LANSDALE, PA — A new year-round homeless shelter is opening up in Lansdale, Montgomery County Commissioners announced this week, the latest step toward attempting to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis on the streets around the region.
The facility, which is the second shelter to be announced in Lansdale in the past week after a women's shelter opened in Wissahickon Park, will house about 20 individuals in single and double rooms. It is slated to open at some point in 2025.

Officials did not yet disclose its exact location.
“Lansdale is a community where we take pride in helping others, Lansdale Borough Council President Mary Fuller said in a statement. "And addressing homelessness is no exception."

The project is estimated to cost about $1.3 million annually, including individualized case management, connections to permanent housing, access to public management, and basic social services and staffing, the county said.
It's a partnership between the borough, the county, and the nonprofit Resources for Human Development.
“Collaborating with the county on another initiative to provide shelter is truly a privilege for the borough," Fuller added. "And we are honored to be called back to the table to provide resources for those who need them most."
The county's January 2024 point in time count, an annual effort to count all individuals in the county experiencing homelessness, found 7 unsheltered and 31 sheltered people living in Lansdale. Officials estimated about 27 people are homeless year-round in the borough alone.
Lansdale Mayor Gary Herbert said the facts bore out a clear "gap."
“In Lansdale, we are always striving to build a better place to live, work, and play,” Herbert said “Doing so requires addressing gaps in our social safety net at all levels of government and partnering to meet the needs of everyone in our community."
The county says they are working on similar partnerships and projects with officials in Norristown, Pottstown, and West Norriton, and they said additional shelters could be announced in the new year.
