They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to visit LARC's Acadian Village, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Baskin, LA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your LA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Baskin, LA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Baskin, LA

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping

  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring

If you thought Baskin-Robbins had concocted every ice cream flavor imaginable, the dessert chain is serving up a bold new take on a Southern-fried classic.

Baskin-Robbins debuted a new flavor of the month on Wednesday: “Chick’n & Waffles,” a sweet-and-savory take on a popular brunch item. The company makes it clear: The buttermilk-flavored ice cream doesn’t contain meat. Rather, it features crispy bite-sized chunks that mimic the flavor of fried chicken and waffles, in addition to maple-syrup-flavored swirls.

The chain is hosting a three-hour “bottomless brunch” Tuesday at a shop in New York City to commemorate the latest (possibly) finger-licking flavor. Visitors can have as much of the new flavor as they can — or desire — to eat, the company says.

“At Baskin-Robbins, we pride ourselves on bringing innovative flavors to market, which is why when we saw the growing popularity of Chicken & Waffles on menus, we knew we had to create a bold flavor that would change the way our guests enjoy Chick’n & Waffles,” Hannah Suits, director of brand marketing for Baskin-Robbins, said in a statement Wednesday. “This flavor is a frozen twist on the iconic brunch dish, re-created in a deliciously deconstructed concept that is unique to our shops.”

Baskin-Robbins isn’t the first to experiment with the unconventional flavor of ice cream. It’s been tried once — at least — before. Last year, a Michigan pastry chef made headlines by exploring a chicken-and-waffles ice cream flavor “steeped in KFC seasoning and buckwheat,” Eater Detroit reported. Yummy.

The avant-garde flavor marks the latest in a voluminous library of more than 1,400 flavors that have been served by the Massachusetts-based frozen dessert franchise. The multinational chain, however, traces its roots to much simpler times in Southern California.

Baskin-Robbins was founded by Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins, beginning with Robbins’ Snowbird Ice Cream in Glendale in 1945 with 21 flavors. A year later, Baskin opened Burton’s Ice Cream in Pasadena. The duo, who were brothers-in-law, merged into a single enterprise in 1958.

Its menu of flavors later expanded to its signature 31 flavors, one for each day of the month.

The company hasn’t shied away from pop culture moments — such as the 1958 flavor “Baseball Nut,” which marked the Dodgers’ move from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, a vanilla-flavored ice cream with raspberries to “heckle” the umpires.

The jury is still out on the franchise’s chicken-and-waffles-inspired flavor. But those who’d like to give it a try can do so at more than 2,500 locations nationwide.

How La La Anthony Hustled From Humble Beginnings To A $30M Net Worth — 'Baskin Robbins, Marshalls. I Had Like 100 Jobs'

Some people may know her as “LaKeisha Grant” from the hit series “Power.” Others may know her as “Dom” from the Lena Waithe-produced show “The Chi.” And if you are a part of a particular generation, then you remember her as a leading VJ for MTV. Who is this multi-faceted individual? It is none other than La La Anthony.

Born Alani Nicole Vázquez, the Puerto Rican and Black media personality is a New York native that started her road to fame as an intern at HOT 97.5 in Atlanta, GA and worked her way up, according to The New York Times.

Throughout her career, Anthony can be seen as the host of popular reality shows like “Flavor of Love” and “I Love New York,” an actress in movies like “Think Like A Man,” or even featured in her own reality series, “La La’s Full Court Life.”

While Anthony stays busy with her range of jobs, her most coveted role is that of a mother. Anthony has one child, Kiyan Anthony, with NBA star Carmelo Anthony.

The love for her family is the motivation behind her hard work and success. However, it is a personal event from her past that serves as a critical source of motivation to keep going and never stop.

In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God on his series, Emerging Hollywood, the actress shared that her parent’s divorce was one of the biggest influences on her work ethic.

“I work so hard to never go back to feeling like I can’t have something again,” La La said in the interview.

When Anthony’s parents divorced, they moved to Atlanta to live with her aunts and cousins. Although she says she enjoyed her time with her family, seeing her mom struggle and not having anything to call her own didn’t sit well with her.

“We moved in with my aunt and my cousin. And I knew my mom was struggling to try to get us on our feet. And at that point, I’m like, ‘I have to help her,'” Anthony explained to Charlamagne.

“I was probably like 15-16 at the time. So, getting all kinds of odds and ends jobs; Baskin Robbins, Marshalls. I had like 100 jobs, but I was like, I gotta help my mom ’cause I was like, ‘I don’t like how this feels; not being able to get certain things,'” the actress continued on the show.

Although this influx of work was birthed through circumstance, Anthony explained that she is a hustler and enjoys working. Moreover, through some personal reflection, she has realized that her hustle is also a trauma response.

