WHIPPANY, NJ — Students at The Calais School in Whippany are once again stepping up to fight food insecurity through the school’s annual Stuff the Bus Holiday Food Drive. Donations will be collected through November 17 to benefit Toni’s Kitchen in Montclair.
Led by Calais School IT Coordinator Kim Goldberg, the food drive kicks off in late October, bringing students together for a common cause. Even homerooms get in on the action, competing to collect the most items!
The drive is also open to the public. Those who wish to help can drop off donations in the collection bins outside The Calais School, 45 Highland Avenue in Whippany, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., through November 17. Once the collection wraps up, students will load the donations onto their Calais school bus and deliver them directly to Toni’s Kitchen in Montclair. Their hope? To see that bus packed from front to back with bags and bags of donated food!

Students play an active role in every stage of the initiative, from collecting and loading donations to delivering them to the food pantry. More than a food drive, Stuff the Bus is an opportunity for students to put their learning into practice. The initiative is part of the school’s Service Learning curriculum, which combines education with meaningful community service. Through projects like this one, students learn the value of giving back, develop empathy and compassion, and discover that their actions can make a real difference in the lives of others.
While the holidays are a special time for giving, kindness and compassion are part of everyday life at The Calais School. With the public’s support, students can make an even greater impact this holiday season.
