Home Care Bremen, IN

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Bremen History Center gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Bremen, IN is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Bremen, IN?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local El Rancho Viejo or visit Bremen Water Tower, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Bremen, IN, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Bremen, IN

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your IN's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
 Senior Care Bremen, IN

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Bremen, IN understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Bremen, IN

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Bremen, IN

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Signature HealthCARE of Bremen
  • Bremen Senior Citizen Building
  • The Whitlock
  • Oakhaven Community
  • Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen
  • Autumn Trace Plymouth Assisted Living
Home Care Bremen, IN

For many seniors, moving into a senior living community revolves around how and when they want to make a transition to more involved care. Some seniors are more proactive about transitioning to independent living. Others choose to remain home until their care needs or other requirements are satisfied. Remember - our staff is here to help. Contact our office today to learn more about assisted living communities and how we can find a facility that exceeds your expectations.

EDEN ISS greenhouse returns to Bremen and has a new destination

The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) EDEN ISS Antarctic greenhouse is back in Bremen after spending five years on the seventh continent amid ice, cold and polar nights. The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) EDEN ISS Antarctic greenhouse is back in Bremen after spending five years on the seventh continent amid ice, cold and polar nights. The greenhouse has carried out numerous plantings, with harvests totalling approximately one tonne of fresh vegetables for research, to supply the overwintering crews of Neumayer Station III that is operated by the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI). With its return, the EDEN ISS project comes to an end, leaving behind a wealth of experience on efficient, high-yield operations in isolation. Now, at the DLR Institute of Space Systems, work is beginning on repair, expansion and renewal for a second major test run with a view to the imminent return of humans to the Moon. The largest experimental greenhouse for vegetable cultivation in space constructed to date will be used for training prospective lunar astronauts.

"Over the past few years, the EDEN ISS greenhouse has demonstrated in Antarctica how plant cultivation on the Moon and Mars might look and function using artificial light. But the project also showed how fresh vegetables can be supplied to climatically challenging regions of our planet while using resources efficiently," says Anke Pagels-Kerp, DLR Divisional Board Member for Space. "We now want to make targeted use of this valuable experience. In the coming months, the EDEN ISS greenhouse will be transformed into EDEN LUNA as part of a planned conversion. Astronauts will be able to train in the cultivation of vegetables, salad ingredients and herbs, as well as in the technology and procedures behind this, integrated into the LUNA test and training facility planned jointly by DLR and ESA in Cologne."

Since the beginning of 2018, the EDEN ISS greenhouse operated by DLR has been located in Antarctica, just 400 metres from the German Antarctic station Neumayer III. This was the most extensive long-term test to date of the largest experimental greenhouse for the envisaged food production on the Moon and Mars. A test greenhouse that, as a closed system, enables harvests that are independent of weather, sunlight and seasons, as well as reduced water consumption and the elimination of pesticides and insecticides. During the tests, the researchers were able to acquire a wide range of experience, in particular how highly integrated cultivation systems function under extreme conditions, how human workflows can be integrated in an optimised and time-saving way, and how existing resources can used in an ideal manner. They also learned how the microbiology is affected during growing and harvesting, and how the cultivation and supply of fresh vegetables impacts the well-being of the isolated crew during overwintering.

"With the greenhouse trial in Antarctica, we have seen a significant learning curve. At the start of operations we needed approximately three hours of human support per day for maintenance and plant care. Over the course of the project, we were able to identify various potential savings that will allow future astronauts to eliminate 40 percent of the time needed to keep such a greenhouse in operation. This is valuable time that they will be able to spend on other activities," explains Daniel Schubert from the DLR Institute of Space Systems. "In addition, the positive effect on well-being from working with plants in harsh environments and isolation was also evident. We are already working on further ideas and concepts for how we can use the unique research environment of Antarctica with the experiences from EDEN ISS for space research," Schubert continues.

In total, EDEN ISS had four growing campaigns, with one season in which the greenhouse was first prepared and then put into a dormant phase in order to start and operate it remotely. Over the entire period, over one tonne (1014 kilograms) of fresh vegetables, salad ingredients and herbs were harvested. Salad ingredients, herbs, cucumbers and tomatoes grew successfully in the greenhouse from the very first season, as did radishes and kohlrabi. Peppers posed a particular challenge. After some modifications and a new choice of varieties, a satisfactory harvest was also achieved for these during each of the last two greenhouse years.

