In a move that commemorates its past while looking towards future growth, Clyde Companies is moving its headquarters back to the city where it all began nearly a century ago.
According to a press release sent to the Daily Herald on Friday, Clyde Companies — a Utah-based provider of premier construction products — will relocate its headquarters to Springville from its current site in Orem.
Clyde Companies began as W.W. Clyde in 1926, founded in Springville by Wilford W. Clyde.
Since its humble beginnings, the company has transpired into a family of businesses, including Geneva Rock Products, Suncore Construction & Materials, Inc., Sunpro, Beehive Insurance Agency and others.
For decades, Clyde Companies has been involved in major construction projects in Utah County and across the state, including The Point Utah project which is being developed in Draper, according to its website.
The company’s headquarters moved to Orem in 2016.
Jeremy Hafen, president & CEO of Clyde Companies, said the return to Springville is a testament to the foundational values that has shaped the company since the late 1920s.
“The future of Clyde Companies holds great opportunity, and moving our headquarters home to Springville feels right,” Hafen said. “This move also allows us to give back to our iconic hometown, to the community that gave us a start 100 years ago.”
The new headquarters will be located at 1400 N. Main Street in Springville, and will incorporate the historic W.W. Clyde & Co. shop with modern updates and additional office space.
A spokesperson for Clyde Companies said its current Orem headquarters site will remain in use for other subsidiaries after the move.
On Thursday, leaders and staff from Clyde Companies held a ceremony celebrating the announcement of its return to Art City.
“The Springville connection goes back generations,” said Wilford Clyde, Chairman of the Board and grandson to founder W.W. Clyde. “Our family and company roots here are deep, and it means a great deal to see Clyde Companies return to where it all began.”

However, the influx of visitors and good-paying jobs means many communities view the investments as worthwhile.
“We’re happy to give you a good reason to spend some infrastructure investment dollars,” said Stan Beard, director of development and real estate for Buc-ee’s, told the Springville City Council during Tuesday’s meeting. “The return on investment, I promise you, is going to be better than anyone expects.”
Under the agreement, Springville will reimburse Buc-ee’s for multiple upgrades, including 50% of cost for road work, all costs for adding traffic signal infrastructure and any costs for upsizing water lines if the city feels a larger pipe will be needed.
Since 2019, the c-store chain has been rapidly expanding beyond its home state.
Beard told the council that it could take up to a year before the company breaks ground at the site, and up to another 18 months beyond that before the store would officially open.
Buc-ee’s is now open in 11 states — Texas, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Missouri, Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Colorado and Alabama.

Utah residents have reason to celebrate after news emerged that the state’s first Buc-ee’s is expected to open in Springville, about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City. The news comes less than two months after reports that the Texas-based travel center was exploring Meridian, Idaho, as a possible location.
The much-beloved convenience store and gas stop, and the Springville City Council agreed to a potential partnership on Sept. 2 to build its first location in Utah, with plans to construct a 74,000-square-foot gas and convenience store on undeveloped land, Springville City administration said in a Sept. 3 press release.
“We are excited to welcome Buc-ee’s to our community, and the great state of Utah,” Springville City Mayor Matt Packard said in a statement. “We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship for both our community and Buc-ee’s.”
Packard added, “It has been a pleasure to work with Buc-ee’s.”
What's so great about Buc-ee's? Fans love the food, gas pumps, mascot, sparkling bathroomsHowever, a final document is yet to be signed, the Daily Herald reported citing Packard, who said: “We certainly wouldn’t get to this point if we didn’t have a lot of confidence in them and our ability to be able to finalize this transaction.”
While Buc-ee’s had no official comment to offer on the development, Stan Beard, the director of real estate and development for the company, according to the press release, said they’re excited to open their first store in Springville.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Beard said. “But Springville is the kind of community where we are going to prosper, and our partnership is going to be bigger than I think either one of us think it is, and we’re happy to be in Utah. We’re ready to get going.”
The new Utah location is expected to include a travel center spanning 74,000 square feet with 120 fueling stations, multiple EV chargers and 200 full-time employees.
Customers will have to wait some time for the store’s opening. Authorities estimate the project will take just over two years to complete, given that the land is undeveloped, the press release said.
Multiple media outlets, including the Daily Herald, Salt Lake Tribune and KUTV reported that the company is about nine months to a year away from breaking ground, according to Beard. Once construction begins, the store is expected to open 15 to 18 months after that, bringing the total timeline to around two and a half years.
