A new photo op

Owned by Trussville residents Anna and Mitchell Brown, the idea to create an event rental service called Oh Snap Bubble House came from insomnia and late-night TikTok scrolling.

“We saw people on TikTok in other states and even counties using [Bubble Houses] for unique photo setups and we noticed there was not one in our area. So, we decided to purchase one and bring a little joy to our town.”

How it works

While the Bubble House is inflated like a bounce house, you can’t jump in it. However, since air continuously inflates the Bubble House, balloons and decor float around inside—creating both a fun play space for kids and a fabulous photo op.

Fully inflated, the Bubble House is around 16 feet long by 10 feet wide by 9 feet tall.

It’s great for all sorts of events

A cool thing about the Oh Snap Bubble House is it can be used anywhere you want to capture an unforgettable moment.

Some ideas include:

“We think it would just be perfect with confetti flowing and your employees or guests grabbing for a ‘golden ticket’ at a corporate event, or just to bring a little joy to your office and liven things up!”

In a surprise vote on Tuesday, Darrell O’Quinn was elected by his colleagues as President of the Birmingham City Council.

Even O’Quinn, a veterinarian who has represented District 5 since 2017, was caught off guard. “I don’t know that I was fully prepared for this outcome,” O’Quinn said. “I was having a little difficulty concentrating after that went down. ‘Okay, what just happened?’

An earlier vote for council president resulted in a tie vote between Councilor Wardine Alexander (District 7), the incumbent president, and District 1 Councilor Clinton Woods. That resulted in a 4-4 stalemate with Carol Clarke abstaining.

Clarke then nominated O’Quinn as a third candidate and he received four votes, which with three candidates in the running was enough to give him the nod.

O’Quinn received votes from Clarke, Hunter Williams (District 2) , Valerie Abbott (District 3) and himself. “I have said all along that I’m willing to serve in whatever capacity my colleagues want me to and four colleagues, including myself, put me in that position (of City Council President),“ O’Quinn said. “Public service is exactly that – it involves a sacrifice. But this a sacrifice that is for the good of our community and I am proud to serve in that capacity.”

Alexander secured enough votes to be elected president pro tem, replacing Cystal Smitherman, with support from Councilors J. T. Moore (District 4), O’Quinn, Councilor LaTonya Tate (District 9), Clarke (District 8) and a vote for herself.

“I am excited to be in this particular role and to work with Dr. O’Quinn,” said Alexander. “I’m looking forward to his leadership. He’s a hard worker and dedicated person always looking at research and project management so that’s why I’m truly excited about this.“

O’Quinn, and Alexander, a former medical technologist, will serve through 2025.

Both said they look forward to working together to move the City of Birmingham forward.

In passing the council president baton, Alexander pledged a continued theme of unity and extended thanks to those who helped her in her role as former President of the Council and looked toward the future.

“Working together as a team, it’s going to be very exciting for members of the Council,” said Alexander. “This is going to great to work with Dr. O’Quinn, to transfer whatever knowledge I have and that we can work together with that.”

Wayne Rooney has been sacked as manager of Sky Bet Championship club Birmingham City.

The former Manchester United and England striker has overseen just two wins in 15 games following his controversial appointment at St Andrew's in October.

Supporters called for Rooney's removal as the side slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Leeds on New Year's Day.

Former Republic of Ireland coach John O'Shea will remain on the Birmingham staff for now at least, working under Steve Spooner, who will assume responsibility for their first-team on an interim basis. O'Shea joined the club alongside Rooney.

A club statement read: "Birmingham City has today parted company with manager Wayne Rooney and first-team coach Carl Robinson.

"Despite their best efforts, results have not met the expectations that were made clear at the outset.

"Therefore, the board feels that a change in management is in the best interests of the football club."

Chief executive Garry Cook said: "We are committed to doing what is necessary to bring success to St Andrew's.

"Unfortunately, Wayne's time with us did not go as planned and we have decided to move in a different direction.

"The search for a successor begins with immediate effect and we will update supporters when we have further news."

Blues - now 20th in the table - were sixth when Rooney was brought in by the club's new ownership group at the expense of popular former boss John Eustace.

Eustace had taken charge 15 months previously and successfully steered the club away from relegation.

A change of thinking at the club came last summer after a takeover by a company owned by American businessman Tom Wagner.

Rooney, who has previously managed at Derby and DC United, said in a statement: "Football is a results business - and I recognise they have not been at the level I wanted them to be.

"However, time is the most precious commodity a manager requires and I do not believe 13 weeks was sufficient to oversee the changes that were needed.

"Personally, it will take me some time to get over this setback. I have been involved in professional football, as either a player or manager, since I was 16.

"Now, I plan to take some time with my family as I prepare for the next opportunity in my journey as a manager."

The Birmingham City Council has new leadership after electing Darrell O'Quinn as president.

O’Quinn has been on the council since 2017.

“We have made it a priority of being a council that doesn't create a show,” O’Quinn told WVTM 13’s Mattie Davis. “I think everybody wants that to continue.”

O’Quinn led the council meeting for the first time Tuesday morning, which he said was a transition.

“I've got to get used to being in that routine, but I should be able to get up to speed pretty quick,” O’Quinn said.

As one of his first priorities, he hopes to bring the council closer together.

“Elections are not easy times for the council,” O’Quinn said. “My first priority is to sort of regroup so that we're all on the same page, we're speaking with one voice, and the expectations are clear.”

“Speaking with one voice, to the folks in Montgomery, and trying to get their assistance in moving Central Alabama forward,” O’Quinn said.

Some priorities he looks forward to supporting as president include infrastructure investment, housing, and job opportunities.

“It doesn't take a rocket scientist to come up with those sort of core priorities, but I think those are the things that create the pathway for a successful future for the city of Birmingham,” O’Quinn said.

Annabel Croft has been flooded with support over an "uh oh" update ahead of the BBC Strictly Come Dancing live arena tour. Annabel will be dancing with Graziano di Prima on the live arena tour as it kicks off in Birmingham this weekend - following Johannes Radebe's absence.

"Ready to hit the road," she wrote. "Going off on the Strictly tour today for 4 weeks and I can’t wait @strictlycomedancinglive - our first show is on Friday in Birmingham. Ive never been a light packer - this suitcase weighs a tonne."

The Wimbledon legend went on: "Uh oh… left the kids in charge of the house - yikes." Talking on ITV Lorrain previously, the former contestant said of not dancing with Johannes: "We're both sad about it, Johannes has his own tour so he's promoting his own show.

"I think it was too close to this tour and his body also needs a rest, I'm sure his brain too. He needs to recharge his batteries. I think he's probably sad he couldn't make it work but I hear that term, 'keep dancing', and I now realise what that is because I do want to keep dancing so when I got the opportunity to do the tour, I thought: 'Oh wow, how wonderful to keep going!' But of course, I would have loved to have been with him [Johannes]."

Talking about being paired with Graziano, Annabel said: "Graziano is a very good friend of Johannes, they know each other very well. Of course, I've met him, been around Graziano through the whole show so it'll be different but I'm hoping a lot of fun as well!"

Annabel was the tenth star eliminated from the series last year. She will be taking to the stage at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham from Friday.