Most recently, NASA guest scientist Jess Bunchek shaped research in the EDEN ISS greenhouse with her overwintering mission, from which she returned in spring 2022. During her mission, she achieved record yields of tomatoes (92 kilograms) and cucumbers (76 kilograms). She was also able to harvest 19 kilograms of peppers. Equally important was the extensive data on the performance and resilience of the greenhouse system, the health and productivity of the plants, their environment and microbiology, on the food safety, nutrition and psychology of the crew, and on the resources needed, such as electricity and water, as well as the working time required. One of the studies she conducted looked at the psychological impact of fresh fruit and vegetables and being able to look at and touch plants.

"During my time in Antarctica, it became clear that the wintering crew enjoys working in the greenery of the plants and, after long exhausting days, eating refreshing meals from the greenhouse, which are also healthy, very tasty and suitable for consumption without any risk of disease. This can also be observed directly in spaceflight with astronaut crews with similar even smaller experiments,'' Bunchek explains. "For the future, this means that crews on remote missions should have the opportunity to cultivate their own plants to strengthen their mental and physical health."

In the course of her overwintering mission, Bunchek was also able to grow various plants and fruits, some of which have already been cultivated on the International Space Station ISS, including different types of mustard and salad ingredients. The 'Española Improved' chilli pepper added spice and vitamin C to the menu during Bunchek's mission to Antarctica. In addition to the particularly high-yielding tomatoes and cucumbers, Bunchek grew beans, peas, leafy vegetables, watercress, rocket, broccoli, cauliflower, chard, spinach, kohlrabi, pak choi and radishes. She also grew multiple varieties of herbs, including mint, basil, parsley, chives, rosemary, thyme and oregano. After her time in Antarctica, she devoted herself to evaluating her experiments. She now works at the DLR Institute of Space Systems in Bremen.

For four years, the EDEN ISS greenhouse provided fresh vegetables for the rotating overwintering crews and summer guests at Neumayer Station III. With a small overwintering crew and a long isolation period, Neumayer III is an excellent analogue environment to space for these kinds of studies. Antje Boetius, Director of the AWI explains: "Antarctica is the darkest, coldest and windiest continent on our planet. This is a great challenge for the people that work and live there, especially during the winter. The greenhouse has brought colour into the lives of our overwintering teams, as well as meals enriched by fresh vegetables and herbs. The research shows that plant life is good for people and innovations for growing vegetables in extreme habitats are relevant for the future. Antarctica is an ideal test area for this. We will continue to work with DLR on projects that benefit spaceflight, deep-sea and polar research, and thus society as a whole."

For the return journey from Antarctica, the EDEN ISS greenhouse had to be dismantled into its two separate containers and approximately 1000 individual components of the greenhouse circuit and the hydroponic plant cultivation system. The greenhouse is now being overhauled at the DLR site in Bremen, equipped with new technology and thus prepared for the training of future lunar astronauts. In the mid-2020s, the greenhouse is to be integrated into the newly constructed LUNA hall at DLR's Cologne site. "The EDEN LUNA greenhouse will become even more digital, networked and resource-saving with the conversion," explains Schubert. "In future, a robotic arm in the greenhouse will support and relieve the work of the astronauts undergoing training. Additional cameras and an AI-controlled greenhouse management system will optimise the monitoring of the plants and their care. In addition, the processing of urine as a nutrient solution will be integrated into the greenhouse cycle," Schubert continues.

Astronauts that will be travelling to the Moon are to be trained in the LUNA test and training facility at the DLR site in Cologne. Construction and commissioning are planned for the middle of this decade. The converted EDEN LUNA greenhouse will be integrated into this research facility. The LUNA test and training facility is a joint project of DLR and the European Space Agency (ESA), which operates the European Astronaut Centre (EAC) in Cologne. The DLR institutes of Space Systems, Data Science, Robotics and Mechatronics, and Aerospace Medicine are involved in the EDEN LUNA greenhouse project with various contributions.

On September 29, 2023, MCDS, together with the Data Science Center of the University of Bremen and the Digital Science Center of the University of Kiel, organized a workshop on “Current Developments and Perspectives (at Universities) in Data Science” as part of the Informatik 2023 conference.

In recent years, more and more Data Science initiatives have emerged at universities and in their environment, some of which differed greatly in terms of their offerings, objectives, size and organization. The idea of the workshop, which was organized on the initiative of the Data Science Center of the University of Bremen together with the Digital Science Center of the University of Kiel and the MCDS, was therefore to give such initiatives the opportunity to present their concepts, to exchange ideas and to lay the foundation for a permanent networking in this area.

About thirty participants gathered for this workshop on Friday, September 29, at the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. Due to the great interest, participation was additionally made possible online. Some presentations, including the contribution to the Mannheim Master in Social Data Science, have been published in the proceedings of Informatik 2023. In addition to the lecture program, a poster session was held, where the MCDS also presented itself.

