Home Care Chevy Chase, MD

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Chevy Chase Circle gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Chevy Chase, MD is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

“I highly recommend Always Best Care Senior Services in assisting with your search for quality care for your loved one. I worked with Dena to find a suitable facility that could care for my mother in her condition. They are very knowledgeable as it pertains to the senior care industry, which is overwhelming to those with no experience with this industry. The overall process was very thorough and I felt that worked diligently to find the best type of facility that would suit my mother's needs.”

“I have been working at ABC as the Director of Operations for 5 years, and I can confirm that we have a great working environment. Our staff have been working for years and they are dedicated in great customer services and client satisfaction. We function as a family, and we make sure that caregivers are happy working for ABC. The benefits that we offer to our employees are enormous and more importantly, the training programs are continual and very effective based on client's care plan. ABC is a place I can recommend to CNA, GNA, and Nurses to work and our services are well designed for seniors. Thank you.”

“My 97 year old husband on Hospice was cared for by his namesake, another Benjamin who was with him daily from 8AM to 8PM. Not only did Benjamin help me survive (I am almost 97 too), but he was so kind, gentle and careful about all that he did. When my husband saw him in the morning, he actually managed a tiny smile. In addition to direct care for his patient, he washed dishes, dusted and vacuumed!! There were also two night shift aides, Emanuel and Bismarck. Each came only once but they were equally competent. Without Robin Henoch and ABC? I don't even want to think about it.”

“This is a follow up about my Mom who is 87 years old recovering from a hip fracture and numerous complications related to being under medicated and over medicated at various inpatient facilities. The 24 hour care team at Always Best Care Rockville has kept us going and cared for my Mom as if they would their own Mom over the past 9 weeks. This team includes outstanding and heroic Day shift care by Suzanne, Roseline and Dorothy and Night shift care by Afua, Ellen, Hawa. An extra 10 star commendation goes to Roseline and Dorothy who spoke up about concerns they had to their nurse managers that resulted in a discovery that my Mom was being overmedicated during day time hours and undermedicated at night. 10 star commendation also go to Ndey Care Coordinator in the office who is always calm, caring and helpful no matter what craziness is going on! Thank you all! This is the highest calling to provide personalized, deeply compassionate care to those who are sick and vulnerable!”

“We have been using this service for over a year for 24/7 care for my 87 year old mother with dementia. A few of the caregivers have been with her over a year. Raheema her weekend, daytime caregiver treats her like family. She is so kind & an advocate for her care. Mom loves Fridays when Vera comes because not only does she take good care of her above & beyond such as putting curlers in her hair & taking her around the block, but she also has lots of energy & jokes around with her which she loves. Ami takes care of Mom a few overnights each week & she is kind, gentle, compassionate & professional. In the office, Ashley spent an extraordinary amount of time with me at the beginning & was friendly & professional & caring. Esther really listens to my concerns & addresses them. I would highly recommend their service.”

“We were very pleased with Always Best Care (ABC). We used ABC following a major surgery. We needed a CNA for various types of assistance for two people with limited mobility. Our original plan for help, with a different agency, fell apart early in my recovery. ABC had an excellent replacement in our home within 24 hours. The woman who provided most of our care was very good. Based on both responsiveness and quality, we would call ABC first if we need in home care in the future.”

“At a time when you need help the most. When you don't know what to expect next, other the expectation to be overwhelmed, Always Best Care was a great choice for help when I needed it the most in caring for my elder Father. I was out of my element and really didn't know what to do to properly care for my Father - but Always Best Care knew exactly what to do. When we first contacted Robin she responded immediately, met with us very quickly and was ready to go with as much staffing & care that we needed on Day 1. The caregivers were all experienced and personable, and genuinely nice people. When the time came that we had to shift to Hospice care, the staff already knew what to do with regard to interacting with the Hospice staff. And when the time came that my Father passed away they made sure we were notified immediately and remained with my Father until we arrived. I couldn't have asked for a level of service beyond what we received and I thank Robin and her staff for helping my Father and our family during his final weeks of life so that we could make him as comfortable as possible.”

