Home Care In Lombard, IL

Home Care Lombard, IL

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Lombard Historical Society - Sheldon Peck Homestead gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Lombard, IL is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

The Always Best Care Difference

Since 1996, Always Best Care has provided non-medical in-home care for seniors to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle as they get older. We are proud to have helped more than 25,000 seniors maintain higher levels of dignity and respect. Unlike some senior care companies, we genuinely want to be included in our clients' lives. We believe that personalized care is always the better option over a "one size fits all" approach. To make sure our senior clients receive the best care possible, we pair them with compassionate caregivers who understand their unique needs. That way, they may provide care accordingly without compromising their wellbeing.

The Always Best Care difference lies in life's little moments - where compassionate care and trustworthy experience come together to help seniors live a fruitful, healthy life. Whether you are an aging adult that can't quite keep up with life's daily tasks or the child of a senior who needs regular in-home services, Always Best Care is here to help.

“I again want to compliment Shannon on her fine work as my uncle's caregiver. She truly came from above. Today is his 92nd Birthday and I can't be there, but she has made the day special for him with cake and small gifts. She also keeps close tabs on his failing health and coordinates his care excellently. She goes above and beyond what would be expected. I don't know Rihanna as well, but she, too, sounds like she cares for my uncle in a kind and positive way. My uncle can be demanding and cranky and they both do a good job maintaining an upbeat attitude. Last but not least, I appreciate Ana for juggling so many clients and caregivers, which in our own situation seem to change on a dime, yet she always comes through. Thanks again”

“I recently worked with Michelle Kramer at Always Best Care. I would recommend Michelle to anyone who is navigating Senior care for their loved one. Michelle is so knowledgeable as she has been in the industry for so long. She helped me to find places to move my dad, she knew all the answers to the hard questions that I had. Michelle was just amazing and I literally could not have moved my dad recently without her help. I also used their care facilities in July when I moved my dad to his first memory care facility to help him transition. Their caregivers were great and they were so flexible with the times that I needed someone with my dad.”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Lombard, IL?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local The Capital Grille or visit Boeger-Brinkman Cemetery, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Lombard, IL, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Home Care Lombard, IL

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your IL's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
Home Care Lombard, IL

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Lombard, IL understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Home Care Lombard, IL

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
Home Care Lombard, IL

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Lombard Place Assisted Living & Memory Care
  • Lexington Square Retirement Community of Lombard
  • Sunrise at Fountain Square

New development is a joint venture between Pacific Retail Capital Partners and Synergy Construction

CHICAGO, Sept. 27, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Retail Capital Partners (PRCP), one of the nation's leading retail developers and operating groups of large open- air and enclosed shopping centers, and Synergy Construction, a development and construction firm, announced today the acquisition and redevelopment of the former Carson's anchor store at Yorktown Center in Lombard, IL.

The 12-acre property, located at 230 Yorktown Center, will be co-developed by PRCP and Synergy, with new luxury multi-family buildings, a 3+ acre park area that will be used as a communal outdoor environment and newly energized dining and retail offerings. Construction on the two-phase project is anticipated to begin in Spring 2023 with an estimated completion of phase 1 in Spring, 2025 subject to final planning review by the Village of Lombard.

"As department store buildings around the country become obsolete, communities look to companies like Synergy and Pacific Retail for the next vision for retail malls," said Phil Domenico, Principal, Synergy Construction. "With Synergy and PRCP's acquisition of the former Carson's building at Yorktown Center in Lombard, the joint venture is positioned to set forth a truly transformative mixed-use project, that will become a template for other malls around the country."

Originally opened as the largest shopping center in America in 1968, Yorktown Center had as one of its anchors, Carson Pirie Scott, who enjoyed a 50-year run as a prominent department store in Lombard before closing its doors in 2018. Pacific Retail has owned the property since 2012 and has been able to rebalance the asset systematically by implementing a thorough renovation of the interior of the mall, targeted leasing upgrades, master planning and adding a residential community to Yorktown Center, including a portion of the center that was rezoned by PRCP for residential and sold off in 2018 to develop over 500 units, Elan, and Overture.

