After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

They came highly recommended as they have helped many of their patients get discharged safelyj back home. We immediately contacted the office and their care manager came to visit my grandma, mom and me at the hospital within 1 hour. Their response time was amazing. We discussed several options on immediate care at home upon discharge, as well as developing and long term plan. What I really like about our care manager is his honesty and integrity. “Always Best Care has been caring for both of my parents for the last month and they have been great. My mom has dementia and my dad is bed-bound. We were previously using another agency but found out that they have been sending unqualified caregivers who are untrained and non-nurse aides. ABC only sends the most experience nurse aides and CNAs to assist my parents. They do extensive background checks, tests and are vaccinated. I don’t know what we’d do without them. If the need arises, we can rest-assured that they can also help us find a care home to move my parents in to at no charge. Thank you so much to the entire team at ABC. You have been wonderful.”

“Always Best Care came highly recommended by the Skilled Nursing Facility my husband was staying at for the last 6 months. He needed a lot of care after getting discharged to our home in Kaimuki. All of the caregivers that have been providing care for my husband have been so reliable and knowledgeable. ABC only provides nurse aides and CNAs with the proper state of Hawaii approved training and certifications. Since my husband requires a high level of care, they told us that only nurse aides who complete state approved training are allowed to assist with his bathing, toileting, walking, etc. Regular companionship caregivers are not allowed to do this. This is very important to know when choosing the right agency to work with. I was told to always check for proper credentials when allowing a caregiver into my home. Mahalo nui Always Best Care for taking care of our family. I can be at ease while I’m at work, knowing dad is in good hands with your caregivers.”

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local The Lanai At Mamala Bay or visit Fort Kamehameha, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Hickam AFB, HI, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Hickam AFB, HI

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your HI's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Hickam AFB, HI understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Hickam AFB, HI

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Hickam AFB, HI

B-2 Stealth Bomber Spotted In Hawaii During Fleet-Wide Grounding (Updated)

According to the Air Force, the B-2A Spirit stealth bomber fleet remains grounded, with exceptions at the discretion of the head of Air Force Global Strike Command, over four months after one of these aircraft suffered a mishap last December. The bomber in question made an emergency landing that resulted in a runway excursion at its home base in Missouri.

Significant damage was done to the aircraft, which caught fire, and subsequently sat wing-down partially off the runway for days. This incident came just over a year after a similar mishap occurred. That B-2, one of just 20 in existence, is still getting repaired at its birthplace at Plant 42 in Palmdale. Now it appears one B-2 has been operating, or had been operating, out in the Pacific, for reasons still unclear.

The mystery B-2 first popped up in an image said to have been taken at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, which shares grounds and runways with the sprawling Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, and posted to social media. It was shared as part of a larger discussion about how B-2s are missing from U.S. Strategic Command's (STRATCOM) big Global Thunder annual nuclear readiness exercise this year, which kicked off on April 11. The poster notes that the image of the B-2 in Hawaii was taken on April 7, 2023.

We corroborated this photo with low-resolution satellite imagery from Planet Labs taken on April 8, showing the B-2 parked on the northern apron at Hickam.

The Spirit in question appears to have been transient in nature, although where it came from and where it was going to remains unclear. It's possible that it had been at a forward location, such as Guam or Diego Garcia, when the grounding order came following the landing incident and is just now making its way home under a special waiver. Alternatively, it could have been stranded for maintenance or due to the grounding up until now. On the other hand, maybe it was flying a particular mission that was deemed important enough to take the risk of operating the aircraft during a fleet-wide stand-down. We just don't know, but these giant flying wings aren't exactly easy to miss. Whatever the circumstances were, they clearly seem to have been unique.

With any luck, the B-2's grounding could end after the SIB conveys its conclusions, but just why a single Spirit was winging its way out over the Pacific during the stand-down remains a mystery.

We have sent additional inquiries to the Air Force regarding the B-2's flight over the Pacific and we will update this post if and when we hear more.

UPDATE:

We have a additional details from Air Force Global Strike Command:

"We project air power around the globe and that aircraft flew on a mission prior to the current B-2 fleet safety pause. That mission included a stop in Hawaii. While there awaiting further mission movements, the B-2 fleet safety pause went into effect. Therefore, that platform will remain there until the B-2 fleet safety pause is lifted."

We are seeking additional information as to where it was stored and why it was pulled out briefly last week. No daily satellite imagery shows a B-2 on the ramp at Hickam AFB dating back to the December 10th crash.

Author's note: Edited for clarity based on follow-up comment from Global Strike Command.

HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii (AFNS) --

If you’ve spent time in the Indo-Pacific region, you’ve likely heard the term “Fight Tonight” more than once and for good reason. Pacific Air Forces Airmen are on the forefront of operations in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific, and these operations come with a need to be ready, diverse, innovative and lethal.

We have been charged with challenging the status quo, operationalizing resourcefulness and adopting concepts and technologies that drive the readiness, resilience and lethality of the force.

One of the most recent advances added to the PACAF portfolio involves the U.S. Air Force Next Generation Aircrew Protection, or NGAP, effort.

Airmen with the 15th Wing and 154th Fighter Squadron on Hickam Air Force Base tested and trained on the F-22 Raptor using the innovative Step-Launch and Recover, or SLR, concept of operation and the critical data provided by the NGAP effort. SLR allows for the aircrew to safely generate sorties in a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear, or CBRN, contaminated environment.

“The ability to confidently operate in less-than-optimal conditions is vital for our aircrew,” said Gen. Ken Wilsbach, PACAF commander. “SLR and NGAP capabilities ensure our ability to fight tonight with an enhanced level of protection for our Airmen who may be operating in a CBRN-threatened environment.”

The current solution for pilots is to use the Aircrew Eye and Respiratory Protection System, which was initially developed during the Gulf War and is not agile enough to allow for scaled protections against current CBRN threats. The legacy mask ensemble risks degradation to aircrew performance and combat effectiveness due to its bulk and impact on dexterity. While this is the current solution for most ejection seat airframes, the F-22 doesn’t have an effective CBRN mask—making it even more essential to innovate to find an adaptive solution for our warfighters.

This new process uses the modified M-50 ground crew mask—the same one that’s used with Mission Oriented Protective Posture, or MOPP, gear—and two-layer nitrile gloves worn under the standard flight glove and allows aircrew to safely execute take-off and landing procedures in a chemically contested environment without the thermal burden and loss of dexterity.

“This method of CBRN protection provided me not only the dexterity but also the visibility I needed while in the cockpit,” said Capt. Alex Moss, 19th Fighter Squadron F-22 pilot.

The concept of SLR was originally generated by a series of events set in motion during the North Korea pressure campaign in 2018.

“The ability to use an innovative science-informed concept like SLR immediately restored combat capability options in a CBRN contested environment to our Indo-Pacific Command commanders,” said Senior Master Sgt. Ryan Rios, PACAF Command Aircrew Flight Equipment lead. “This is the type of flexibility that provides game-changing combat power and removes options from our near-peer adversaries to degrade our capabilities.”

Based on a need to unencumber the pilot, a team of cross functional experts from Headquarters Air Force A10, PACAF, Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Combat Command, the Air Force CBRN Defense Systems Branch, the Joint Program Executive Office for CBRN Defense, and numerous other organizations began looking at the ability of the on-aircraft environmental control system—or air conditioner—to remove and purge chemical vapor contamination from the cockpit.

“The assumption was that if a chemical vapor threat could be purged and mitigated, the pilot could fly with a decreased level of protection,” said Col. Paul Hendrickson, Air Force CBRN Defense Systems Branch Materiel leader. “The initial findings were positive, and the NGAP effort was launched to characterize the environments our pilots and aircrew could face in order to allow for the creation of risk-informed operational techniques and new materiel solutions.”

To date, the joint team has tested F-15, F-16, F-22, A-10 and C-130 aircraft and provided the data to commanders to allow them to make risk-based decisions based on the threat, ultimately transitioning the aircrew to the aircraft without additional contamination.

The team at Hickam AFB tested this process for the F-22. The pilot donned protective gear and the M-50 mask, went to the aircraft, purged the simulated contaminants before removing the mask, and simulated conducting a mission before reversing the process and going through an expedited decontamination line.

“Using science and technology to ensure we are developing the right materiel solutions for the future fight is a game-changing mentality,” said Steve Singleton, Air Force CBRN Defense Systems Branch NGAP program manager. “It gives us huge flexibility as materiel developers to develop pertinent solutions at the speed of relevance to protect the warfighter and support mission effectiveness.”

Throughout the F-22 SLR testing procedure, all involved were notating any shortfalls or limiting factors for further examination.

“The ability to work directly with the warfighter to provide relevant and mission enhancing information that allows them to conduct their operations safely while maximizing protection in a chemical environment is a huge win for the work the team has done over the last five years,” said 1st Lt. Gunnar Kral, Air Force CBRN Defense Systems Branch, CBRN aircrew protection lead engineer.

