On bikes, on the boards and on the sand, families are marking the end of another summer in Seaside Heights.

“It’s gorgeous,” said Gabriel. “You can’t ask for anything better. It’s awesome.”
“We’re soaking it up in the sun, the last days of summer on the Jersey Shore,” said Gloria Capili from Kearny. “We love this boardwalk and we’re just [grateful] it’s a great day for it.”
“Just going to walk the strip, we’re going to stop at EJ’s, maybe play a round of pool, get some food, maybe a beer or two and then probably end the night on the beach, see the sunset go down,” said Marissa Accurso from Toms River, who now gets to enjoy “local summer.”
“Oh, it’s the best time of the year. I literally can’t wait to finish work tomorrow and come right to the beach after when nobody’s here and I don’t have to pay to get on.”
Many businesses on the boardwalk will also linger on after Labor Day, including Planet Candy.
“Honestly, working on the pier, the best part is the people and the energy, so like, Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day, all the holidays bring the big rush of people. That’s who we do it for, you know?” said Ariel Ben-Abraham, manager of Planet Candy.
For some, it’s a fitting final stop before driving back over the bridge, one last taste of sweet summer.

The Jersey Shore is a beautiful place, and Seaside Heights might be one of the most iconic towns. This bustling boardwalk town brings countless tourists to it every summer, but it has over 2,000 full-time residents who have built a great place to live.