"This project marks the next evolution in our strategic masterplan and vision for Yorktown Center. We saw the closure of Carson's as a unique opportunity for further redevelopment of the property in that it offers a vast space that is prime for creative re-imagination," said Steve Plenge, CEO, Pacific Retail Capital Partners. "We are in the business of transforming shopping malls. We believe we can add a vibrant mix of uses to create further densification to a site where people will want to live, shop, dine and be entertained. This development is a needed investment that ensures the viability of the shopping center and will enhance the local community for generations to come."

Phase 1 of the project includes the demolition of the former Carson's building, construction of a multi-family residential building, the creation of a large park area that will be a communal outdoor space, as well as peripheral building modifications to the shopping center that will create a seamless connection to the residential units.

"When Carson's closed, we knew we needed to explore different opportunities to redevelop the space to the highest and best use," said Jonathan Rood, executive vice president of development, PRCP. "With the addition of residential buildings and the ability to activate the green space, we are able to add a number of new restaurant concepts and retailers to this dynamic redevelopment."

Mumbai: ICICI Lombard, one of India's leading general insurance companies, has embarked on a wacky and wonderful new adventure. The quirky campaign showcases the innovative IL TakeCare App that has till date 5.6 million user downloads. The latest ad campaign takes us on a journey that is quite literally out of this world…all the way to Mars! The flagship ILTakeCare App goes beyond insurance offerings for purchase, renewal, or claims but is a holistic wellbeing app with innovative features like face scan to track health vitals, doctor consultations on video, diet consultations with nutritionists, access to mental health practitioners, water reminder, step up challenge and many more! And thus the central idea of the IL TakeCare App being ‘out of this world’

The digital-led campaign has a master film and four shorties and the tonality is quirky and funny with two central characters of a base scientist and an astronaut on Mars. The films depict an astronaut leveraging the app while exploring Mars on a mission, all the while relying on the IL TakeCare App to stay healthy with the click of a button. Through this extra-terrestrial storyscape, ICICI Lombard hopes to demonstrate how the app can provide customers with innovative and relevant features for a healthy life. All of which are delivered seamlessly through a hassle-free app experience.

ICICI Lombard head – marketing, corporate communication and CSR Sheena Kapoor said, “As a leading general insurer, we are deeply invested in the health and wellbeing of Indians and that has been our guiding philosophy behind our flagship app IL TakeCare, which is today trusted by over 5.6 million users, and open to all irrespective of whether they are our existing customers or not. In fact am pleased to share that a major part of our user base are customers at large and not just our existing policyholders. We have expanded our continuum of care and created a holistic platform that stands for wellbeing and protection and not merely transactional in nature for buying, renewing and claim settlements. We are constantly innovating and adding promising features to the app that enrich the lives of our customers – with industry-first feature like FaceScan that enables tracking your health vitals, 24x7 doctor consultations, dieticians or consultations with mental health experts, pharmacy services, ambulance services and fitness related features to name a few. Our campaign therefore does justice to describing an app that literally has so many wow factors built in and the only one in the industry that is so comprehensive and unique. We are excited to partner again with Ogilvy for these films and are hopeful that the quirky ads will appeal to all in showcasing how the IL TakeCare app is not just an insurance app but a health and wellbeing one too.”

Ogilvy India executive creative directors Talha Bin Mohsin & Mahesh Parab said, “We felt a product offering as innovative and as useful as the IL Take Care App could really help people make a healthy lifestyle possible. The more people would find about it, the more people it would benefit. But to achieve this, we realised our campaign had to be equally captivating. So, we went back to the first feeling we had when we heard about these incredible features. They were simply out of the world. And that’s where we chose to base our entire campaign, out of this world, on Mars, and provided a working demonstration of how the IL Take Care App’s features can help everyone stay fit.”

The goal of ICICI Lombard's most recent marketing initiative is to draw attention to the extensive and all-encompassing capabilities of the IL TakeCare App to encourage both new and current users to use it and enjoy easy access to insurance and healthcare. The IL TakeCare app is a testament to the insurer’s dedication to giving its customers the best care possible over a long period with its superior and innovative services. The insurer has always been customer-centric, prioritising their needs from product offerings to its mobile apps. In addition, they have succeeded in doing so by using technology as the foundation of their business operations for many years. This new campaign is a continuation of their efforts to give their consumers excellent care and to strengthen the company's reputation as a technologically advanced business.

