Carysa Overcash isn't one to slow down for anything.
"I really love what I do and the people I get to be around," said Overcash, a Southport resident who owns and manages seven businesses.
The mother of two got her start in business operations at Cape Fear Fitness in 2008, where she began work as a personal trainer and spin instructor before shifting to management responsibilities.
Over the years, as Cape Fear Fitness grew and to meet the community needs, Overcash opened new gym locations ? CrossFit Southport, Coastal Fitness Ocean Isle Beach, Cape Fear Yoga and Wellness Center, Game Changer Strength and Conditioning, Cape Fear Gymnastics.
"The gym has always felt like home to me, so when I was asked to become an owner in 2011, it was a true honor," Overcash said.
That entrepreneurial spirit was put to the test during the COVID-19 pandemic when gyms were forced to close.
With Overcash admitting she had a little too much time on her hands, she launched Celebrate Coastal Carolina to help people stay connected and celebrate special moments with yard signs, when they couldn't be together.
In all her endeavors, Overcash credits her sons Ryder, 12, and Cooper, 10, for their love and support.
They "are very much a part of the businesses — our gyms are like a second family to us," Overcash said. The boys have grown up at the gyms and they are always right in the middle of things ? helping set up and clean up at events, cheering on athletes or riding on the float during the Fourth of July Festival Parade in Southport.
"They're learning the value of hard work, teamwork, and the importance of setting and achieving goals," Overcash said.
Ryder is the musician as he takes guitar lessons, plays in his church youth band, and even leads worship at school chapel. Cooper plays rec and travel baseball, so spring is especially busy with practices, games, and tournaments. Cooper works out twice a week and plays football in the fall. Both of the boys are also actively involved in church youth activities every Wednesday and Sunday.
"To manage it all, we plan our days early because we know we probably won’t be home until evening. Color-coded schedules are a must — and a little coffee doesn’t hurt either," Overcash said.
It's easy to see where Overcash is working near 24/7. She is at the gyms Monday through Friday, unless she has an event. And Celebrate Coastal Carolina remains constant with almost always something to coordinate.
"I've learned over the past couple of years to strive to be fully present wherever I am, which is easier said than done since I like to respond to things immediately," Overcash said.
"I also love being involved in organizations and events that pour back into our community," said Overcash, who serves on the board of the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce and as visibility chair for the Brunswick Wellness Coalition.
"I really love what I do and the people I get to be around—it doesn't feel like work because it's truly a passion. Watching, supporting, and helping others achieve their goals fills me up just as much as it does them," Overcash said.
That being said, she has learned the importance of having an escape, and recently taken up golf as a hobby. Golf is a a great way for Overcash to step away, clear her head and recharge.

"Managing my time efficiently while caring for my two boys has taught me more about multitasking and leadership than any class ever could," said Overcash.
Overcash also learned a few years ago that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial. Staying on a consistent eating schedule and avoiding inflammatory foods helps her improve focus and energy levels.
She prioritizes and plans on Sunday.
"It’s easy to use excuses and I used to say I just don’t have time, but when you plan ahead and you do," Overcash said.
