Home Care Saint George, UT

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Brigham and Amelia Young Home gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Saint George, UT?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Cliffside Restaurant or visit Ancestor Square, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Saint George, UT, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Saint George, UT

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your UT's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Saint George, UT understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Saint George, UT

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Saint George, UT

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Spring Gardens Senior Living St. George
  • Ridgeview Gardens Assisted Living
  • Sterling Court - An Elegant Assisted Living Community in Southern Utah
  • Rosecrest Assisted Living
  • Beehive Homes of St George - River Road / Little Valley
  • The Meadows at Escalante

ST. GEORGE — From live-action lightsaber duels to movie-quality costumes, this group is bringing together Star Wars lovers from across Southern Utah. And there’s room for you, too.

“It’s a little escape from your daily life,” Connor Malcolm, the man behind Saber Guild Southern Utah, told St. George News. “That’s the main basis – we do it for charity. It’s a lot of fun. And everything is volunteer. We don’t get anything except for the joy of doing it.”

The Saber Guild is a not-for-profit, LucasFilm-recognized Star Wars costuming group that specializes in choreographed lightsaber shows. They perform at charity and community events, as well as comic book and sci-fi conventions, all to raise money for charity and share their love of Star Wars with fans around the world.

It all began in 2006 when members of established costuming organizations and unofficial lightsaber choreography groups came together in California. They joined forces to have fun, serve the community and represent the Star Wars brand in a way that hadn’t been done before.

Ten years later, the Saber Guild has over 700 members in 35 temples and eight countries. Malcolm took the initiative to start Saber Guild Southern Utah in November 2023. He and his wife have been costuming with Star Wars groups since 2015.

“One galaxy, one goal, is what we say,” Malcolm said. “We are a Lucasfilm-recognized costume club, which means they know we exist and are willing to let us perform on their behalf at events, but are not directly affiliated with Lucasfilm.”

Malcolm said they aren’t technically a Saber Guild temple yet. The worldwide group doesn’t recognize them until they have five members in costume — but not just any costume.

Members must make their costumes while following an extensive rule book. Once the costumes are completed, they submit them to the costume consular for review.

“Every costume you see that’s part of our group is movie quality,” Malcolm said. “They actually had them out in L.A. when they were filming Mandalorian. They had guys from our group help shoot because they didn’t have enough costumes.”

Currently, they are a subsidiary of the Vegas temple Nar Shaddaa.

Alan O’Bryan, a member of Saber Guild Southern Utah, said he, his wife and son became involved after seeing Malcolm’s post on Facebook. O’Bryan has a background in martial arts that includes medieval combat, while his wife is a dramaturge for the St. George Musical Theater.

“I’m more excited about the choreography and she’s more excited about the costumes,” O’Bryan said. “ It’s fun because it’s almost like a date night for us every week.”

Saber Guild Southern Utah member JC Alva said when it comes to choreographing a fight, there’s a number system, which helps create the moves and flow.

“Each strike would be a number,” Alva said, wielding a pretend lightsaber. “So then if I attacked here, that would be one. So one, two, three would be on the bottom, four five six.”

Saber Guild Southern Utah plans to put on Youngling Trainings where trainees are given pool noodles and taught how to wield a lightsaber. They hope to have everything for their guild ready by April, just in time for the LVL UP EXPO in Las Vegas.

The minimum age to join Saber Guild Southern Utah is 13. Join the Facebook Group to learn more. The group meets every Friday at 7 p.m. to practice at 1610 N. Dixie Downs Road in St. George.

IVINS — The work of this Sante Fe contemporary landscape painter is now on display at the St. George Art Museum. But how she creates her work is anything but ordinary.

Artist Kathleen Frank seeks out magnificent vistas in real life to depict in her paintings. And she’s hiked hundreds of miles to paint the land of the Southwest and West.

“I’ve always been into the arts for as far back as I can remember,” Frank said. “I was born into it and I never left.”

