Great Divide Brewing Co. joins forces with a growing Colorado craft beverage company that has acquired other Denver-area brands.
One of Denver's best-known craft beer companies, a brewery founded nearly 30 years ago, has been acquired by the growing owner of several Colorado beverage brands.
Great Divide Brewing Co. was acquired by Wilding Brands, the parent company behind Denver Beer Co., Stem Ciders, Cerveceria Colorado and other craft beverage brands.
The companies announced the acquisition Tuesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“The dedication to evolving the business and a passion for Colorado make Wilding and Great Divide a perfect match,” Brian Dunn, founder of Great Divide, said in a statement. “... I’ve seen a lot of change in the craft beer industry over the years, and Wilding is building with a clear vision. This is exciting news for Colorado and the industry.”
The acquisition includes Great Divide’s wholesale business and any future brick-and-mortar locations, according to a statement from Wilding Brands.
Great Divide has two outposts in Denver. One in the River North Art District, at 1812 35th St., and another at the brewery’s original taproom at 2201 Arapahoe St., in Denver's Ballpark District. The brewery also has locations in Castle Rock, Lone Tree, Belmar and Denver International Airport’s Concourse C. No changes are expected to these locations, according to Wilding Brands.
Great Divide production will move from the Ballpark District to Wilding’s Canworks facility in Denver’s Sunnyside neighborhood, the companies said.
“Great Divide has a rich history and a well-earned reputation for brewing some of the best beers in Colorado and arguably the country,” Charlie Berger, co-founder and chief development officer of Wilding Brands, said in a statement. “Our goal is to honor that legacy while bringing new energy and resources to help the brand grow and continue to be a foundation of the Colorado craft beer story.”
Berger, who co-founded Denver Beer Co., started his career at Great Divide on the bottling line, according to Wilding Brands.
Great Divide claims to be Denver’s oldest and largest packaging brewery, according to its website. It produced 18,407 barrels of beer in 2023, according to Denver Business Journal research. Great Divide also began brewing beer for Aurora-based Dry Dock Brewing Co. in 2023.
The company also claims to be one of the U.S.’s most decorated breweries. Great Divide beer has earned 19 Great American Beer Festival medals and five World Beer Cup awards, according to Great Divide’s website.
Wilding Brands was formed in 2024 by Berger, Stem Ciders co-founder Eric Foster and Brad Lincoln, who co-founded Colorado-based breweries Funkwerks and Jessup Farm Barrel House.
Wilding Brands describes itself as an “innovative family of craft beverage brands.” Other local names that operate under Wilding Brands include Formation Brewing, Funkwerks Brewing, Howdy Beer Co. and Easy Living Hop Water.
The company just struck a $12 million deal selling and leasing back its cidery campus in Lafayette, a real estate deal predicted to free up funding for expansion there.
