state's lack of housing was the root of the problem, and that many people on public housing waitlists had housing vouchers they could not use because of high rent.

"The math doesn't work for people because the rents so exceed what's available in terms of the voucher limit. This is the fundamental problem here," Healey said. "Rents are way too high; housing prices are way too high."

"We need more units. We need more housing. We need to drive down costs," she added.

In the wide-ranging conversation, Healey also touched on the overburdened state family shelter system She said she supports the state Legislature's proposal to limit how long families can stay in the shelter system. She blamed U.S. Congress for failing to act quickly to "fix a broken immigration system" and slow an influx of new migrants into the country.

Healey also spoke about her decision to not disclose when and where she goes when she departs Massachusetts.

The governor left the state for four days in February, but her team did not publicly announce where she went, according to reporting from the Boston Globe. Unlike previous administrations, Healey's team said last fall it would stop giving advance information about the governor's personal travel plans but would include details on calendars released later.

Game Recap

BOSTON (AP) Payton Prichard scored a career-high 31 points and the Boston Celtics rolled to a 131-98 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night.

Pritchard added 11 assists for his second double-double this season and helped the Celtics avoid losing three consecutive games in a season for the first time since 2010-11.

Luke Kornet finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Sam Hauser and Neemias Queta both also had 16 points for Boston, which led by as many as 33 and had only six turnovers.

Pritchard will be counted on coming off the bench in the playoffs and coach Joe Mazzulla said his performance was indicative of how much he has grown and bought into his role this season.

“Just being a complete player from the standpoint of every game is going to be different," Mazzulla said. “He affects the game in many different ways. Obviously, having a consistent role for an entire season is really beneficial.”

The Celtics’ top six rotation players – Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford – all sat out with nagging ailments in what was essentially a rest night for them. Boston has already locked up the top seed in the Eastern Conference and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

They likely will get another rest day Sunday when Boston concludes its regular season schedule against Washington.

That also will probably mean another start Pritchard, who's looking to appear in all 82 regular-season games for the first time in his four-year career.

“It's definitely a big accomplishment for me,” Pritchard said. “To play 82 games is tough, but through the summer, the work that I put in to get my body ready for that (helped). But also just the journey of me, last year, my second year, of times when I didn't play at all, how frustrating that is and how much that hurt at times. But that just fueled me to keep working.”

Tre Mann led the Hornets with 19 points and eight assists. Nick Smith Jr. added 15 points.

The absences gave the Celtics the opportunity to give some playing time to rookie Jordan Walsh and call up two-way players Queta, JD Davison and Drew Peterson from the G League to fill in, a night after they all played with Maine at Oklahoma City in Game 2 the G League Finals. Maine hosts Oklahoma City Blue in Portland on Sunday to crown the G League champion.

The Hornets have been eliminated from playoff contention since March 23 and played without former Celtic Grant Williams, who was listed out with a sprained right ankle, and Nick Richards (right plantar fascia).

Welcome to the NHL Buzz. Each day during the regular season, NHL.com has you covered with all the latest news.

Boston Bruins

Pat Maroon is expected to make his Bruins debut against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday (8 p.m. ET; ABC, ESPN+).

The forward was a full participant in practice Friday, skating at right wing on the fourth line with Jesper Boqvist and Jakub Lauko and said he would be in the lineup.

"Obviously we're playing a Pittsburgh team that's trying to get in the playoffs," Maroon said. "So it's a good start for me. Gets me ready for the playoffs here."

Maroon spent the past 10 weeks recovering from back surgery in early February. The Bruins acquired him from the Minnesota Wild on March 8. He had 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) and 60 penalty minutes in 49 games with the Wild this season.

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said Maroon is progressing well.

"We got to see how he responds tomorrow," Montgomery said. "That was a 40-minute practice. He's a part of every drill for the first time on a regular rotation, so we'll see how he is tomorrow morning." -- Joe Pohoryles

Colorado Avalanche

Mikko Rantanen could return to the lineup against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday (4 p.m. ET; ALT, TSN3).

