Home Care Washington Depot, CT

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Burial ground gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Washington Depot, CT is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

“Dear Rick, Over the past three plus years, my father Joseph Ceuch has lived at home assisted by the caregivers from your company Always Best Care of Greater Bristol. This letter is a personal thank you from my father and the entire Ceuch family on how your caregivers treated and attended to my father during this time. The caregivers became part of our extended family who shared in countless family events resulting in beautiful lasting memories. Caregivers Frances Boateng, Jeremy Turner, and Yanice Hernandez were awesome in their care of my father. I want to especially acknowledge Francis as a person who went above and beyond his responsibility and became part of the Ceuch inner circle. It was not uncommon for Francis on his off days to stop by during a family picnic to say hello...he is truly loved by my father. Again, I want to thank you for the loving care your caregivers provided my father. I would highly recommend your company to anyone interested in having a caregiver attend to a loved one. Thanks again”

“Our sister, Barbara has early-onset dementia , and was in sudden need of a personal care assistant until placement in a quality skilled nursing facility became available. We reached out to home health care agencies in her local area but, by this point, had already worked with several agencies for med reminders for Barbara (and 24/7 care for our Mom in another area of CT) and were a bit skeptical that that we’d find one that could provide consistent quality of care. When I spoke with Rick Downey of Always Best Care Senior Services in Bristol, he conveyed both confidence in his knowledge of health care and empathy in understanding the frustrations that families experience when seeking quality care for their loved ones. We were next contacted by their care coordinator,Heather Kozikowski, who came to our sister’s home to conduct an assessment and further explain the services offered by Always Best Care.A further testament to the exceptional quality of Always Best Care is the service and care we’ve received after Barbara is no longer a client; our thanks to Always Best Care for the excellent care of our sister, and the peace-of-mind it afforded our family knowing that she was in such kind and competent hands!”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Washington Depot, CT?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Washington Pizza House or visit Calhoun-Ives Historic District, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Washington Depot, CT, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your CT's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Washington Depot, CT understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Washington Depot, CT

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Washington Depot, CT

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Washington Senior Center
  • Brandywine Living at Litchfield
  • Chestnut Grove
  • The Cascades Assisted Living
  • The Ivy at Watertown Assisted Living and Memory Care
  • Pleasant View Manor
Home Care Washington Depot, CT

For many seniors, moving into a senior living community revolves around how and when they want to make a transition to more involved care. Some seniors are more proactive about transitioning to independent living. Others choose to remain home until their care needs or other requirements are satisfied. Remember - our staff is here to help. Contact our office today to learn more about assisted living communities and how we can find a facility that exceeds your expectations.

Changing from mostly farmland to a now suburban community, Monroe still holds a lot of its history, with places like the Thomas Hawley or Daniel Busset House put on the National Register of Historic Places, not to mention the Monroe Center Historic District, which has around 60 buildings spread over a 120-acre area. Monroe is also known for the Warrens' Occult Museum, which houses "haunted" artifacts gathered by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, featuring the infamous Raggedy Ann doll "Annabelle."

Bethel

The town of Bethel began as a subdivision of Danbury in 1759 and was incorporated separately in 1855. It has a robust historic district, with locations like the PT Barnum Square and a former railroad station that now acts as a brewery. The oldest building in Bethel is the Seth Seelye House, built after the subdivision was established but before the town was fully incorporated in 1842. Eateries feature foods from different cultures, like the Stony Hill Diner with a mix of Greek and American food, along with Lebanese Cuisine featuring a mix of Lebanese and Mediterranean. Headquartered in the town is battery manufacturer Duracell. Bethel has had its fair share of notable people, with Cartoonist Henry Arthur "Art" Young, actress Jan Miner, Miami Marlins pitcher Matt Barnes, and showman P.T. Barnum.

Old Saybrook

An older town on the Connecticut coast, Old Saybrook was settled in 1738 and incorporated in 1854, around when other towns in Connecticut were. But settlers arriving go back to Dutch occupation in 1624, where they had a short-lived factory and trading post where Old Saybrook is today. Actress Katherine Hepburn once lived in a mansion overlooking the Long Island Sound and, over the years, has become an icon for the people in the area. The local arts center is named after her, called the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center. Being a coastal town, Old Saybrook has a lighthouse out by the sea on Lynde Point, where the Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse stands 48 feet tall. Seaside places like Harvey's Beach are great for walking on the shore, and bars like the Little Pub Old Saybrook offer a place to socialize after a day in the town.

New Milford

New Milford is a part of the Greater Danbury Metropolitan Area and is 14 miles north of Danbury itself. It has several boroughs and districts, including Northville, Gaylordsville, and Merryall, over its nearly 64 square-mile area. Founded in 1712, New Milford is one of the older towns in the state. A trail lines the Housatonic River, which offers great nature views and even spots to watch out for trains that run through on the nearby tracks. Lovers Leap State Park also has a nice view of the river, meaning that New Milford has plenty of outdoor hiking. The Elephant's Trunk Flea Market runs on Sundays and has a great selection of local goods and tickets, as well as easy access to other thrift stores and shops.

