Home Care In Wilton, CT

Home Care Wilton, CT

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic The Caretaker's House gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Wilton, CT is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

“I am writing on behalf of my family to tell you how appreciative we are of Always Best Care and your services. These have not been the best of times for my family and especially hard on my Mom but we take great comfort knowing you are there to help. Our caretaker has been wonderful since my Dad was sent to River Glen in Southbury and from the very beginning of our ordeal. My Mom is extremely protective of my Dad and has always requested for Judy to help out with my Dad. To me that is the biggest proof of our confidence that has been my Mom's faith in her. Anything we have asked of her she has delivered and shown what most can't - that she really cares. Your Professional staff is a pleasure to work with - adapting schedules, applying payments quickly, and always courteous. I felt like great service should be made aware of and should set a standard that Always Best Care always seems to meet..”

“I am sending you some of my thoughts about Always Best Care now that I have had time to reflect. Mom’s move to Assisted Living has gone very well and I’d like you to know:--From the initial home meeting and throughout my mother’s care, everyone was extremely personable, professional and knowledgeable of the home care industry. --ABC matched caregivers to my Mother’s needs and personality and we (and my Mother) were very happy with the care received and with the communication between caregivers and family.--Although my Mother is in Memory Care now, she still remembers ‘her ladies’ that not only assisted in her care, but more importantly, offered friendship. We would be very happy to be used as a reference if needed!”

“I just wanted to shoot you a quick email expressing our thoughts about Mary, who was the caregiver for the weekend. We all thought she was wonderful!! I think her biggest strength is that she “sees the work”, needs little/to no direction, offers to take things out of our hands, is a true-go-getter. For Billie, this type of help is great since she feels like she can take some time to rest and trust all is okay. Mary works hard and is also very patient. I really think Mary is a natural dealing with elderly. She is patient and kind! Anyway, what I wanted to ask is if Mary can be the consistent caregiver for the weekends. The other 4 caregivers that I have met are also very nice. We would like Mary as much as possible as she is punctual, and as I mentioned before, ‘sees what needs doing”. She is focused on what she can do to help. She doesn’t just sit there next to Bill, she has eyes in the back of her head and goes the extra mile. Anything that needs to get done, she says “no wait, let me do it’—if she hasn’t already initiated it herself. She seems to have endless energy and never complained. I just felt compelled to drop you a this note to let you know how impressed we were with her. Thanks”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Wilton, CT?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Schoolhouse At Cannondale or visit Wilton Historical Society, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Wilton, CT, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Wilton, CT

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your CT's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
 Senior Care Wilton, CT

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Wilton, CT understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Wilton, CT

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Wilton, CT

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Sunrise of Wilton
  • Brookdale Wilton
  • The Greens at Cannondale
  • Laurel Ridge
  • Wilton Meadows Nursing & Rehabilitation
  • Ogden House
Home Care Wilton, CT

For many seniors, moving into a senior living community revolves around how and when they want to make a transition to more involved care. Some seniors are more proactive about transitioning to independent living. Others choose to remain home until their care needs or other requirements are satisfied. Remember - our staff is here to help. Contact our office today to learn more about assisted living communities and how we can find a facility that exceeds your expectations.

Sen. Chris Murphy made a brief penultimate stop in Wilton on the last day of this year’s annual walk across Connecticut — and GOOD Morning Wilton was the only media outlet to speak with him while he was in town.

This year, he began in Salisbury, CT and walked south along Rte. 7, averaging about 20 miles a day. Saturday was day four of the journey, and he walked through the early morning rain into town to meet up with GOOD Morning Wilton across from Wilton’s Town Hall.

During the visit, Murphy experienced a bit of Wilton flavor — literally — as GMW brought him a couple of Wilton-famous fresh doughnuts from Rise Doughnuts to help energize his last few miles to Norwalk’s Town Green, and we got in a couple of fast questions on some more serious topics related to Wilton — housing, the economy, and the importance of truly listening to constituents (including how infrequently he comes to Wilton).

