lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Simpson, LA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your LA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Simpson, LA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Simpson, LA

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Simpson, LA

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Mendenhall Retirement Home
  • Southern Pines Retirement Community

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fiona Simpson.

Hi Fiona, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.I was introduced to art at a very young age, and I think I was always an artist. I grew up surrounded by creativity, with the sound of my father, a contemporary jazz artist, playing the piano, and the sight of my mother working on her art projects. I learned the foundations of what I know from both of my parents, and I’ve explored many mediums throughout my life.

It wasn’t until I was given a Leclerc floor loom that I truly found my craft. I was 20 years old at the time, and I still have the very first weaving I ever made. I never could have imagined how profoundly this loom would change my life.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, and I’ve found a strong connection between my neurodivergence and weaving. Working on the loom allows my body to slow down. It requires patience, thoughtfulness, and care. My mind doesn’t wander when I weave, and it’s one of the rare times I feel fully present.

Today, I continue my weaving practice. I weave daily, while also allowing myself to pause. I started my most recent weaving, Nonlinear, in May 2026 and finished it five months later, in September. There were moments when I felt frustrated and wanted to push through, but this time I allowed myself to step away for a month. During that break, I went on a solo road trip through Chicago to Canada to visit family, and it ended up influencing how I thought about this weaving.

The trip reminded me that time is always changing, and that I change with it. Personal growth, for me, has never been linear. I didn’t know I would find weaving, but I did, and it continues to teach me how to embrace life’s unexpected paths.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect? My biggest struggle has been working with my neurodivergence and the isolation it once instilled. Before my ADHD diagnosis, I hadn’t weaved in years. I always knew I would return to it, but managing my symptoms took all of my energy. Now, with the support of friends, family, and professionals, I’ve learned to work with my neurodivergence rather than against it. I’ve learned that I can’t pour from an empty cup, so I spend time in nature and talking to loved ones. That fills my cup with inspiration. Before I had my ADHD managed, I felt isolated. Now, I know what connection feels like. I know its importance and how impactful it is not just on my weaving, but on my overall wellbeing. I didn’t get where I am today by myself, and I just try my best to live in gratitude for the positive experiences, successes, and people I have in my life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?I’ve spent the past three years focusing on tapestries, inspired by the passage of time, movement, and growth. I explore these themes through abstract compositions, utilizing color and texture and creating a sense of depth within a flat weaving.

I think what sets my work apart is that I try to let the material speak for itself. Each weaving is made in collaboration with the fiber. I never feel fully in control of a project, and I like that. I loosely plan designs, but ultimately the yarn tells me where it wants to go. As I weave, row by row, I watch how the colors slowly build and begin to interact with the surrounding space. My weavings are intuitive, rather than fixed, and I think that fluidity is represented in my work.

I’m most proud of how I’ve developed this approach over time. When I first began weaving, everything was experimental. It’s taken years, but I feel like I’ve found my rhythm. I’ll always be learning, but I know a lot more than when I first started. I’m proud of how far I’ve come in my craft, both technically and conceptually.

What was your favorite childhood memory?I was around 8 years old, and my mom, brother, sister, and I had just landed in Ottawa, Canada, to visit my grandmother. We had an hour-long drive ahead of us. It was nighttime and pouring rain, but we started driving. About halfway there, my mom had to pull over on the small country road because the rain was so heavy. I was sitting in the backseat when I turned my head up to look at the sky. I was mesmerized. I could see all the stars.

Growing up in Los Angeles, I had never seen anything like that before. I wasn’t scared that my mom pulled over. I wasn’t worried about how we would finish the drive. I felt safe in that car with my family, looking up at the universe. It was such a profound experience of feeling completely present and in awe, and that’s why it stands out. I was amazed by something I had never seen before with the people I love.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Osceola County celebrated a major transportation milestone on Monday, October 12, 2026, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official completion of the $73.2 million Simpson Road North Widening and Improvement Project, a significant infrastructure investment designed to improve traffic flow, safety, and connectivity throughout one of the county’s busiest transportation corridors.

Osceola County District 2 Commissioner Viviana Janer, a longtime advocate for improvements along Simpson Road, joined county officials, construction partners, and community representatives to celebrate the completion of the project, which was delivered 241 days ahead of schedule.

The project transformed Simpson Road from a two-lane roadway into a divided four-lane corridor between Marisol Loop/Winners Circle and Myers Road. As the final and longest segment of the overall Simpson Road widening initiative, its completion establishes a continuous four-lane roadway between U.S. 192 and Boggy Creek Road, providing improved mobility for residents, businesses, and visitors traveling through the area.

“Completing the Simpson Road North project is a significant achievement for Osceola County and the residents who rely on this corridor every day. With this final segment, we’ve completed the widening of Simpson Road between U.S. 192 and Boggy Creek Road, improving safety and connectivity for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists,” said Commissioner Janer. “Finishing this $73.2 million project 241 days ahead of schedule makes it an even greater accomplishment for our community.”

Following Monday morning’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, Jr. Davis, CEO of Jr. Davis Construction Company, took a moment to speak with Positively Osceola about the project’s successful completion, praising Commissioner Janer’s involvement and Osceola County’s commitment to working collaboratively with construction partners.

“We were able to finish it 241 days early,” Davis said. “Commissioner Janer was very helpful from the get-go. She was very involved with us.”

Davis, whose construction company has been headquartered in Osceola County for more than four decades, emphasized that completing major transportation projects ahead of schedule requires cooperation, communication, and a shared commitment among everyone involved.

