Home Care In Winfield, IL

Home Care Winfield, IL

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Winfield Mounds gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Winfield, IL is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

The Always Best Care Difference

Since 1996, Always Best Care has provided non-medical in-home care for seniors to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle as they get older. We are proud to have helped more than 25,000 seniors maintain higher levels of dignity and respect. Unlike some senior care companies, we genuinely want to be included in our clients' lives. We believe that personalized care is always the better option over a "one size fits all" approach. To make sure our senior clients receive the best care possible, we pair them with compassionate caregivers who understand their unique needs. That way, they may provide care accordingly without compromising their wellbeing.

The Always Best Care difference lies in life's little moments - where compassionate care and trustworthy experience come together to help seniors live a fruitful, healthy life. Whether you are an aging adult that can't quite keep up with life's daily tasks or the child of a senior who needs regular in-home services, Always Best Care is here to help.

“I again want to compliment Shannon on her fine work as my uncle's caregiver. She truly came from above. Today is his 92nd Birthday and I can't be there, but she has made the day special for him with cake and small gifts. She also keeps close tabs on his failing health and coordinates his care excellently. She goes above and beyond what would be expected. I don't know Rihanna as well, but she, too, sounds like she cares for my uncle in a kind and positive way. My uncle can be demanding and cranky and they both do a good job maintaining an upbeat attitude. Last but not least, I appreciate Ana for juggling so many clients and caregivers, which in our own situation seem to change on a dime, yet she always comes through. Thanks again”

“I recently worked with Michelle Kramer at Always Best Care. I would recommend Michelle to anyone who is navigating Senior care for their loved one. Michelle is so knowledgeable as she has been in the industry for so long. She helped me to find places to move my dad, she knew all the answers to the hard questions that I had. Michelle was just amazing and I literally could not have moved my dad recently without her help. I also used their care facilities in July when I moved my dad to his first memory care facility to help him transition. Their caregivers were great and they were so flexible with the times that I needed someone with my dad.”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Winfield, IL?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Pier 19 Restaurant or visit Fredericksburg Town Historic Site, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Winfield, IL, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Home Care Winfield, IL

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your IL's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
Home Care Winfield, IL

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Winfield, IL understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Home Care Winfield, IL

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
Home Care Winfield, IL

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Ahva Care of Winfield
  • Silverado Senior Living
  • Bristol Catered Living - Covenant Living at Windsor Park

Are you making plans for a fulfilled summer and one with class, entertainment, golf and a military museum? Look no further because just 40 miles West of Chicago sits the historic and one of natures most breathtaking Cantigny Park located at 1 S, 151 Winfield Rd, in Wheaton, IL.

And if you’re thinking why would this trip be worth your time, Jeff Reiter, senior manager of Communications for the 58-year-old Cantigny Park, laid out his case. “We have a lot to do here for all ages and to satisfy a wide range of interests. Our gardens are spectacular and so is our military history museum, the First Division Museum. “The gardens and museum are our top two attractions,” said Reiter.

In describing the adjacent Cantigny Golf course, Reiter said, “It is a highly ranked public golf course, and it’s very popular, too.

Besides the Park’s permanent attractions, Reiter said there are many special events ranging from concerts, lectures, garden tours to festivals…a peaceful site for family gatherings.

Asked how and why the Park is being labeled as “user friendly,” Reiter explained that Cantigny Park recently underwent a six-year, $60 million renovation funded by the Chicago-based Robert R. McCormick Foundation which is Cantigny’s parent organization. The project is called the “Project New Leaf.”

The renovation included additional parking, new pathways, new (way-finding) signage, a new restroom building, more benches throughout the park and added lighting he said was needed to offer outdoor evening events.

“These enhancements are why we are able to expand our public programming this summer,” Reiter explained.

The park’s newest event is the Jazz/Wine Fest which will be held on Sunday, June 18th, 12 noon to 6 p.m., at 1s151 Winfield Rd., Wheaton, IL.

Two bands will be performing at two sections of the park but not simultaneously; however, no matter where you are, you’ll be able to hear them play, according to Reiter.

The featured headliner band will be the Basie Orchestra. Still performing sold-out concerts around the world was and still is William James “Count” Basie. The Count Basie Orchestra is directed by Scotty Barnhart. Reiter said the band has won 18 Grammy Awards and has played at every major jazz festival and concert in the world.

As an added treat, the band’s guest vocalist will be jazz legend Vanessa Rubin a Cleveland native who has a Bachelors Degree in journalism but she held fast to her love of music and became a great jazz singer. The Count Basie Band and Rubin will close out the Jazz and Wine Fest with a performance beginning at 4:45 p.m.

