After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting Oak Forest Heritage Preserve in Oak Forest, IL gets harder without someone by their side. The Always Best Care Difference

Since 1996, Always Best Care has provided non-medical in-home care for seniors to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle as they get older. We are proud to have helped more than 25,000 seniors maintain higher levels of dignity and respect. We focus on providing seniors with the highest level of in-home care available so that they may live happily and independently.

Unlike some senior care companies, we genuinely want to be included in our clients' lives. We believe that personalized care is always the better option over a "one size fits all" approach. To make sure our senior clients receive the best care possible, we pair them with compassionate caregivers who understand their unique needs. That way, they may provide care accordingly without compromising their wellbeing.

The Always Best Care difference lies in life's little moments - where compassionate care and trustworthy experience come together to help seniors live a fruitful, healthy life. Whether you are an aging adult that can't quite keep up with life's daily tasks or the child of a senior who needs regular in-home services, Always Best Care is here to help.

“I again want to compliment Shannon on her fine work as my uncle's caregiver. She truly came from above. Today is his 92nd Birthday and I can't be there, but she has made the day special for him with cake and small gifts. She also keeps close tabs on his failing health and coordinates his care excellently. She goes above and beyond what would be expected. I don't know Rihanna as well, but she, too, sounds like she cares for my uncle in a kind and positive way. My uncle can be demanding and cranky and they both do a good job maintaining an upbeat attitude. Last but not least, I appreciate Ana for juggling so many clients and caregivers, which in our own situation seem to change on a dime, yet she always comes through. Thanks again”

“I recently worked with Michelle Kramer at Always Best Care. I would recommend Michelle to anyone who is navigating Senior care for their loved one. Michelle is so knowledgeable as she has been in the industry for so long. She helped me to find places to move my dad, she knew all the answers to the hard questions that I had. Michelle was just amazing and I literally could not have moved my dad recently without her help. I also used their care facilities in July when I moved my dad to his first memory care facility to help him transition. Their caregivers were great and they were so flexible with the times that I needed someone with my dad.”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Oak Forest, IL?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Jack Gibbons Gardens or visit Indian Village Site, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Oak Forest, IL, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Oak Forest, IL

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your IL's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
 Senior Care Oak Forest, IL

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Oak Forest, IL understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

 Respite Care Oak Forest, IL

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation

A nasty, highly contagious form of norovirus called “winter vomiting disease” is spreading across the country, including in Illinois, according to an analysis of wastewater at two surveillance sites in the state.

Norovirus cases typically spike after Christmas and New Year’s gatherings, but the number of new cases in November showed a notable increase, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.

The CDC tracks norovirus through voluntary reporting from clinics and state health departments, but says such data is unreliable because most people who get it are miserable for a few days, but don’t seek medical attention or require hospitalization.

The agency doesn’t monitor viral activity in wastewater; however, data from WastewaterSCAN, an academic program through Stanford University in partnership with Emory University, shows that norovirus has been rising nationally since mid-October.

In Illinois, monitoring sites in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn are tracking the virus. Wheaton saw a large increase in cases the week of Nov. 10, while Glen Ellyn saw a spike just before Thanksgiving. But the holidays could bring even more cases; last year, cases of norovirus spiked massively in both cities in early January.

There are about 2,500 reported norovirus outbreaks a year, according to the CDC. Some health experts worry that the variant GII.17, which was responsible for last year’s spike, may have mutated and become more contagious.

The GII.4 strain dominated norovirus outbreaks for more than 30 years, but last year, the GII.17 mutation was responsible for about 75 percent of outbreaks, according to the CDC.

Dr. Robert Atmar, professor in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, told NBC News there are two possibilities: Either the virus changed to make it more transmissible, or changes in the population made more people susceptible.

“And probably it’s a combination of both,” Atmar said. “But whether it’s going to persist this year, I think, is one of the big questions in our scientific community.”

Symptoms of the GII.17 strain include forceful vomiting, intense diarrhea and stomach cramps that are especially hard on children under 5, adults over 85, and those with underlying health conditions, according to the CDC. Dehydration is a primary risk.

Because GII.17 is a new strain, people have less built-up immunity and may experience more severe illnesses.

“When new strains emerge, people are exposed to a strain that they have not previously been exposed to, and hence are more likely to get infected,” Lee-Ann Jaykus, a professor in the Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences at North Carolina State University, told Newsweek.

“Historically, new strains emerge every seven to 10 years, and we were due for one, so this is not surprising,” Jaykus said.