“I moved my parents, who have dementia, from a large retirement community to a group home. When I realized that the group home did not provide proper care for them, which resulted in both parents coming down with urinary tract infections simultaneously, 2 times in three weeks, I knew they needed to move. My father’s dementia had also escalated significantly and he became fearful of the caregivers, who had no prior experience caring for someone with advanced Alzheimer’s symptoms and their approach was not appropriate. ABC came to my rescue and immediately provided a wonderful male caregiver for my father from 4-8 PM, seven days a week, while she conducted a search to find the right place for my parents to move. She took into consideration our family’s financial limitations as well. Within a short period of time, we were able to move them to their current location where they are getting wonderful care, delicious food and ongoing bus excursions every other week! My father is no longer fearful of the caregivers and my mother is very content, as well. They have had no further urinary tract problems. ABC solved 2 challenges for me: 1) they immediately found the right caregiver for my father and 2) found the perfect location for my parents to be cared for properly. What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Chevy Chase, MD?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local The Capital Grille or visit Chevy Chase Historical Society, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Chevy Chase, MD, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your MD's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
 Senior Care Chevy Chase, MD

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Chevy Chase, MD understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Chevy Chase, MD

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Chevy Chase, MD

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Brighton Gardens of Friendship Heights
  • Five Star Premier Residences of Chevy Chase
  • Chevy Chase House
  • Sunrise of Chevy Chase
  • Sunrise on Connecticut Ave
  • Autumn Lake Healthcare at Chevy Chase

For many seniors, moving into a senior living community revolves around how and when they want to make a transition to more involved care. The fire that burned through a church in Chevy Chase, Maryland, on Monday is estimated to have caused $11.5 million in damages.

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer tweeted that damage to the structure was estimated to be $10 million. And there was $1.5 million worth inside.

Update (~1230p 11/20) The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, Western Av; Origin/Cause, under investigation, due to partial bldg collapse, fire investigators not able to safely enter bldg w/o further heavy equipment; Damage $10M structure/$1.5M contents; ~100 FFs responded https://t.co/KAWU2ZPViv pic.twitter.com/gaC710aniR

— Pete Piringer (@mcfrsPIO) November 21, 2023

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Due to a partial building collapse, “fire investigators not able to safely enter” without “further heavy equipment,” Piringer said.

Allyson Chard, director of public affairs for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the northern area of D.C., told WTOP’s Mike Murillo that the fire was “devastating.”

“But I think one thing that comes is the good from all of the people around us,” she said. “And we have had neighbors, and we’ve had neighboring interfaith churches that we work with, that have reached out just to offer their sympathy and support and well wishes. So that part has been very heartening to just see friends come forward to offer support.”

She said the church is special to the area. It was built in 1949 and, as such, “had a lot of historical charm, and has been a big part of people’s worship in that area for many years.”

The fire broke out Monday afternoon.

Some firefighters were briefly trapped.

Chard said the efforts of first responders are greatly appreciated.

“We are very appreciative for their sacrifice and for what they did to try to save the building as much as they could,” she said.

CHEVY CHASE, MD — A fitness studio and a Thai restaurant will be joining the Chevy Chase Lake neighborhood on Connecticut Avenue in Montgomery County.

StretchLab and Dok Khao Thai Eatery will be part of a community that is already home to The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Chevy Chase; The Barrett; and The Claude. StretchLab is scheduled to open this fall, while Dok Khao Thai Eatery is expected to open next summer.

Chevy Chase Lake, located on about six acres, has about 100,000 square feet of retail space. Amazon Fresh, The Charmery, Truist Bank and UnCorked are already open. CVS Pharmacy and açaí bowl and smoothie shop Playa Bowls will be opening this fall.

“The Chevy Chase Lake neighborhood is bustling with energy,” said Mike Henehan, president of Bozzuto Development Co.

Chevy Chase Lake, developed by Bozzuto and The Chevy Chase Land Company, is a new mixed-use community along Connecticut Avenue. The community will be directly connected to the new Purple Line, linking the site one stop to the east to Silver Spring and one stop to the west to downtown Bethesda.