Tickets are $60 for for Jazz/Wine event and $40 for the Jazz-only event but no wine samples will be offered. Youth tickets (under 21) are $20.

You can save 20 percent on tickets through May 26th by using the code JAZZE when you checkout at Cantigny.org.

Four other notable acts will precede them. They are the Thaddeus Tukes Quartet, performing at 12 p.m. He is a graduate from Northwestern University.

Victor Garcia’s Latin Jazz Septet will perform at 1:30 p.m. He is a trumpeter from Chicago who in 2018 released his debut album, “The Grind/The Grove.” He has recorded on dozens of other albums with three of them Grammy-nominated.

The Frank Catalano Quartet will perform at 3 p.m. He is a world-class tenor saxophonist and a native Chicagoan who holds three Grammys. He has played with some of the greatest jazz greats like Miles Davis, Randy Brecker, David Sanborn and Jimmy Chamberlin.

The NewOrleans-style Big Shoulders Brass Band will perform at 4:15 p.m. promising to delight the audience with a Chicago form of jazzy Dixieland funk.

Voyage en France, is another new event and will be held on Sunday, July 16th, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for a special connection of the Park to France.

The park gates open at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 18th. Because seating is on the lawn, park officials recommend that you bring blankets and/or folding chairs. If you plan on eating, there will be a variety of food trucks on the park campus offering meal and snacks including beer and soft drinks. However, no outside alcohol or coolers will be allowed.

According to Reiter, Bertie’s Cafe is inside the Visitors Center offering sandwiches, hot dogs, snacks, ice cream, coffee and other drinks.

“Many people order their food to go and take it to the nearby picnic grounds,” said Reiter. The picnic area is shady and spacious and features the Red Oaks Farm playground which is another Project New Lead enhancement.

But, the park offers more than just entertainment. It includes a piece of history like the First Division Museum. “The exhibit is meant to be nostalgic for all the families and guests who have come to the park for generations, as well as a chance to share our deep connection to the First Division and its members,” said Jessica Waszak, assistant curator.

That connection begins with Colonel Robert R. McCormick, Cantigny’s benefactor, who served in the First Division during World War I. The museum honors his legacy and the service and sacrifice of all military veterans, telling their stories and the story of America’s military experience through the lens of the 1st Infantry Division or “Big Red One.”

The items in the “65 Years” exhibit, which opens Saturday, May 27th through Labor Day, represent the mundane and the momentous, from boots, helmets and cigarette lighters to heroic patches, medals, and flags. They depict the everyday lives of soldiers while commemorating the exceptional lives of service and sacrifice for our country, according to Waszak.

Some of the nearly 500 artifacts will be on public display for the first time. The objects are organized in 17 categories, with emphasis on soldiers’ personal stories. Underlying the exhibit is the trust that artifact donors extend to the First Division Museum as a repository of precious family memorabilia and narratives.

Cantigny Park will honor America, its veterans and those currently serving in the military. Armed Forces Day will be held on Saturday, May 20th, (free admission), Battle of Cantigny 105th anniversary, Sunday, May 28th, 1st Infantry Division birthday, Thursday, June 8th, “Stars and Stripes Family Night,” Wednesday, June 14th.

The Cantigny Park is adjacent to the 300 acre Cantigny 27 holes championship golf course that is surrounded by natures beautiful picturesque backdrop. The golf course is owned why the Robert R. McCormick Foundation and managed by KemperSports.

“Cantigny Golf has Fareways Grill which is a full-service restaurant with a full bar and a nice view of the golf course, said Reiter. “The park and golf course have separate entrances so it is necessary to drive from one to the other.”

However, Reiter made it clear that many people go to Fareways for lunch and dinner and not just a place for golfers. “Food trucks love to come to Cantigny, and we welcome them,” he said explaining there are usually two or three food trucks on site but on big days they range from nine or ten.

Other events include: Thursday, June 15th, “Summer Nights: Bark in the Park,” 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., Thursday, June 29th, “Summer Nights: A Magical Night in the Garden,” 6-9 p.m., Thursday, July 20th, “Summer Nights: Cocktails & Karaoke,” 6-9 p.m., Thursday, July 27th, “Summer Nights: Camp Cantigny Adult Summer Camp,” 6-9 p.m., Saturday, August 12th, “Glow in the Park,” a night of glow in the dark games, attractions and drinks, 7 p.m.-11:59 p.m., and Wednesday, August 16th, “Family Game Night,” 5:30-8 p.m.