The program of presentations focused on three main areas, each of which was characterized by a keynote at the beginning of a session and subsequent presentations: The first session was dedicated to Data Science Centers at universities. Among other things, Philipp Wieder presented the Campus Institute Data Science at the University of Göttingen, which could also be transferred to other universities as a large-scale concept. The TU Dresden and the TU Munich also presented broad-based, interdisciplinary institutes.

In the second session, the focus was on data science offerings in the area of study and continuing education. Here, the University of Mannheim was represented twice. Lea Oberländer gave a presentation on the new “Mannheim Master in Social Data Science” program, which was developed jointly by the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Business Informatics and Business Mathematics in cooperation with MCDS and will create a unique offering for young scientists in the social sciences starting in the fall semester of 2024. On the other hand, Markus Herklotz presented the BERD Academy, which is part of the consortium BERD@NFDI, in which the University of Mannheim is significantly involved. While Data Science education often focuses on Master's degree programs, Kiel University is currently preparing a unique dual degree program that implements this across Bachelor's and Master's degree programs.

The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) and the topic of research data management rounded off the workshop in the third session. Here, it became clear that the needs and circumstances can vary greatly from state to state and that custom-fit solutions must be developed. Jonas Kuppler's presentation of the “NFDI4Earth Academy”, which brings together scientists from the geosciences on the topic of data science, brought the lecture program to an exciting conclusion.

In the final discussion, there was unanimous agreement that further networking and regular exchange between the various initiatives is desirable. In the future, this could also lead to a formal association as an umbrella organization.

Arsenal full-back Nuno Tavares has emerged as a transfer target for Bundesliga sides Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen, according to reports.

Tavares, 23, spent last season on loan with French side Marseille after being deemed surplus to requirements within Mikel Arteta's first-team squad.

Despite a successful spell in Ligue 1, where he made 31 appearances and scored six goals, Tavares will not be expected to break into the Gunners team upon his return.

And, with that in mind, a number of Bundesliga sides have reportedly identified the former Benfica full-back as a potential option.

According to O Jogo, both Wolsburg and Werder Bremen will battle it out for Tavares' signature this summer.

Mikel Arteta will look to recoup £13million for the Portugal U21 star, according to reports

The outlet claim that the Gunners want around £13million [€15M] to allow Tavares to leave the club in a permanent deal.

The north London side signed Tavares in a deal worth £8million back in 2021 but the full-back failed to integrate himself into their first-team squad.

He played a bit-part role in his first season at the Emirates, making 28 appearances in all competitions, before leaving to join Marseille on loan last year.

For the French side, he made 39 appearances in all competitions and scored six goals, including one on his debut.

It was suggested earlier in the transfer window that Tavares was eager to stay at Arsenal despite his future at the club being uncertain.

Tavares' agent Cesar Bonaventura told Turkish journalist Tibet Tore that the defender still wants to play for Arsenal.

Tavares made just 28 appearances signing joining Arsenal and spent last year with Marseille

Bonaventura said: 'Nuno is still under contract at Arsenal. He wants to stay in the team but we'll see what happens in the future.'

Tavares represented Portugal at the Under-21 European Championship this summer, with his nation being knocked out by England at the quarter-final stage on Sunday.

The 23-year-old will now have some time off before returning to training with Arsenal, where a decision is likely to be made on his future.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has established himself as Arsenal's first-choice left-back after joining from Manchester City last year, but Kieran Tierney's future remains unclear.

Werder Bremen vs. Bayern Munich: there could scarcely be a more fitting fixture to kick off 60 years of the Bundesliga as the pair bring up the curtain on the 2023/24 season, and Harry Kane's German top-flight debut adds an extra layer of intrigue to the clash.

The 2023/24 Bundesliga season’s opener will take place on August 18, just shy of 60 years since Bremen contested the German top flight’s first-ever match, against Borussia Dortmund, on 24 August 1963. Victorious that day, despite conceding first, the Green-Whites have since clocked up another 1967 Bundesliga matches - a tally bettered only by record champions Bayern (1976).

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the gargantuan numbers, Bayern - promoted in 1965 - and Bremen - one of 16 founding members - are the longest-serving clubs in Bundesliga history. Primed to compete in their 59th Bundesliga season out of a possible 61, the two German football juggernauts are guaranteed to break the 2000-game mark before the 2023/24 campaign is out.

Watch: Bremen and Bayern set for huge opener

Bayern have had the rub of the green much of the time, and not just in terms of titles won. The 32-time Bundesliga champions, who have never been relegated from the top tier, have beaten Werder 60 times out of 112 at this level – the most played fixture in the Bundesliga – and are on a lengthy 28-match run in the fixture. Bremen’s last, and 26th victory over Bayern - a 5-2 win at the Allianz Arena – fell almost 15 years ago, on 20 September 2008.