“And Osceola County, they get it. They understand what it takes to build roads. They understand what it takes to partner with the people to build the roads and the stakeholders involved,” Davis told Positively Osceola.

“That’s why you’re seeing Osceola County’s projects coming in under budget and 240 to 300 days ahead of schedule,” Davis added, crediting the county’s willingness to work closely with contractors and project partners.

He also recognized engineering partner CONSOR, the Jr. Davis Construction team, county leadership, and the residents and businesses along the corridor for their cooperation and patience throughout construction.

Davis noted that the project holds personal significance because he lives near Simpson Road and knows many of the residents who travel the corridor daily. He expressed appreciation for the community’s willingness to work through the challenges of construction to achieve long-term improvements in traffic flow and congestion relief.

“Great project. We’re happy to be a part of it,” Davis concluded.

Beyond expanding roadway capacity, the Simpson Road North project introduced significant pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements, including continuous shared-use paths on both sides of Simpson Road. The improvements create safer and more accessible connections for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the corridor.

Additional upgrades included new traffic signals at six intersections: Marisol Loop/Winners Circle, Lakeside Drive, Buenaventura Boulevard, Hilliard Isle Road, Plaza Drive, and Eagle Bay Boulevard. New pedestrian signals, crosswalks, stormwater ponds, drainage infrastructure, guardrails, handrails, and gravity walls were also incorporated into the project.

The improvements also included Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components designed to support traffic operations, along with major utility upgrades involving water mains, reclaimed water, and sewer infrastructure in coordination with Toho Water Authority.

The ribbon-cutting brought together representatives from Jr. Davis Construction, engineering firm CONSOR, and Osceola County leadership, including Chief Operating Officer Beth Knight, recognizing the collaboration that helped bring the extensive roadway project to completion well ahead of its original timeline.

With the final segment now complete, the Simpson Road corridor offers increased roadway capacity, improved intersections, enhanced pedestrian and bicycle access, and upgraded infrastructure to accommodate the transportation needs of Osceola County’s growing population.

The completion represents another major step in Osceola County’s ongoing investment in transportation infrastructure, improving public safety, and strengthening the roadway network that connects communities throughout the county.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Rams shocked fans — and much of the NFL — when they selected quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th pick in the NFL draft.

Simpson started only 15 games at Alabama before the Rams ostensibly made him the eventual heir apparent to Matthew Stafford.

Now, after offseason workouts, two weeks of training camp and a few preseason practices, Simpson will get his first NFL game opportunity when the Rams open the preseason against Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m. PDT (CBS).

Fourth-year pro Stetson Bennett will start, but Simpson will play in the game.

“I’m really ready to show who I am,” Simpson said this week.

Simpson, 23, acknowledges the pressure that comes with his draft position, especially for a team that is favored to win Super Bowl LXI. But he does not feel it.

Not outwardly, anyway.

“I try to be as present as I can, and make sure every day I understand how much of a blessing it is knowing that I am the No. 13 pick and everything that comes with it,” Simpson said during training camp. “But also understanding that being here every day, and making the most out of every opportunity that I get, is everything I can ask for.”

Simpson started slow in the first few training camp workouts, but he appeared to break through when he stepped up in the pocket and completed a pass across the middle of the field. Simpson said he had begun to “put the puzzle pieces together,” marrying concepts with lessons learned watching Stafford and Bennett.

Star receiver Puka Nacua noticed.

“His arm and the confidence that he’s throwing the ball with has definitely grown a ton,” since offseason workouts, Nacua said before the Rams broke camp. “I think he’s feeling more comfortable in the pocket, understanding and seeing more guys run routes.”

Said offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase: “You’ve certainly seen him go and make some throws and go and compete in a really cool way.”

During this week’s joint workout with the Dallas Cowboys, Simpson played a few series, and completed a touchdown pass during a red-zone period.

But there is no tackling during practices. So Saturday will be Simpson’s first time experiencing NFL contact.

“It’s going to be a whole different lifestyle,” he quipped.

Coach Sean McVay does not play starters or other projected significant contributors during the preseason. In addition to Nacua and Davante Adams being held out, receivers Jordan Whittington and Konata Mumpfield also will not play, McVay said.

Simpson’s fellow rookies — tight end Max Klare, offensive lineman Keagan Trost, receiver CJ Daniels and defensive lineman Tim Keenan — will play.

Scheelhaase will call plays.

This will be Bennett’s seventh — and most important — preseason start.

Jimmy Garoppolo is no longer on the roster and Stafford was on a limited schedule during training camp, so Bennett worked with the first-team offense for the first time in his career. The former Georgia star, who led the Bulldogs to two national titles, played with confidence and made plays in his bid to show McVay and teammates that he can step in if Stafford is sidelined during the season.

McVay is looking to see how Bennett and Simpson manage the offense before and after the snap. He anticipates that both will use their mobility to make plays if the pocket collapses.

“Seeing some of that stuff come to life will be important,” McVay said. “But I think it’s got to occur naturally.”

Stafford, Bennett and quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone are among those who have eased Simpson’s transition to the NFL. As Simpson prepared for Saturday’s game, Stafford offered counsel.

“The best advice he gave me was, ‘Just go let it rip. It’s nothing that you haven’t done before,’” Simpson said.

But this will be the first time Simpson will do it as a pro.

Simpson anticipates that it will be “surreal” to put on his game jersey and fulfill a dream of playing in the NFL.

“There are going to be things that I mess up on,” he said. “I’m going to learn from them and move on, and next week be able to learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
