EAST HAVEN, CT — The owners of the former Seasons wedding and event facility at 990 Foxon Road are proposing a redevelopment of the site, which would bring Starbucks, Five Guys and Chipotle to the site, Hearst Connecticut reported.
Other proposed uses include a self-storage facility and office space, Hearst CT reported. The application will be discussed at a land-use meeting next week. (Read more about the plans at Hearst CT).
According to the Seasons website, it states that it was a "wedding and event venue with more than five decades of service."
Its origins began in 1959 as a restaurant and then was transformed by James Esposito in 1980 into a wedding and events space, the website states. The former wedding venue used to employ bridal consultants, and the space included a cocktail lounge, and two fireplaces. You can read more about the history of Seasons by clicking here.
The Planning and Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing on Nov. 21 concerning the proposal. According to the meeting agenda, it states, "An Application for a Site Plan Review to redevelop a commercial property proposing the replacement of an existing banquet facility with a self-storage building and three commercial buildings."
The meeting will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at East Haven Senior Center, 91 Taylor Ave.

EAST HAVEN — The first half of the East Haven co-op boys hockey team’s season featured a couple of overtime wins, a few easy wins, maybe one or two “whew” wins, and no losses.
It opened the second half with arguably its first “wait, what?” win.
Two of the last three unbeaten teams in the state walked into DiLungo Rink early Monday afternoon. East Haven walked out with an 8-1 victory over Westhill/Stamford. The win was no shock; the ease was.
The Yellowjackets are 11-0, and what stands out to senior forward John D’Albero is “just how amazing the team is in the locker room. We’re always looking toward the end goal, a state championship.
“It’s a different atmosphere than it has been the past couple of years,” he added. “It feels really good to have that kind of atmosphere in the locker room.”
East Haven, ranked 10th in the GameTimeCT Top 10 Poll, has played only three games that finished closer than a three-goal margin. Monday was a four-goal game after one period.
“The chemistry came together nice and early,” East Haven coach Lou Pane said, referring to the start of the season. That chemistry wasn’t necessarily a given, he said, with the addition of what was left of Sheehan’s roster to the co-op.
“Today we seemed to really elevate our game," Pane said. "The first two periods, the first two lines were really connecting on all cylinders. It seemed they couldn’t match our speed. With that, we finished today. The game before the last, we weren’t finishing on some opportunities.”
That was a 3-2 win over West Haven on Jan. 10, which followed an overtime win over Glastonbury four days earlier. The other one-goal win was a 2-1 overtime victory over Amity, with D’Albero scoring the winning goal.
Junior Lorenzo DeFilio and D’Albero both scored three goals on Monday, with D’Albero’s first two coming short-handed 14 seconds apart in the last minute of the first period to make it 4-0.
Division III Conard (9-0) is the only other remaining unbeaten team.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
There are several options, including Mike Fritz making a big save or two when the game was close and Lorenzo DeFilio for his own hat trick. But we’ll go with senior forward John D’Albero.
“He’s a tough guy to stop,” Pane said. “He’s scoring goal-scorer goals, whipping it up top in a window that’s very small.
"He’s one of those type of guys: He’s rather quiet, but he will speak up at certain times, and then we know we’ve got to get it in gear.”
NOT THEIR DAY
Westhill/Stamford fell to 8-1, and they didn’t see this coming, either.
“It was just not our day,” coach John Santagata said. “They got a lot of good bounces in the beginning, we gave up a couple of bad goals in the beginning, and we kind of fell into a lull there. Not our top game by any means.”

Some younger players have stepped up to aid in the eight-win start, Santagata said, including sophomore forward Gideon Lechner and sophomore defenseman C.J. Berlingo. But Monday wasn’t anybody’s day in purple and orange.
It’s a bit of a tough stretch coming, too, with three-consecutive Division I games beginning with No. 3-ranked Darien visiting Terry Conners Rink in Stamford on Wednesday, St. Joseph a week later and No. 2 New Canaan to follow.

Simon Wolinsky, age 14, will be lighting the Menorah. He says, “Even though East Haven is a small Jewish community, this year with the attacks on the Jewish people in Israel I feel that we should have a public menorah lighting.”
For the last twenty years, the town of East Haven has been caring for the menorah. They put it up, take it down, store it, and make any repairs necessary. Charlie Coyle of the Public Works reached out to Rabbi Yaffe of Chabad of the Shoreline to let him know that the weather and wear and tear made it time for a new menorah.
Rabbi Yaffe said, “We are very excited to put up a brand new nine-foot menorah. It is very appropriate that we kindle the East Haven menorah next to the town’s replica of the Liberty Bell which, like the menorah, is also a symbol of freedom. And the Liberty Bell is inscribed with the verse from the Jewish Bible: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the Land unto all the inhabitants thereof.”

