Home Care In Valley City, OH

Home Care Valley City, OH

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic The Heritage Center of Clark County - Clark County Historical Society and Museum gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Valley City, OH is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

“This was our first outreach for support - the first time Dad expressed an interest in support while I was out of town. I wasn't sure we could find anyone who would be able to provide care quickly enough, especially through a large organization like the VA (and) I was really nervous about the type of person who would be showing up at our house. Fortunately, the VA connected me to Rebecca at Always Best Care in Grafton who helped to push through the request with our VA connection (who was also awesome) and took the time to learn a LOT about what Dad's needs would be. She chose the perfect caregiver/aide for his Respite Care, and Jada was able to start the day I left on my trip. I can't say enough wonderful things about Jada. She took the time to read my notes on her first day... about Dad's situation, our home, the cats, and my suggestions about starting and finishing her 4 hours, etc. and she followed both the letter and the spirit of my/our request for assistance. She was on time, she communicated any urgent information with me (Dad had a minor fall before she arrived one day), she respected his wishes, his way of doing things, and held the line about medicine, hydration, meals, and other essential things. She gave Dad the confidence that she would be there everyday to help him and support him. We will be back the next time I travel, we will request Jada, and I cannot recommend ABC Grafton more highly. We were so unsure about what we were asking and now know where we can turn for the assistance we need. Thank you!!”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Valley City, OH?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Gandalf's Pub & Restaurant or visit Historic Roscoe Village, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Valley City, OH, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Valley City, OH

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your OH's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Valley City, OH understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Valley City, OH

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Valley City, OH

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Neff House
  • Transitional Living Centers
  • Arden Courts - ProMedica Memory Care Community (Parma)
  • A Place For Mom - Senior Living Advisor Brad Morckel
  • JOSHUA TREE Senior Living Campus
  • Assisted Living Locators of Akron

In yet another case of the O’Valley town panchayat attempting to violate Supreme Court orders which prohibit building infrastructure to benefit non-Adivasi residents, attempts were made early on Monday (November 27, 2023) morning by the panchayat to begin construction of a road between J.J. Nagar and Anna Nagar.

The project, which has been sanctioned at a cost of ?3.14 crores will benefit 10 small settlements in O’Valley, mostly inhabited by encroachers and settlers from Kerala, allege local activists who raised the issue with the district administration.

Earlier this month, more development work, including the construction of a park as well as another road between Periyashola and Mangamaram was stopped by the Revenue Divisional Officer (Gudalur), after he was informed of the work being undertaken. The Supreme Court had directed the Nilgiris district collector to ensure “that road, footpath, electricity line and other like facilities, now proposed to be provided to the tribal hamlets, are not made available to the illegal occupants of the janmam lands…”

Almost the entirety of O’Valley and its human habitations have been constructed on “unsettled” Section 17 lands, classified under the Gudalur Janman Estates (Abolition and Conversion into Ryotwari) Act. The area serves as a crucial elephant habitat and corridor, linking the Sathyamangalam-Mudumalai-Bandipur complex with Nilambur and New Amarambalam Wildlife Sanctuaries in Kerala. Over the last few years, negative human-elephant interactions in the region, which conservationists say are being exacerbated by an increasing number of encroachments, have led to the deaths of a number of people.

Conservationists say that due to the “unsettled” nature of the lands, encroachers continue to settle within O’Valley, building houses as well as farming large tracts of land, leading to the escalation of negative human-elephant interactions in the region and a constriction of the elephant corridor. They also say that poachers are increasingly using the area and are settling in O’Valley, with a number of poaching cases being detected by the Forest Department over the last few years.

When contacted, District Revenue Officer, Keerthi Priyadarshini, said that she had directed the local RDO, Mohammed Kuthurathulla, to inspect the site. “As it was found that the road will not benefit any Adivasi residents, orders have been issued to stop the work,” said Ms. Priyadarshini.

Mr. Kuthurathulla said that the O’Valley town panchayat’s Executive Officer has been directed to notify him before starting any infrastructure development works in the area in the future.

VALLEY CITY, Ohio — After having a career in medical sales, Brynne Moody says she's always had a passion for helping others.

But for years, she was looking for a way to show her creative side.