Admission on every first Wednesday is free and onsite limited parking is $15 and offsite parking is $5.

A new hospital safety report has graded more than 100 hospitals in Illinois, leaving just one Chicago hospital with an "F" and seven others with a "D" grade.

The latest rankings from the Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit watchdog, analyzed nearly 3,000 general hospitals in the U.S. based on protection from things like medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

In Illinois, 113 hospitals were rated, with 30 hospitals receiving "A" grades, 25 scoring "B" grades and 50 others getting "C" grades. Seven state hospitals were given "D" grades and one hospital earned an "F" rating.

Hospitals are ranked based on the number of infections, problems with surgeries, safety issues, staffing and measures aimed at preventing errors.

The "F" was given to South Shore Hospital in Chicago.

The hospital did not respond to NBC Chicago's requests, but was given low marks in some infection categories, hospital falls, error prevention strategies, and staffing and communication.

South Shore CEO Leslie Rogers told the Chicago Tribune after stepping into a leadership role this summer, that the not-for-profit hospital was striving to have a "C" or better in the next ranking.

Meanwhile, more than half a dozen other facilities got "D" grades on the list.

That includes Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Javon Bae Hospital in Rockford, Roseland Community Hospital in Chicago, Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan and Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Weiss Hospital told NBC Chicago in a statement that its low ranking was "due to an increase in hospital acquired infections" during earlier reporting periods.

"Since then, we have improved our processes and expect future scores, specifically Fall, to reflect those improvements," a spokesperson said. "Patient safety is our highest priority, and our physicians and staff are fully committed to quality in our patient care activities."

Vista Health System said it "improved during this rating period and continuously focuses on safety, quality, and our patients’ experience" but noted that data used in its grade "is more than three years old in some cases and does not reflect the dedication and clinical performance of Vista’s physicians, nurses, and staff."

"Several national and state agencies acknowledge Vista’s commitment to quality and safety, including U.S. News and World Report, which recently recognized Vista as a high-performing hospital in stroke and COPD care for 2022-2023, and the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, which recognized Vista with a 'Get with The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus' achievement award with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll," the healthcare company said.

Advocate Aurora Health said it has a "robust plan in place to drive continued improvement in both safety and health outcomes for our patients."

"We firmly believe that meaningful quality and safety data should be transparent to the public. However, accurately measuring this data can be challenging, and some organizations use limited methodologies that don’t always reflect the quality of care or the varied factors that contribute to patient outcomes," the hospital system said in a statement.

NBC Chicago reached out to a number of other hospitals listed in the ranking but did not receive a response.

Some prominent Chicago-area hospitals were also among the "C" ratings on the list, including Northwestern Medicine's Lake Forest Hospital, University of Illinois Hospital and Health Science System, a number of OSF HealthCare facilities, Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago and more.

Northwestern Medicine said its Lake Forest Hospital "is committed to providing high quality, safe, patient-centered care."

"Our physicians, nurses and staff are driven by their dedication and passion for delivering outstanding care while always striving to do what is better for our patients," the hospital said in a statement. "We believe that quality and safety data should be meaningful, informative and transparent to the public. We appreciate the ongoing efforts by Leapfrog to improve the usefulness and accessibility of information for consumers."

OSF HealthCare said 10 of its 15 hospitals received a grade in the report, one of which was given an A and five others given B's.

In total, four were given a C rating.

“OSF supports transparency about quality and safety information such as that provided through the Leapfrog grades and is committed to finding ways to improve safety and quality of care. We are proud of the work our Mission Partners (employees) do every day and how they have faced the many challenges of the past two years," the healthcare company said in a statement.

Illinois ranked 28th in the U.S., with 26.5% of hospitals getting an "A" grade in the bi-annual report. In the spring, the state was listed at 27th.

Still, in the fall of 2021, only 18 state hospitals were listed with an "A" grade.

The top-ranked state on the list was New Hampshire, followed by Virginia, Utah, Colorado and Idaho.

A five-story apartment development, a $38.8 million medical office building and new commercial space have dramatically changed Winfield's small-town downtown in recent years.

In another sign of downtown growth, a Chicago-based developer has unveiled plans for a major residential project within walking distance of Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital.

Synergy Construction & Development aims to build a 147-unit, upscale apartment complex dubbed "Winfield Reserve" southeast of the intersection of Jewell Road and Church Street.

Village leaders say the project could provide yet another boost to downtown revitalization efforts. Largely stagnant areas of Winfield's Town Center, as the downtown core is officially known, have been recast as a medical and commercial district around Northwestern's hospital campus.