With the endeavour of constantly enhancing the wellness solution, we have added multiple industry-first features like FaceScan, mental wellbeing, IL Hello Doctor, chat with expert, water reminder, step up challenge and other health and wellness features. The app empowers customers to take control of their health journey through a host of innovative features. With a personalised health dashboard, users can easily track and manage their fitness activities, monitor health parameters, and set wellness goals. The app also offers seamless teleconsultation services, enabling users to connect with qualified doctors for medical advice and prescriptions from the comfort of their homes. IL TakeCare further promotes preventive healthcare by allowing users to schedule health check-ups and diagnostic tests conveniently. FaceScan allows users to check vitals. Fitness enthusiasts can access tailored exercise routines, while health-conscious individuals benefit from a wealth of health-related tips and articles from experts. Emergency assistance services and quick access to policy details provide users with added peace of mind. The customer can buy and renew heath and motor insurance and settle claims. ICICI Lombard's IL TakeCare app is a powerful tool that goes beyond traditional insurance offerings, fostering a proactive and holistic approach to health management, and nurturing a healthier and happier customer base.

Lombard, IL

After four decades, Paradoxx could be considered as esteemed senior statesmen in the Chicago metal scene. Brothers Glen (vocals) and John Dobbs (guitar), formed the band in their parent’s basement in Portage Park [Chiicago] in 1980. Along the way, they added bassist Frank Rotondo, Drummer Jerry Wiener, and guitarist Gary Vermette.

The band dominated the local metal scene in the ’80s (mixing NWOBHM and Thrash), playing sold-out shows from River Grove to Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. In 1985, (with a loan from Mom and Dad Dobbs), the band took to the acclaimed Sound Summit studio in Lake Geneva to record their debut EP (Plan of Attak). Released later that year, most copies of the EP (on Silver Fin Records) were never officially released to the public after some internal discord over the final product. Flash forward many years, the original pressing of the EP has become a hard-sought collector’s item in the metal underground. Original pressings have sold for over $4000 on eBay.

IE sat down with guitarist John Dobbs, to update us about the EP reissue. “This has been a plan for the band for many years, but several roadblocks were keeping it from coming to fruition. It was kind of humbling having sort of a bidding war with several overseas labels that were clamoring to get this deal. There have been unauthorized bootlegs over the years, so to finally get hooked up with No Remorse Records to have it released, leaving us in charge of the layout, liner notes, pictures, and more. It was really special. Chris Papadatos and the entire No Remorse staff were really easy to work with and did a great job on the entire release.”

While The Complete Works did finally come out in 2022, it was by far no easy task to get it done. “The process did take longer than I would have liked due to several bumps in the road, Dobbs told IE. “Just petty B.S. that really made it less interesting to even attempt. After that was removed, it really was an easy process. I’m glad it took a bit of time as well, so we could do it right by the fans worldwide who have stuck with us for over 40 years. We are very proud of what these punk kids from Chicago were able to accomplish. The original Plan of Attak EP is somewhat of a holy grail, so to speak, and to be able to recreate that and be able to add some lost gems to it well was very exciting for all the guys. We are very fortunate for sure.”

Plan of Attak: The Complete Worxx contains the original 1985 EP featuring four songs (“Don’t Let Go,” “Unleashed,” “Live Free or Die,” and “Black Siren”) As well as four other ’80s era songs that had appeared on various local compilations. Sadly, the one person not able to enjoy the EP reissue is co-founder Glen Dobbs, who passed away from cancer in 2016. The liner notes serve as a tribute to John’s brother.

Appearing at Brauerhouse, Lombard on Friday, April 7 with Cover Dogs and Vicious Circle.

BYRON, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Only the strongest of the strong are left in the IHSA football playoffs now that we’ve reached the semifinals. The Byron Tigers are one of those teams now in the final four in Class 3A. Saturday they’ll face a football program that has a gaudy tradition.