The forward has missed the past two games because of a concussion.

He was a full participant in practice Friday and skated on a line with Casey Mittelstadt and Valeri Nichushkin.

"Mikko's probable for tomorrow," coach Jared Bednar said. "We'll see in the morning."

Rantanen has been out since leaving a 6-2 loss at the Edmonton Oilers on April 5 during the second period following a hit from Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm.

Rantanen is eighth in the NHL with 102 points (40 goals, 62 assists) in 77 games. Prior to the injury, he had played in 161 consecutive games.

Forward Miles Wood likely will miss a third consecutive game because of a lower-body injury.

"'Woody' is probably doubtful for tomorrow," Bednar said. -- Ryan Boulding

Minnesota Wild

Liam Ohgren is expected to make his NHL debut when the Wild play at the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday (10 p.m. ET; SCRIPPS, BSNX, TVAS).

The 20-year-old forward was recalled from Iowa of the American Hockey League on Wednesday. He was held without a point in three AHL games after arriving from Farjestad in the Swedish Elite League, where he had 19 points (12 goals, seven assists) in 26 games this season.

Selected by the Wild in the first round (No. 19) of the 2022 NHL Draft, Ohgren signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Minnesota on July 16, 2022.

The Wild (37-32-9) were eliminated from playoff contention with a 5-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Timothy Liljegren could return for the Maple Leafs when they play Detroit Red Wings on Saturday (7 p.m. ET; CBC, SNO, SNW, SNP, BSDET).

The defenseman, who has missed the past eight games because of an upper-body injury sustained March 26 during a 6-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils, practiced Friday for the first time since the injury and skated on a pair with Morgan Rielly.

"Looked good to me. I haven't got the reports on him but he looked good," Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said. "He went into the practice with the intention of pushing himself with an eye towards tomorrow so that's the goal and we will see where he is at tomorrow."

Liljegren has 23 points (three goals, 20 assists) and has averaged 19:40 of ice time in 52 games.

Forward Max Domi was absent from practice Friday and is day to day because of an undisclosed injury. He had two assists and three shots on goal in 11:34 of ice time in a 6-5 loss to the Devils on Thursday.

"Just kept him off the ice so we will see how he is tomorrow," Keefe said. "There's a chance [he could play against the Red Wings]." -- Dave McCarthy

Chicago Blackhawks

Connor Murphy is expected to play for the first time in nearly three months when the Blackhawks play the Nashville Predators on Friday (8:30 p.m. ET; NBCSCH+, BSSO).

"It's been too long so it's nice," said the defenseman, who sustained a groin injury during Chicago's 3-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Jan. 13 and has missed 35 games. "The last test is just getting in a game and see how it lasts the whole game."

Murphy practiced with the team last Friday for the first time since sustaining his injury.

"That extra time that he took to rehab properly, we weren't in a [Stanley Cup] Playoff run where he may be forced into playing a little bit early and sometimes that always exposes the chance for more injury," Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said. "I think he feels really good right now and we're happy to have his leadership back."

Murphy, who has eight points (two goals, six assists) in 43 games, likely will play on a defense pair with Ethan Del Mastro. Del Mastro was recalled from Rockford of the American Hockey League on Thursday and is expected to make his NHL debut against the Predators. -- Tracey Myers

Washington Capitals

Rasmus Sandin is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season for the Capitals because of an upper-body injury.

The defenseman did not play the past two games and has not skated since being injured on a hit from Ottawa Senators forward Parker Kelly at the end of the first period of a 3-2 overtime loss Sunday.

"Nothing new," Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said after practice Friday. "Didn't skate today, so I don't think he'll play before the end of the regular season."

Sandin has 23 points (three goals, 20 assists) and is second on Washington in average ice time per game this season (21:07) in 68 games.

