Haverford Jazz Residency Campaign receives $1K grant
Haverford Township Education, Arts and Music Society (HTEAMS), the 501(c)(3) organization that is the exclusive producer of the annual Haverford Township Music Festival, has recently awarded the Haverford Jazz Residency Campaign a $1,000 grant, made possible by proceeds from the festival in August.
“The Haverford Township Music Festival is a family music festival that strengthens the cultural identify of Haverford Township and serves as the primary fundraiser for HTEAMS,” remarked HTEAMS President Jesse Hubley. “A portion of proceeds from the festival is distributed as grants to organizations and projects that enhance the quality of life in Haverford Township. The Haverford Jazz Residency Campaign certainly meets those criteria.”
The goal of the Haverford Jazz Residency Campaign is to annually fund an artist-in-residence program for the jazz students of the School District of Haverford Township.
The artist-in-residence visits the school district throughout the year, closely working with the students and directors of the music department’s five jazz ensembles, developing an educational and musical rapport with the students and directors while teaching, inspiring and performing alongside the students.
The Haverford Jazz Residency Campaign is overseen by Michael Fein, Music Department co-chair and music technology and jazz educator at Haverford High School.
The 11th annual Haverford Township Music Festival is planned for Saturday, Sept. 9 from noon to 9 p.m.
The festival will offer a full day’s worth of entertainment, headlined by internationally renowned recording artists Dana Fuchs, The Split Squad, and former NBC’s “The Voice” contestant Devix, supported by numerous regional performers from throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond, on multiple stages near Eagle and East Darby roads.
Area business sponsors and vendors will fill booths along the adjacent East Hathaway Lane, along with food vendors, beer gardens, children’s activities and much more end-of-summer fun for the entire family.
The festival is free and funded solely through sponsorships and donations.
Voluntary donations to help keep the festival free are greatly appreciated and gratefully accepted.
Donations can be made at https://haverfordmusicfestival.org/donate in advance and onsite at the festival. For more information, contact Barry Gutman at 610-952-0454 or bgutman747@aol.com.

Widener University’s School of Nursing has been recognized by the National League for Nursing as a Center of Excellence in the area of advancing the science of nursing education. This is the third time Widener has received this recognition.
Nine nursing education programs across the country and the academic spectrum of higher education in nursing, as well as leading teaching hospitals and clinical sites, have been named Centers of Excellence, with Widener being the only recipient in the category of advancing the science of nursing education for 2023.
Formal recognition of the award will take place at the 2023 National League for Nursing education summit in September.
“Widener is dedicated to educating the next generation of nurses by creating the evidence to support innovation in nursing education. Recognition for advancing the science of nursing education demonstrates our commitment to ensuring student success through scientific inquiry,” said Anne Krouse, dean of the school of nursing.
Since 2004, the National League for Nursing has encouraged nursing programs to apply to become a center of excellence based on their ability to demonstrate in concrete, measurable terms sustained excellence in faculty development, nursing education research, student learning and professional development, and academic progression in nursing.
Historically, many programs have achieved recognition in multiple categories or once designated, have maintained their center-of-excellence status through multiple award cycles.
National League for Nursing President and CEO Beverly Malone said, “NLN Centers of Excellence help raise the bar for all nursing programs by role modeling visionary leadership and inclusive excellence that are nurturing the next generation of a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of the nation and the global community.”
