 In-Home Care Mapleton, UT

How does In-home Senior Care in Mapleton, UT work?

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it's especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age. When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one ages, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a unfamiliar assisted living community, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

Comfort
Comfort

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them? A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old. With the help of elderly care in Mapleton, UT, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Healthy Living
Healthy Living

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors. Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

Independence
Independence

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like an assisted living community. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

Cost and Convenience
Cost and Convenience

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, can be less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care in Mapleton, UT gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Empowers Seniors

Affordable Care Plans

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

Veteran's Benefits
Veteran's Benefits

Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.

Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-Term Care Insurance

Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.

Private Insurance
Private Insurance

Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.

Life Insurance
Life Insurance

Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Mapleton,UT understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

MAPLETON, Utah (ABC4 News) – 300 people from all over Utah Valley went to Mapleton to fill sandbags. The project held at the Mapleton City Hall came to fill 1,000 sandbags, and over 5000 were filled in less than two hours.

Seven dump truck loads of sand were put into the bags, the event was coordinated by Mapleton Firefighters, police officers and CERT members.

They had some help from the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints emergency preparedness groups. The local church members look at it is a great way to do a service project.

Safety precautions because of the pandemic were followed, and people showed up with gloves, shovels, and masks ready to help.

Anyone impacted by the Ether Hollow Fire, who could face flooding, can pick up pre-filled sandbags behind the Mapleton City Hall.

In a press release sent to ABC4 News the organizers say, ” We have placed information from the Army Corps of Engineers on mapleton.org, which will help educate landowners on sandbag placement best practices.”

“The potential for debris flow off the Ether Hollow burn scar is alarming. We held a public virtual meeting on October 8th to discuss the risks. We want to make sure we are getting all the information to our residents so they can be prepared and informed.”

“We also are working with the National Weather Service to monitor potential storms. We placed a burn scar weather station on the mountain this week and we will closely monitor alerts for potential hazardous weather patterns into the area.”

Nicholas Glasgow, the Mapleton City Fire Chief, said, “It was amazing to see our community come together today to serve. Even though everyone’s face was covered by masks, the masks could not hide the sense of pride and joy I saw in these selfless servants’ faces.”

Mapleton, Utah (ABC4) — 19 elk were found dead throughout Mapleton, and the Yew plant may be to blame.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources was first contacted Jan. 21, 2023, when a local officer found a dead elk with no signs of trauma or gun wounds. After the first elk, they discovered more and more, until they reached a total of 19 elk on Jan. 27, 2023.

The DWR took three of the elk to a veterinary diagnostic lab in Spanish fork, and the initial lab reports showed that all three elk had the yew plant in their stomachs.

The DWR said this may be because elk have been coming down a lot further this year than in previous years.

ABC4 Daily News

“A lot of our elk are coming down right now[…] because of the deep snow,” Scott Root with the DWR said,” when you’re elk and you get down this low to get out of the snow, you might feed on different plants that people have planted.”

The Yew plant is a non-native to Utah, however, the Japanese and European Yews are often planted throughout yards in the state. The shrub-like plant is often used in landscaping, but is extremely toxic to animals and humans.

“It’s a bad little plant that people have been planting in their yards for years because it’s pretty, it’s got a really interesting yellow flower,” Root said, “but what they don’t realize is the sap from that plant if it gets rubbed in your eyes can blind you, and give you a terrible rash.”

According to the Horticulturist at Millcreek Gardens, almost every part of the Yew plant is poisonous, besides the red fleshy part. The yew plant contains cytotoxins which are poisonous to humans and animals alike.

The DWR said that, although this was a traumatic event, because it happened, we can plan better for the future.

“I’d like to think there’s a silver lining to this, we can now do the research and we’re all starting to learn about this plant and other plants that can be toxic.” Root said, “And if we’re going to plan some landscaping, we can plan some more wildlife-friendly landscaping.”

MAPLETON — Another fire sparked in Utah County Monday evening, prompting home evacuations near Mapleton — and pleas from fire officials to stop reckless behavior.

“Two major fires in two days caused by target shooting,” Utah fire officials said on Twitter. “This is not the time to carelessly shoot into the wildlands folks. This has to stop.”

The fire northeast of Mapleton, named the Ether Hollow Fire, had grown to 1,000 acres by Monday night. About 211 homes were evacuated, with 500 considered threatened. Residents were offered emergency shelter at Mapleton City Hall, 125 W. 400 North and at a second shelter set up at 495 S. Canyon Road in Springville, according to Kait Webb, spokeswoman for the Ether Hollow Fire.

Fire officials reported both upper and lower sections of the Grind Stone community up Hobble Creek Canyon had been evacuated. Maple Canyon and Whiting Campground were also evacuated, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. Webb said about 15 homes on the north east side of Mapleton, located at the base of the mountain range, had also been evacuated.

“Unbelievable how fast wildfire can spread,” the Utah County fire marshal tweeted. “A big shoutout to all the wildland firefighters out working on our behalf tonight!”

The Federal Emergency Management Agency late Monday authorized the use of federal funds to help fight the Ether Hollow Fire.

