Home Care Plantersville, TX

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Fernland Historical Park gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Plantersville, TX is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

“Dear Kelly, I wanted to write to you and say how much my father and I have appreciated the great care and service that your agency has provided my mother over the last year. My mother became one of your clients in November 2022 and was helped every day by your caring team. Initially, K. visited with me and helped me understand the various services you provide. She was so helpful and considerate and seemed to understand how overwhelming taking care of an elder can be. We signed-on for 3 times a week shower and grooming care for B.. This soon turned into shower/grooming every day of the week. V. was the caregiver for many months and mother loved her so much!! After V. moved to the office duties, M. became her daily care-giver and mother really enjoyed seeing and visiting with her every day. M. did extra things like making sure she was lotioned well every day and blow drying her hair! Mother considered her a true friend ! Once Mom needed someone to start sitting with her at night, we were even more grateful for sweet employees that sat patiently and lovingly with her such as L., M., and S.. I know there are others that substituted for the regulars that were kind and considerate as well, and of course M. has always been gracious and prompt with any needs or requests for which we asked. We are sad that B. has declined so much that we needed to find a place for her away from home, but we are grateful for this last year and the sincere, caring people that helped us keep her at home. We would absolutely recommend Always Best Care Senior Services and please feel free to use us as a reference ! Thank you again!”

“Always Best Care was able to provide us with emergency help less than 24 hours after we called and we are eternally grateful for their ability to move fast. We needed help with my 90 year old father-in-law who was in home hospice and my 89 year old mother-in-law with onset dementia. All of the caregivers that they sent were wonderful, caring, honest and hardworking individuals. They helped us taking care of my in-law's personal needs, house cleaning, laundry and providing the family with guidance on what we could expect with a patient on hospice. More than anything, their experience and assistance gave us, the family members, a sense of calmness knowing we could take care of our family members in their own home as they wished. After going through the death of someone in home hospice, we found out that there really is a lot more to this type of care than just providing for a patience's basic needs. We are forever grateful to this company for all of their assistance and guidance as we proceeded through this experience.”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Plantersville, TX?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Relay Station Restaurant or visit Plantersville Cemetery, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Plantersville, TX, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Plantersville, TX

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your TX's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Plantersville, TX understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Plantersville, TX

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Plantersville, TX

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Love On 'Em Assisted Living
  • Lone Star Senior Locators
  • Live Oak Senior Care
  • Love On 'Em Assisted Living
  • Valiente Senior Living - Assisted Living & Memory Care Magnolia
  • Angels Place Senior Living

On the backroads of Plantersville, Texas, you’ll fittingly find a lush green garden planted by a passionate producer with the perfect name, Gary Green. Gary’s got one goal when it comes to his line of work. “We like helping people and our thing is about growing food and doing it in an innovative way,” Gary said.

With a variety of vegetables and flowers growing in his garden, it seems the vegetation in this part of Plantersville does really well, and the secret is in the soil, or at least what Gary adds to it. “Everything that a plant needs to grow to its full potential is in there,” said Gary pointing to a container filled with dirt.

You see Gary’s got a squiggly side hustle that involves dealing with dirt that’s been processed in a particular way. It goes through a worm. “Back in another life, I had a job where it wasn’t making much money, but I had an empty basement, so I said, okay, we’re in the fishing capital of the world. Everybody’s got to have worms if they’re going to go fishing so I thought I’d raise some worms,” Gary explained. “I found out that what the worms make is much more valuable than the worms, and what they make is worm castings. For those who are not familiar with worm castings, what is it? To put it bluntly, it’s worm poop,” said Gary.

While it’s technically number 2, worm castings are number 1 in Gary’s book when it comes to growing some great vegetables. And that’s all he does at his Worm Ranch. “If you had a microscope or a magnifying glass, you would see little footballs. When the material goes through the worm, it coats it in what’s called polysaccharides and makes little footballs. That’s the worm poop,” Gary explained. “But that is the best castings in the United States right there. Worms are deaf, blind, they have no spine, but they are one of the most amazing creatures on the planet,” Gary said.

It all starts with a bucket, some dirt, and some worms, lots and lots of worms. Next, Gary showed me the earthworm domicile where hundreds of thousands of worms are housed. “This is it right here. There are actually eight towers of worms in here. 64 cans on each tower. There are 128,000 African Nightcrawlers housed in here, enjoying the luxury of life. It’s 70 to 75 year-round, 365, 24/7, so they lead a pretty good life in here,” Gary explained. “They’re doing their job. What goes in the front of the worm comes out of the back of the worm, and that’s what we’re after.”