A sign on Byron’s campus says it all, 12 down, two to go. The 12-0 Tigers are right where they expected to be, in the state championship hunt. In some ways it feels like their season is just now starting.

“Yea, we’ve been looking forward to this all year,” said Byron all-state sophomore running back/linebacker Cadine Considine. We’ve been working hard ever since the summer really this has been a goal of ours, so it’s really nice to be here.”

In past seasons at this stage of the playoffs the Tigers had to deal with Elmhurst I-C Catholic. I-C Catholic got bumped up to 4A this year, but now the Tigers have to deal with Lombard Montini, a Chicago Catholic League powerhouse. The Broncos have played in the state championship game nine times. They’ve won six state championships at the higher levels of 4A, 5A and 6A.

Byron head coach Jeff Boyer says the Tigers are looking forward to playing a team with Montini’s pedigree.

“Absolutely, and I think our kids are ready for that. We were pretty young last year going into the I-C Catholic game, and it showed in that game in the semifinals, but a lot of these kids are back from last year’s team, and I think they’re ready for the challenge this year.”

“We know they have six state championships, so the tradition is definitely there,” said Considine. “We have that tradition as well, so I feel like, to me, it’s a good matchup.”

Byron has defeated every opponent this season by at least 36 points. The Tigers have scored the most playoff points of any remaining team in the playoffs at any level. This Saturday, the Tigers will likely be faced with a four-quarter game. All Big Northern Conference defensive lineman Josh Harris says the Tigers know the challenge that awaits them.

“I think this team that we’re playing against is well-coached, well-played. They’ve got some good players. I feel like they’re a very explosive offense. They’ve got a lot of fast kids.”

“They’re a spread team,” said Boyer. “They’ve got an all-state running back and then also an all-state slot receiver, so very explosive offense. They want to run the ball first, but they certainly can throw the ball as well.”

Get your popcorn for this one. It should be a show. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday in Lombard.

Yorktown Center in Lombard is continuing a major redevelopment with several new retail and restaurant additions, ranging from fast-food, to a self-pour taproom, to entertainment.

Dave & Busters, Tapville and Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen will each open locations at the mall in 2024 as part of the center's redevelopment plan, a press release said.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to close 2023 on a high note with the announcement that Dave & Buster’s, Tapville and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen will each be joining our retail lineup next year,” Yorktown Center’s general manager Josh Dean said in a release. “All of them benefit from strong brand appeal and consumer loyalty, and we are excited they chose to be part of the evolution currently underway at our property.”

According to the release, the retailers are part of a "transformational master plan" the Center and the Village of Lombard unveiled earlier this year for Lombard's former Carson's location, which will redevelop the anchor department store into a mixed-use development with more than 700 residential units as well as a park that will host events, concerts, pop-ups and more.

A19,000 square-foot Dave & Buster's will be located near Forever 21 and H&M and is expected to open in fall, the release states.

Tapville — a restaurant where customers can "self-pour" beer and cider from taps along a wall — is expected to open in early 2024, according to officials.

Popeye's is expected to open its location at the center in spring, the release added.

Also in the western suburbs, the Promenade at Bolingbrook has announced several new restaurants and retailers opening soon, including Kids Empire and Brazilian steakhouse Bullvino's.

In the northern suburbs, Old Orchard Westfield Mall is also set to add residential units as part of a "massive" redevelopment plan it announced in 2022.

The biggest cities in Illinois often grace the world's stage as popular travel destinations. For instance, travelers tend to adore the Millennium Park in the big city of Chicago or admire the beautiful grounds of Rockford's Anderson Japanese Gardens. It is worth noting however that the Prairie State offers amusement beyond Rockford and The Windy City; Illinois features many small towns, each with individual flair. Beyond the world-class museums and glinting skyscrapers, this Midwestern state is home to several towns with unique reputations, making for underrated and authentic sites!

