(SPRING LAKE, NJ) -- presents The Sound of Music from August 14-24, 2025. This beloveded musical that tells the inspiring story of Maria, a spirited young woman studying to become a nun in Austria during the late 1930s.
When she is sent to be the governess for the seven children of widowed naval captain Georg von Trapp, Maria brings joy and music into their lives, transforming their strict household. As she bonds with the children and falls in love with Captain von Trapp, they must navigate the challenges posed by the rise of Nazism and the impending war.
The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. It features iconic songs such as "Do-Re-Mi," "My Favorite Things," and "Climb Every Mountain," celebrating themes of love, family, and resilience. Music by Richard Rodgers, Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.
Performances take place August 14-17 and August 20-24, 2025. Tickets are available for purchase online. Spring Lake Community House Theatre is located at 300 Madison Avenue in Spring Lake, New Jersey.
The Sound of Music opened at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on November 16, 1959, and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s last musical was a triumph. It ran for 1,443 performances and earned five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. In addition, the cast album earned a Gold Record and the Grammy Award.
