Home Care In Cabin John, MD

Home Care Cabin John, MD

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Cabin John Aqueduct Bridge gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Cabin John, MD is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

“My grandmother needed to go to a skilled nursing facility from the hospital. She was scared and we wanted to ensure that she was well taken care of, so we arranged for caregivers there. She went home with 24 hour care. ABC made that process so easy and they were so kind. My grandmother found her caregivers to be dependable, courteous, helpful, compassionate and punctual. She wanted to personally thank Anne Marie Njang, Celestina, and Akosua Atta for being there for her.”

“We were very pleased with Always Best Care (ABC). We used ABC following a major surgery. We needed a CNA for various types of assistance for two people with limited mobility. Our original plan for help, with a different agency, fell apart early in my recovery. ABC had an excellent replacement in our home within 24 hours. The woman who provided most of our care was very good. Based on both responsiveness and quality, we would call ABC first if we need in home care in the future.”

“We used ABCSS for my Dad. When Mom needed similar care, they were the first we called. The need happened very quickly and ABCSS was able to find us a 24/7 sitter for the first night when we called them. They provide caregivers who indeed care about those they serve. Robin and Ashley (owners) are very attentive to our needs and are always looking for ways they can make things easier for us while caring for our loved ones. Highly recommend.”

“At a time when you need help the most. When you don't know what to expect next, other the expectation to be overwhelmed, Always Best Care was a great choice for help when I needed it the most in caring for my elder Father. I was out of my element and really didn't know what to do to properly care for my Father - but Always Best Care knew exactly what to do. When we first contacted Robin she responded immediately, met with us very quickly and was ready to go with as much staffing & care that we needed on Day 1. The caregivers were all experienced and personable, and genuinely nice people. When the time came that we had to shift to Hospice care, the staff already knew what to do with regard to interacting with the Hospice staff. And when the time came that my Father passed away they made sure we were notified immediately and remained with my Father until we arrived. I couldn't have asked for a level of service beyond what we received and I thank Robin and her staff for helping my Father and our family during his final weeks of life so that we could make him as comfortable as possible.”

“My mother received services from ABC for about 2 years. I reached out to Robin (head of the agency) because Mom was struggling with her memory and other symptoms of dementia. Always Best Care has wonderful caregivers and the staff was always available, kind, hard working and helpful. This refers to not only the caregivers, but their staff of nurses, doctors, receptionists, everyone. I could (and did) call day or in the middle of the night, and someone was always available to help me with my mom's issues. The caregivers were prompt, professional, hard working and really patient and kind. My mom passed away last month with Advanced Alzheimer's disease. I feel good really about the final years of my mom's life, at home with all she loved most, and that includes all that Always Best Care has to offer.”

“I moved my parents, who have dementia, from a large retirement community to a group home. When I realized that the group home did not provide proper care for them, which resulted in both parents coming down with urinary tract infections simultaneously, 2 times in three weeks, I knew they needed to move. My father’s dementia had also escalated significantly and he became fearful of the caregivers, who had no prior experience caring for someone with advanced Alzheimer’s symptoms and their approach was not appropriate. ABC came to my rescue and immediately provided a wonderful male caregiver for my father from 4-8 PM, seven days a week, while she conducted a search to find the right place for my parents to move. She took into consideration our family’s financial limitations as well. Within a short period of time, we were able to move them to their current location where they are getting wonderful care, delicious food and ongoing bus excursions every other week! My father is no longer fearful of the caregivers and my mother is very content, as well. They have had no further urinary tract problems. ABC solved 2 challenges for me: 1) they immediately found the right caregiver for my father and 2) found the perfect location for my parents to be cared for properly. What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Cabin John, MD?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Sal's Italian Kitchen or visit C&O Canal Lock 16, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Cabin John, MD, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Cabin John, MD

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your MD's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Cabin John, MD understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Cabin John, MD

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Cabin John, MD

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Byron House
  • Artis Senior Living of Potomac
  • Serenity Gardens Assisted Living
  • Asheir Homes
  • Sunrise at Fox Hill
  • Bartholomew House - 2023-2024 Best Senior Living community by U.S. News & World Report

For many seniors, moving into a senior living community revolves around how and when they want to make a transition to more involved care. A McDonald’s restaurant that some customers described as the cornerstone of a Potomac, Maryland, community is expected to close its doors at the end of next month.

