Field Day Brewing has taken another step to make a lasting impact on the community with its release of Centennial Smash to benefit Building North Liberty’s Next Stage campaign and support the development of Centennial Park.
Centennial Smash, a strawberry kiwi sour, is available starting today, July 11, in the Field Day Brewery taproom at 925 Liberty Way, on tap and in cans. It will also be served at the ticketed Pig & Pint event on Thursday, July 17, at Field Day Brewing. Limited tickets are still available for the event with a barbecue buffet, drinks and live music from James Tutson and the Rollback. Proceeds support free programming, such as Blues & BBQ, in Centennial Park in 2026.
“It’s very fruit-forward, vibrant and juicy,” said Alec Travis with Field Day Brewing. “We’re excited to launch this new beer to continue to show our excitement for North Liberty’s growth – and we look forward to having a drink during a concert in 2026 at Centennial Park’s new amphitheater.”
Centennial Smash’s tagline is “Smash Thirst, Build Community,” and for every pint in the taproom or 4-pack purchased to go, Field Day is donating $1 to Building North Liberty’s Next Stage Campaign, with the goal of reaching $50,000. Over $11,500 has already been raised from Centennial Park Pilsner, the first iteration of Field Day’s beneficiary beer. Patrons can see progress on an oversized tracker installed in the brewery.
Funds will continue to be directed to the designated fund at the Community Foundation of Johnson County. “We’ve been the home for the park’s campaign fund since the City launched the effort in 2023,” said Community Foundation of Johnson County President and CEO Shelly Maharry. “We appreciate the awareness Field Day has raised for our organization and Centennial Park through their partnership with the City.”
The City of North Liberty shares Maharry’s excitement. “We’re grateful to continue to receive enthusiastic support from Field Day and other local businesses,” said Jillian Miller with the City of North Liberty. “In only a few short months, we will be welcoming the community into the Hy-Vee Center at Centennial Park.”
The project — which broke ground in 2024 and is expected to be completed in four phases by 2030 — is a win for all of Johnson County. An estimated $11.6 million is expected to be generated by the entertainment park each year, with these positive impacts rippling through restaurants, hotels and other businesses. Hy-Vee Center, an indoor event venue, will begin hosting public events and private celebrations this November and the connected outdoor stage, Hy-Vee Amphitheater, will host its first season in summer 2026. Future phases include a premier splash pad (currently in design), an open-air pavilion and honor garden.
While the completion of the park is expected to take place over several phases, the capital campaign that will help fund the development is now, with a total goal of $3.5 million. Over $3.2 million has been raised towards that goal.
The community can show their support by enjoying a cold Centennial Smash during their next visit to Field Day Brewing as well as making a gift through the Community Foundation of Johnson County, a 501(c)(3), who can accept gifts as cash, checks, credit card as well as other assets including stocks, required retirement disbursements and more. Gifts are eligible for tax deduction and can be made online at northlibertyiowa.org/give or by check to the Community Foundation of Johnson County at 501 12th Ave, Suite 102, Coralville, IA 52241, noting Centennial Park Fund in the memo.
