Home Care Buckner, KY

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Waveland State Historic Site gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. “I discussed my husband's balance problem with several senior care agencies and the agency I was most impressed with was Always Best Care. The people they have working for them are kind and considerate. They go the extra mile to help their client remain mentally alert and physically independent. They give their client just enough help so that the client feels safe and secure but not helpless. My husband had to go to Forest Spring's Health Campus because of a fall he had at home. Because of his injury, he needed 24/7 care. I called Dan Chitwood and within an hour he had his employees helping my husband. My husband has made a complete recovery from the injury but he still needs help with a balance issue. A physical therapist comes to his home and Dan's employee helps him work on the physical therapy exercises recommended for him. My husband and I have been married for 57 years and with Dan Chitwood's employees help, who knows maybe we will make it another 57 years.”

“Dan Chitwood and his staff of experienced caregivers have been taking care of my dad who has alzheimers for about three years. The caregivers took care of cooking, personal care and did light housekeeping. They took him shopping with them for weekly groceries, took him to doctor visits and on outings to the neighborhood parks. The few times that a care giver would call in sick, if Dan couldn't fill the shift he would come work the shift himself. Dan Chitwood takes pride in offering quality care for his clients and we highly recommend Always Best Care. Many thanks to you Dan and your staff, especially to Debbie who was my dad's main care giver. Mark Stevens”

“Always Best Care (ABC) is truly the BEST! My father has Alzheimer's Disease and requires 24/7 care. I live 800 miles away, so it is very difficult for me to manage his care. ABC provides peace of mind for me knowing that they will call when there are concerns or changes with my dad so that I am always in the loop with his care. ABC has NEVER once not covered a shift if there was a schedule change, etc. ABC provides personal cares, meal preps, homemaking, transportation, medication reminders, you name it they cover it. Always Best Care is privately owned so there is a close connection with the owner Dan Chitwood 24/7 if necessary. Mr. Chitwood is actively involved with my dad and makes frequent visits to my dad's home and my dad loves him!! He treats my dad like family where his care is concerned. I am a retired RN and worked in home health for many years. I have never seen anything like this!! Always Best Care is THE BEST! Thank you ABC for loving my dad!”

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Delizie Italiane or visit Lincoln Birthplace Memorial, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Buckner, KY, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your KY's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Buckner, KY understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Buckner, KY

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Buckner, KY

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A small gesture can go a long way, and that’s what one Lexington woman is doing right outside her home to help those in need.

Just off Alexandria Drive sits a little red box near the cardinal valley neighborhood and resident Cynthia Buckner uses her “Little Red Blessing Food Box” to help those who are struggling to get food and other items they may need.

Buckner is making the world a better place, one can at a time just off her driveway.

“This is my calling. I’ve always been a person from a little girl on up to where I am now. My mom raised me to be a giving person,” Buckner said.

Buckner got the idea of the “Little Red Blessing Food Box” during the COVID-19 pandemic when many people were struggling to work and feed their families. The whole community helped pitch in to build the box and fill it.

“You know, it was mainly started with that, is to be able to let you know the kids when we’re home at school, during covid, they can come up here and get anything and it was just mainly to reach out to my whole community,” said Buckner. “My pastor said one Sunday, how much does the wood cost and I gave it a calculation. She said, here, here’s the money go buy the wood and go ahead and build “little red blessing box” and make your dream come true.”

Now off Alexandria Drive people can take what they need and leave what they can.

“Everybody is welcome here because like I said before, if I’m hungry, I come down here and I get food out of the “little red blessing food box”. I have a lot of homeless people that have met that has come and we prayed, and they have helped with the pavement and the flowerbeds. They helped me put it all together and people just give back,” Buckner said.

Buckner said right before she left for church the box was running short on food but when she came back it was full.

“I was telling my friend Nicole. I said, see, God is so good. I said, I wasn’t worried about it, because the community always keeps this box full,” Buckner said.

Not only does the box hold cans and other items but Buckner also has a freezer full of chicken, milk, and other frozen items. she also goes to cardinal valley park every Sunday and gets free vegetables to add to her box, but this Sunday was a little more special for her.

“I know my dad, this is Father’s Day, so I know my dad is up in heaven shining down on me.”

Every time Buckner goes to add food to the box or clean it, she sings a little tune she came up with.

“Keep on blessing the neighborhood, little red blessing food box. Keep on blessing the neighborhood,” Buckner would sing.

One little feature on the box is the chimney, it holds bags to help carry any items you may take.