Now when it comes time for the worms to wiggle their way out of the dirt, that’s when they get to go through the worm tunnel. Basically, a mesh tube that spins. Gary said the worms can’t go through the screen because they’re too fat and happy, but they wind up going out at the end and falling into that tub. But the castings go through the screen and fall into tubs down underneath.

These castings are what you’ll find in Gary’s garden. “So Shane, this is the Return to Eden. The Magic Garden. Here’s where you will see the magic of earthworm castings. This garden was saturated with worm castings into the compost to make the dirt, the soil, the best that it could be,” said Gary as we walked through his garden.

Of course, I had to taste the end product. So, I tried a snap pea straight from the garden. Man, if vegetable tasted like that, I would eat a lot more vegetables. “The plant had the ability to take in all those nutrients to make it the best that it could be, and the castings made that happen,” Gary said. “That garden out there is one-twelfth of an acre. It will produce about four to 5,000 pounds of food this year. We can’t eat it all. We give a lot to the neighbors, but a lot of the food that we grow out there goes to the SOS Food Bank in Magnolia. We feed people. We also use the garden to show people how to grow food for their family.”

So, if seeing worms work their magic is on your bucket list, this worm ranch will rope you in, no saddle needed course. “How to garden without killing the soil, without hurting the environment and helping to make the planet a better place for us to live and a better place for their kids down the road; support global worming. Got to be careful how you say this. It’s not warming, it’s worming. Support global worming,” said Gary.

PLANTERSVILLE, Texas — The small town of Plantersville is home to a rescue that cares for over 300 donkeys. The dedicated volunteers of TMR Rescue said these creatures are sometimes misunderstood by those who take on ownership - they look like horses, act a lot like dogs, but their care is just a little bit different.

Monte The Singing Donkey has hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, all due to videos of his sing-song bray. His joyous braying began shortly after he was adopted out of TMR, taken in to be a companion for his new owner’s horses in Conroe.

"It was like he and the horses had known each other forever," Monte's owner Pinky Ruggles said. "It was like, this herd had been a herd for years... And then three days later... He just let out this honking hee-haw, weird bray. He looked as startled as I did!"

Monte is one of thousands of donkeys, mules, ponies and horses who have passed through TMR over the years. TMR has a mission to protect, rehabilitate, and adopt out donkeys and other equines who have suffered abuse or neglect.

"My daughter rides," said volunteer Vicki Morris as she reflected on what brought her out to Plantersville two years ago. "She has a horse, so that kind of started it as well. Just being able to come out and work with them and love on them as well, has been awesome.”

Donkeys are a special kind of animal. They need a lot of care like horses do, but don’t always get the same reputation as horses, the volunteers said. But it’s bonding with these animals that bring joy and purpose to volunteers.

"So when people come out here, we really want them to learn the proper way to handle donkeys and build a bond with them," said volunteer "Cowboy Bob" Bova. "And then when we adopt them out, we really spend some time with their new human and show them what’s a great way to get a close relationship with them."

Bova, a downtown Austin resident, is one of several volunteers who live in a large city or suburban area, and otherwise wouldn’t be able to exercise their passion for equine care.

"It is a great break to come out here," he said. "The ranch is beautiful, and working with the animals is really therapy for me.”

An abused animal might not feel like opening up right away. But when loved by supporters and volunteers like these, they are given a reason to sing.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville, Texas is a masterpiece.

“The Holy Spirit is at work here,” one of the parishioners said to me after Mass.

I believe him. I could feel it for myself.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville, Texas is one of the historic “Painted Churches of Texas,” and I visited there one recent Sunday morning.

In fact, it was the Spirit who led me to St. Mary’s.

I’d been researching Marian pilgrimage sites for my ongoing project, Marian Pilgrimage: Discovering Mary Across the USA when I happened upon a brief article about the Catholic heritage of Galveston, Texas. Labeled “The Ellis Island of the West,” the gulf island was a prominent entry-way for European immigrants from the mid-1800s to mid-1900s – many of them Catholic.

As they made their way deeper into Texas, they looked for suitable places to establish homesteads and start a new life in a new country. They also looked for suitable places to establish places of worship. Missing home, they built churches that reflected their heritage – German, Czech, Polish, Austrian, and Ukrainian among others. The churches, colorfully painted and brightly decorated, became known as the Painted Churches of Texas. There are more than 20 of them that speckle the landscape of Central Texas. Each one is a work of artistic beauty that is the result of hard work, expert craftsmanship, lots of sweat (especially in the Texas heat!) and boundless love.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church (originally named the Church of the Nativity of Mary) caught my eye because it’s located the general area I’d be visiting for family reasons. To my delight, I discovered that it was the church where we’d be attending Sunday Mass.