The Capitals (37-31-11) trail the Pittsburgh Penguins by one point for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference and have three games remaining, beginning with hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday (5:30 p.m. ET; MNMT, BSSUN). -- Tom Gulitti

The Denver Pioneers’ offensive prowess resulted in memorable moments throughout the season and earned them a chance to battle BC for the championship.

The University of Denver hockey team will play for a record 10th national title on Saturday after defeating Boston University 2-1 in overtime Thursday night.

Forward Tristan Broz scored his second overtime goal in the NCAA Tournament to get the win for the Pioneers—his fourth game-winner of the season. Forward Tristan Lemyre scored DU’s only goal during regulation to tie the game 1-1 in the second period, marking his second of the season and the sixth of his career.

Denver will face Boston College in the national championship at 4 p.m. MT on Saturday at the Xcel Center in St. Paul, Minn. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2. This is DU’s first return to the NCAA championship game since 2022 when they last won the title.

DU defeated Boston College in the regular season 4-3 when the team traveled to Chestnut Hill back in October.

DU and the University of Michigan each have nine national titles in their respective program histories. DU has the chance to take the outright lead for the most in college hockey history this weekend after Michigan lost to Boston College in its semifinal game 4-0.

The DU newsroom looked back on a few memorable moments from the season thus far.

• For the first time in program history, DU has reached at least 30 wins in three straight seasons. Denver is one of two teams in college hockey to reach the 30-win threshold this year, the other being Boston College.

• Currently without a band, the Edina Hornets High School Pep Band stepped in and played on DU’s behalf on Thursday. The group will also play on Saturday.

• DU is currently on an eight-game win streak, dating back to the team’s 4-3 victory against Colorado College on March 9.

• The senior class is among the winningest group in school history with 102 victories in 148 career games.

• Sophomore Kent Anderson received the NCAA’s Elite 90 award for scholastic achievement, given to the student-athlete at each respective NCAA championship site with the highest cumulative grade-point average. Anderson is a finance major in DU’s Daniels College of Business and carries a cumulative 3.975 GPA. His award marks the seventh Denver student-athlete and the third member of the hockey program to earn the award.

• The team’s longest NCAA Tournament game in program history came against UMass on March 28 when they won 2-1 in double overtime.

• Head Coach David Carle was named a finalist for National Coach of the Year and forward Jack Devine was a Hobey Baker Award top-10 finalist.

• Defensemen Zeev Buium and Sean Behrens received regular season awards from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. Buium was named both Rookie of the Year and Offensive Defenseman of the Year and Behrens was named Defensive Defenseman of the Year.

• Carle and Buium won gold with the U.S. National Junior Team back in January. This was Carle’s first-time coaching Team USA at any level, the first Denver coach to lead the U.S. World Junior team since Marshall Johnston in 1977. Denver Director of Hockey Operations Travis Culhane and DU Equipment Manager Nick Meldrum were also on the staff.

• Goalie Matt Davis has started in 25 straight games for the Pioneers, tying the previous record set by Magnus Chrona (25) during the 2021-22 season. His NCAA tournament save percentage is .972.

• Averaging 4.89 goals per game, DU had the top offense in the country during the regular season. Boston College was second at 4.38 goals per game.

• DU hockey has relied on everyone to create offense. Eleven players have scored 10 or more goals this season and nine have tallied 30 or more points.

• Success has often come in the second period for the Pioneers, as they’ve outscored opponents 80-39.

Seven athletes have played in every game this season: forward Connor Caponi, Behrens, Devine, forwards Rieger Lorenz, Aidan Thompson and Jared Wright and defenseman Boston Buckberger.

Buium leads the team with 38 assists and is second in scoring with 49 points. He’s also scored the most goals on the season as a defenseman (11).

• Forward Miko Matikka, with 20 goals on the season, has the second most goals on the team this season and is fourth among all freshmen in the NCAA.