Synergy also developed the 162-unit apartment complex south of the railroad tracks along Winfield Road. The "Winfield Station" building opened to residents in 2021 on the former Winfield Fuel & Material Co. site, replacing what "was basically an eyesore," Village President Carl Sorgatz said.

"We added in well over 200 new residents, which, of course, is really important for being able to support our local businesses and being able to attract, which is what we're trying to do, new restaurants and retail in the Town Center area," Sorgatz said.

Synergy is now eyeing a 2.4-acre site - 0.7 acres of which is currently owned by Metra and 1.7 acres by Central DuPage Hospital - for its latest apartment proposal. Synergy and Northwestern have entered into a letter of intent for the sale and purchase of the hospital property for $2.5 million, contingent on the village's final approval of the development, officials say.

Sorgatz described it as a "really good location for additional multifamily housing." If fully completed, the apartment development would represent a roughly $50 million project, he said.

"We expect it to be able to help us bring those new businesses in," Sorgatz said Friday. "Our overall goal here is to make our Town Center a really walkable, desirable place for our residents to come to and go to the restaurants."

The hospital and the village publicly announced a Town Center revitalization plan in 2018. Village leaders have sought commuter-friendly, mixed-use residential and retail investment in a downtown area mostly populated with mom-and-pop businesses. The plan also responds to the demand for hospital parking and clinical space.

Earlier this year, Northwestern opened the three-story medical office building, with its herringbone stone facade, right across the street from the hospital.

As part of a development agreement with the village, Northwestern has set aside first-floor commercial and restaurant space in both the medical office building and a recently constructed, four-level parking deck west of the hospital.

The apartment complex would include a mix of studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. The development also would feature 6,000 square feet of indoor amenity space, a large outdoor area with a pool and an indoor parking garage.

"That's mainly really achievable because the property slopes down over 10 feet between Jewell Road and toward the railroad tracks, which are just to the south of the property line," Sorgatz said.

To facilitate the acquisition of the Metra property, village officials have negotiated an arrangement to swap ownership of commuter parking lots so that there's an "additional amount of acreage to make this particular project actually feasible for the developer," Sorgatz said.

Synergy is looking to demolish what's known as the Snyder office building to make way for the apartment complex.

"With a Metra stop and a major regional employer just down the street, this is a perfect location to attract residents. We're proud to bring a new jewel to Town Center and play a role in building its bright future," Synergy Principal Phil Domenico said in a statement.

The developer also is expected to request tax increment financing dollars due in part to high construction and borrowing costs. In a TIF district, as redevelopment boosts property values, the extra tax revenue that otherwise would go to taxing bodies such as schools and parks can be used to pay for improvements within its boundaries.

"It's going to be necessary to ensure that there's sufficient capital support, and to do that, TIF is going to be a key player in getting that done," Sorgatz said.

Synergy must complete preliminary design work and submit a village plan & zoning commission application, which triggers a public hearing. The developer hopes to break ground in August 2024.

For more than 40 years, Kathy Trimble, of Winfield, has been dedicated to the most vulnerable patients – children with complex care needs. In recognition of her contributions to the nursing profession, Trimble is being honored as the National Magnet Nurse of the YearÒ by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

A seasoned Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Trimble was honored in the category of Exemplary Professional Practice. She helped pioneer the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Program at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital. Colleagues and patients alike laud Trimble for her compassion, integrity, and wisdom.

“We have been continuously inspired by Kathy’s dedication to maintaining close, trusting bonds with every child and family member like they were her own,” said Laura Petrando, APRN, director, outpatient pediatrics, Lurie Children’s at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital. “Her genuine passion for treating the most complex and vulnerable patients is evident in the work she does every day.”

Stacy Lazzara, of South Elgin, met Trimble on the worst day of her life. Trimble was in the room with Stacy’s family in 2018 when they learned their then two-year-old daughter Averie had cancer.

“The diagnosis was devastating, but Kathy’s eyes were warm, her experience was evident, and the tone in her voice gave us hope that maybe, somehow, we could do this,” said Stacy Lazzara. “In the five years since then, Kathy has been many things to our family: a fearless leader, a compassionate friend, a steady hand, a warm embrace, even a summer camp counselor!”

Trimble was there to celebrate alongside the Lazzara family when Averie rang the bell in 2020 to mark the end of chemotherapy treatment. Today, she plays a key role in helping Averie and her family navigate long-term survivorship.

“Kathy is not just a fantastic nurse, she’s a fantastic person. We’re endlessly grateful to know her,” said Stacy.