“You [Charlamagne] put something up on Instagram, and I reposted. It was like, ‘staying busy is a trauma response.’ That hit me so hard ’cause I feel in a lot of ways that’s me as well,” Anthony said to the host. “Sometimes, I don’t know how to slow down ’cause I worry if I slow down, then like, the reality of a lot of other things in my life will hit. So, I work, work, work, and take care of Kiyan.”

When the mom of one is not working on the screen, she’s staying busy with partnerships like the one she has with Baileys that brought three signature summer cocktails.

Anthony also owns a hair product line aimed “to nourish, fortify and recover hair so everyone can embrace their own.”

Although Anthony may be reconciling all the contributing factors that have led to her working mindset, she has been able to make her desire to have more than enough a reality.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, La La Anthony has amassed a $30 million net worth.

While traveling in South America, homeowner Lisa Baskin spotted an abstract art piece that propelled her to action. On seeing it, she thought, “Oh, God, I’m going to buy that, send it home and redo my house.”

Newly divorced, Baskin and her four young children had remained in their 5,500-square foot family home, a 1920s Georgian house in Brentwood, but the interior never felt quite right. (Baskin says it’s because she had originally purchased the dark and heavy Spanish-style furniture to fit a previous home.)

She finally found a perfect collaborator in Santa Monica interior designer Christine Markatos Lowe. A free-spirited personality with a penchant for eclectic and colorful design, Baskin says Lowe could “rein me in, tame me, but also give me options that catered to my contradicting love for the traditional and funky.”

Over 1½ years, Lowe and Baskin transformed the confused home into a bright, colorful dwelling that met the needs of this busy mother to Noah, 11; twins Ben and Quinlan, 9; and Finley, 7. “We wanted to keep the existing bones of the house, but modernize it and make it really feel like a family home,” Lowe says.

Baskin made no changes structurally, but with Lowe’s help, brought a sense of peace to the chaos that once characterized the home.

Gone were the mint green walls, tired furniture and garish wallpaper. Lowe infused the home with a well-thought-out color scheme, which ripples throughout — soft lavenders in the living room, calming blues in the kitchen, cool greens outdoors. Pops of color via art and accessories offset with white further brighten the space.

In the formal dining room, artist James Welling’s color-filtered photographic landscapes add a fresh feel to the room’s more traditional moldings. New dining furniture was crafted in the traditional style, but simplified to give it a modern twist.

Baskin nixed florals and instead favored more geometrically inspired patterns with simple lines and contemporary themes. Primary blues and forest greens define the children’s playroom. Striped Roman shades are used alongside New York City designer Aimée Wilder’s wallpaper, which references defunct analog technology such as cassette tapes and large speakers. A blue-and-white zigzag Madeline Weinrib rug sits beneath a kelly green Tucker chair from Serena & Lily and a mango wood desk from West Elm.

Rather than go bland and neutral, Lowe populated the home with all new furniture that still had scale but also a more feminine profile. As with the walls, pattern and color were used generously here too. With children living in the house, Lowe says, “Nothing can be too precious. Every space needed to also be for the children, as well as Lisa.”

Bold patterns especially can be very forgiving when it comes to children’s antics.

In the living room, armchairs covered in striking green-and-purple Ferrick Mason fabric with a lattice print are tempered by a sofa in lavender and a hexagonal ottoman covered with a dreamy pinwheel print by Jennifer Shorto.

As a way to give Baskin’s children a “voice” in the home, Lowe framed select pieces of their prodigious artwork alongside Baskin’s art collection. Visitors might sometimes be hard-pressed to identify which is which. In the refreshed French country-style kitchen, the children’s self-portraits look over the dining area. The tufted banquette covered in a denim-colored fabric with orange contrast buttons and bistro chairs adds to the inviting dining scene.

The entire property was also re-landscaped to infuse the place with a little romance. Flower-filled arbors and Dedon tree swings hang on a massive coral tree. A hidden pond, a sunken trampoline and a treehouse were also created to give Baskin’s children an additional outdoor play space.

It’s been a long road to this colorful conclusion and Baskin says her next steps are planning a few parties to make full use of her revived home. But in the meantime, she’s basking in the feeling of a task well done. “I love walking into my house,” says Baskin, “I come home and I think, ‘Wow! I can’t believe this is where I live.’”

Taking a trip back in time to 1985 isn’t such a far-out concept as it seems to be: All you have to do is visit a Baskin-Robbins in Burbank.

Ahead of the third season premiere of “Stranger Things,” Netflix has partnered with the ice cream chain to transform one of its stores into a Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream Parlor for the next two weeks.