Rock Island

A member of the Quad Cities (with Moline, East Moline, and Iowa's Davenport and Bettendorf), Rock Island is well-known for a number of things west of Chicago. The town is one of the National Football League's 8 original towns and the former home of the Sauk and Meskwaki tribes. History buffs may take a particular shine to Rock Island for its historic attractions.

Visit the Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse, formerly known as the Fort Armstrong Theatre, which the one of the only 2 dinner theaters still in operation in the US. It's located inside a historic building that opened in 1920, that's currently on the National Register of Historic Places. Rock Island's Broadway Historic District is also worth perusing, which is a Victorian neighborhood listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This area is made up of over 550 homes in Queen Anne, Italianate, and Colonial Revival Architecture, with its earliest homes dating back to 1865!

Batavia

Batavia is the oldest town in Kane County and was established in 1833, though its reputation as the county's "oldest town" is superseded by its status as a destination for windmill production.

Batavia earned its nickname, "The Windmill City," in the late 19th century when it was recognized as the world's leading windmill manufacturing destination. Three major windmill factories were so productive in Batavia that it earned the town its nickname that it still celebrates today. Today, the Batavia Riverwalk features several original Batavia-manufactured windmills which have all been purchased and renovated. The windmills include a plaque describing the history of its manufacturer and its model type.

Besides its history of windmills, Batavia also boasts its annual Windmill City Festival, the town's biggest summer carnival-like event since 1978. Windmill City also houses the Fermilab, the country's particle physics and acceleratory laboratory since 1967 which spans 6,800 acres and employs over 1,750 people.

Lombard

Twenty-one miles West of Chicago will land you into Lombard, a residential community with light manufacturing and services. Lombard's claim to fame is being the hometown of cartoonist Harold Gray, creator of Little Orphan Annie (who used his home in Lombard as inspiration). It also basks in its reputation as the "Lilac Village" in DuPage County!

Local Colonel William Plum—a telegrapher during the Civil War—collected over 200 varieties of lilacs from all corners of the globe. In 1927, he bequeathed his home and lilac gardens to the town as a park and public library, establishing the town's Lombard Park District, the Helen M. Plum Memorial Library, and Lilacia Park.

In the first two weeks of May, visitors flock to all 8.4 acres of Lilacia Park to celebrate the bloom of lilacs and other spring flowers, including 75,000 tulips. To conclude this world-famous horticultural event, the town hosts Lombard's Lilac Parade, which runs from Main Street to Maple.

Being several miles away from Chicago, Lombard makes for an easy day trip from the Windy City or the O'Hare International Airport (which is about 17 miles away).

Belvidere

Around 1835, European settlers settled along an area called Belvidere, a nickname derived from the Latin word that means "beautiful to see." Today, this North Central Illinois town—which is 75 miles away from downtown Chicago—in Boone Country thrives as an industrial community with vibrant farmlands, though it is also nicknamed "The City of Murals" for a reason.

In June 1997, Belvidere created ten murals in its downtown core during a "Wall Dog" festival, which won them the 1997 Governor's Art Award and its newfound nickname, Illinois' "City of Murals." Since their victory, locals embraced this name, culminating in the creation of additional indoor and outdoor murals throughout Belvidere's commercial and private spaces.

Those with a keen eye for art can spend a day in the City of Murals to satiate their artistic curiosities, checking out many of the murals along Belvidere's State to Hurlbut Street and east to Logan (though some murals can also be found around South State Street on First Street). Abstract sculptures and historic architecture are also sprawled across the town for visitor's viewing pleasure.

Arthur

Straddling the Douglas and Moultrie Counties and 10 miles west of Interstate 57 (off exit 203) will transport visitors to Arthur, an East Central Illinois town and "The Heart of Illinois Amish County." Since its establishment in 1865, Arthur's always been an Amish settlement and is currently home to over 2,000 Amish families and between 3,500 to 4,000 members of the Amish community. Currently, it's the largest Amish settlement in Illinois.

Honking cars and gridlock aren't typical sights here in Arthur—it's common to see horse-drawn Amish buggies share the road with their automobile counterparts. Adopt the town's motto—"You're only a stranger once"—and quickly discover the friendly atmosphere of Arthur. Sip coffee at a local cafe downtown or explore over 300 pumpkin varieties, squashes, and gourds from over 30 countries at The Great Pumpkin Patch.