An online petition to keep the restaurant open said that Edens, which owns the shopping center, is refusing to renew the McDonald’s lease for a “reasonable duration to accommodate the owner’s renovation demands.”

The petition was taped to the walls near the entrance of the McDonald’s on Friday afternoon and has been signed over 1,000 times since it was posted Thursday.

The owners of the McDonald’s sent WTOP a statement on the closure:

Our beloved Cabin John Village McDonald’s is closing its doors, marking the end of an Era. The closure, due to the lease ending with the mall landlord, brings sadness and a heartfelt goodbye from the owner-operators, who purchased this location in 2011, and our dedicated team of 27 employees, many have been with us since 2011.

The location is known for its exceptional customers, and was a part of daily routines for so many. We hope to recognize all our regulars and say a big thank you.

A Daily routine for Many

First thing on a Monday morning while it is still dark out, the school bus drivers arrive, grabbing their morning coffee and sandwich. Everyday around 10am, we have lively retirees enjoying a decaf and the newspaper and maybe a pie. At lunch, teenagers from the local schools come grab something affordable using discounts on their app. In the afternoon the moms and babysitter would come to use our Indoor McDonald’s Play land and enjoy coffee and maybe share a Happy meal with the little one. Employees who work at other businesses in the mall may come many times a week for something quick and affordable on their break. It is less hustle bustle at night, but families will come in to pick up food on their way to sports practices.

We have so many locals that come EVERY day. It is really amazing watching the passage of time when you see people so frequently. During our employee breaks, the regulars may sit and talk to our staff about how they are feeling or eminisce about history.

We like to celebrate customers birthdays, sometimes with a special Pie and Ice Cream. One birthday was notable, a surprise party for a regular with over 30 people there for coffee and breakfast. It is amazing that all different people from all walks of life come in. I think it is because everyone feels welcome here because of our team.

As you can imagine, being part of a store closure can be very emotional for the team members and our customers. The Owner/ Operators are working with every employee to plan for next steps. If you know someone that is hiring please contact [email protected]. Our email is on the bottom of every receipt, and we love to hear from you.

“This has become a staple for the community, the seniors, the little kids, the nannies, the high schoolers,” said Monika Walters, who works upstairs at Bethesda Pediatrics.

In a statement, an Edens spokeswoman said that while the group is “disappointed that McDonald’s has chosen to close at Cabin John Village, our team remains committed to providing a wide selection of dining options and opportunities for the neighborhood to engage in family events and activities.”

The store is expected to close at the end of December.

Some customers who visit the McDonald’s often were surprised to learn the store is closing.

Sharon said she’s lived in the neighborhood for 37 years, and stopped in Friday because she was “being sentimental, because my kids used to like McDonald’s.”

Joanie visits the McDonald’s several days each week on her way home from volunteering.

“I see the same people in the same seats all the time,” she said. “So we’ve all got our little booth.”

Several customers suspected restaurants and shops that have been at Cabin John Village for a long time are being driven away in favor of new ones. Walters said the area has seen a significant amount of change.

“It’s sad, because a lot of these fancy places are taking over sort of the local places,” Walters said.

Sheerin, meanwhile, grew up in Potomac and recalled visiting the McDonald’s with her mom for $1 ice cream cones.

“It’s something that everybody enjoys, all ages, families, workers,” she said. “It’s not just any other ordinary fast food place.”