Willing to go any length to reach the precise vantage point she is seeking, many of her experiences have included long-distance hiking over rocky outcroppings and sprawling through the sagebrush to capture exactly what she’s drawn to.

She’s never been timid about climbing, trudging and scrambling to reach the bird’s-eye view of the colorful and uniquely rugged landscapes. And that uniqueness shows through onto the canvas.

How she developed as an artist

Frank said she grew up immersed in the arts. From art museums to painting with her parent’s artistic friends, she embraced it all. Through her father’s career as a foreign student advisor, she traveled internationally, visiting students as they returned home to their families. Those travels included art museums and memories she said she’ll never forget.

Spending time at various youth camps, she fell in love with the craft of wood carving. Initially learning from a resident woodcarver, she later took a class at an art center in Fort Collins, Colorado. After having children, she returned to woodcarving as a creative outlet that allowed her to remain in the arts around her kids’ schedule.

Being raised by two teachers, Frank said pursuing the same career felt like the natural path. In college, she majored in art before obtaining a degree in education.

“I taught art,” she said. “But I really didn’t think about being an artist because I just held them in such high regard. They’re somewhere up in the stars, those artist people.”

In order to teach in Pennsylvania, she returned to college to complete additional credits. That’s when she took a life drawing, figure drawing and printmaking class – an art form she quickly fell in love with. While she dived into oil painting on the side, she and a fellow student opened a printmaking studio.

After four years of running the studio, she decided to turn painting into her full-time career. And it took off.

“I went to New Mexico and I began selling, and it just became more important in my life,” she said. “I was then able to turn my hiking and travels and photography into paintings from all over the west.”

Frank will turn 80 next year, and while she has a past of backpacking, she now focuses more on shorter hikes into the wilderness. This last summer, she took a photographic workshop in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado where guides drove her and her husband into the backcountry.

One of her favorite places of all time to photograph is Bryce Canyon.

Frank’s recent and upcoming exhibitions include Northwest Montana History Museum, Kalispell, Montana; The University of New Mexico Valencia, Los Lunas, New Mexico; International Art Museum of America, San Francisco, California; The MonDak Heritage Center | Art & History Museum, Sidney, Montana; St. George Museum of Art, St. George, Utah; and WaterWorks Art Museum, Miles City, Montana.

Publications highlighting her work include, among others, Western Art & Architecture; LandEscape Art Review, London; Southwest Art; Art Folio; Artwork Gallery Magazine, Kyiv, UKR; Modern Renaissance, Washington, DC; Artful News and Notes, New Mexico State Committee/National Museum of Women in the Arts; ART UP MI, Milan; MVIBE Magazine, New York; Art Hole Magazine, London; Fine Art Connoisseur; Western Art Collector; Magazine 43, Berlin, Hong Kong and Manila; Monk Magazine, UK; Monograph, Calcutta; and CALYX, Journal of Art and Literature by Women.

Frank is represented by Christopher Clark Fine Art, San Francisco, California; La Posada de Santa Fe, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Saks Gallery | Cherry Creek Art Gallery, Denver, Colorado; and JJ Gillespie Gallery, McMurray, Pennsylvania.

An Artist’s View: Utah on Foot, Works by Kathleen Frank is on display at the St. George Art Museum at 47 E. 200 North in St. George from now until Feb. 24. A closing reception will take place Feb. 2 from 6-8 p.m.

CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — You have undoubtedly heard that real estate is an excellent investment and an ideal way to build wealth. This has proved to be true on a global scale. But how do you know that this idea holds true in an unstable economy with competitive housing prices and slowly climbing interest rates?

With so much uncertainty surrounding the economy and the general state of the world, we turn to the experts.

In a recent survey, Forbes Advisor polled nearly two dozen financial and real estate experts and found that the majority (57%) still agree that, despite a white-hot housing market, purchasing a home is still a fantastic investment as it builds the net worth of homeowners. Nearly 38% advised that potential buyers assess their circumstances and make the decision to purchase a home based on location and local markets, and Washington County continually ranks among the best markets and locations throughout the country.

