TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Transylvania County remains under a State of Emergency as three significant wildfires threaten the area, including the Table Rock Complex fires.
The Table Rock Fire, which originated from South Carolina, has now reached 11,000 acres and has officially breached into Transylvania County.
The Southern Area Blue Team plans to complete a controlled burn of 3,000 acres on the west side of the Table Rock Fire Saturday. This aims to manage the blaze, but may result in increased smoke.
The "Blue Team" began operations in Transylvania County on Friday, March 28 to assist the North Carolina Forest Service in containing fire expansion. This team is also coordinating with South Carolina crews.

The Persimmon Ridge Fire, which also originated from South Carolina, is now at an estimated 2,000 acres but has not breached into Transylvania County.
The Southern Area Blue Team will work Saturday to maintain the boundaries on this fire and continue containment efforts.
The Rattlesnake Branch Fire from Haywood County, which the U.S. Forest Service for National Forests in North Carolina says is now at 1,200 acres, has not breached into Transylvania County. The U.S. Forest Service is working to contain this fire.

EVACUATIONS AND SHELTER:
Transylvania County's evacuation boundary remains unchanged since Wednesday, with 758 structures under mandatory evacuation.
An emergency shelter is available at Transylvania County Parks and Recreation, located at 1078 Ecusta Rd #9. A total of nine people have been registered to this shelter as of Saturday morning. RVs cannot be accommodated at this location. Mountain Falls RV Park, located at 20 Resorts Blvd in Lake Toxaway, is accepting RVs.
CONTAINMENT OPERATIONS:
The Table Rock Complex Fire has directly impacted the Connestee Fire and Cedar Mountain Service Districts, requiring a multi-agency response.
Due to the large size of this fire complex, local law enforcement, state law enforcement and additional state mutual aid emergency management personnel are assisting with this fire. Also in assistance are mutual aid personnel from other North Carolina counties, as well as crews from South Carolina and Georgia.

Transylvania County officials report that anticipated increased winds could lead to further evacuations Saturday.
Air quality in the county Saturday is in the Red Zone, meaning that prolonged exposure could lead to unhealthy conditions. Residents are advised to limit outdoor exposure.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned residents across multiple counties in western North Carolina and parts of South Carolina to limit time outdoors because of worsening air quality linked to smoke from nearby wildfires.The alerts, which are in effect until midnight, signal hazardous conditions that could pose serious health risks, especially for people with respiratory issues....
The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned residents across multiple counties in western North Carolina and parts of South Carolina to limit time outdoors because of worsening air quality linked to smoke from nearby wildfires.
The alerts, which are in effect until midnight, signal hazardous conditions that could pose serious health risks, especially for people with respiratory issues.
Unhealthy air can exacerbate respiratory conditions such as asthma and bronchitis. According to the NWS alert, "Fine Particulates concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards."
Populations most at risk include children, older adults, individuals with preexisting health conditions and pregnant women.
Counties in western North Carolina and the mountainous region of South Carolina are under air quality alerts due to increased levels of fine particulate pollution, largely attributed to wildfire smoke.
The most severe warning, indicating "very unhealthy" air quality, has been issued for North Carolina's Henderson and Transylvania Counties. The cities and towns of Brevard, Cedar Mountain, Little River, Hendersonville, Fletcher, Dana, East Flat Rock, Tuxedo and Etowah fall under this advisory.
Officials warn that air conditions in these areas are hazardous for the entire population, not only people with preexisting conditions.
A separate alert signaling that the air quality is "unhealthy" for all individuals is in effect for Buncombe, Swain and Polk Counties. This includes the cities of Asheville, Bryson City and Tryon. Prolonged exposure in these areas may pose health risks even for healthy individuals, while those in sensitive groups, such as children and elderly people, could experience more severe symptoms.
Macon, McDowell and Rutherford Counties have been issued an alert indicating that conditions are "unhealthy for sensitive groups."
While risks to the general population are lower in these zones, vulnerable individuals may be significantly affected.
In South Carolina, the Greenville Mountains region is also under an air quality alert because of smoke from the Table Rock and Persimmon Ridge wildfires. Conditions are especially pronounced in the area around Glassy Mountain, where stable atmospheric patterns and light overnight winds would "enhance the noticeability" of smoke.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Integrated Drought Information System said on X, formerly Twitter, Thursday: "Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina are seeing large wildfires fueled by dry conditions, high winds, and dead trees from Hurricane Helene."
The air quality alerts were in effect until midnight on Friday, the NWS post said.