Buckner said her goal is to finish making it a nonprofit organization and have six to eight boxes all around Lexington to bless other communities. If you would like to help donate any items or are in need you can head over to 1239 Alexandria Dr. where you can find the “Little Red Blessing Food Box”.

In light of one teacher's tragedy, students and staff at Hite Elementary made it clear Friday, they're all in this together.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — They stepped off the bus layered in red, from t-shirts to hoodies and winter hats down to festive red headbands. Students wore the color proudly, and with purpose, for this was no ordinary Friday at Hite Elementary School.

Bridgett Buckner has taught second grade at the Jefferson County school for the last four years. She too, came to class wearing red, with her husband, Josh at her side. They recently lost their 4-year-old son, Colt, on October 6.

"Walking through the doors my first day back, it was tough. I didn't want to come back, because I have a lot of memories of him here," Bridgett said.

Since losing her son, her students and everyone inside Hite have made it clear - she's not in this alone.

"This was a time when no one knew what to do," Dr. Sheri Barnett, Hite's principal, said. "When to reach out, what do you say, how do you help? And there's no right answer."

But on Dec. 9, everyone at the school wore red for Colt.

"Red was Colt's favorite color. Everything he colored, was red. No matter what it was," Bridget told her class.

It's been two agonizing months without him. It started with a fever, followed by stomach pains and multiple trips to the pediatrician. First believed to be a viral infection, then possibly Appendicitis.

"We were told from the beginning, 'it's just a virus. It'll pass.' It can be just a virus that will pass, but it can also be so much more than that," Bridgett said.

It took a full week before doctors diagnosed Colt with Adenovirus, a common virus with mild cold- or flu-like symptoms. But in Colt's case, too much time had passed, and the illness had damaged his liver.

"They stat-flighted him to Cincinnati Children's," Bridgett said. "I'm forever grateful for those doctors, because they did everything they could."

He was immediately put on antiviral medications, but Bridgett said, by that point, it was too late.

"My advice to parents would be to know your children better than any doctor knows your child. Don't be afraid to get a second opinion and advocate for your child the best you can," Josh said. "We need to be able to prevent this from happening to another kid and another family."

Friday, as the Buckners navigate a world without their son and all the what-ifs, their Hite family is surrounding them with love.

"I can't say enough thanks to Principal Barnett for easing Bridgett back into school during such a hard time," Josh said.

Both Barnett and the school's counselor spent the last few weeks visiting with every class, reminding students of ways they can be kind to anyone in a tough position, and how to react to a teacher if they see her crying.

"This group of people, we share this moment with her and we're going to be here continuously and unconditionally," Principal Barnett said.

And on top of the sea of red...a toy drive in Colt's honor.

Friday's classes ended on a high note with the results of a toy drive in Colt's honor. More than 730 gifts will soon head to kids spending the holidays at Cincinnati Children's.

"I am blown away by how many toys kids are bringing in," Bridgett said.

Hite's principal said the school's also taken this opportunity to work with JCPS on ways to better the district's policies and protocols for staff bereavement.

"Colt was always a happy, smiling, positive kid. We're trying to bring that to some children who might not have that in tough times," Josh said.

A new exit on Interstate 71 in Oldham County between Buckner and La Grange is in the works.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is designing a project to build an interchange between the Ky. 393 exit near Buckner and the Ky. 53 exit in La Grange.

The interchange would be at mile marker 20.6 and connect the interstate to Commerce Parkway, according to the transportation cabinet.

“The existing interchanges, especially Ky. 53, are congested during peak commuter periods, experiencing ramp backups and above average crash rates,” according to the transportation cabinet.

Preliminary design work and environmental studies have started and should be completed during this summer, officials said.

According to a tentative schedule, the state will begin to accept construction bids in June 2020.

The transportation cabinet is considering four options for the interchange.

Alternative 1 – standard diamond

This first option would create a standard diamond layout, with four ramps that allow traffic to exit and enter I-71 at relatively high speeds, according to KYTC.

This option would require that Commerce Parkway, which is just north of the proposed interchange, be realigned to meet Federal Highway Administration access spacing requirements, according to KYTC.

New Moody Lane, located south of the interchange, would also need to be shifted.

Alternative 2 – partial cloverleaf

The partial cloverleaf layout is designed to avoid property impacts to an adjacent neighborhood.

The southbound I-71 ramps would connect to Commerce Parkway.

Access to New Moody Lane would shift to two roads, Eden Parkway and Peak Road, that will be built in the future.

Alternative 3 – compressed diamond

The compressed diamond layout is similar to the standard diamond option except the ramps are closer to the interstate.

