After establishing a presence in South Jersey over the past year, popular chicken finger chain Raising Cane’s is turning its attention to North and Central Jersey.
According to a brand spokesperson, the fast-casual eatery expects to open by this winter in Fairfield (646 Route 46) and Edison (1031 Route 1).
In Fairfield, Raising Cane’s is building a 3,300-square-foot drive-thru restaurant at the site of a former Houlihan’s. The Edison location is taking over the property that was once a bank at the Edison Crossroads shopping center to build a 3,300-square-foot spot.
Founded in 1996, Raising Cane’s serves chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, coleslaw and signature “Cane’s Sauce.” With more than 900 locations nationwide, the Louisiana-based chain is considered one of the fastest-growing restaurant brands in the U.S.
By the end of 2025, the company expects to have nearly 1,000 restaurants open across the country.
Going abroad
Raising Cane’s will also unveil its first of several locations in the United Kingdom in London late next year, Restaurant Business Magazine reported this week.
In announcing its international plans, Raising Cane’s said its domestic momentum has given it the confidence to grow beyond the U.S. In its home market, the chain is targeting 1,600 units, an average unit volume of $8 million and annual sales of $10 billion by 2030, which would make it one of the leading chicken chains in the country.
Since opening its first New Jersey location last year in Burlington, Raising Cane’s has added outposts in Washington Township, Marlton, Cherry Hill, Deptford and Glassboro.
While media outlets have reported plans for new locations at Brick Plaza in Brick and Blue Star Shopping Center in Watchung, a Raising Cane’s representative told NJBIZ, “[c]urrently, we do not have any confirmed plans to open a Restaurant in either Watchung or Brick. However, we are actively exploring opportunities in both areas.”
According to Patch, the chain recently filed an application with the East Brunswick Township Zoning Board to build a new drive-thru restaurant on Route 18.