This is the ninth year of Murphy’s tradition of walking across the state. He said it lets him connect with constituents outside the usual political circuits — part outreach, part listening tour, to try to better understand the challenges Connecticut residents face every day. It’s the first time he’s been through Wilton on his walk, and we were allotted only 10-15 minutes.

Just after taking his first bite of a doughnut, a car pulled over to the side of Rte. 7 to tell Murphy he was a fan and to thank him for the work the senator’s doing in D.C.

GOOD Morning Wilton: I’m sure that’s nice to hear. Somebody who has good things to say.

Sen. Chris Murphy: A lot people will pull over. I would say 80% of the time it’s people pulling over to say something nice. But I’m out here talking to everybody. Most of the folks, almost everybody, is very, very friendly. But obviously we’ll occasionally run into people who are big supporters of Trump or vehemently disagree with me on certain issues. That’s why I do this as well.

GMW: I know you’ve heard a lot about housing in Connecticut on your walk. It’s a hot topic right now, especially with the housing bill that’s moving through the legislature in Hartford. [EDITOR’S NOTE: HB 5002 passed both state houses, and is now going to Gov. Lamont.] Wilton, like a lot of other towns, has a kind of push-pull — we need housing but people say they don’t want to lose Wilton’s charm. You can’t see it from here, but right over there in Wilton Center, there’s a huge, five story building that came in through 8-30g that a lot of people are upset about. What do you say to Wilton residents about housing? What do you say to people who don’t want an explosion of multi-family developments?

Murphy: The number one issue that I hear about on the walk is the cost of housing, and the number of people who talk to me about housing has increased every year that I’ve done the walk. Connecticut is becoming unaffordable because people are being priced out of the housing market. There’s very few places for young families to get their start. There’s very few good rental options.

Mostly what I think is important for people to understand is that right now, when we try to recruit businesses to come to Connecticut, the primary reason they don’t come here is because of the lack of housing. Connecticut is last in the nation in terms of the pace of housing construction. We shouldn’t be last in anything as a state. We’re a great state and a great place to live, but we are going to start to fall way behind other states in being competitive for business if we don’t start building more housing.

I just don’t think there’s a choice to be had between building more housing and maintaining the character of our communities. And so I’m supportive of the bill that’s moving through the state legislature now. I do think we should make it easier and cheaper to build housing in this state, and I just don’t think we have any choice right now.

GMW: Wilton has had 900 new units [apartments] that were approved locally in Wilton just within the last year. But, the affordability component is not as much as the state would like us to have.

Murphy: And everybody has a different perspective on apartment buildings or bigger scale developments. You know, I’m not offended by them. I think you can build some of those developments into a community in a way that doesn’t destroy the character.

GMW: With a large multi-national company like ASML located here in Wilton, we are aware of that. They’re adding on and bringing more people in. And Gov. Lamont always asks, “How’s ASML doing?” It’s his first question when he comes here.

So let’s talk about the economy. With everything that’s happening in Washington, where we don’t know which way we are headed on a given day, how is everything that’s going on in Washington, related to the economy, how is it going to impact us here in Wilton? What do you want to say to Wilton residents about what we’re going to do — we’ve got a triple A rating. The country just lost its triple A rating — what do you want to say to Wilton residents?

Murphy: Well, I mean, when I’m stopping into small businesses this year, I’m hearing a lot of people talking about their customers confidence and spending habits being damaged here. And you know, Trump’s strategy is intentional chaos, and that has an impact on consumers. There’s a lot of folks that are holding back, nervous about which way tariffs are going, and not willing to go out and spend as much money or eat out restaurants as much as they might have last year. So, I obviously do everything I can to fight Trump’s nonsensical and dangerous tariffs, but it is having an impact.

Heather: So, I’ve been here 12 years. I know Congressman Jim Himes pretty well, he’s been to Wilton many times. I’ve met Sen. Blumenthal several times on his visits here. I’m surprised you and I have never met. I mean, what is it going to take to get you to Wilton more?

