Home Care Summit, UT

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Soldier Summit Historical Marker gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Summit, UT is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

The Always Best Care difference lies in life's little moments - where compassionate care and trustworthy experience come together to help seniors live a fruitful, healthy life. “I have used the services of Always Best Care since Sept. 2021. I have been very pleased with the attentive care they have given my husband. They have been flexible, accommodating, and gone the extra mile helping with my husband's needs. As an example, I was away for the day and I was called by the caregiver that my husband was not doing well. I came home and we decided to take him to the emergency room. The caregiver came with us and stayed at the hospital for hours. He was released with the medication he needed for his recovery and she helped bring him home and get him settled before she left. This was way into the night and passed her normal working hours. One of my requests before hiring on a Senior Service was that the caregivers enjoyed their job and enjoyed working with challenging patients. I use their service six days a week and every caregiver has been kind, compassionate, and hard working. I really have been pleased.”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Summit, UT?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local The Summit at Snowbird or visit Mormon Flat Historical Marker, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Summit, UT, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Summit, UT

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your UT's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Summit, UT understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Summit, UT

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Summit, UT

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Summit Senior Living
  • Summit Vista
  • Meadow Peak Rehabilitation
  • Summit County Senior Citizens - North Summit
  • Summit County Senior Citizens - Park City
  • Sunridge Assisted Living and Memory Care
Home Care Summit, UT

For many seniors, moving into a senior living community revolves around how and when they want to make a transition to more involved care. Some seniors are more proactive about transitioning to independent living. Others choose to remain home until their care needs or other requirements are satisfied. Remember - our staff is here to help. Contact our office today to learn more about assisted living communities and how we can find a facility that exceeds your expectations.

Tennessee continues to build momentum in its innovation economy, and this week, leaders from industry, education, government and non-profits convened in Nashville to talk about the challenges and opportunities ahead, including how other communities could learn from the state’s success.

University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Chancellor Donde Plowman and Vanderbilt University Chancellor Daniel Diermeier joined Council on Competitiveness President Deborah Wince-Smith to host a two-day conversation on the Vanderbilt campus focused on Tennessee’s role in the future of innovation ecosystems around mobility, energy, and manufacturing.

“We know Tennessee has a great story to tell about how to advance innovation and build a knowledge-based economy by leaning into our strengths,” Plowman said. “Bringing smart and creative leaders together in one place to talk about how to generate new ideas and strengthen collaboration will help us continue to build on that momentum.”

Topics covered during the event included how to meet the workforce needs of evolving industries, spur new ideas through public-private partnerships, build the collaborative entrepreneurial ecosystem where start-ups thrive, and invest in infrastructure that attracts and retains businesses.

Speakers and panelists included leaders from Nissan, Volkswagen, Bridgestone, Oracle, Google, Tennessee Valley Authority, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and more. Leaders emphasized the desire to be in an ecosystem with other forward-thinking organizations and the value of collaboration with higher education institutions across both research and development and workforce development.

U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty and Governor Bill Lee also delivered keynote remarks on Thursday and Friday.

Lee has been an advocate for advancing nuclear energy in Tennessee, including appointing a new advisory council and committing a $50 million fund to invest in developing a nuclear energy ecosystem in the state.

UT-ORNL Governor’s Chair for Computational Engineering, Brian Wirth, pointed to that commitment in his presentation on the emerging nuclear fusion technology.

“I feel so fortunate to be a Volunteer in a state that so strongly supports this innovative vision for the future,” he said. “We have the potential for fusion to provide safe, sustainable energy sources for our state. We need more technologies around the reactors, so we must innovate.”

The event was the first in a series of regional summits scheduled in strategic cities across the country in partnership with the Council on Competitiveness, a national coalition focused on positioning the U.S. economy to compete globally.

The Council on Competitiveness is a national nonprofit that has spent the last 30 years advocating for national productivity and inclusive prosperity. By bridging sectors, it aims to foster entrepreneurship and drive the commercialization of innovative ideas to enhance America’s competitiveness in the global economy.

When Tennessee takes the field against UConn this Saturday, it will be sporting a slight difference to its typical uniform.