The city will reimburse Buc-ee’s 50% for the cost of new roads from curb to curb, Assistant City Administrator and City Attorney for Springville John Penrod said, per KUTV, adding it will also reimburse Buc-ee’s $625,000 for sewer and water infrastructure upgrades, amongst other costs.
Any future intersection traffic signals will also be the city’s responsibility, Penrod said, according to KUTV.
Buc-ee’s, a travel center known for its long line of gas pumps, large restrooms, and beaver-themed merchandise, was established in Texas by Arch “Beaver” Aplin III in 1982, per the Buc-ee’s website. Over the past 40-plus years, Aplin has led the opening of more than 50 locations, which began in Texas and then expanded throughout the South, Midwest, and are now heading West.
Shoppers recently celebrated the grand opening of Virginia’s first Buc-ee’s location, which opened its doors in Mount Crawford on June 30. That location opened just one day before another new store in Brunswick, on Georgia’s southeast coast.
Other states with Buc-ee’s locations include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Dennis Gallagher came to the Springville City Council meeting Tuesday to discuss a matter, but when he stepped to the podium, he first raved about the news the city had announced minutes before: Buc-ee’s is coming to Springville.
“That is the most exciting thing I’ve heard in a long time,” Gallagher said. “I’ve been to Buc-ee’s. And people go on dates to Buc-ee’s. I’d go to Buc-ee’s before I’d go to Disneyland, frankly.”
He wasn’t the only one excited.
When the City Council addressed its plans to sign a memorandum of understanding with Buc-ee’s, a popular Texas-based travel center chain, to develop on land west of Interstate 15 off exit 241, news of the announcement quickly spread, with residents across Utah chiming in on social media.
“Heck yeah!” Mary Robb replied on Facebook. “Now I get to see what the hype is about!”
“Ready for BBQ and banana pudding!” Kimberly Christensen added.
Even Gov. Spencer Cox retweeted the announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
It wasn’t all celebratory reactions, though, as some lamented it was just another gas station, while many expressed skepticism, perhaps still upset over the false rumors that the travel center was going to Spanish Fork.
“I ain’t falling for no banana in the tail pipe. … Again,” Michael Denton commented on Facebook.
Adding to the feeling of inevitability, however, was Springville City Administrator Patrick Monney, who said the city has been in discussions for over a year with Buc-ee’s, and signing a public MOU all but solidifies things.
“This memorandum of understanding has been signed, and we’ve got a lot of things that have been worked out,” Monney said. “So I think we’re well on our way to bringing Buc-ee’s here, and the city’s excited about it. It’s going to be a huge thing for Utah County — actually, possibly even beyond that.”
Additionally, Buc-ee’s director of real estate and development Stan Beard flew from Texas to attend Springville’s council meeting and agreed to speak to the Daily Herald about the news.
“It’s been a long time coming — a lot of rumors,” Beard said. “But Springville is the kind of community where we are going to prosper, and our partnership is going to be bigger than I think either one of us think it is, and we’re happy to be in Utah. We’re ready to get going.”
There are currently 54 Buc-ee’s across 11 states, with most located in Texas or the south. Westward expansion has already started, though. One opened last year in Colorado and an Arizona location will open in 2026.
According to Beard, coming to Utah is a no-brainer.
“Are you kidding me? It’s a beautiful state. Our customer is a traveler, a tourist. They’re coming from hundreds of miles away. Summertime, camping and fishing, wintertime skiing — the I-15 is full of our people,” he said. “And I hear a rumor that this might be the best Buc-ee’s ever built.”
The Springville location isn’t by chance, either. Monney said Buc-ee’s has a map of the United States and looks for smaller communities to join that would serve as a convenient location for people to visit.
The Art City met that criteria because it isn’t overdeveloped and has easy access to I-15, U.S. 6 and sits in the heart of Utah County.
“In their plan for the state of Utah, they had Springville pegged as, ‘Hey, this is really where we want to go,'” Monney said.
The feeling was mutual from the city.
“When the conversations got started, Carla (Wiese), our economic development person, was a big part of it. … I was adamant, like whatever we do, we can’t mess this up,” Monney said. “Just think about the financial impact it can have on the city, just through sales tax alone and job creation.”
People clamoring for beaver treats will need to hold on to their tails, though. The travel center will develop in an area with hardly any existing public infrastructure and will take time to build.
Beard said Buc-ee’s will have to work with the Utah Department of Transportation before beginning construction, but he estimated the company is nine months to a year away from breaking ground, and that it will open 15 to 18 months after that.
“It’ll happen quicker than any of us expect,” he said.
