RANCHO CORDOVA – An arson suspect is in custody after barricading himself in a Sacramento County home that caught fire during a standoff Friday morning, authorities say.
The scene was along Ramsgate Way, a little off of Mather Field Road and Highway 50, in Rancho Cordova.
Metro Fire crews initially responded to the scene around 7:30 a.m. for a car fire call, detectives say, but it was found to be a suspected arson -- prompting deputies to be called to the scene.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says the suspect was contained to the home and no other people were believed to be inside.
Nearby homes were evacuated due to the incident, deputies say, and SWAT along with negotiators responded to the scene.
Around 10:40 a.m., smoke started to appear out of the home. Fire crews were staged at the scene and started spraying water on the building from a distance. It appeared the whole home was involved, firefighters say.
By about 12:15 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody. Deputies said the suspect surrendered peacefully.
Detectives said the suspect was wanted for starting two other fires in the area days prior.
No other details, including the name of the suspect, have been released.
Due to the incident, Ramsgate Way between Croydon Way and Portsmouth Drive was closed. Mather Field Road between Highway 50 and Mills Station Road was also closed.

Crews were able to protect the gas pumps, but the fire damaged the nearby mini-mart, Sac Metro Fire said. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation....

The fire was extinguished. Crews were able to protect the gas pumps, but the fire damaged the nearby mini-mart, Sac Metro Fire said. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. —
Sacramento County deputies took a man suspected of arson into their custody hours after a standoff and nearby house fire led to nearby evacuations, the sheriff's office said Friday.
The standoff began at 3030 Ramsgate Way off of Mather Field Road in the Rancho Cordova area, the sheriff's office said. SWAT teams, negotiators and armored vehicles surrounded the house on multiple sides.
Deputies were concerned that the man would set the house on fire and closed a portion of Ramsgate between Croydon Way and Portsmouth Drive. Mather Field Road was also closed in both directions from Highway 50 to Mills Station Road, but those roads have since reopened.
Details were not released on what led to the standoff.
At 10:45 a.m., LiveCopter 3 caught the moments when a house near where the standoff was happening caught fire.
KCRA 3's DeNeeka Hill observed deputies contacting the person suspected of arson, who was in the backyard of the house that is on fire. They were heard negotiating with the man.
Deputies used a battery ram to create an opening through the fence and asked the man to head through that opening to surrender.
As of 12 p.m., much of the house has collapsed into itself, and the flames have been mostly reduced to a smolder.
At 12:05 p.m., LiveCopter 3 observed a man in the backyard of the burning building.
From the ground, Hill saw the man go through the opening from the battering ram with his hands up before he started stepping back away from deputies, prompting them to fire several rubber bullets at him.
The man went back toward the house, and it is believed deputies apprehended him there. At 12:16 p.m., the sheriff's office announced it took him into custody.