New Moody Lane would shift south, but Commerce Parkway would remain in its current location.

Alternative 4 – hybrid configuration

This final option combines the partial cloverleaf option for northbound ramps with the compressed diamond layout for the southbound ramps.

New Moody Lane traffic would shift to the future Eden Parkway or Peak Road.

How to weigh in on the project

The public is also invited to weigh in on the project and design options by completing an online survey at qk4.typeform.com/to/K6kprN.

In Oldham County, growth brings a grocery store.

The quickly developing county is getting its second Kroger store, and this one will have one of the only 20-pump gas stations in the state.

Cincinnati-based Kroger currently has a store in La Grange, but officials said that site – in the Cherrywood Crossing shopping center just off Interstate 71 at Exit 22 – isn't convenient for some residents. So officials are planning a new location in Buckner, off Exit 18, closer to Louisville.

The store will open in late 2023, officials said.

“We really see this as an area that needs a location a little bit closer to some of the folks that live here,” Erin Grant, corporate affairs manager for Kroger, said at a ceremonial groundbreaking Wednesday. “It’s a growing area and a perfect location right off the highway to be convenient for drivers.”

Though it was speculated this location would be a Kroger Marketplace, Grant said it would not be as big as a marketplace but still would have just over 100,000 square feet.

There will also be a new prototype fuel station, said Ann Reed, the company's Louisville division president. The fuel station will include 20 gas pumps with a small kiosk where people can go inside to buy some groceries.

“We’re going to give a fresh, high-quality experience to the residents here,” she said, adding that the 20-pump station was Kroger's first in the commonwealth.

The county is the seventh-fastest growing in the state, according to 2020 census data. It grew 12.1% over the previous decade to 67,607 people, the data shows, and its proximity northeast of Louisville bodes well for further growth.

Other industries are seeing that trend, too. Baptist Health announced this month that it plans to open a facility in Clore Station, a commercial and residential space that is under development off Exit 14, because of the county's growth.

In Buckner, Reed said Kroger plans to hire 250 to 300 employees for its new site. This, along with the construction work necessary after the $20 million investment from Kroger, will bring more business into the city of roughly 5,500 people.

“It would be nice to see this whole exit get a bit more developed to offer more services for our community,” Reed said.

Gov. Andy Beshear said at the groundbreaking that the state expects "significant economic development right here."

“This is going to be an anchor for this community.”

AUGUSTA, Ky. — The best bourbon in the world is made by a distillery 45 minutes from Cincinnati.

Augusta Distillery, still in its relative infancy in the bourbon world, won the coveted award for its Buckner's 13 Year Bourbon at the highly regarded San Francisco Spirits Competition.

The founders of the distillery say they aren't just interested in making fine bourbons, but in lifting up the community where they were established and doing for it what wine did for Napa Valley, California.

"It's just a really beautiful place to be," said Lalani Bates, one of the founders of Augusta Distillery and owner of the Beehive Augusta Tavern.

Bates lives in Augusta and said the community members deserve any good things that come their way.

The picturesque, riverside community also boasts a boutique hotel called the Augusta Guest House and now an old button factory will be the 50,000 square foot home of the Augusta Distillery.

"It will continue to be a manufacturing site," says Judd Weis, another Distillery founder. "We're just moving from buttons to bourbon."

Just with the restaurant established, the city's mayor said the number of visitors to the Kentucky town has jumped dramatically.

The massive renovations to the distillery building will adapt the factory to the needs of creating bourbon. Two 3,000-gallon cookers will be installed in the next few months along with 18 fermenters. The goal is to be distilling in the building by January 2024.

Every corner of the building has pieces of Augusta's history, something the owners are keeping in mind as much as possible considering, Weis said, "Augusta, the community, is the inspiration for our brand." In fact, he said they called it the Augusta Distillery as an honor to the city. The award-winning bourbon is named for Philip Buckner who founded the city.

Down the street at the Beehive Tavern, Bates said it was important to give back to the community.

"(It's) given us so much," she said. "It's just special here."

Around the corner is the Augusta Guest House. Locally owned and operated by another of the distillery's founders, its glamorous, comfortable interiors and homemade cookies welcome guests. The founders say with the Guest House up and running, Augusta now has places to visit, eat and stay, creating an ecosystem for success.

When asked if bourbon can really make Augusta a destination, COO Ryan Edwards offers, "Why can't it? It's in Kentucky — 95% of the world's bourbon is made here. We've got the world's best bourbon here in town. (It's) 45 minutes from Cincinnati. Why can't it?"
