A resurfacing project on the major route through Prairie City is getting underway. The city says the Iowa Department of Transportation directed the contractor, InRoads Paving of Des Moines, to start work on Highway 117 and 2nd Street (Old Hwy163) today. The resurfacing is expected to take about a week, and will occur from South State Street to just east of the Casey’s convenience store on the west edge of town.
During the project, one lane will be open with a pilot vehicle leading traffic. But in the evenings, both lanes will be open. For more information about the Highway 117 and 2nd Street resurfacing, contact Prairie City City Hall at 515-994-2649
Simpson College announced Interim President Sue Stuebner Tuesday, with a planned one-year Interim President title before positions will be re-evaluated by both Stuebner and the Simpson College Board of Trustees. Board of Trustees Acting Board Chair Terry Lillis tells KNIA News the search started too late in the academic year to do as wide of a scope as they would have wished, so the search centered around individuals with experience to do the job and the potential to serve in the role long-term.
“The ability to do an interim position, and the ability to maybe go further than just the one academic year. So at some point in time in the future, we’ll evaluate where we are and say ok, are we going to offer her the president’s position or do we do a national search and include her in that? Regardless we gave ourselves the time and ability to not only stay with an interim president but maybe a long term commitment as well.”

As the window and door manufacturer celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, Pella Corporation has also received several awards and honors highlighting recent design and manufacturing innovations, as well as achievements in workplace culture.
In July, Pella received the Future of Manufacturing Award from the National Association of Manufacturers’ Manufacturing Leadership Council, the 2025 Core77 Design Award from industrial design magazine Core77, and the 2025 WalkMe Realizer Award for Best Employee Experience.
“It’s an honor to be recognized in our 100th year for the work we’re doing to move manufacturing forward,” said Laura Phillips, Vice President of Engineering and Procurement at Pella Corporation. “This award reflects the creativity and dedication of our teams, and the meaningful ways innovation supports our team members. I’m proud of the progress we’re making together.”
“Steady Set is the result of our team’s focus on human-centered design,” said Jenn Tuetken, Director of Innovation, Design & Brand Experience at Pella Corporation. “We observed installers in the field to identify and address their challenges. These insights shaped Steady Set to simplify installation, enhance efficiency, and ensure quality. Recognition by Core77 reinforces the importance of designing with the user at the center.”
“We’re proud to be recognized for the way we supported our teams through such a major transition,” said Storm Wagner, Digital Adoption Specialist at Pella Corporation. “This award is a reflection of the collaboration, planning and user-first mindset that made our digital adoption strategy successful.