Vigorous hand-washing with hot water and soap and other good hygiene practices are crucial to limit the spread of norovirus. It spreads easily, either through direct contact with someone who is sick, eating food or drinking liquids contaminated with the virus, touching contaminated surfaces, and poor hand-washing.

If you've been holding out on getting a REAL ID, it might cost you soon. Starting in February, the TSA will charge those without one a fee.

Illinois air travelers who haven’t yet gotten their REAL IDs will be charged a $45 fee beginning in February, according to an announcement Monday from the Transportation Security Administration.

The updated ID has been required since May, but passengers without it have so far been allowed to clear security with additional screening and a warning. The Department of Homeland Security says 94 percent of passengers are already compliant and that the new fee is intended to encourage travelers to obtain the ID.

To get a REAL ID in Illinois, you'll need identifying documents including a U.S. passport or birth certificate, a Social Security card or a W-2 form, two documents as proof of residency (utility bill, lease, or bank statement, something to verify your written signature (a credit or debit card, a canceled check, or a current Illinois driver's license or ID), and proof of name change where applicable. See the Illinois Secretary of State's website for the requirements and list of accepted documents.

REAL ID is a federally compliant state-issued license or identification card that meets enhanced requirements mandated in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. It was supposed to be rolled out in 2008, but the implementation had been repeatedly delayed.

Beginning Feb. 1, travelers 18 and older flying domestically without a REAL ID and who don’t have another accepted form of ID on them, such as a passport, will pay the non-refundable fee to verify their identity through TSA’s alternative "Confirm.ID" system.

TSA officials said that paying the fee does not guarantee verification, and travelers whose identities cannot be verified may be turned away. If approved, however, the verification covers a 10-day travel period.

The fee can be paid online before arriving at the airport. Travelers can also pay online at the airport before entering the security line, but officials said the process takes up to 30 minutes. The TSA initially proposed an $18 charge for passengers without a REAL ID, but officials said Monday they raised it after realizing the alternative identification program would cost more than anticipated.

Other acceptable forms of ID include military IDs, permanent resident cards and photo IDs from federally recognized tribal nations. TSA also accepts digital IDs through platforms such as Apple Wallet, Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet at more than 250 airports in the U.S.

OAK FOREST, IL — For the second year in a row, the Oak Forest Culver's location has been named among the top 5 in the country.

The location at 5410 W. 159th St. has earned recognition as a Gold Finalist in the annual Culver’s Crew Challenge, which will crown a winner in January 2026.

Nick Strache is the owner-operator of the Oak Forest Culver’s, which has established a strong culture of service excellence and guest satisfaction since its October 2023 opening. In that short time, the team has won over the hearts of their community on the way to its second Crew Challenge Finals appearance. It was previously recognized as a finalist in 2024.

In the Crew Challenge, restaurants compete in the areas of quality, service, cleanliness, hospitality, community outreach and team member training and development. The winner will be announced at Culver’s annual convention in Nashville in January 2026.

Each of the five finalists will receive prize money, with the winning team awarded $100,000 and the 4 others $25,000. Winnings are shared between the restaurant managers and team members.

Strache, who is a Midlothian native and 2014 graduate of Bremen High School, shared his pride for his business and team following a visit from Culver's Co-Founder Leah Culver and Culver Franchising System CEO Julie Fussner.

"There is a lot to be said about being top 5 two years in a row," Strache told Patch. "I think for starters, it truly shows how committed the team is here to truly make a difference for their community. After being top 5 and not bringing home a national championship (in 2025), this team had a fire in them to elevate the experience for our guests each and every day. They were truly up to the challenge."

Strache said his team focuses on going above and beyond for the customer.

"This team is truly led by young individuals that use the foundation that Culver's set to execute and exceed operational standards and Hospitality with heart," Strache said. "They truly believe that it costs nothing to be kind and have bought into the culture that this is a people business first, and we just happen to also serve great food."

The City of Oak Forest also lauded Strache and his Culver's location.

"The Oak Forest Culver's is basking in the limelight today as Nick and his team celebrate another Top 5 Culver’s Crew Challenge Award," they said, in a social media post sharing news of the co-founder's Dec. 2 visit. "… second year in a row! They will compete for the national champion title next month in Nashville! We're rooting for you!"

The Bremen D228 grad is excited for his team, selected among the top 5 of 1,000 Culver's locations in the country, and vying for $50K.

