ZACHARY, La. (WAFB) - Authorities searched a property along Ash Street in Zachary on Monday morning, Sept. 14, as part of an investigation into the disappearance of two women.
West Feliciana Parish Sheriff Brian Spillman confirmed the search also remains active at the Morris Road site.
According to the sheriff, some of the team diverted to Zachary to help search there while others stayed on-site and prepared to begin excavation of identified sites of concern.
“The Zachary site search has been planned for weeks and is part and parcel to the Morris Road search,” Spillman said.
Four days ago, the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office announced they had linked the investigation of two missing women, Madison Re’nea Allen and Stephanie Hevia, with that of an alleged out-of-state kidnapping back in July.
Deputies identified Thomas Morris, 43, as a person of interest in the two women’s missing persons investigation.
Morris is currently facing charges in connection with the kidnapping only. Those charges include second-degree kidnapping, illegal possession of stolen firearms, and false imprisonment.
Allen is believed to have disappeared in late November 2023. Her last contact with family members indicated she was living in Zachary.
Hevia is believed to have disappeared in March 2025. Her last known location is believed to have been 9745 Morris Road in West Feliciana Parish.
Officials stated that both victims were known acquaintances of Morris, a native of West Feliciana Parish who lived for a time in Zachary and had most recently returned to live with his sister at the Morris Road address.
The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office began searching Morris’ property Friday after securing a search warrant. Sheriff Brian Spillman said Thursday that they were searching for evidence connected to the two women’s disappearances, including possible human remains.
As of Monday, Spillman said that 14 different agencies assisting with the Morris Road search have logged 673 manhours to date.
“We’re very thankful for the overwhelming support we’re receiving and hopeful we can provide some answers to the victims’ families,” the sheriff said.

ZACHARY, La. (WAFB) - Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary has eliminated 14 positions and is shutting down its Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Clinic as part of organizational changes to strengthen its long-term financial stability, hospital officials confirmed Thursday, August 6.
The staffing cuts, which affect staff, leadership, and physician roles, come as the hospital continues to navigate persistent financial pressures, including rising operating costs, workforce challenges, and lagging reimbursement rates, hospital leaders said. Officials cited low patient volume as the reason for closing the allergy clinic.
“These were extraordinarily difficult decisions and among the most challenging we have faced as an organization,” Lane CEO Frank Corcoran said in a statement. “While these decisions are painful, they are intended to preserve our mission and ensure that Lane remains a trusted healthcare resource for this community for years to come.”
Hospital leaders said Lane remains fully operational and committed to delivering patient care.
At the same time, Lane confirmed it is still actively exploring a potential affiliation with another healthcare organization to enhance its financial stability and support physician recruitment.
The hospital’s Board of Commissioners originally authorized exploring an affiliation last month on July 16.
Corcoran stressed that no final decisions regarding a strategic partner have been made, and the evaluation process remains ongoing.
Zachary Mayor David McDavid said he learned firsthand Thursday how the layoffs are affecting employees.
“I ran into one of the people that was laid off today at a restaurant; I was eating there, and they told me they’d been laid off, and it was devastating,” McDavid said.
McDavid said he hopes Lane can find a partnership that preserves and strengthens health care services in Zachary.
“If they could partner with, you know, Lady of the Lake, Ochsner, Baton Rouge General, whoever it may be, to make sure it stays with a solid foundation that we continue to grow here in Zachary,” McDavid said.
“You’ve still got to have a bigger hospital here with all you can do. Whether it’s heart doctors, surgeries and stuff here, it’s very important for this region,” he added.
