KINGSVILLE, Md. —
A historic home was leveled Wednesday evening after huge flames from a massive fire quickly spread throughout the house in Kingsville, Baltimore County fire officials said.
Family members, young and old, gathered around what was once their home, now turned into a pile of burned debris.
"We were just sitting in the living room when we saw fire coming out of the front window," relative Sarah Glock said.
That's when Glock, a neighbor, rushed across the street to the house before there was nothing she, or any other neighbor, could do.
"The ones who are here have all grown up in that house and brought their children there. It's just so many memories, and that's why they kept it in the family," Glock said.
The home on Franklinville Road was a staple in the community. It was built back in the 1850s and kept in the family for generations.
"They done so much work on it. It was, like, the last part," Glock said.
Officials said the fire was difficult to fight. Fire officials at the scene told 11 News that the fire began in the kitchen.
"This area poses challenges for firefighters because it's a nonhydrant area, so you have to request additional engines to get water," said Nicholas Tyson, of the Baltimore County Fire Department.
Firefighters remained at the scene for hours, through the evening. And while the house is gone, its memories, loved ones said, will hopefully last forever.
While no one was hurt in the fire, officials said a pet dog did not make it out.
Authorities said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
