Rutgers has lost a longtime commit on National Signing Day.
Chris Hewitt Jr., a three-star defensive back recruit in the 2026 class who was committed to the Scarlet Knights since January, flipped his commitment to Georgia Tech on Wednesday morning, he announced on social media.
The move comes three days after three-star defensive back Devonte Anderson flipped his commitment from Louisville to Rutgers.
The Scarlet Knights now have 21 commits in their 2026 recruiting class, which falls to 41st nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings after losing Hewitt.
A 5-11, 185-pound prospect, Hewitt has multiple family connections to the Scarlet Knights.
His father, Chris Sr., served as Rutgers’ defensive backs coach under head coach Greg Schiano from 2004 to 2011. He is currently the pass game coordinator and secondary coach for the Indianapolis Colts.
His uncle, Matt Hewitt, coached at Rutgers for nearly a decade for former coach Chris Ash and Schiano before stepping down this offseason to become the offensive coordinator at Malcolm X Shabazz High School in Newark.