The first HNIB News Girls Prep Top 15 of the new year sees no change at the very top, but some considerable movement elsewhere.
At the top, #1 Nobles (12-0-1) and #2 Williston (9-1-1) have both been dominant since returning from holiday break and stay put in the top two spots.
The Bulldawgs rolled up wins over Middlesex, Hotchkiss and Berkshire to the tune of 20-1. They host Austin Prep on Wednesday and then are at #15 Exeter on Saturday.
The Wildcats won a close one over #11 Groton, but had big wins over Berkshire, Tabor and Frederick Gunn School. They host Dexter Southfield (Wednesday) and Kent (Saturday).
Loomis Chaffee (9-3-0) climbs up to #3. Included in their recent success was a 4-2 win over Kent. The Pelicans travel to Taft Wednesday, and then host Tabor Saturday.
The biggest mover is Deerfield (10-1-1) up several rungs to #4. The Big Green finished off a big week with a 4-0 shutout wi over Exeter. A key game looms Wednesday with Choate.
#5 St. Paul’s (7-4-0) was upset by Dexter Southfield, but responded in a big way with a win over #6 Phillips Andover (5-3-1). Next up is Cushing on Wednesday.
Andover is at Lawrence Academy on Wednesday and then hosts St. Mark’s on Saturday.
#7 Kent had been unbeaten before losses to Loomis Chaffee (4-2) and then Lawrenceville (2-1) in its two most recent games. The Lions don’t play until Saturday’s matchup with Williston.
#8 Tabor (7-2-3) has had back-to-back 2-2 ties with New Hampton and Hill School. The Seawolves are at #13 Thayer on Wednesday before taking on Loomis Chaffee.
Buoyed by a 3-1 win over Phillips Andover, Choate (10-3-0) cracks the top ten, checking in at #9. The Wild Boars look to cool down Deerfield on Wednesday.

EAST HAVEN — The East Shore District Health Department cited six local businesses for the most critical level of health violations during routine inspections in December, records show.
My Little Colombia Restaurant tallied the most priority item violations with 13, followed by T-Asian Market (five), Krauzser's, Koi Sushi and Mojito Bar and Cafe (two) and Shong Fa Jiang (one).
Priority item violations are the most serious and must be corrected within 72 hours, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Food Code, which Connecticut adopted in 2023. Priority foundation and core items are lesser infractions that need to be addressed within 10 and 90 days, respectively.
My Little Colombia at 672 Main St. had 13 priority item violations across two December inspections. Among the violations the health department found during its initial visit on Dec. 15 were improper food temperatures, improper handwashing and a hand sink that was "full of dishes and other items," an inspection report states.
At the restaurant's follow-up inspection on Dec. 26, a cook touched food with a pair of gloves that he had worn while making a phone call, according to the report. Buckets of sanitizer also had not been set up to clean food contact surfaces, the report states.
An employee of My Little Colombia told the New Haven Register that the restaurant's owners were out of the country. They did not respond to an emailed request for comment.
T-Asian Market at 692 Foxon Road was cited for illicitly selling parsnip and plantain chips that one of its customers had made, records show.
According to an inspection report, the customer would give the market's owners a percentage of the profits earned from the chips. A sanitarian told the market to "discontinue immediately" and discard the chips on site, the report states.
The store also was docked for storing raw meat and eggs over ready-to-eat foods in two different coolers, a moldy ice machine and a can opener blade that was "covered in food debris," the report states.
T-Asian Market's owner was in Thailand and could not immediately be reached for comment, according to an employee.
The health department handed out two priority item violations to Krauszer's at 640 Foxon Road for an improper vacuum breaker and for not having a written policy on its grab-and-go bagels with butter and cream cheese, which had been left out at room temperature, an inspection report shows. The convenience store repaired the vacuum breaker and now has a policy for its grab-and-go foods, owner Bobby Grewal said.
Koi Sushi at 352 Hemingway Ave. was tagged for a missing backflow prevention device on a food prep sink and for storing bottles of stainless steel polish on low shelving against boxed food, an inspection report states. The sushi restaurant corrected the issue with the steel polish on-site.
LiSong Chen, Koi Sushi's owner, said they since have installed the missing device.
"We put a device over there, took a picture and emailed it to the (East Shore District) Health Department, and that problem is fixed, too," Chen said through an interpreter.
Mojito Cafe and Bar also collected two priority item violations for a dirty ice machine in the basement and for not having utensils or gloves available for bartenders to put limes and garnish in drinks without bare hand contact, an inspection report states.
Richard Miren, who is the brother of Esdres Miren, Mojito's owner, said the restaurant's employees have started using tongs when adding garnish to drinks. The ice machine in the basement also was cleaned following the inspection, he added.
Shong Fa Jiang at 670 Foxon Road picked up one priority item violation because its three compartment sink did not have an air gap, according to an inspection report. Jenny Li, one of Shong Fa Jiang's operators, said she fixed the issue right away and sent a picture to the health department for documentation.
"We usually have no problems," Li said when asked about the Chinese restaurant's history of food safety. "We keep it nice and clean."
