In Loving Memory of Kenneth & Betty Jessen
With deep love, sorrow, and gratitude for two lives well-lived, the family of Kenneth and Betty Jessen announce their peaceful passings just eight days apart — a powerful reflection of the unbreakable bond they shared over 72 years of marriage. Betty passed away at home in Loveland, Colorado, on July 6, 2025, at the age of 91. Ken followed her on July 14, 2025, at the age of 92. Their love was the foundation of a family that brought them tremendous joy, pride, and purpose.
Born in Canton, South Dakota, Betty was the heart of the family—warm, nurturing, and unwavering in her devotion. Ken, born in Denver, Colorado had a heart as strong as his work ethic. He lived a life marked by quiet strength, humor, and dedication. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Navigation Electrician for 7 years, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1958. His service to the country will be honored with a military ceremony—a fitting tribute to a life lived with integrity and duty. He later built a long and respected career in construction, known for his craftsmanship and leadership.
Ken faced life’s challenges with the same steady resolve he brought to everything he did—including surviving prostate cancer with quiet resilience and grace.
Together, they raised five beloved children: Debby (James) King, Steve (Debbie) Jessen, Sandy (Lero) Roza, Scott (Audra) Jessen, and Dennis (Debbie) Jessen. Their legacy lives on through 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy in their lives. They were preceded in death by their granddaughter Carrie Kay King, whose memory remained close to their hearts throughout their lives.
Betty found immense joy in nurturing her home and her garden, which bloomed year after year as a living testament to her patience and care. She loved puzzles and found peaceful satisfaction in fitting each piece perfectly into place. She also loved reading, often losing herself in a good book and finding joy, comfort, and escape in the written word. She delighted in spoiling her grandchildren, especially with the treasured tradition of letting them choose a gift from her “magic closet”. She also loved to gamble—particularly enjoying trips to Las Vegas and Blackhawk —and never missed a grandchild’s birthday, always making each one feel incredibly special. Her unwavering faith and favorite scripture, “When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you,” served as a beacon of strength through life’s challenges.
Family was always at the heart of everything Betty did. She offered unwavering support during times of sorrow and celebrated every joy with deep pride. She stood by her children no matter what, offering encouragement, loyalty, and unconditional love.
Ken was a man who worked with his hands and loved with his whole heart. He raised his family with the same steady hands that built homes, and his famously well-timed jokes and warm presence made everyone feel like family. His love for the outdoors, weekends at the cabin, and time spent boating on the lake were simple joys he shared with those he loved most.
Most of all, Ken would do anything and everything for Betty. Their marriage was a rare and beautiful love story—resilient, joyful, and deeply rooted in faith and devotion. In his final days, Ken’s thoughts remained with her. One of his last tender reflections was, “It’s been a long time since I hugged my wife.” After a lifetime of caring for her through illness with steadfast grace and devotion, his soul simply could not remain in a world without her. They were content simply being with each other—happy to share quiet moments together watching their favorite shows like Heartland or Virgin River, holding hands, and soaking in each other’s presence.
The holidays were especially magical at Ken and Betty’s house. They went all out with festive decorations and delicious food, making every occasion feel like a cherished event. Christmas was their favorite time of year—so much so that Betty would begin preparing in October. No detail was overlooked, and no one was ever left out. They welcomed everyone with open arms and genuine warmth, making each guest feel like part of the family. Even significant others were lovingly included with their own custom handmade stockings—a testament to Betty’s thoughtfulness and their shared spirit of giving. Ken had a sweet tooth, and Betty never disappointed—baking enough pies, cookies, and desserts to keep him sneaking treats between meals and to send leftovers home with the grandchildren. Those gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and a sense of belonging that left a lasting impression on everyone who was lucky enough to be there.
Their passing leaves a tremendous void, but also a powerful legacy of love, faith, and family. We will miss Betty’s nurturing heart and Ken’s steady hands and cheerful smile—their laughter, their strength, and the warmth they brought to every gathering.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing they are together once again—hand in hand, tending Heaven’s gardens, watching over us, and continuing their beautiful love story beyond this life.