The Spirit at work, to be sure.

Founded in 1894 by Catholic Ukrainians of German descent from Russia, the Church of the Nativity of Mary is crafted in what its pastor, Father Edward Kucera calls “country gothic.” The current church was built in 1917 – toward the close of WWI – to replace the original which burned down after its bell tower was struck by lightening. The church was immediately rebuilt that same year, this time without a bell tower. In the 1950s and 60s, the church underwent significant changes, with much of the ornate stenciling painted over or otherwise covered and many the interior items removed. Thanks to Fr. Kucera’s drive and wise direction, restoration began in 2002 and continues until today. Much of the interior glory has been recaptured and several of the original items recovered, including some from the 1894 church that had been rescued from the fire.

Entering the church, I would never have guessed that a single thing had been lost or covered over. It is absolutely gorgeous!

Basic yet pleasantly inviting from the outside, the inside walls are elegantly stenciled in vibrant colors and beaded board. Dazzling stained glass fills the window frames. In the entrance are inscriptions above the door hosting the names of the 1917 re-builders and inscriptions that were meaningful to them. One says, Come to me all ye who work hard and have a burden and I will give you rest. During WWII, is was all painted over because the parishioners didn’t want to be identified as German. It’s now restored for all to see. The pews are the originals from the 1917 church, except for the last two on either side – they’d been saved from the 1894 church during the fire. The sanctuary is majestic, with paintings of incensing angels surrounding the Victorious Lamb – a common theme in the Painted Churches. The Holy Spirit is there as well, in all his glory. The altar, according to Fr. Kucera, resembles the altars in the other Painted Churches, all of which likely were made by the same company in San Antonio. The statues of the Sacred Heart and Adoring Angels are from the 1917 church, as are the side altars and statues of St. Anne and St. Anthony of Padua. However, the statues of the Blessed Mother, St Joseph, and the boxes of Holy Oils and the Holy Eucharist are thought to be from the 1894 church.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church is a masterpiece!

For as much as the church itself impressed me, the congregation impressed me as well. A burgeoning parish with 1,100 families (and counting!), its required an expansion of its worship space – twice – and the addition of a church hall for functions and activities. The liturgy is reverent yet lively and the atmosphere spirited-filled and uplifting. On most Sundays, there’s a potluck meal after Mass in the hall and everyone is welcome. Clearly, these parishioners love their parish!

I do, too.

The hard work, dedication, devotion, love and heritage of its founders is palpable. It didn’t take much to step back in time in my imagination and once again “hear” the guttural German accent of my own family heritage or to “see” the weather-worn yet joy-filled faces as they worshipped God and gave honor to his Mother in this building that is so much more than a worship space.

It’s a spiritual home, and the Spirit is at work there.

PLANTERSVILLE - The Texas Historical Commission recognizes Plantersville High School as a significant part of Texas history by awarding it an official Texas Historical Marker. The designation honors the location of the school as an important and educational part of local history.

A dedication ceremony to commemorate the event will be held Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m. behind Plantersville Town Hall. Grimes County Historical Commission welcomes the public to share in and witness this exciting historical event.

“The Official Texas Historical Marker program helps bring attention to community treasures and the importance of their preservation,” said Mark Wolfe, executive director of the THC. “Awareness and education are among the best ways to guarantee the preservation of our state’s history. This designation is a tool that will increase public awareness of important cultural resources.”

A subject qualifies for a marker based on two criteria - historical significance and age. Historical significance is established by reviewing its role and importance in local history and the age requirement depends on the topic. The THC’s official Texas Marker policies are outlined in the Official Texas Historical Marker Procedures.

“It is vital that as we move forward, we do not forget our past. Not only will the Texas Historical Marker provide awareness in the community of our history, but it will become a building block for the promotion of local tourism,” said Marilyn Bettes, researcher of Plantersville history. The last graduating class was in 1942 and the building has since been torn down but the foundation of the “red brick two story building” still remains and is visible in the pasture behind Plantersville Town Hall. The owner of the property has offered to leave the gate open so spectators can walk up to the remaining foundation.

There are two other THC markers in Plantersville - Plantersville Baptist Church and Plantersville Cemetery. With the addition of the Plantersville High School marker there are three Texas Historical Commission markers located within a one-mile radius.

Texas has the largest marker program in the United States with approximately 15,000 markers. Seventeen states have used the Texas program as a model. THC reviews more than 300 marker applications each year.

THC is the state agency for historic preservation. The agency administers a variety of programs to preserve the archeological, historical and cultural resources of Texas. For more information visit www.thc. texas.gov.