In addition to her compassion, Trimble has played a critical role in enhancing quality and safe patient care. She developed and continues to lead a multidisciplinary Pediatric Oncology Quality Committee. One of her efforts involved leading the implementation of an electronic chemotherapy ordering system that allows for a personalized treatment plan using evidence-based protocols.

Thanks to Trimble’s collaboration with the Emergency Department through education and execution of an algorithmic approach, excellent outcomes have been maintained for patients presenting with presumed sepsis. Another crucial responsibility has been Trimble’s regular review of all adverse events, especially encompassing chemotherapy safety.

Additionally, Trimble committed herself to successfully educating every pediatric oncology nurse at Central DuPage Hospital in providing chemotherapy while championing equal access to treatment opportunities for patients. She sits on the Internal Review Board and was instrumental in the hospital’s journey to become a Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Affiliate Member institution.

“Kathy has always demonstrated our patient’s first mission and goes above and beyond to assure the patient receives holistic care throughout their journey,” said Suzanne T. McCoy, DNP, vice president and Flinn Family Chief Nursing Executive at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital. “This strong commitment to quality, safety and our patients makes Kathy a Magnet nurse!”

The National Magnet Nurse of the Year® awards recognize the outstanding contributions of clinical nurses in each of the five Magnet® Model components: Transformational Leadership; Structural Empowerment; Exemplary Professional Practice; New Knowledge, Innovations, and Improvements; and Empirical Outcomes. The Exemplary Professional Practice award is sponsored by EBSCO.

The award was presented during the 2023 co-located ANCC National Magnet Conference® and ANCC Pathway to Excellence Conference® in Chicago.

The new 19,000-square-foot, two-story, craftsman-style House is located at 0N150 Winfield Road, across the street from Central DuPage Hospital. In addition to families of children at CDH, the House will also support families of hospitalized children at the CDH Proton Center in Warrenville, Delnor Hospital in Geneva and other area hospitals.

"This is a great day for Ronald McDonald House Charities," said Doug Porter, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana (RMHC®-CNI). "This is our fifth home in the Chicagoland area and first in the Western suburbs. We are thrilled to provide a new place for families to stay and connect with others while they're living through some of life's most trying times.

Situated amongst beautifully landscaped walking paths, a reflection pond, and a wooded river basin in the oxbow of the DuPage River, the new Ronald McDonald House will be a comforting 'home away from home' for families in need. Designed by Antunovich Associates, the craftsman style House utilizes natural materials including wood siding, shingles and rustic stone as an extension of its surroundings. The design builds a hierarchy from the low porches, trellises and overhanging roofs upward to high roof peaks and fireplace chimneys.

The House includes 12 guest rooms, each with a private bathroom. Eight rooms feature two queen beds, while the remaining four are suites, with a queen bed, twin bed and pull-out couch. In total, the Ronald McDonald House near Central DuPage Hospital will accommodate 52 people, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

"Being separated from our newborn was excruciatingly painful," said former RMH guest Betsey Doebler. "We knew we needed to be with him in order to ensure he felt loved and safe, and that he received the best care. Ronald McDonald House made it possible, and we were able to be with our little guy every step of the way."

The House is outfitted in earthy tones of green, rust, red and berry, complementing the natural wood floors. Common areas include comfortable living spaces, a spacious dining and kitchen area, fitness center, game room, laundry facilities, an outdoor patio and even a unique putting green, courtesy of the Illinois PGA.

Keeping in mind their youngest guests, the House also features a walk-in toy closet sponsored by longtime supporter Coldwell Banker, where each child can select a toy upon arrival. Multiple play spaces and a game room will also provide hours of entertainment.

Other stand-out features include a whimsical art glass display in the vestibule depicting fond family memories such as rain boots splashing in puddles and a kite flying high from artist Rita Shimelfarb, and a donor wall, created by artist Chris Duh, which features backlit birdhouses with lighting that changes to reflect the time of day.

The $6.3 million project has been financed largely by support from the Cadence Health Foundation, the Cadence Health Auxiliary Board and the Topfer Family Foundation, as well as countless other donors.

The January 18th grand opening will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony and a balloon release with prominent guests including Val Warner, host of ABC's Windy City Live, Illinois State Senator, Michael Connelly, Northwestern Medicine West Region President Mike Vivoda, as well as Village President Erik Spande, Village of Winfield trustee's Jack Bajor and Tony Reyes and Western DuPage Chamber of Commerce members Dave Sabathne and Patricia Haskins. One very special family will also be in attendance—the Posts—who will be the first family to stay at the new Ronald McDonald House while their 17-month-old son Caleb, receives treatment for ependymoma at the CDH Proton Center.
