Over the last 10 years, a vital part of Glenmora's history has been left untouched. The "Pringle Theatre" was once the entertainment hub of the town. But, it closed in 2009 leaving behind more than sixty years of memories.
“The Pringle started in 1942,” said Glenmora High School Teacher Alexa Ashworth. “I believe it started out at 5 cents to get into the movie theater."
A sign that has been by the front door since 2009 reads, “Temporarily closed”.
“A lot of people even said might as well take the sign down because it is not going to open up,” said Glenmora junior Kylie Johnson.
It was the community's source of entertainment for years and the Glenmora High School student council thinks it could be, once again.
The council has been working hard all summer to bring the theatre back to life.
"I got to come and watch a movie, it was actually Speed Racer,” Johnson said. “I thought it was so cool, but I barely remember it because I was so young."
Along the way, students discovered the theatre was full of historic treasures from old calendars, popcorn records, photos and projector equipment still intact.
"When Mrs. Ashworth told us that she was opening it back up again, it was very exciting for me because I’ve never experienced that before,” said Glenmora junior Jada Boults.
However, the dated equipment must be turned to digital to operate properly. The estimated cost is $50,000.
"We are at $1,000, so 49 to go,” Ashworth said. “It is a long ways, but we think that it can happen."
The project is a big undertaking.
"They are painting, moving stuff and cleaning,” Ashworth said. “It’s just really been an exciting thing because I’ve seen them work so hard."
But, students are focused on creating years of precious memories for generations to come.
“It's been fun, it's been a lot of hard work,” Johnson said. “But, in this group, we are able to make hard work, fun work."
The council is holding a fundraiser to auction off the Pringle's old movie posters on August 24. A link to their GoFundMe and Facebook page is attached.
