MADISON, Conn. (WTNH) — A 16-year-old in Madison has become a local hero after jumping into action to save his own father’s life during a medical emergency.
Photos in the White family home nearly became all the family would have left of their father, John, when he had a heart attack at home last week. John collapsed and was unconscious, with only his son, Noah, at home.
“I called 911 and then I started doing CPR until they came,” said Noah.
His next thought was to call his mother, Trisha, as soon as he could.
“My thought, the first thing, was ‘Is he dead?’” Trisha White said. “My thought went to him because he was home alone.”
Trisha would soon be told by medical professionals that Noah’s quick action while home alone saved John’s life.
“I couldn’t just let him just sit there and pass away. I had to do something,” Noah said.
John was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he has since begun his long road to recovery as doctors still do not know what caused the nearly fatal heart attack.
“He is a hero,” Trisha said of her son. “Not just my eyes, but his sisters’, his dad’s, our friends’, our family’s.”
Noah does not seek praise, instead he draws attention to the importance of CPR knowledge and first aid abilities. These were skills he learned as a U.S. Navy Sea Cadet.
“I know everyone is calling me a hero, but that’s not like the way I see it,” he said. “I see it as I was there at the right time. I’m just glad that he’s safe and he’s going to be taken care of.”
The Whites do not know when John will be able to return to their Madison home, but say he will as soon as he clears tests.
“Just to know that like someday soon, we’ll have our family back together, is an incredible feeling,” Trisha said.