OAK FOREST, IL — Oak Forest Culver's owner Nick Strache basked in the moment a bit Thursday, but wasn't about to rest on his laurels just yet.

While Strache celebrated his location's finish in the top 5 of all 1,000 Culver's locations nationwide, he hasn't taken his eye off the ultimate prize—winning the Culver's Crew Challenge and earning $50,000 for his location.

Strache, who is a Midlothian native and 2014 graduate of Bremen High School, shared his pride for his business and team following a visit from Culver's CEO Rick Silva and co-founder Craig Culver.

"From the moment we started interviewing and hiring for this restaurant, I knew something special was brewing and in just 14 months this team earned top 5 gold finalist in just year 1!" Strache told Patch. "This is the first restaurant out of 1,000 to ever accomplish this feat in only their first year of being open!"

In the Crew Challenge, restaurants compete in the areas of quality, service, cleanliness, hospitality, community outreach and team member training and development. The winner will be announced at Culver’s annual convention in Dallas in early 2025.

"This community and this team strive every day to make a difference," Strache said. "People are everything at Culver's in Oak Forest."

Strache's dedication to the Oak Forest location at 5410 W. 159th St. has earned him fans and praise from the community since its the October 2023 opening.

"Nick, a proud Bremen High School grad, is really making an impact in the community." Bremen District 228 shared. "His team includes over 20 Oak Forest High School students, and he’s always involved in local fundraisers and events."

Strache is also nominated for Newcomer Mentee of the Year at Culver's, he told Patch. The designation is given to a new franchisee who excels in operational excellence, hospitality, and community involvement.

"From having over 20 Oak Forest High School students to having the best guests in the country right here at home," Strache said, "I’m forever grateful for the hard work my leadership team and crew has put in each and every day striving to make moments and create memories for those who walk in these doors."

The City of Oak Forest also applauded Strache.

"There was a lot to celebrate at the Oak Forest Culver’s this afternoon," the City said Thursday. "... Nick is a valuable member of our business community—employing 20 local high school students, giving back through various fundraisers, and participating in community events."

Strache said he's hopeful they'll win, but ultimately, proud of his team.

"It was a tough year, and hopefully we come home as national champions," Strache said, "but no matter what this restaurant will continue to be an anchor for this community and will continue to deliver that top 5 service."

OAK FOREST, IL — There was plenty of chatter around Oak Forest High School's varsity football team as they headed into their semifinal game Nov. 22—and not all of it was exactly optimistic.

Riding the high of a 12-1 season, Oak Forest had advanced to the 5A semifinal for the first time since 2008, but the foe they faced next was formidable: a private high school powerhouse with 10 state titles to its name. The Bengals were to play Providence Catholic High School.

"Outside of Oak Forest—the expectation was that they were going to put a running clock on us," said Oak Forest Football Head Coach Zach Sadek, referencing a rule used in which the game clock runs continuously if the point differential is 40 points or more in the second half.

"Somewhere between 29–34 points, was what was getting sent to me," Sadek said of the point deficit people expected. "We didn’t pay too much attention to it, because we never do."

Their focus was tight, and the sting of the lack of faith so many had in his team was dulled by the fervent support of a town inspired by their resilience and unity.

"It’s a big deal," said Athletic Director Matt Manzke. "It’s a huge deal. Any time your football team has a great season—when your football team’s doing well, I feel like the entire school is uplifted. There was a buzz in our school, especially as the weeks went on. We knew we’d be good, but the best part is, it reached out into the community.

“This accomplishment is huge for our school and our community. Our coaches and players have worked tirelessly — not just during the season, but throughout the offseason and summer — to reach this point. It’s not just about the high school; it’s about everyone in Oak Forest rallying together and taking pride in what this team has achieved.”

The buzz was intense as the team headed to New Lenox, where they would put up a what Sadek described as one hell of a fight against the Celtics.

"Mistakes had to be a limited capacity, so to speak," Sadek said. "I think in the first half, they scored, we fumbled, we were able to hold ‘em to 14."

Despite scoring three touchdowns in the second half, Oak Forest lost to heavily favored Celtics 31-21. But by public perception, it wasn't the walloping many had expected.

"Kudos to Providence," Sadek said. "There’s a reason they’ve won so many state championships, and they’re a really solid program.

"Kudos to our kids—at no point did they turn on each other, or give up. They fought as hard as they could until the end. No disappointment on our end, as a coaching staff. They did everything we asked them to do—we couldn’t be more proud."