Arthur welcomes visitors to explore its town and heritage, though they ask guests NOT to take photographs (or photographs depicting the likeness of) members of the Amish.

Metropolis

Unknowing travelers may dismiss Metropolis as another Illinois town along the border of Illinois and Kentucky on the Ohio River. Meanwhile, Metropolis remains a haven for passionate fans of America's most iconic superhero!

In January 1972, National Periodicals (D.C. Comics) crowned Metropolis as the adopted "Home of Superman." Through the decades, die-hard Superman fans ventured to this Massac County town to celebrate their beloved superhero.

Here, fans can discover the world's largest Superman collection at The Super Museum while taking selfies in front of the 15-foot Superman Statue at Market Street. The town also features displays of a giant kryptonite rock on the Corner of 3rd and Ferry Street and a 6-foot bronze statue of Lois Lane (portrayed by Noel Neill) in front of the Metropolis Planet Globe, the town's local newspaper. During the summers, the town opens its Superman-themed splash park next to the Globe!

Clark Kent's adopted hometown is not just chalked with Superman memorabilia; Metropolis is also home to over 800 slots at Harrah's Metropolitan Casino and the historic Fort Massac State Park and Museum. The town also boasts over 600 hotel rooms, 20 local restaurants, and 20 specialty shops!

Niles

Covering only six square miles and bordering the Windy City, Cook County's town of Niles is Pisa's sister city. This small town may not have a designated and official downtown core, but it houses a historic attraction unlike any other across the state: The Leaning Tower of Niles.

In 1932, Robert Ilg, a local businessman, wanted to build a recreational park for his employees, which consisted of twin swimming pools and cabanas. Robert built the Leaning Tower of Niles—a half-size replica of Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa—to cover the water tank for the pools. In 1996, the Ilg Family dedicated the tower to Niles. The tower was re-dedicated to the town after its restoration in 1997.

The Leaning Tower of Niles is a proud symbol of the local community and is surrounded by local shops and stores. The tower's striking resemblance to the Leaning Tower of Pisa isn't its only neat feature—every day, the tower chimes its historic bells for a few minutes during the hours of 9:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 6:00 PM, humming tunes like Red River Valley, On Top of Old Smokey, and My Favorite Things!

Casey

Casey's achievements are anything but small! The East Central Illinois town is famous for its collection of "World's Largest" and other larger-than-life objects, an idea birthed by local business owner, Jim Bolin.

Plenty of these objects are free to see and close to Casey's Main Street (Old National Road) intersection and Central Avenue (Illinois Route 49). Though many of the displays are outdoors, two objects—the World's Largest Crochet Hook and Knitting Needles and the Wooden Shoes—are installed indoors and viewable from the storefront windows at the Yarn Studio and Wildflour Bakery, respectively.

Conclusion

LOMBARD, Ill., March 8, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Westside Children's Therapy opened a multi-disciplinary clinic in Lombard.

The pediatric clinic is located at 400 E. 22nd Street, Suite A, Lombard, IL. The clinic is located across seconds away from Greek Islands Restaurant and across the street from Target.

Westside has been family owned and operated for more than 26 years with 28 different locations throughout the Chicago land area.

Westside - Lombard offers pediatric therapy services including, ABA Therapy, Occupational, Physical, Speech and Feeding, and Child and Family Counseling services. For kids in ABA, Westside offers three therapeutic school-readiness programs. IGNITE, for children ages 2-6; RISE, for children 5-8; and FOCUS is an afterschool program for older children.

Therapy at Westside is always 1:1. Even during group time, each child will have their own therapist guiding their session. This allows for social interaction, but also a therapist to guide each child and attend to their individual needs.

Westside therapists understand that two children may be working toward the same goal, but need different ways to reach them.

Every child has their own therapy program that is specialized for them. An evaluation — conducted before starting services — determines what is needed for the child and that is implemented along the way to reach their goals.

The clinic features a rockwall, crash pit, slides, ziplines, trampolines which are all used in helping children reach their therapeutic goals and have fun while doing it. This clinic space is special in that it has an outdoor space for therapy to be conducted at times.