“At a young age, I really thought that being an entrepreneur or an inventor would have been out of my reach," Moody said.

When you add two kids and a full-time job, time is limited.

So, as a super busy working mom, Moody knows women need a free hand all of the time.

But what could she do to make women’s lives simpler?

She invented “The Caselet,” and it’s getting national recognition.

The hands-free fashionable cell phone case, designed for women on the go, is now being sold in dozens of Walmarts across the country.

“It’s been a six-year process to get there. There is a home equity line on this house to pay for this order to Walmart.”

It takes money to make a lot of money.

That’s one of the many reasons why the business development service, Jump Start, partners with start-up businesses like Moody’s.

Teleange Thomas from JumpStart says that for most entrepreneurs, that startup capital comes from your own pocket.

According to the nonprofit’s yearly economic impact report, they saw a rise in women-led companies formed in our region in 2022.

Despite the jump, the organization says the numbers show not many will see the fruits of their labor.

“The rule of thumb was about 50% of all businesses, you know fail within the first handful of a year. And then COVID added another dynamic on top of that”, Thomas said.

But a sentiment JumpStart and Moody share is that you don’t have to do it alone.

Moody says due to the help she’s received from friends and family, her dream is now a reality.

Mike’s surprise was her own salon -- KMS BeautyLab -- in the heart of Valley City, where the couple have lived for 24 years. A ribbon-cutting on Thursday (Nov. 4) marked the occasion, with the help of the Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance (NMCCA), area residents and businesspeople.

NMCCA Executive Director Debbie Boehmke learned that this was the first ribbon-cutting ceremony in the heart of Valley City in three years, making it even more special.

Sasha said she has worked in the salon business for a long time, and credited Santo for teaching her the ins and outs of the salon-spa business and encouraging her to expand her horizons.

The couple spent some time renovating the building at 6689 Center Road. Even a new sidewalk welcomes patrons.

The 900-square-foot salon is in a building with additional space for expansion, because Sasha would like to eventually have it become a complete day spa. There are now three stations, and Sasha said she is hiring stylists.

She noted that since KMS BeautyLab’s soft opening in September, “I never thought we’d be this busy!” The KMS in the name is for the first names of the owners and their son.

Traffic didn’t come to an official stop during the ribbon-cutting, but it drew a lot of attention to the new business.

Hours now are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays.

“I’m so excited and so grateful for the positive feedback we’ve already received,” Sasha said. “And I’m so grateful to Mike for the wonderful surprise birthday gift.”

Meanwhile, just down the road in Brunswick …

Brunswick residents Jenn and Tim Lang also opened their new business at 3511 Center Road on Oct. 29. The couple believe that every day should start with coffee and end with wine, and they are excited to give others the opportunity to indulge in them both at The Tangled Vine.

The new shop encompasses an inviting and relaxing environment to learn more about coffee and wines from all around the world. Whether you know everything about wine and coffee, nothing about them or somewhere in between, the staff is there to help you learn all about it.

In addition to the array of beverages, patrons can enjoy a few small plates with their wine, such as caprese, charcuterie and hummus. They are also welcome to bring in their own food to enjoy.

Of course, there are sweets: Zari’s CakeZ provides an assortment of fresh pastries and baked sweets daily that staff will help you perfectly pair with your beverage.

Several special events are coming soon, including a Thanksgiving Pie and Wine Pairing from 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 23. The $35 ticket offers Apple Pie and Sweet Champagne, Pumpkin Pie and a Tawny Port, Cheesecake and a Gewrtraminer/Riesling fusion, and Pecan Pie and Beaujolais.

And something the younger members of the family can enjoy, from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 27: Hot Cocoa and Cookies with Santa. For the $10 ticket, kids will receive a cup of hot cocoa, a cookie and a craft. Adults can spend time taking their own pictures with Santa. And the jolly old elf will read a Christmas story.

The Public Service Commission of West Virginia will hold public comment and evidentiary hearings January 11, 2024, to determine whether the City of Paden City and Paden City Municipal Water Works (collectively, the City) is a distressed or failing utility.