Putnam

Located in the northeast of Connecticut, away from more populated cities, is Putnam, which was incorporated in 1855. The arts scene in Putnam is more than alive, with The Bradley Playhouse hosting community plays and art galleries like Silver Circle and The Empty Spaces Project in town. Kids and families will love the Gertrude Chandler Warner Boxcar Museum, featuring work by the author best known for The Boxcar series of books. Plenty of antique stores and boutique shops line the town, including Jeremiah's, Antiques Marketplace, Sawmill Pottery, Kluttered Klosets, and more. Also in Putnam are tons of eateries, perfect for a bite to eat after walking around town. Places like Jessica Tuesday's, 85 Main, and Elizabeth's Farmhouse offer food and drink along with great lighting and atmospheres.

Colebrook

Colebrook is in the northern part of Connecticut and is quite rural. Nature offerings include the Algonquin State Forest, along with the Colebrook River Lake, boasting wonderful views any time of year, along with great fishing opportunities. The Haystack Mountain Observation Tower also has a great view, with a panorama of the Long Island Sound. Local brewery Norbrook Farm is a local favorite, offering both an indoor and outdoor experience. The Colebrook Historical Society & Museum was founded in 1953 and houses many items that represent life in the town, ranging from the 18th century to the present. They own local historical buildings like the Rock Schoolhouse, which was built in 1779.

WASHINGTON — When a loved one dies, those left behind may not only need support services but a connection to others going through a similar experience.

The Center for Hope & Healing, a new resource from Danbury's Regional Hospice, not only offers local caregivers and families grief counseling but support groups with others who are also mourning the loss of their loved ones.

Lisa Esneault, director of communications and media for Regional Hospice, said the Center's approach is "very holistic, so in addition to the expert hospice care that the patients are receiving, we also support those who are left behind, who are grieving.”

Last August, Regional Hospice collaborated with Nuvance Health to expand its services in New Milford by opening two private hospice care suites at New Milford Hospital. Now, Regional Hospice has just opened the Center, at 2 Green Hill Road in Washington, to expand both its presence into Litchfield County and its bereavement services.

On top of caregiver and grief counseling support groups, the Center offers spiritual renewal sessions through prayer and meditation. It also offers sound healing, which uses instruments and music to balance and heal the body, mind and spirit.

Esneault said Regional Hospice's chaplains also offer monthly memorial services to provide families with an opportunity to gather together in celebration of their loved one's life.

All sessions are led by Regional Hospice’s team of licensed social workers, chaplains and therapists as well as the nonprofit’s team of hospice and bereavement trained volunteers.

Esneault added some of the people in Regional Hospice’s support groups have formed their own groups to socialize.

“It’s hard enough to lose somebody, but then having that support is absolutely instrumental in the whole healing process,” she said. “It’s really nice that they stay in touch and they do their own socializing together.”

The Center doesn't charge those who utilize its services. However, all donations are welcome. Social workers and volunteers provide the services and Regional Hospice, a nonprofit, funds the services.

The Center is an extension of Regional Hospice’s Healing Hearts Program, which specializes in bereavement services for families coping with the death of a loved one.

Esneault said the Center is “complementary” to Regional Hospice’s Center for Comfort Care & Healing in Danbury, which offers hospice patients 24/7 clinical care and at-home hospice care services.

CT board to vote on controversial plan for 52-room hotel at Rolling Stones' former rehearsal site

WASHINGTON — After 15 years, the final word as to whether a 81,000-square-foot inn will be built at a vacant girls' school could be a day away.

On Thursday, the town’s zoning commissioners are hoping to make a final decision on whether the conditions of approval have been met on the construction of The Wykeham Rise inn. The inn would include a 52-room hotel, spa, 118-seat restaurant, and event space for up to 24 outdoor tents.

The building was first proposed by siblings Erika and Matthew Klauer to the town in 2008. It's known as the rehearsal site for the Rolling Stones’ national tour in 1989. Since that time, there have been several lawsuits against the town in regard to the proposal, and the Zoning Commission has received more than 30 letters from residents, who largely disapprove of the project.

Shelley White, Washington’s land use administrator, said the town's zoning commissioners want to vote on the application before the town's election, since many of the commissioners who have been involved with the decades-long project could be stepping down from their roles.

“After the election we will only have (one) original commissioner (David Werkhoven) ... and (Janet) Hill, vice chair, who was the land use administrator in 2007/2008 when the inn regulations were revised and when 101 Wykeham (Road) LLC applied for an inn in May of 2008, and now is a zoning commissioner in her retirement," White said.