Murphy: [Laughs] I will admit that. I do not keep the schedule that Sen. Blumenthal does. I have young kids, and I am a co-equal parent, so I don’t spend every day of the weekends, traveling the state, I have lots of kid obligations. That’s still my first job.

But this walk is obviously, you know, a way that I try to… not just communicate exceptional things but to listen. I think it’s important to not just hear the squeaky wheel. If you just call your office or you’re only going to political events, you’re going to hear people that are already part of politics. Who I’m talking to on this walk are people who don’t pay any attention to politics, but they have real things that they care about.

I’ll tell you. Wilton, I’ve just stopped at every gas station and deli that’s been open along the walk. People are really proud to live here. Everybody I’ve talked to without me prompting that conversation wants to talk about Wilton, wants to talk about the great schools, wants to talk about their kids’ sports. I sometimes get frustrated because, for whatever reason, in this state, we don’t often talk ourselves up as much as other states do. But you know, there’s some really great places to live and raise a family. Wilton is one of them, and it’s just nice to sort of hear that pride when you walk through town.

GMW: We do bleed Wilton blue, that’s for sure.

Three community-focused professionals have been appointed to the Board of Directors at Nuvance Health, now part of Northwell Health. The addition of Timothy Dean, Francoise Dunefsky and Tom Dubin brings seasoned insight and a strong commitment to supporting the region’s evolving healthcare needs.

The new board members bring a combined legacy of leadership in business, public health, nursing and nonprofit governance. As Nuvance Health continues its integration with Northwell Health — the largest health system in New York — their experience will help shape future initiatives to expand access, improve quality and support staff across the Hudson Valley and Western Connecticut.

Steven Lant appointed chair of the Nuvance Health Board of Directors

“We are thrilled to welcome these exceptional leaders to the board,” Steven Lant said. “Tim, Francoise and Tom bring invaluable knowledge and a shared dedication to advancing community healthcare. Their insights and leadership will be key as we continue our mission as part of Northwell Health.”

Lant, who has served in board leadership roles for more than two decades, steps into the chair position at a pivotal moment. He succeeds Anne Roby, who was recognized for her contributions as outgoing chair.

Mark Gudis appointed vice chair of the Nuvance Health Board of Directors

Serving alongside Lant is Mark Gudis, named vice chair of the Nuvance Health Board of Directors after years of dedicated board service. He is a co-founder and managing partner of Backcast Partners Management LLC and brings more than 30 years of investment and C-suite leadership experience to the role. Gudis has deep financial expertise in nonprofit healthcare governance as the chair of the Nuvance Health Finance Committee and vice chair of the Investment Committee, where he spent 10 years as chair. He also served as chair of the Norwalk Hospital Board of Directors.

Meet the new board members of the Nuvance Health Board of Directors

Tom Dubin, who previously chaired the Norwalk Hospital board, is a legal and public health expert. He was the chief legal officer at Alexion Pharmaceuticals. He is passionate about quality and ensuring each hospital delivers exceptional and accessible care.

“Great healthcare systems must deliver superb care to all while earning the community’s trust,” Dubin said. “I look forward to advancing Nuvance Health’s mission to maintain excellence, improve patient experiences and ensure financial sustainability.”

Timothy Dean is a respected business leader and former CEO of Marshall & Sterling Enterprises Inc. He is no stranger to the Nuvance Health system, having served as chair of the Vassar Brothers Medical Center board and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee.

“My desire to represent our community and ensure Nuvance Health continues to lead in delivering quality care motivated me to join the board,” Dean said. “I’ll leverage my risk management and finance background to support the board’s oversight responsibilities and uphold best practices.”

Francoise Dunefsky, a registered nurse and former president and CEO of Gateway Hudson Valley, brings a unique lens to the board — grounded in both hands-on patient care and executive leadership. She is also a former chair of the Vassar Brothers Medical Center board.

“Patient care is a team sport,” Dunefsky said. “I’m honored to bring my experience in nursing administration, regional planning and social determinants of health to help Nuvance Health strengthen interdisciplinary teams and expand services.”