The evidentiary hearing begins at 10 a.m. at the Paden City Municipal Building, 208 W. Main, Paden City. The Commission holds a public comment hearing that same day at the same location, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Commission opened proceedings on November 3 into complaints about the City’s water and sewer systems. In its hearing order, the Commission named New Martinsville, Sistersville and Tyler County Public Service District as utilities that could assume operation or ownership of the City, if necessary.

The preliminary investigation revealed that for years residents have dealt with contaminated water from a chemical called Tetrachloroethylene or PCE that is commonly used in dry cleaning.

The City filed a response on November 20 that it is a not a distressed utility and is not in “continual violation” of statutory or regulatory standards. It also said it took proper steps to remove PCE from its distribution system.

Both systems serve customers in Wetzel and Tyler counties. The City of Paden City is a municipal utility that provides service to 1,262 sewer customers; and Paden City Municipal Water Works provides water service to 1,204 customers.

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — Where some see chipped paint, others see rustic maturity.

That’s the story of 2243 Chapline Street, an 1800s Center Wheeling home which shows its age both in its dust and its architectural beauty.

The latter is what drew the McGregor family of California to make it their own during the pandemic.

Both to return to where their family roots are, and to have a place to go away from the constant sun.

“Lots of people here go down to Florida in the winter. Well, you know, we live somewhere warm, so we’ll come here in the summer and enjoy the rainstorms.”

Russ McGregor, Owner

But they have another more long-term goal in mind: restore the unoccupied house to Victorian brilliance 140 years later.

Over three years they’ve consulted restoration experts to free the stairs, the brick, the capitals and much more from the ravages of time, while turning back the clock to the house’s earliest days.

Ellery McGregor even took a plaster class at West Virginia Northern to avoid putting up drywall–all in order to preserve the craftsmanship of the past.

“It’s fascinating the way things that were built 150 years ago can be saved and restored and can continue to function for another 100 years. Whereas I think a lot of things made today don’t last nearly as long, aren’t nearly as high quality.”

Ellery McGregor, Helping renovate Chapline House

While balancing full-time jobs and a major renovation project isn’t easy, they hope the finished product won’t just be theirs to enjoy.

The McGregors are considering making it a bed and breakfast for others exploring Wheeling and its charms from out of town.

They call it a tribute to the Friendly City and its uniquely West Virginia brand of hospitality.

“It’s just been everything that we imagined and more. We’ve totally fallen in love with Wheeling and we love to bring friends of ours to come and visit and show them what we have seen here and what we’ve been involved in.”

Madolyn McGregor, Owner

And write another chapter in the story of a house that has generations of tales to tell.

VALLEY CITY, Ohio -- Following somewhat of a stop-gap in 2020, the Valley City Frog Jump Festival will return Sunday (July 25) for its 60th annual event, live and in person at Mill Stream Park, 1200 Maple St.

“Last year was our 59th year and we didn’t want to break the string,” Valley City Community Group President Dave Smallwood said of the COVID-19 truncated frog jump last year.

“In a typical year, we will have 700 to 800 people signed up to jump frogs. Last year’s virtual event had about 40 or 50 people.”

Still, Smallwood said, participants who submitted frog jump videos from their front yards and driveways got into the spirit in a variety of unique ways.

“We had prizes for best costume and longest and shortest jump; people got out their tape measures and yardsticks,” he said. “But we couldn’t do it exactly like we normally do. (With the virtual event) we wanted to have the ability to keep people talking about it. We just wanted to keep it going.”

Smallwood said that excitement has been palpable for this year’s event, where 30 to 40 flights of frogs -- with 20 jumps each -- will again face off “down to the end.”

“People are eager to get out,” he said, noting that the 60th annual Frog Jump Festival will include a petting zoo, expanded kids’ games and activities, more jump houses than ever before and expanded food offerings from nearly 50 vendors.

Smallwood added that this year’s event -- which kicks off at 11 a.m. -- will also place more focus on the history of the frog jump.

Inspired by Mark Twain’s classic “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,” the festival saw 132 frogs jump at its inaugural event in 1961, which itself was part of Valley City’s 150th anniversary celebration. By 1964, the festival had gained so much popularity that it was named Ohio’s official State Frog Jumping Championship by then-Ohio Gov. James Rhodes.

“We still have charter members who go back to the beginning,” Smallwood said. “It is a great community event, and people come from out of state and from all over Ohio. We are just excited to be back.”