Local builder EYA is offering contemporary-style, four-level townhouses in the Cabin John section of Montgomery County, Md., with prices starting at $925,000.

In a nod to walkable, urban-themed development, the community is across the street from the Cabin John Shopping Center, which is undergoing a major renovation. The site also has easy access to Cabin John Regional Park.

Nine condos and more coming to D.C.’s Shaw neighborhood

“Those are the two sides of the best-location coin,” said Tammy Petrillo, sales manager at EYA. In addition to the shopping center, “right at your fingertips,” Petrillo said, there is the 840-acre park, with nine miles of hiking and biking trails, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a tai-chi court, a fenced-in dog park and three ice-skating rinks.

The development plan calls for 48 townhouses, 10 of which are available for purchase.

Roslyn Winegrad, who works in the hospitality industry, was the first buyer to move into the neighborhood. “I was waiting for this development to open selling,” she said. “I knew that I wanted a townhouse because high-rise living is not for me and I wanted to be able to walk to stores, restaurants, and have access to hiking.”

The contemporary look of the community was important to Winegrad, who sold a house in Potomac last spring and lived with her son while her townhouse was under construction. “Most townhomes and single-family homes are traditional, which is not my sensibility,” she said. “I toured a few of EYA’s other communities and saw that they are built with a different style — contemporary and quality.”

Optional elevator: EYA’s Cabin townhouses are available in three models, the Beech, starting at $925,000; the Cypress, at $1,185,000; and the Cypress 1, at $1,375,000. All come standard with a rooftop terrace, a two-car garage and a rec room. The garage is on the lower level with the rec room. With the two Cypress models, EYA offers an elevator as an option.

“Having an optional elevator is huge for people, regardless of their age range,” Petrillo said. “They may have parents that visit or … take care of their children, and maybe their parents need the elevator.”

The big increase in price from Beech to Cypress is attributable to the width of the units. “The Beech is 18 feet wide,” Petrillo said. “The Cypress is 22 feet wide, which makes a huge difference in the floor plan.”

For a young family, a lot to like at this development in Lorton, Va.

Petrillo is seeing interest from a wide range of buyers, including singles, empty nesters, couples with two incomes and no kids, and young families with kids. Montgomery County schools are a selling point even for people without children. “It’s a big draw because even if the buyers don’t have a child in school, they know this enhances their property values,” Petrillo said. “It’s huge.”

The sales staff also cited the added value of a floor plan that puts the kitchen on the same level as the front door — instead of up a flight of stairs — a fact not lost on Winegrad.

“The layout, thankfully, generally works,” Winegrad said. She also expressed enthusiasm for the rooftop deck, with its outdoor fireplace and TV, and for the deck off the kitchen. And she gave a thumbs-up to “high ceilings, big windows, luxury appliances, big closets and a great shower.”

Winegrad said she was looking forward to having more neighbors. “I already know one neighbor,” she said, “and we’ve become fast friends. I know this will be a great community of like-minded people.”

Schools: Bells Mill Elementary, Cabin John Middle, Winston Churchill High.

Transit: The community is near Interstate 270 via Montrose Road and not far from the Capital Beltway (I-495) via I-270. It is about five miles from the Bethesda Metro station, on the Red Line.

11334 Emerald Park Rd., Potomac, Md.

Forty-eight townhouses are scheduled to be built: 24 are under construction and eight are finished. Ten are currently available for purchase. Base prices range from $925,000 to $1,375,000.

Builder: EYA

Features: Standard features include two-car garages, rooftop terraces, multiport audio-video connections and LED lighting fixtures. The kitchens have Energy Star-rated stainless-steel appliances, quartz countertops and single-bowl, undermount sinks. Owner’s bathrooms have quartz vanity tops and 12-by-24-inch floor tiles.

Bedrooms/bathrooms: 3 or 4 / 3 to 5

Square-footage: 2,230 to 2,800

Homeowners association fees: $250 a month.