In June, Chevy Chase Lake started move-ins for The Claude, the community’s newest residence. The Town Square, a 27,000-square-foot promenade in the center of the neighborhood, also opened earlier this summer.

“We have loved seeing residents, friends and families from the community utilize The Town Square for connecting and events, and we are very excited to add additional retail offerings to the mix, with Dok Khao, a beloved DMV favorite dining experience, as well as StretchLab, an innovative wellness-focused concept that we know will benefit the community,” Henehan said.

StretchLab will offer customized assisted stretch sessions in a group setting, leading to a wider range of motion and flexibility. StretchLab's Chevy Chase Lake location will be almost 1,700 square feet and located at 8525 Chevy Chase Lake Terrace, Suite 304.

Dok Khao Thai Eatery will feature a menu inspired by some of Bangkok's traditional offerings. The Chevy Chase Lake restaurant will be Dok Khao Thai Eatery’s third location in the Washington, D.C., area. The restaurant also has location in Woodbridge, Virginia, and Columbia, Maryland. The Chevy Chase Lake location will have more than 3,700 square feet, located at 8551 Connecticut Avenue.

Chevy Chase Lake also recently unveiled “Streetcar” by Tom Fruin, a colorful acrylic and steel public art piece in The Town Square.

This piece is inspired by a classic trolley and a nod to Chevy Chase Lake as one of the first streetcar suburbs and the end of the historic Connecticut Avenue streetcar, which stopped operations in 1937. It also pays homage to Chevy Chase Lake’s future direct access to the Purple Line, which is currently under construction.

Turncoat Loosens Up Chevy Chase With Bathtub Gin and Bootlegger Mugshots

ChevyChevy Chase drinkers can now saddle up to a dimly-lit streetcar bar to sip Prohibition-era cocktails as Al Capone looks on from above. Turncoat, the last piece of the Heights food hall project, is only accessed through an outside door tagged with a tiny emblem (5406 Wisconsin Avenue, Chevy Chase, Maryland).

“A little bit of mystery, but not enough that people can’t find it,” says Chad Sparrow, founder of Common Plate Hospitality. “The Chevy Chase neighborhood is a bit lacking in bar options, and we’d like to bring the speakeasy experience to the neighborhood.”

Once inside the hidden hideaway, Turncoat evokes the 1920s with murals of infamous gangsters like Capone and Charles “Lucky” Luciano, a bar resembling a real Rock Creek Railway streetcar, golden decor embracing the grandeur of the era, and custom cages filled with a curated selection of liquor bottles. Turncoat operates Wednesday to Sunday from 5 p.m. until midnight, which isn’t that late by speakeasy standards but certainly is for Chevy Chase.

“When we originally did lease on the food hall, we didn’t realize this area was included,” he says, of the former PF Chang’s bar behind the kitchen. “Immediately it struck us that it was perfect for a speakeasy-style space.”

Turncoat pays homage to the neighborhood’s racy past, when street cars used to tow around illegal booze up and down Connecticut Avenue NW. “We zeroed in on that and designed our bar based on actual pictures,” says Sparrow.

As for the name, rumor has it that railway conductors may have used a subtle “coat-turning” signal to discreetly offer prohibited purchases. The railcars’ storied legacy manifests in the form of a train ticket for a menu and names of drinks and food.

Common Plate beverage director Dan Marlowe turns to spirits of that time to create a list of throwback cocktails. As an ode to bygone bathtub gin, Turncoat fills a mini claw-footed tub with gin and (tonic) foam to riff on soapy bathwater.

The Red Carpet plays with a torch and Tenth Ward absinthe atomizer, while the Tranquility Cup combines Suntory Toki whisky with root spice syrup and lemon juice. The show-stopping Black Gold, made with Virginia Highlands single-malt whisky, is complemented with chocolate bitters, pure maple syrup, and a gold foam rim.

The full bar also sells beer and wine, as well as no-booze options. Cocktails are priced $16-$19, beers average $8, and wines range from $10-$20 a glass, with bottles available for $40 and up.

