Zachary, LA (March 24, 2025) – Authorities responded to an injury crash early Tuesday morning in the 23000 block of Sunnyside Ln near the intersection of Port Hudson-Plains Rd and Grove Ave. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO) reported the incident at approximately 7:27 a.m.
First responders, including paramedics, assessed and treated individuals hurt in the crash. The collision occurred in a residential area just outside the city limits of Zachary, affecting morning traffic and requiring temporary lane restrictions while the scene was cleared.
Although the total number of injured parties has not been confirmed, officials indicated that at least one person sustained injuries requiring on-site care. EMS teams assisted those involved, while deputies secured the scene and worked to document the incident for further investigation.
Traffic was slowed on nearby Port Hudson-Plains Rd as vehicles were diverted away from the crash site. EBRSO continues to investigate the cause of the crash and whether additional factors, such as speed or road conditions, may have contributed.

Crashes on Residential Roads in Louisiana
Crashes in residential areas like Sunnyside Ln can have serious consequences for both drivers and nearby residents. These roads often serve as connectors between larger highways and neighborhoods, but their design can present visibility issues, limited signage, and unexpected vehicle or pedestrian movement.
In East Baton Rouge Parish, residential crashes account for a significant portion of non-fatal injury accidents. In neighborhoods near Zachary, local streets like Sunnyside Ln and Port Hudson-Plains Rd are commonly traveled by school buses, delivery vehicles, and morning commuters—raising the potential for early-day incidents.
The combination of distracted driving, tight turns, and reduced space often results in rear-end or side-impact collisions. Even moderate-speed crashes can lead to injuries requiring emergency care, especially in areas where response times may be affected by distance or congestion.
Victims of residential crashes are encouraged to get medical treatment promptly and to document the scene if it is safe to do so. Injuries may worsen over time, and legal or insurance support may be necessary to recover compensation for medical costs or vehicle damage.