The events at Hickam AFB were capped off with the opportunity to showcase the successful efforts of all involved to the commander of PACAF, highlighting how these practical, risk-based decisions are allowing his wing commanders to Fight Tonight.

“These operationally relevant capabilities give commanders decision superiority to generate combat sorties safely in a chemical environment while maximizing aircrew performance,” Hendrickson said. “This is something that can truly help shape how the warfighter fights over the next decade. The work we’re doing here will save an Airman’s life.”

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr. visited Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Aug. 5, returning to the base for the first time since assuming his role as CSAF.

During the visit, which was one of several stops on a tour of locations throughout the Indo-Pacific region, Brown was updated on how the 15th Wing continues to advance its mission of enabling, employing and projecting combat power throughout the priority theater.

Brown discussed the value of strengthening relationships with allies and partners, and 15th Wing Airmen highlighted how they work with regional partners to integrate joint operations, promoting advancements to their mission capabilities.

Brown also hosted an all-call to speak directly to base members and answer as many questions as he could. During the all-call, Brown expanded on his strategic approach of Accelerate Change or Lose as well as the importance of modernizing the capabilities of the Air Force.

“If you feel like you're very comfortable, you're not changing,” Brown said. “We have got to challenge the status quo; we cannot sit here and be doing the same thing and expecting different results against the threats we are seeing today.”

Brown also spoke with squadron commanders about making an effort to continue to implement change and enable Airmen to be a part of a multi-capable workforce.

“We trust our Airmen to do what they’ve been trained to do and then some,” Brown said.

Readying multi-capable Airmen, implementing agile combat employment tactics, and supporting C-17 Globemaster III airlift and C-37 distinguished visitor operations are just a few examples of the 15th Wing’s vital role in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific.

“I couldn’t be prouder of what we’re able to do,” Brown said. “That’s why I love our mission statement: fly, fight and win — Airpower, anytime, anywhere. It’s not sometime in someplace, it's anytime, anywhere when our nation calls. We do that because of all of you.”

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii - A Hawaii Air National Guard Airman won a Pacific Air Force-level award Sept. 22 for his exceptional contributions to the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance community.

Senior Airman Cory Haines, an imagery analyst from the 613th Air Operations Center, was selected as the PACAF level winner for the 2023 Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Awards Program (AFISRAP) - Outstanding Airman of the Year in the Air Reserve Component Junior Enlisted category.

The annual program recognizes outstanding leadership and performance among military members, civilians, organizations, instructors and contributors in the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance domain within the Air Force.

Haines was chosen over a broad pool of candidates stationed in Japan, the Republic of Korea and Alaska and will now compete at the Air Force level against Airmen in the other major commands.

Imagery analysts like Haines play a crucial role in supporting military operations, intelligence gathering, and mission planning. Haines processes, disseminates and exploits imagery and geospatial data, enabling U.S. forces to interpret and gather information on what an opponent can see in a given battlespace.

“I get to see actual images and or videos and it kind of gives me a first look at everything that the enemy is trying or wanting to do,” said Haines. “I can build my assessments off of that and take that to the higher rep, and, hopefully, this is what we can do to help counter anything.”

The 613th Air Operations Center supports operations throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, focusing on integrating air, space, cyber and information operations to meet campaign objectives established by the commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.

For six months, he took on additional responsibilities typically reserved for well-seasoned NCOs, helping bridge the gap of two vacant E-6 positions. During this time, he exploited over 3,600 images and 1,100 targets to track over 4,000 adversary assets.

“Haines is a hard-working individual who is always trying to find different ways to improve himself as an Airman and is always trying to find different ways to improve his workplace and work environment,” said Tech Sgt. Hadrian Natale, noncommissioned officer in charge of the Imagery Support Element. “As a junior intelligence analyst with only a couple years of intelligence experience under his belt, he has shown us that he is willing to learn and apply his knowledge and exceed our expectations, which, as his NCOIC, makes me proud.”

This willingness to learn and proficiency in applying those skills helped him stand out as one of two imagery analysts selected to support nine dynamic targeting exercises. He quickly integrated information from national and regional intelligence sources to locate, pinpoint and monitor the movements of 12 time-sensitive targets. Haines accomplished this task 20 minutes faster than the established timeline.

This efficiency helped cement the integration of a new and advanced intel source, which was implemented theater-wide in ISR, and command and control tactics.

Haines’s experiences and motivation to lead by example are traits he hopes can inspire his other team.

“I want to be the best at my job that I can be and help others along the way,” he said. “Whether that’s in their job or in their everyday life, I look forward to just being the best that I can be so one day I can pass my skills on and be that mentor type to somebody.”