Board leadership to support a new era at Nuvance Health

This transition in board leadership comes as Nuvance Health begins its next chapter with Northwell Health. The affiliation strengthens the health system’s ability to offer more advanced services, improve outcomes, and broaden access to innovative care at Danbury, New Milford, Norwalk, Sharon, Northern Dutchess and Putnam Hospitals and Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

“Our purpose has always been to keep people well and help them heal,” said Dr. John M. Murphy, president and CEO of Nuvance Health. “As part of Northwell Health, we are positioned better than ever to fulfill that mission. Together, we will expand access to care, deepen community engagement and improve outcomes across our region.”

A vital role in community health

Board members at nonprofit health systems like Nuvance Health take on vital responsibilities — from shaping long-term strategy to ensuring financial sustainability. They also serve as trusted advocates for the communities they represent, helping to build public confidence and guide meaningful progress.

The system extended its appreciation to all board members for their commitment and leadership, recognizing their role in driving forward Nuvance Health’s mission to improve health and well-being across the region.

WILTON, CT — Wilton Library Association celebrated its 130th Annual Meeting for Friends on June 18 with a slate of recognitions, business proceedings, and a major funding announcement.

The library unveiled a new partnership with ASML, which will provide approximately $810,000 in support over three years, along with volunteer assistance. The funding will help launch new programs, enhance technology offerings, and expand cultural and educational events.

Brian Amero, program manager for Society and Community Engagement at ASML, joined Executive Director Caroline Mandler in announcing the collaboration.

“ASML’s core values are Challenge, Collaborate, and Care which drive our belief that innovation and responsibility must go hand in hand," Amero said. "The spectacular growth of the semiconductor industry has been fueled by innovation. For over 40 years ASML has been part of that, breaking down technological barriers on our way to becoming one of the world's most valuable tech companies. With that honor comes a responsibility to make a positive contribution to the communities where our employees and their families live, work, and learn. Today, I am pleased to not only share in the announcement of this partnership, but to do so as a Wilton Library cardholder.”

The grant will support an ASML Author Series, an annual jazz festival, a monthly children’s music program, a Bloomberg Terminal, tech support services through a Digital Navigators program, and additional resources for the library’s robotics team and staff development.

Mandler credited ASML with helping to accelerate key goals identified in the library’s strategic plan. “We are truly appreciative of ASML’s support, and for their belief in the Library’s mission and vision,” she said.

During the meeting, outgoing board members were honored, new trustees were elected, and recognitions were presented. Seema Saksena was named Staff Person of the Year for her 20 years of service, while the entire 45-member Book Sale Team received the Volunteer of the Year award for their work organizing annual fundraising events.

The robotics team Singularity Technology, which recently qualified for the international FIRST Technology Challenge World Championship, gave a presentation showcasing their award-winning work.

Board officers for 2025–2026 were confirmed: Carol Johnson as president, Stephanie Johns-Clark as vice president, Andrew Purcell as secretary, and Penny Maxwell as treasurer. Trustees continuing their terms include Matthew Greene, Mark Kaduboski, and Andrew Purcell. New trustees elected were Pamela Carlson, Thomas Clark, Robin Clune, and Jennifer Kendra. Retiring trustees honored were Roberto De Feo, Jennifer Longmire, Sandy Stein, and Christine Wachter.

During the past few years, Connecticut has allocated millions of dollars to boost the growth of a manufacturing giant in the state. That support is reinforced in the state budget for the next two years, which was passed at the start of this month.

The new budget includes a section that answers recently surfaced questions about whether funds awarded in recent years could in fact be provided to ASML, which manufactures photolithography machines that make semiconductors. Dispelling those doubts was a priority for economic-development officials, given that ASML is one of the state’s largest and fastest-growing corporate employers with more than 3,200 employees based at its campus in Wilton — a jump of about 30% from three years ago.

“I speak to ASML on a continual basis, including senior leadership. They continue to be committed to Connecticut and continue to be committed to growing in Connecticut,” Daniel O’Keefe, commissioner of the state Department of Economic and Community Development, said this week.