As the team did last year against UT Martin, the Vols will wear 'Summitt Blue' accessories along with their home orange jerseys.

This a clear nod to the Lady Vols and Pat Summitt for the homecoming clash.

TALK ABOUT IT IN THE ROCKY TOP FORUM

Along with the uniforms, Tennessee Athletics and The University of Tennessee Medical Center have teamed up to honor Summitt, as well. A special commemorative cup will be available for purchase at concessions stands benefitting Alzheimer's research.

With November marking Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month, a dollar from every sale will go directly to support Alzheimer's research at The University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Head coach Josh Heupel addressed the cause at his Monday press conference.

"November is also Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and we have a unique opportunity to honor the legacy of Pat Summitt," said Heupel. "We’ll be doing that at the game with our uniform, but we’ll also be doing that with a commemorative cup that everyone can purchase. All of that will go to UT Medical’s research on Alzheimer’s.”

Kick-off against the Huskies is set for 12 p.m. ET on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.

To honor Pat Summitt, Tennessee football wore blue vs. UT Martin

For The Win...

For The Win

A lot of folks are paying attention to Tennessee football this week, and for good reason. Last weekend, the Vols annoyed Nick Saban on their way to an upset win over Alabama, a celebration 16 years in the making that involved smoking cigars, scaring away referees and tearing down goalposts.

On Saturday, the Vols – newly ranked No. 4 in the latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll – hosted UT Martin for their homecoming game. And when the Vols took the field and got the 65-24 win, there was something a little different about Tennessee’s uniforms.

So, some of y’all might be wondering: Why are the Vols wearing blue?

The short answer is that the blue is for both Pat Summitt, the longtime legendary women’s basketball coach for Tennessee, and Title IX as head coach Josh Heupel told the media.

We’ll go a little more in-depth in our explanation than Heupel:

This year is the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the groundbreaking legislation signed into law in 1972 by President Nixon that barred educational institutions from discriminating based on gender. It aimed to level the playing field for women and to equalize opportunities. Simply put: It sparked an athletic revolution and opened doors for women in sports.

A few years before Title IX, Joan Cronan was the women’s basketball coach at Tennessee. Before the start of the 1968-69 season, she went shopping for new uniforms. But no company was making women’s basketball uniforms in Tennessee’s signature orange. So, Cronan opted for “Columbia Blue” kits with orange lettering on them. Orange uniforms became available later on, but that blue stuck with the women’s basketball team.

Pat Head (Summitt) was hired as the Vols’ women’s hoops coach in 1974 and transformed the program into a national powerhouse brand, winning 16 SEC titles and eight national championships. The basketball hall of famer died in 2016 at the age of 64 after a fight with Alzheimer’s disease.

To honor Title IX and Summitt – the most important woman in the history of Tennessee athletics – the Vols renamed that iconic color as “Summitt Blue” and incorporated it into uniforms for several of its teams this season, including football.

Summitt Blue even has its own color codes:

The volleyball, soccer and softball teams at Tennessee are incorporating Summitt Blue into their uniforms this year too.

It’s a pretty good time to be a fan of Tennessee right now. Not only are the Vols undefeated in football, but Kellie Harper – who played for Summitt – has the Vols’ women’s basketball team back in the national conversation and garnering a lot of preseason hype. Tennessee is fifth in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll for women’s basketball that was released last week. Last season, Harper’s squad won 25 games and made the Sweet 16.

Harper narrated the Tennessee hype video for this week for the game against UT Martin, which is Summitt’s alma mater.

Tennessee Teams to Debut New “Summitt Blue” Uniforms This Year

Additionally, four teams will debut the Summitt Blue uniforms during the upcoming 2022-23 academic year – a collection dubbed the "Summitt Legacy" series. This fall, the Tennessee soccer and volleyball teams will be the first to compete in the new Summitt Blue jerseys.

The Lady Vols basketball team will follow with a full Summitt Blue uniform this winter, and the softball squad's jersey rotation also will feature a Summitt Blue option this spring.