The fictional ice cream shop is featured in the upcoming season of the show, which takes place during the summer of 1985 in the fictional town of Hawkins, Ind.

The throwback aesthetic of nautical imagery is present throughout the shop, and employees are even decked out in sailor-inspired uniforms.

According to Dave Nagel, senior director of consumer engagement at Baskin-Robbins, the interior of the shop is actually a recreation of the Scoops Ahoy set used in the show.

“This started last April … We started talking with Netflix, and it started about bringing an ice cream flavor to life with Scoops Ahoy,” he said.

“It became so much more than that, we realized that … we can be the brand that brings Scoops Ahoy to life for ‘Stranger Things’ fans,” he added.

Sophia Rosas, a local resident and fan of the series, said she only heard about the pop-up event a day before but was still excited to check it out on Tuesday afternoon.

“It was really cool how they were able to [change the store] so quickly. I was actually just here,” she said.

Rosas said she also tried to go to another “Stranger Things” event held at the Santa Monica Pier this past weekend, but the six- to seven-hour waiting time was a significant deterrent.

Varuzh Tirityan, who owns the franchise location, said it took only a matter of days for his store to be transformed into something out of the 1980s.

In addition to turning back time, Baskin-Robbins is offering several specialty items tied to the show, including the Upside Down and Demogorgon sundaes as well as the Elevenade Freeze.

The flavor of the month, USS Butterscotch, is also a tie-in with the series.

Fans can hit up the retro remodel at 1201 S. Victory Blvd. in Burbank until July 14.

“Stranger Things” premieres July 4 on Netflix.

A week after the release of her new album, “Bell Bottom Country,” Lainey Wilson is poised to be the belle of the ball at the Country Music Association Awards.

In addition to performing that night, the northeast Louisiana native has six CMA nominations, more than other nominee this year. Her potential wins include female vocalist of the year, album of the year and song of the year. "The 56th Annual CMA Awards" airs at 7 p.m. Wednesday on ABC. She’ll be on TV again on Sunday, Nov. 13, making her acting debut in the new season of “Yellowstone.”

Wilson’s CMA nominations follow her many previous honors, including the Academy of Country Music’s song of the year award for her No. 1 hit, “Things a Man Oughta Know.”

“This flood of recognition means the world to me,” Wilson said of the attention she’s received since the 2021 release of her album debut, “Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’.”

“All I’ve ever wanted is a chance and an opportunity,” she said. “I feel like that’s what I’ve been given. And the cool part about it is this is just the beginning.”

From a farming family in the Franklin Parish village of Baskin, Lainey moved to Nashville in 2011. A decade later, “Things a Man Oughta Know” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s country airplay chart. Wilson achieved her second No. 1 this year with “Never Say Never,” a duet with Cole Swindell. She’s currently charting with “Heart Like a Truck” and her a duet with HARDY, “Wait in the Truck.”

When she previously spoke to The Advocate in April 2021, Wilson was on the rise, but still struggling.

“I had $30 in my checking account,” she recalled. “My sister Venmoed me a couple of hundred bucks just so I could go to Taco Bell.”

Wilson paid a decade of dues before her breakthrough, figuring out her place in Music City from scratch.

“I never had a Plan B,” she said. “There were moments when I probably should have packed up my camper trailer and moved home — but that never crossed my mind. Country music is my life. It’s always going to be my life. But, I’ll tell you what, now it’s looking better than I could have ever imagined.”

Wilson’s parents in Franklin Parish taught her tenaciousness and the value of hard work.

“I am who I am because of my mama and my daddy,” she said. “I am proud of where I’m coming from. I’m proud to talk with an accent and be from Baskin. There are so many things that my parents taught me growing up, but their work ethic is one thing that I take with me everywhere. My parents taught me what it takes to get something in life. If you want something, you got to roll up your sleeves and go get the thing.”

That work ethic compelled Wilson to make the most of pandemic downtime.

“I had three years to write this record (‘Bell Bottom Country’),” she said. “I wrote 300-plus songs, so I really dug deep. I grew as a person, a singer and a songwriter. You’ll hear that in the record.”

A new star of country music, Wilson nonetheless is grateful for her opportunity to record duets with the longer-established Swindell and HARDY.

“They’re both incredible artists, and it’s important for artists like them, who have been around the block, to show the rest of the world ‘Hey, I believe in this girl, and you should, too.’ I can’t wait to do that for another artist.”

Branching into acting, Wilson will play a singer in the new season of Paramount Network's “Yellowstone,” the modern-day western starring Kevin Costner. Wilson and Taylor Sheridan — the series' creator, writer and executive producer — have been friends since he began using her songs in the “Yellowstone” soundtrack. They bonded over a mutual love of horses.