Sadek and Manzke weren't surprised by the ferocity they had shown on the field—they had already seen it earlier this season. The Bengals’ only other loss this season came against Hillcrest, but Manzke emphasized that the setback became a turning point.

“The most satisfying thing for me is how our guys responded to that loss,” Manzke said previously. “They came back together, got better, and showed incredible maturity and leadership. That’s what great teams do.”

Sadek, who just became head coach in March, said it would be easy for people to attribute the team's success to his leadership. But they would be wrong, he said.

"These kids were building this before I got here," he said. "… I knew how good they were going to be. They put in the work, when there was an old coach, no coach, a new coach. Particularly the seniors— they’re such an unselfish group, they just wanted to win. The unselfish nature in which they approached things—it was about what do we need to do, to win week in and week out.

"Sometimes, you come up on the short side of it."

A coach at Bremen High School last year, Sadek saw that season end quite differently, with a record of 0-9. This year, he's realizing the pride in leading as head coach for the first time.

"I kept a lot of things that I never created," he said, of stepping into the pre-established program at Oak Forest. "When I go into my second year, it’ll be a little more, not putting my stamp on it, but you’re always trying to adjust, find ways to get better. That’s the biggest thing."

He gave a nod to those who came before him at Oak Forest.

"We have coaches that were holdovers, and even the guys who chose to go somewhere else, they helped build that foundation," Sadek said.

"It was, 'how do I take what’s working well, things I believe in, and how to implement those.'"

Sadek is quick to share the kudos with his staff.

"Staff that aren’t ego-driven," Sadek said. "There’s nobody that stands out and says, 'we have to do this this way.' All super-open to doing what’s best for kids, putting us in a position to win. If it was me standing out there by myself, we’d be 1-8. It’s the staff that really helped drive it."

Manzke, though, said Sadek needs to know how vital he has been in the team's success.

"Coach Sadek deserves a tremendous amount of credit for bringing these kids together," he said. "When things get chaotic, he’s level-headed, keeps the team grounded. He came in, he had to meet our players where they were, and he was able to take them to the semifinals.

"He’s a humble person, but he deserves a lot of credit for what we were able to do this year."

The community was invigorated by the team's historic run, Manzke said.

"It creates a great environment," he said. "Our football program does a great job working with the Oak Forest Raiders. You see these young kids looking up to the team, and that's something special.

"It was just a really great buzz for the school, and for Oak Forest in general."

With their win, Providence advanced to the IHSA Class 5A state championship game against Wheaton St. Francis. First set for Nov. 29, a weekend snowstorm forced the game's cancellation and rescheduling for Tuesday, Dec. 2. St. Francis pushed past Providence with a final drive. Providence fell, 35-39.

Sadek isn't dwelling on his team's loss—his head is up, eyes forward on what comes next. He has reminded his players to be thankful for those who have stood by them every step of the way.

"The people that are there for you when things aren’t going so well—those are the people you want to thank," he told them. "Success is going to bring people around. I thought it was important for them to understand—those people who were there, just in their general life, when things aren’t always great—for us, it was about staying inside of our group. We’re very dedicated to the idea of the process—winning and success, is a byproduct of focusing on the process.

"You have to take today’s energy and use it toward whatever you can, and just get better today. Just focusing on the process."

Manzke is proud of how the team capped the season, and for some, their high school careers.

"The truth of the matter is, these kids came in four years ago—majority of our kids, a lot of the kids playing are seniors," he said. "These seniors, they bought into our program, that’ve had their shares of ups and downs. I’m really proud o the way they represented our school and our community.

"They were just outstanding people to be around. They were great out in the community. They deserve everything that they’ve gotten, in the community and with the school."

He's eager to see how the program will build on the success. While Oak Forest High School pulls local kids by default, some might also opt to attend a private school. But there's something special about coming up in a sport alongside some of the same kids.

"I think obviously there’s certain advantages private schools have, but there’s a certain uniqueness that community schools have—kids that come up together and have playing together for a long time," Manzke said.

"The facilities are awesome, the people are tremendous. Having such a dedicated coaching staff, such a supportive community—those are things that make the decision of a junior high kid. And we’ve proven that we can be successful."

Sadek hopes the team knows how much he admires them.

"I’m sure that they heard about how little faith people outside of our community had in them for the game," Sadek said, "so for them to do what they did, is really incredible."

And Manzke thinks Sadek needs to bask in it a bit.

"He deserves a lot of credit for what he was able to do with these kids," he said. "It was just a fun ride."
