GLENMORA, La. (KALB) - The new Dove Family Clinic has opened up in the Town of Glenmora.
According to a representative of the town, this is the first doctor’s office in Glenmora since the 1980s.
“I’ve been a nurse practitioner for about nine years, and I’ve been in the medical field for over 20, so it’s been a long road, but I enjoy it. I enjoy it a lot,” said Darlinda Dove, NP, the clinic’s owner.
That passion for medicine led the Alexandria native to open a clinic in the small town of Glenmora.
“In rural areas, it’s harder as far as access to health care, and I wanted to be that person or that clinic to reach out to those patients,” said Dove.
The clinic has been operating since October 2024. On Saturday, Dec. 14, the clinic held its grand opening. Dove said the community’s response has been overwhelming and that the patients are steadily streaming in.
“Right now, I know I have over 100, so I’m thankful for that and hopefully many, many more,” said Dove.
Dove is the sole provider at the clinic and offers primary care services, which can range from your typical headaches to back pain to high blood pressure. She also said she provides D.O.T. physicals for truck drivers and has a weight loss program for individuals who may need that service. She also encouraged members of the Black community to prioritize their health.
“Being African American, you’re at really high risk for a plethora of diseases and disorders, especially high blood pressure and high cholesterol,” said Dove. “I want to get the word out to patients and people that we got to take care of ourselves and have longevity and enjoy your life.”
Dove said her office accepts most major insurances, including Medicare, Medicaid and TRICARE for veterans. If you are uninsured, she offers a self-pay option and plans to implement a sliding scale in the coming year.
The Dove Family Clinic is located at 1109 7th Avenue in Glenmora and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