At the time of the request for federal aid, the fire was threatening 500 homes in the Hobble Creek community, according to a FEMA news release. The fire was also threatening a community center, communication towers, phone lines, a watershed, and irrigation and flood control resources in the area. Federal funds will pay 75% of the state’s eligible firefighting costs under an approved grant. The grants don’t provide assistance to individual home or business owners.

Roughly 80 firefighting personnel had been assigned to fight the fire Monday night. Due to high winds that began blowing that evening, aerial firefighting resources were limited, but some helicopters had been sent to help fight the fire, Webb said.

“The weather conditions are going to be a challenge for firefighters,” she said, adding that winds were expected to persist throughout the night.

The Ether Hollow Fire is the second large-scale wildfire that erupted in Utah County this week — and the second fire officials suspect was started by target shooting.

The William Fire started Sunday near Santaquin and grew to about 2,000 acres by Monday evening and was 5% contained, according to fire officials.

Webb urged Utahns to be cautious in the “incredibly dry” conditions.

“Especially today, you’ve had red flag warnings, and that’s been pretty consistent this year,” Webb said. “So we’re really asking the public to heed those types of weather precautions and really think about fire safety.”

The blaze began one mile southeast of Santaquin and spread south due to strong winds and low humidity. Engines from Santaquin, Payson, Genola and Rocky Ridge initially responded, along with Utah County fire crews and Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Land resources.

About 120 personnel were fighting the blaze Monday along with four helicopters, 13 engines, two water tenders, two bulldozers and a hotshot crew. Most of the fire growth Monday occurred in the south and southwest, fire officials said.

“We had one cabin within the area that there was some concern, so they kept resources including a county dozer to secure the line around that cabin,” said Jennifer Hansen, a public information officer for the Northern Utah Interagency Type 3 Incident Management Team.

The cabin was unoccupied, and the line has held, she said.

Students walk out of class after reports of sexual harassment in Utah County

MAPLETON, Utah (KUTV) — Students at a Mapleton school walked out of class Friday after the Nebo School District said it's investigating reports of sexual harassment.

A student and parent in the community said several of the interactions go back to one male student at the school.

“She isn’t the first victim and she won’t be the last until this kid gets help, because he does need help,” said Lindsey Jones, mother of an 8th grader at Mapleton Junior High.

Jones’ daughter, Cassidy, said a boy kissed her without permission the first week of school and has since grabbed her inappropriately.

“We take every single complaint seriously, whether it’s written, verbal, every complaint,” said Lana Hiskey, a spokesperson for the district. “This administration at this junior high has done that.”

Jones said she thinks the inappropriate grabbing could have been avoided entirely. She said Cassidy has spoken up to the school before about what happened.

“She’s reported several things to the office, and one of the administrators in particular hasn’t been taking it very seriously,” Jones said.

Hiskey, however, said “...this was dealt with actually quite swiftly.”

“The hard part is, we can’t talk about what action is taken because of the law, and that’s the hard part,” Hiskey said. “We can’t even tell the alleged victim or even their parents.”

Cassidy said two of her classmates share similar experiences with the same male student.

“We reported it, and multiple people did,” Cassidy said. “They had multiple witnesses and everything, and the school didn’t do anything about it, so we wanted to get something done.”

Hiskey said the administration has been investigating before the district became involved. She added that it’s important both students and parents feel safe.

“Anytime you’re doing an investigation, it takes time, because you want to be thorough so it’s really important that we do a good job with that," Hiskey said. "That has happened here, and we’re really sorry that they haven’t realized that."

Jones said she wasn’t aware of the incident until after the fact and added that it took several conversations with school leaders before the case went to the district.

"The admin said, ‘Really? Again? Are you sure?’ and that was so not appropriate,” Jones said. “When I told him that, he said, ‘If you don’t like it, you can send your kid to another school.’ And that needs to change. You don’t punish the victims.”

District leaders said they are addressing the situation and that counselors are available to talk to students when they need.

SALT LAKE CITY — Streets are flooded and trees damaged after a severe thunderstorm hit parts of Salt Lake and Utah Counties Thursday evening.

Homes in Mapleton were evacuated as concerns for a mudslide grew due to the vulnerability of the land left by the Ether Hollow Fire. Around six inches of rain was on the roads Thursday night and residents were still evacuated. Officials are monitoring the burn scar and drainage in the area. No injuries or damage has been reported.

Residents saw winds up to 60 miles per hour, penny sized hail and rain during the storm.

NWS reports the Salt Lake City International Airport saw 56 mile per hour wind gusts during the storm.

In Murray, neighbors went outside after the storm to find a tree that had blown over during the storm.

Locations impacted include Salt Lake City, Bountiful, North Salt Lake, Woods Cross, Summit Park, Emigration Canyon, Salt Lake City International Airport, University Of Utah and Sugarhouse and many other cities across the Wasatch Front.

Torrential rainfall occurred with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Over 6,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers were experiencing outages due to the storm as of 8:30 p.m. Thursday. It is unknown when power will be restored to all customers.