White added Zoning Commission Chair Nicholas Solley isn't running for reelection and Valerie Anderson, a more recent zoning member, is running for reelection.

Zoning Commission special meetings for 101 Wykeham Road have been scheduled for Nov. 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. and Nov. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the main meeting room of Bryan Memorial Town Hall, 2 Bryan Hall Plaza, Washington Depot. The meetings can also be viewed on Zoom by visiting the town's website, washingtonct.org and searching for the meeting agenda. Commissioners are hoping to vote Nov. 2 but if they need additional time, they will meet again on Nov. 6, White said.

At the meeting, members will determine whether the proposal meets all conditions from a 2013 lawsuit settlement and a 2018 ruling, said White said. Once all the conditions have been met, the project will get the green light to move ahead.

The property has had several owners and several uses over the years, including the Wykeham Rise School for Girls, which was founded in 1902, and as the Rolling Stones' rehearsal site. It’s now vacant and an eyesore, said neighbors, who have had additional concerns about the property, ranging from the water supply to the building, the size of the proposed inn, and noise and traffic the inn could bring to the community.

The new headquarters, at 92 Bee Brook Road, “gives us our own space to be more comfortable, and has sleeping quarters so our responders can truly be on call in the building,” said Heidi Johnson, chief of the Washington Ambulance Association, known as WAA.

Ericson Insurance Advisors, who currently owns the building where the new headquarters will be, is selling it to the town of Washington for $1 million. Ericson has relocated its offices to Titus Road in Washington Depot.

The sale, which is expected to take place early this week, was made possible through private donors and American Rescue Plan Act funds.

Washington First Selectman Jim Brinton said the new headquarters will be treated like every other town building.

“The town will cover insurance, maintenance, utilities — things of that nature,” Brinton said.

Johnson calls the new headquarters “a dream come true” that she said she never thought could happen.

“We are a small nonprofit and we are not a billing ambulance service,” said Johnson, about the 80-year-old independent nonprofit organization with nearly 30 members. The WAA serves as the primary emergency ambulance service for the town of Washington and provides mutual aid to New Milford, Roxbury, Warren, Kent and Bantam.

“We only exist because of our unpaid volunteers and the generosity of our community,” Johnson added.

Falling into place

The WAA has been headquartered at the town’s fire house at 109 Bee Brook Road since the firehouse was built in the early 1990s. Prior to that, it was located in a variety of buildings in Washington through the years.

The conversation that started the wheels turning for the new headquarters began last June when a donor, who wishes to be kept anonymous, first heard about it while chatting with Johnson.

“I gave him a tour of our headquarters and told him what our goals are, and the conversation shifted toward ‘what if you can have your own headquarters?’” she said. “All the pieces then started to fall into place quickly.”

The donor approached the town with the idea of purchasing the building if enough funds were raised. The town agreed, and in October, a challenge was issued in town by donors to see who would be interested in contributing.

“My primary donor said they would contribute $250,000 and tried to encourage others to give at a higher level than what they usually had done and/or support it for the first time,” Johnson said.

Beginning in October, donors put together several fundraisers and by year-end, $1 million had been raised privately.

Additionally, $250,000 of ARPA funds were put toward the purchase.

More space, renovations

Aside from having much more storage space, the new headquarters, at 6,660 square feet, will enable the WAA to provide more services to the community, Johnson said.

Currently, when the WAA needs to have meetings or hold classes, it has to reserve the space with the fire department.

“Since we are in the fire house, the fire department always has the priority on that,” Johnson said.

“We’ve said for a long time that the fire department and ambulance services work really really well together but they simply have outgrown that building. They’re all extremely busy, and this was an opportunity,” Brinton added. “Sharing the building with the fire department can be strategically difficult because both services are constantly training.”

In the new location, the WAA will be able to hold more classes and community events without any conflicts. Additionally, the WAA would like to train more members to teach CPR and first aid.

Johnson said her long-term goal is to make the new headquarters a regional training center for EMS.

“We’re hoping that we generate a lot of interest from this move in having this nice space,” Johnson said.

She said she hopes more people may want to become certified in the WAA’s services, and hopefully they can fill some voids in the surrounding towns.

Renovations need to be done to the new headquarters prior to moving in, Johnson said.

“Renovations to the main building involve moving a few walls around in one space to make for a larger training area with proper storage for all of our needs,” Johnson said.

Additionally, the WAA is building bays off the back of the new building to park two ambulances, and one additional bay will be built for its future needs.

The WAA is accepting donations, which will go toward retrofitting the building and customizing the building to suit its needs. Donations can be made through washingtonambulance.org. Please indicate that the donation is exclusively for the new headquarters.

Johnson said she’s extremely grateful to everyone who played a role in making the new headquarters happen.

“This shows that people really do appreciate all of the sacrifices we make every day in our efforts to provide this vital service,” Johnson said. “This is our first real headquarters to call our own.”