Just outside the sensory gym is a spacious room for ABA therapy to take place.

LOMBARD, Ill. (WLS) -- A Lombard man who has been held captive by the Taliban for more than two years has been released after a prisoner swap.

Mark Frerichs, a Navy veteran, was in Afghanistan working as a civil engineer on construction projects when he was lured into a meeting where he was kidnapped in 2020.

Bashir Noorzai, a notorious drug lord and member of the Taliban, said he was returned to Kabul, in exchange for Frerichs being released.

Frerichs' family says he's currently undergoing a medical evaluation, and one of his first tastes of freedom was a long, hot shower.

"We're elated that he's finally got released. I mean, it's long overdue," said Art Frerichs, Mark's father. "I've had so many people praying for him and everything."

Frerichs' loved-ones never gave up. At an auto repair shop owned by Art, a sign to President Joe Biden speaks to the family's commitment. They've yet to speak with Frerichs on the phone, but he's said to be in generally good health at a U.S. base in Doha, Qatar.

"Mark is kind of a survivor, and I honestly thought somewhere along the line he'd come through," Art said.

Frerichs was last seen in a video earlier this year pleading to be reunited with his family.

Frerich's sister, Charlene Cakora, said in a statement, "I am so happy to hear that my brother is safe and on his way home to us. Our family has prayed for this each day of the more than 31 months he has been a hostage. We never gave up hope that he would survive and come home safely to us.

"We are grateful to President Biden, Secretary Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and Senators Duckworth and Durbin for their efforts to free Mark. Senator Duckworth got personally involved - advocating tirelessly within our government to get him home.

"My brother is alive and safe because President Biden took action. There were some folks arguing against the deal that brought Mark home, but President Biden did what was right. He saved the life of an innocent American veteran.

"We also want to thank the countless people at the State Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and National Security Council who worked diligently to support us and push other elements of the US Government to make Mark's safe return a priority. Ambassador Roger Carstens, the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, was personally involved after Mark was taken and his efforts to raise Mark's profile in both the Trump and Biden Administrations were important factors in today's result."

President Joe Biden said he spoke with Frerichs' sister to share the news of the release.

"Our priority now is to make sure Mark receives a healthy and safe return and is given the space and time he needs to transition back into society," Biden said.

Eric Lebson, a former national security official, who worked as a volunteer to advise Frerichs' family, said in a statement, "Everything about this case has been an uphill fight. Initially the Trump Administration gave away our leverage to get Mark home quickly by signing a peace accord with the Taliban without ever having asked them to return Mark first. Mark's family then had to navigate two Administrations, where many people viewed Mark's safe return as an impediment to their plans for Afghanistan.

"There was a small group of dedicated folks - both in government and outside - who worked hard to keep Mark's name in the news, created options, and helped get a decision in front of President Biden. Mark is free today because there are people who truly want to bring Americans home from hostage or wrongful detention abroad and President Biden has shown he is among that group.

"We hope that President Biden's actions are an indicator of his commitment to do the same on an urgent basis for other Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad. They are being held because they are Americans and they need the US Government to bring them home."

Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth also released statements Monday morning on the release of Frerichs.

"It's a profound relief that Mark Frerichs, a Navy Veteran who served our nation honorably, is now safely back in American hands after being kidnapped in Afghanistan more than two and a half years ago," said Duckworth. "I'm thrilled that his family, who have long been Mark's champions, will get to reunite with him. I applaud President Biden, who I spoke with personally about the need to get Mark home, for taking the steps necessary to prove that we do not leave Americans behind."

"I am deeply heartened by Mark's long overdue release and the relief it will bring to him and his family. The tragic and cruel use of him as a hostage has finally come to an end. I want to thank President Biden and his team for their tireless effort to secure Mark's release and regular engagement with us and his family along the way," said Durbin.

Frerichs is a graduate of Glenbard East High School. School officials said they are excited to learn of his release.

Frerichs' family says it could be two or three weeks before he's back in the U.S. He'll likely be transferred next to a U.S. base in Germany.