When building wealth through homeownership, it’s also important to note that homeowners have a net worth that is an astounding 40 times higher than their renter counterparts, which solidifies home purchases as a wise financial move.

Wealth building is an overall mindset that has a large impact on other financial decisions related to saving and spending.

When an individual is financially responsible enough to own a home, they become an investor in their future through consistent wealth-building choices. Year after year, the net worth of homeowners grows as they pay down the balance of the home loan while the value of the property increases.

It’s easy to decide that you want to grow your wealth and make an investment for your future, but how do you do that – especially in the current market? This is where the expertise of a licensed realtor is invaluable. A decision of such magnitude comes with an array of potential issues, and a realtor helps you navigate bidding wars, contingencies and laws associated with the homebuying process.

At the end of the day, all residents of Washington County deserve the opportunity to build lasting wealth and realize their dreams of homeownership. Owning a home is still very much a part of the American dream.

Enlist the services of a local realtor, and you’ll be well on your way to achieving your dreams, securing your future and creating stability in an ever-changing world. It’s sure to be an incredible journey.

ST. GEORGE — Local businesses that put their heart and soul into what they do are being recognized at the 2024 St. George Chamber Foundation Gala & Awards. And the top three nominees in each category have just been announced.

Shawn Christensen, president and CEO of the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce, said being a part of the annual gala has been a pleasure. The opportunity to recognize local businesses and the people behind them is something he looks forward to every year.

“For the last few years, we have focused on essentially a lifetime achievement award — people that have reached the pinnacle of their professional careers,” Christensen told St. George News. “And we’ve met some absolutely incredible people through that.”

They’re switching up this year’s awards to reflect a variety of local businesses. Featuring everything from long-standing corporations to fresh, new businesses with a promising future, the competition highlights the plethora of hard-working people of Washington County.

This year’s award categories include the Thrive Award, Hometown Hero Award, Trailblazer Award, Rising Star Award and Paragon Award.

“We feel like it’s time to give the awards back to the businesses,” he said. “Recognize these businesses that have done so much for the community.”

The St. George Area Chamber of Commerce said they are proud of the nearly 1,000 businesses they represent in Southern Utah. They will focus their awards this year on those businesses’s accomplishments.

Finalists

Thrive Award: This award honors a business that has achieved outstanding growth and success over the past year and has been open for five years or more.

Hometown Hero: This award honors an outstanding business that has made a difference through service.

Trailblazer Award: This award honors innovative businesses creating positive change.

Rising Star Award: This award honors a promising new business that has achieved rapid growth and success in its first few years of operation and has been open for fewer than five years.

Paragon Award: This award honors a long-standing business that has become a pillar of the community and has been for 15 years or more.

With 50 nominations for five awards, the average number of companies per award was 10 before being narrowed down to the three finalists.

On Jan. 20, the award’s annual gala will kick off with a reception that includes hors d’oeuvres, drinks and a cash bar. Once the gala begins, outgoing board members and new additions to the board will be recognized. This year, four board members who have served three years or more will step down and seven new members will join.

Next comes the award show, featuring a video highlight of the three finalists. An envelope will be provided and opened to reveal the winner. After the first three awards, a band will take the stage for 30 minutes. The final two awards will then be presented, followed by a sixth award given by the Utah Travel and Tourism Office.

The St. George Chamber Foundation has partnered with the St. George Lodging and Tourism Association to create a scholarship fund for employees working in the Southern Utah tourism and hospitality industry. All profits from the 2024 Gala will be donated to this fund and matched by the St. George Lodging and Tourism Association.

Recipients of scholarships use these funds to further their education in the tourism and hospitality industry, helping them to grow their skill set and advance their careers.

The St. George Area Chamber of Commerce 2024 St. George Chamber Foundation Gala & Awards Presented by Greater Zion will take place Saturday, Jan. 20, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Dixie Convention Center Garden Room. For more information and tickets, visit the event page