That said, the Bayern-Bremen rivalry hasn’t always been so one-sided. Only Borussia Mönchengladbach have taken down Bayern more often (28 Bundesliga wins) than the Green-Whites, who posted a memorable win in Munich - taking a 3-0 half-time lead no less - en route to lifting their fourth Bundesliga title in 2003/04. All told, the two sides have finished in the Bundesliga’s top two on seven occasions, albeit not since 2007/08.

Bayern took the prize that season and have done so in all but three campaigns since, including the last 11 in a row. They beat Bremen home (6-1) and away (2-1) last term, with Serge Gnabry plundering four goals against the club where he spent the 2016/17 campaign. Incidentally, Bayern and Bremen kicked off proceedings back then - a 6-0 rout for the men from Munich.

Werder have finished as high as third and as low as 17th across the same 15-year period, whilst spending 2021/22 in Bundesliga 2. Bouncing back at the first time of asking, Ole Werner’s side enjoyed a relatively comfortable return to the big time in 2022/23, ultimately placing 13th.

Former Bayern youngster Marco Friedl has established himself as team captain and, while Bremen will have to wait until new signing Naby Keita pulls on the famous green and white for the first time in the league as he continues to recover from an injury picked up in pre-season, Niclas Füllkrug ended the previous campaign as the Bundesliga’s joint-top scorer on 16 goals – two more than Bayern’s best in the same category, Gnabry. The 30-year-old has also secured the No.9 shirt in a traditionally Bayern-heavy Germany side, and will be looking to start off in style against the Rekordmeister this term.

Watch: All 16 Füllkrug goals last season

“Fülle has shown he knows where the goal is,” said Bayern forward Thomas Müller of his international teammate at the 2022 World Cup. “He’s our No.9, has a hammer of a right foot and is great to have in the side. In an ideal world, he’d lead the line with me in behind, but we have so much attacking quality to choose from.”

Füllkrug is not the only star centre-forward expected to take the field at the Weser-Stadion, either. Last week, Bayern completed the signing of Kane from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and, while the 30-year-old was unable to inspire the team to victory when coming on as a second-half substitute in the 3-0 Supercup defeat to RB Leipzig, a full week of training with his new teammates will no doubt help him hit the ground running.

Watch: Behind the scenes of Kane's first day at Bayern

All of this should contribute to a captivating clash. Will the Bundesliga’s newest superstar get off the mark and fire his side to the three points, or will ‘Lücke’ help Bremen make history as the first team to defeat a defending champion in an official Bundesliga opener?

Subplots abound in the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign’s curtaining-raising clash of the German football titans – miss it, miss out!

BREMEN, Germany (AP) — American coach Pellegrino Matarazzo picked up his second consecutive win on Sunday as Hoffenheim beat Werder Bremen 2-1 to ease away from the Bundesliga’s relegation zone.

New Jersey-born Matarazzo lost his first five games in charge after taking over at Hoffenheim in February but wins over Hertha Berlin and now Bremen have eased some of the pressure, even if Hoffenheim was fortunate to cling on for the latest win.

All three goals resulted from headers — and some poor marking. Hoffenheim scored twice in two minutes early in the second half when first Andrej Kramari?, then Christoph Baumgartner were left unmarked to head in crosses.

Bremen substitute Amos Pieper headed in at a free kick less than a minute after coming into the game to set up a tense finish. Bremen hit the post in stoppage time and then was awarded a penalty, only for the call to be overturned on video review because of an offside in the buildup.

Hoffenheim is 15th in the 18-team league but is now three points clear of the relegation playoff spot, occupied by Hertha, and four clear of the automatic relegation places, where Schalke and Stuttgart sit. Bremen is 11th in its first season back in the Bundesliga after promotion.

COLOGNE HOLDS GLADBACH

Cologne held local rival Borussia Mönchengladbach to a 0-0 draw in the Bundesliga’s other game Sunday in the first match for Cologne since it emerged the club was facing a transfer ban.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, Swiss goalkeeper Jonas Omlin made two key saves for Gladbach near the end of the first half. Dropping points further dents 10th-place Gladbach’s already-slim hopes of qualifying for European competition, and a point helps 13th-place Cologne edge away from the risk of relegation.

Cologne is without a win in six Bundesliga games and has scored just once in that time, while Gladbach has not won any of its five games since stunning champion Bayern Munich 3-2 on Feb. 18.

Cologne said Wednesday it had been banned by FIFA from registering new players in the next two transfer windows following a dispute over signing a 17-year-old forward. Cologne said it had been accused of inducing the player to break a contract with his old club in Slovenia, something the German team denies. Cologne plans to appeal.