Summitt Blue stands alongside "Smokey Grey" and "Dark Mode" (formerly Anthracite) as the three accent colors on Tennessee Athletics' official color palette.

"Tennessee's history as a worldwide leader in women's athletics, along with the Lady Vols' unique legacy of excellence are traditions we are proud to celebrate," Tennessee Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Danny White said. "As some of our teams recently saw their new Summitt Blue uniforms for the first time, they reacted with a joy and enthusiasm that I hope will extend to our fans and proud alumni."

The soccer and volleyball Summitt Blue jerseys will soon be unveiled on those teams' official social media channels. Fans are encouraged to follow @Vol_Soccer and @Vol_VBall for the latest updates.

The first version of the Lady Vols' blue accent color appeared in 1968 when Joan Cronan set out to obtain jerseys for the women's basketball team. At the time, no company offered an orange uniform, so Cronan opted for Columbia blue uniforms with orange lettering when the Lady Vols played at home.

Later, when orange uniforms became available, Tennessee switched to the traditional orange jerseys but a touch of Summitt Blue has remained.

Blue also has appeared on Tennessee men's uniforms in the past, as the men's basketball program used a shade of blue as an accent color on its jerseys during the head coaching tenure of Ray Mears in the 1960s.

Tennessee made right decision to hire Holly Warlick, and her departure is right call, too

Holly Warlick's bio tells us she became head coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols after the 2011-12 basketball season. But her head-coaching career really began a season earlier.

She just didn't get credit for it.

Pat Summitt announced before the 2011-12 season that she was suffering from early onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. Nonetheless, she elected to coach one more season.

But in that last season, she was no longer the legendary coach who led Tennessee to eight national championships. The disease wouldn't let her be that coach.

As Summitt dealt with the disease and continued to coach, assistant coach Warlick had to handle many of the head-coaching responsibilities. That was difficult enough. But the difficulty was exacerbated by Summitt's condition.

She wasn't just Warlick's boss and former coach. She was her longtime friend. And Warlick had to watch Summitt's daily struggle while taking on a coaching challenge unlike any she had ever had.

Dave Hart, UT's athletics director at the time, greatly appreciated how Warlick managed the situation and team. When Summitt announced her retirement after the season, he chose Warlick as Summitt's replacement. He made the right decision.

At that point, Summitt hadn't lost her awareness. On some days, she even wondered if she should continue coaching.

UT named her head coach emeritus and gave her a one-year contract, It also made Warlick — her assistant and friend — the head coach. That made for the smoothest of transitions.

Seven years later, it was time for another transition. Warlick is out as Tennessee's coach.

That couldn't have been an easy decision for UT athletics director Phillip Fulmer. Warlick was an All-America point guard and a longtime assistant coach at Tennessee. And she won plenty of games as a head coach.

She won 86 games in her first three seasons. She went to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in three of her first four seasons. In her seven seasons she averaged 24.6 victories.

But the program has been getting worse, not better, on her watch.

Lady Vols coaching search: 15 names to watch

In 2018, Oregon State ended Tennessee 57-game, home-court winning streak in the NCAA Tournament. This season, UT lost a first-round NCAA Tournament game to UCLA. With a 19-13 record, the Lady Vols failed to win 20 games for the first time in 42 years.

They also became the first team in school history to lose to Vanderbilt on UT's home court. And Vanderbilt was the worst team in the SEC.

Tennessee frequently failed to pass the eye test.

Sometimes, the Lady Vols didn't play hard. Other times, they didn't play smart. They sometimes overcame those shortcomings with talent, but not always.

Most fans didn't expect the program to reach the heights it did under Summitt. But they expected more than what Warlick's teams gave them.

A passionate fan base wanted to see a passionate team. Too often, it didn't. Instead, it saw teams chock full of former high school All-Americans who failed to reach their potential.

Understandably, many Lady Vols fans became apathetic. Their apathy was reflected in the declining attendance.

So a change had to be made. Tennessee fans can only hope it will be a change for the better.

The program still has tremendous potential. And the best way to reach that potential is to hire one of the best coaches in the country.

Summitt's program deserves that.