The lounge compliments drinks with rich bar bites, including a “Sleep With the Fishes” order of wonton tuna tacos, “Run a Fowl” crispy chicken thigh sliders, foie gras and duck fat-buttered popcorn, deviled eggs with candied pork belly and caviar, and New England-style lobster rolls.

The attached Heights food hall opened first in December, granting the historically sleepy upper Northwest neighborhood an influx of lunch and dinner options all at once. Anchoring the food hall is the third location of Urbano, Common Plate’s sit-down Tex-Mex eatery in Merrifield and Old Town. The Heights bar up front joins eight stalls serving a variety of offerings, from local favorites to brand new eateries.

Lauded chef Kevin Tien, who just reopened his modern Vietnamese restaurant Moon Rabbit in Penn Quarter, sends out sushi, nigiri, and crudos at Doki Doki. The second location of Union Market’s Yasmine also finds a home here, serving kebabs, shawarma, spreads, and dips. DC Dosa, a casual South Indian stall with dosas and all sorts of fillings, also expands from Union Market to the Heights.

This Deli of Ours, a sandwich counter with cheesesteaks, Italian subs, and pastrami on rye, comes from Sparrow and Common Plate. Mimi’s Handmade Ice Cream and Supreme BBQ, for Texas-style barbecue with Filipino influences, are also present.

Rounding out the vendors are the winners of Sparrow’s “Stall Wars” competition — Miami-styled snack bar Saoco and Thai street food stall Sky Lantern with drunken short rib lo mein, salmon poke, and rice bowls.

Common Plate is looking to expand seating with a year-round patio. The Heights hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

CHEVY CHASE, Md. — Firefighters are battling a large fire at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chevy Chase on Monday afternoon.

A call came in about a fire at the church just before 12:30 p.m. The church is located at 5460 Western Ave. in Chevy Chase at the border of Maryland and D.C.

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service previously said at least one firefighter was injured while battling the blaze, but the fire department now says that no one was injured.

Firefighters declared a "mayday" due to an interior collapse but all firefighters accounted for, DC Fire and EMS said. DC firefighters were briefly trapped but were rescued quickly and were uninjured.

The fire has been extinguished. Fire and Rescue has not released any details about what caused the fire. They are estimating more than $5M worth of damages.

However, leaders of the church have spoken with our team and told us, they will be holding Sunday service this week. The service will be held at their Eastern Market location.

CHEVY CHASE, MD — Residents of Chevy Chase will get a chance to meet with officials from Montgomery County Public Schools, along with local elected officials, on Monday to discuss the future of a school building that served as the home of a French international school for more than 30 years.

The Rollingwood Elementary School site — adjacent to scenic Beach Drive and parks along Rock Creek — has sat vacant for almost a year after the Rochambeau French International School left the Rollingwood campus and moved to Bethesda in November 2022. The French international school moved into the building in 1990 and leased it from MCPS for 32 years.

MCPS facilities management officials are expected to speak at Monday's meeting about a plan for maintaining the school while it sits vacant and offer information on what the school system plans to do with the property.

The in-person community meeting will take place on Monday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Chevy Chase Elementary School multipurpose room at 4015 Rosemary Street in Chevy Chase.

Montgomery County Councilmember Andrew Friedson and Board of Education member Julie Yang are expected to attend the meeting.

Residents have expressed concerns about the state of the property, including the poor condition of the playground. The property also is in need of mowing and removal of debris from summer storms. In addition, damage to the vacant school appears to be the result of people breaking into the building, according to neighbors.

Some residents are worried that MCPS will let the building deteriorate to the point where the school system may decide to demolish it rather than renovating the building.

Since Rochambeau moved out of the building in late 2022, resident have noticed teenagers climbing in and out of broken windows. Neighbors are worried teens are using the vacant building as a gathering place to take drugs and engage in other dangerous activities.

The elementary school opened in 1951 when the Montgomery County Board of Education hired architect Anthony Ferrara, founder of a Bethesda-based firm now called McLeod, Ferrara & Ensign, to design the school.

Rollingwood Elementary School stopped operating as a public school in 1982 when the Montgomery County Board of Education voted to close the school and move its students to Chevy Chase Elementary School.
