President Donald Trump is planning to install a new monument between Arlington National Cemetery and Washington, D.C.
Trump, 79, unveiled his plans for an arch monument — which some have dubbed the “Arc de Trump” due to its visual similarity to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris — which would be built to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American Independence next year, according to BBC, and CNN.
The arch would be located on a roundabout across the Potomac River from the western end of the National Mall, which extends from the Lincoln Memorial to the U.S. Capitol, per the outlets. It would also face the direction of the White House.
Trump shared a few details of the model while speaking to donors in the East Room of the White House on Wednesday, Oct. 15. He held up three differently sized models of the planned structure — a white arch adorned with eagle marble statues and a golden Lady Liberty — for the donors to see.
“This would be small, medium, and large… I happen to think the large by far looks the best,” Trump joked.
Nicolas Leo Charbonneau from architectural firm Harrison Design shared a watercolor rendering of the design of the arch in the middle of a roundabout with the Lincoln Memorial in the background. Alongside the photo, he wrote on X: “America needs a triumphal arch!”
Trump reposted that photo to his social media platform Truth Social on Oct. 11.
"Every time somebody rides over that beautiful bridge to the Lincoln Memorial, they literally say something is supposed be here. We have versions of it… This is a mock-up," Trump said, per BBC.
A senior White House official told CNN that the idea for the construction of the arch came from Trump, saying, “He came up with the design and has been part of the process every step of the way.”
It is unclear when construction will begin on the proposed arch or how much it will cost. However, Trump reportedly said, per BBC, that any leftover money unused from the construction of a 90,000-square-foot ballroom in the White House would go into the project.
Trump has already made several renovations to the White House, including paving over the Rose Garden lawn, which Trump rebranded as "The Rose Garden Club at the White House." He has also transformed the White House Palm Room, adding marble floors and chandeliers, and re-floored a historic bathroom in the private residence.

A Florida source previously told PEOPLE in August that both the president and first lady Melania Trump are "bringing Mar-a-Lago to Washington."
"Their plans for the White House are being implemented to remind them of Mar-a-Lago," the source said. "That way, when they aren’t in Palm Beach, they are there in the mind.”