Through the state’s First Five Plus corporate-incentives program, ASML has earned $14 million in grants and $6 million in tax breaks. But a recent review by the state Department of Revenue Services raised questions about ASML’s funding eligibility because of how the company is structured — uncertainty that was resolved by putting provisions in the new budget, according to O’Keefe. The budget includes a section that outlines the conditions for providing tax credits to ASML.

“This is about clarifying that they are eligible to effect existing and previously granted incentives,” O’Keefe said.

The budget does not allocate new funding for ASML. But O’Keefe said, “they certainly could be eligible for future incentives, and I hope they will be.”

In response to an inquiry from CT Insider, ASML officials said in a written statement this week that, “we will continue to invest and expand in Wilton to address needs of ASML overall based on market conditions.” The Wilton campus comprises the company’s largest site, outside its global headquarters in Veldhoven, in the Netherlands.

Among key developments in recent years, ASML announced in 2022 a plan to invest another $200 million in its research-and-development and manufacturing facility on Danbury Road in Wilton. The project called for adding about 37,000 square feet to the facility, which then covered approximately 350,000 square feet.

At the same time, company officials said they intended to add another 1,000 employees to the campus, which then had a head count of about 2,500. Much of the recruitment focuses on design and engineering, manufacturing and the supply chain.

“With the growth of the semiconductor industry, we need to make sure that we can produce all these critical modules,” ASML Vice President of Engineering Joost Ploegmakers said at a groundbreaking ceremony at the facility in September 2022. “That’s why we’re expanding both our optical fabrication — one of our key competencies here at the site — as well as our cleanroom assembly. We have to grow that in order to keep up with the growing number of systems we’re producing.”

In their new statement, ASML officials said, “most of the plans announced in 2022 have been completed,” including the optical fabrication expansion. They noted, however, that “some plans have been reprioritized to make way for new plans such as remodeling B20,” a building the company occupies on Westport Road in Wilton.

Local officials have welcomed the ongoing expansion.

“ASML is an integral and important part of Wilton’s economy,” Wilton First Selectwoman Toni Boucher said this week.

The growth of the Wilton campus has been driven by the rising demand in recent years for ASML’s photolithography machines, which are used by its customers to produce microchips. Those semiconductors are critical components of hardware that ranges from smartphones to cars to MRI scanners to industrial robots to data centers. Last year, ASML produced net sales of about 28.3 billion euros, equal to about $32.7 billion — up around 2.5% year over year.

But the wave of new tariffs announced or enacted by President Donald Trump’s administration in the past few months has clouded ASML's outlook. In its earnings report for the first quarter of this year, ASML officials noted that the “potential direct impacts” from tariffs could extend to the sale of new systems and upgrades for U.S. customers, imports of materials for U.S. manufacturing facilities and imports of parts and tools for U.S. field operations.

“We are working with our customers and suppliers to try to achieve that any direct impact of tariffs on our results is limited,” Roger Dassen, ASML’s chief financial officer, said during the company’s first-quarter earnings call on April 16. “The tariff discussion is still very dynamic. The potential indirect impact on end-market demand is even more complex and impossible to determine at this stage.”

O’Keefe remains optimistic, however, about ASML’s long-term prospects in Connecticut.

“I expect them to keep growing here,” O’Keefe said. “I think they recognize that what they make is an incredibly complicated product and that Connecticut has a uniquely positioned workforce to produce that incredibly complicated product.”

Meanwhile, state officials are trying to help other companies mitigate the impact of tariffs through the new Strategic Supply Chain Initiative, which provides funding for firms that relocate operations to Connecticut or expand existing business in the state. The program’s first grant, for $2.5 million, was awarded last month to Trumpf, a Farmington-based maker of machine tools and laser technology used in manufacturing.

“No one is going to move an entire facility, unless they know what the economics are going to look like,” O’Keefe said. “What people are doing, I think, is saying, ‘Ok, we see rising protectionism. We don’t know how much it’s going to be yet, but clearly it’s rising. So let’s expand existing production capacity in Connecticut.’”
